VIP-M07SPI-ADIS
Introduction
This document describes the specifications for the 12 V M0-7 SPI discovery board that is
able to work connected to SPC560B-DIS discovery board to create a solution for a specific
12 V BCM (Body Control Module) system.
In a typical car body application it is necessary to connect a microcontroller to drive several
loads (bulb lamps, led lamps, electrical motors and so on). When using a bulb lamp, to
increase its lifetime and avoid flickering, it is necessary to shift PWM signals and adapt the
duty cycle to battery life.
The M0-7 SPI expansion board provides diagnostics feedback and current consumptions to
operating close loop for each single load synchronized with the PWM signals. SPC560B-
DIS is the core hardware to generate shifted PWM signals and synchronize ADC
conversion.

1 Quick start
VIP-M07SPI-ADIS is an easy-to-use board offered at budget price. Together with a
dedicated GUI and firmware (STSW-M07SPI-ADIS) and in combination with SPC560B-DIS
board, it becomes a tool to evaluate M0-7 SPI high-side drivers.
1.1 Getting started
Follow the sequence below to configure the system and launch the application:
1. Check jumper position in the SPC560B-DIS board:
J14,J13,J12,J7J6,J2,J11 removed
S1,S2,J10,J9,J2,J1,J3 inserted
2. Connect the SPC560B-DIS board to a PC with a USB cable ‘type A to mini-B’
3. Download firmware STSW-M07SPI-ADIS and program board as described on
www.st.com
4. Disconnect USB cable
5. Plug VIP-M07SPI-ADIS board and connect 12V power supply on J18
6. Install GUI on your PC as described on www.st.com
7. Connect loads to the outputs
8. Check jumper position in the VIP-M07SPI-ADIS:
JP1 closed
9. Connect USB cable to PC
10. Execute GUI (www.st.com)

2.1 M07 SPI devices
These devices are manufactured using ST proprietary VIPower M0-7 technology and are
designed to drive 12V automotive grounded loads through a 3V and 5V CMOS-compatible
interface, providing protection and 16-bit ST-SPI for full diagnostic with 8 bits Short Frame
option.
The device integrates advanced protective functions and a dedicated multifunction
multiplexed analog output pin delivers sophisticated diagnostic functions including high
precision proportional load current sense, in addition to the detection of overload and short
circuit to ground, short to VCC and off-state open-load.

Following a short description of the most important features of M07 devices:
General
– 16-bit ST-SPI for full diagnostic with 8 bits Short Frame option
– Programmable Bulb/LED mode
– Advanced limp home functionalities for robust fail-safe system
– Very low standby current
– Optimized electromagnetic emissions
– Very low electromagnetic susceptibility
– Control through direct inputs and / or SPI
– Compliant with European directive 2002/95/EC
Diagnostic functionalities
– Multiplex proportional load current sense
– Synchronous diagnostic of over load and short to GND, output shorted to VCC and
OFF-state open-load
– Programmable case overtemperature warning
Protections
– Two levels load current limitation
– Self limiting of fast thermal transients
– Undervoltage shutdown
– Overvoltage clamp
– Latch-off or programmable time limited auto restart (power limitation and
overtemperature shutdown)
– Load dump protected
– Protection against loss of ground
The M07 discovery board is equipped with 2 M07 SPI high side drivers:
U1 is a VNQ7003SY a quad channels in PowerSSO-36 package with channels 0-1 25mΩof
RON and channels 2-3 7mΩof RON
U2 is a VNP7008SY a penta channels in PowerSSO-36 package with channels 0-4 40mΩof
RON
The suggested configuration to drive front corner and a rear corner is illustrated in Table 1:

2.2 Power supply
The power supply is provided through J18 connectors and must be able to provide the
current requested by all the loads connected.
2.3 LEDs
LEDx: indicates the status of the correspondent outputx
2.4 Jumpers
J1 powers the digital control and SPI interface
2.5 Extension connectors
The male headers X1,X2,X3 and X4 are two strip lines connectors of 2x36 each and are
used to allow the access to all the Bolero’s pins with exception of JTAG, TCK, TMS, TDI,
TDO, XTAL, EXTAL and VDD_LV. The pins used in this M07 SPI applications are the
following:
