This instruction manual must be read by any person installing or operating this tool with particular
attention to the following safety rules.
1. SAFETY DEFINITIONS
The denitions below describe the level of severity for each signal word. Please read the manual and pay
attention to these symbols.
DANGER: Indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious
injury.
WARNING: Indicates apotentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death
or serious injury.
CAUTION: Indicates apotentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor
or moderate injury.
CAUTION: Used without the safety alert symbol indicates apotentially hazardous situation which, if not
avoided, may result in property damage.
Improper operation or maintenance of this product could result in serious injury and property damage.
Read and understand all warnings and operating instructions before using this equipment. When using
power tools, basic safety precautions must always be followed to reduce the risk of personal injury.
SAVE ALL WARNINGS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
WARNING:
1. Do not use outside the design intent.
2. Use only parts, fasteners, and accessories recommended by the manufacturer.
3. Do not modify the tool in any way. Any modication undertaken by the customer to the tool, nose
assemblies, accessories or any equipment supplied shall be the customer’sentire responsibility.
4. The tool must be maintained in asafe working condition at all times and examined at regular intervals for
damage and function by trained competent personnel. Any dismantling procedure will be undertaken
only by trained personnel. Do not dismantle this tool without prior reference to the maintenance
instructions.
5. The precautions to be observed when using this tool must be explained by the customer to all operators.
6. Always fully disconnect the tool from the hydraulic pump unit before attempting to adjust, remove or t
the nose assembly.
7. Do not operate atool that is directed towards any person(s) or the operator.
8. Always adopt arm footing or astable position before operating the tool.
9. The operating pressure shall not exceed 550bar (8,000 PSI).
10. Operators and others in work area must wear approved safety glasses with side shields. Always wear
safety glasses and ear protection during operation.
11. Take care to avoid entanglement of loose clothes, ties, long hair, cleaning rags etc. in the moving parts of
the tool which should be kept dry and clean for best possible grip.
12. Do not operate the tool if it is not tted with acomplete nose assembly.
13. Care shall be taken to ensure that spent stems are not allowed to create ahazard.
14. The exible pintail deector must always be attached to the tool and in good condition. The deector
must be aimed away from the user and in asafe direction away from hazard.
15. When carrying the tool from place to place keep hands away from the trigger/lever to avoid inadvertent
start up.
16. Keep tool handles dry, clean and free from oil and grease.
17. Do not t exible hoses rated at less than 700bar (10,000 PSI) working pressure.
18. Avoid damaging hydraulic hoses. Avoid sharp bends and kinks when routing hydraulic hoses. Using
abent or kinked hose will cause severe back-pressure. Sharp bends and kinks will internally damage the
hose leading to premature hose failure.
19. Do not drop heavy objects on hoses. Asharp impact may cause internal damage to hose wire strands and
lead to premature hose failure.
20. Do not lift the placing tool by the hoses. Always use the placing tool handle.

21. Do not pull or move the hydraulic pump unit using the hoses. Always use the pump unit handle or roll cage.
22. Contact with hydraulic uid should be avoided. To minimise the possibility of rashes, care should be taken
to wash thoroughly if contact occurs.
23. Never leave operating tool unattended. Turn o hydraulic unit when tool is not in use.
24. Do not abuse the tool by dropping or using it as ahammer.
25. Ensure that there is adequate clearance for the tool operator’shands before proceeding.
26. Keep dirt and foreign matter out of the hydraulic system of the tool as this will cause the tool to
malfunction.
27. It is recommended that only Enerpac® hydraulic pump units are to be used to drive the installation tool as
other makes of hydraulic power units may not operate at the safe designed working pressures.
28. C.O.S.H.H (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulation) data for all hydraulic oils and lubricants
is available on request from your tool supplier
29. The machine shall at all times be operated in accordance with relevant Health & Safety legislation. In the
UK the “Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974” applies. Any question regarding the correct operation of the
machine must be directed to STANLEY Engineered Fastening.

2. SAFETY RULES
This technical datasheet must be read with particular attention to the safety warnings and operating
instructions listed in the ProSet XT3 and ProSet XT4 Instruction Manual, by any person tting or
operating the nose assemblies and hand tools.
3. INTENT OF USE
The nose equipment in combination with the ProSet XT3 and ProSet XT4 tools are designed for placing
Stanley Engeered Fastening blind rivets only. The correct placing tool and nose assembly must be selected for
each for each rivet type and size as shown in the tables on pages 6, 7 and 8.

4. NOSE ASSEMBLIES
Nose equipment varies according to the rivet type being installed. Each nose assembly represents a unique
set of components which can be ordered individually. For assembly dimensions ‘A’, ‘ B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’ refer to Nose
Assembly tables on pages 6, 7 and 8. We recommend maintaining some stock of spares as items will need
regular replacement if worn.

FITTING INSTRUCTIONS
IMPORTANT - READ THE SAFETY WARNINGS LISTED IN THE PROSET XT3 AND PROSET XT4 INSTRUCTION
MANUAL CAREFULLY BEFORE PUTTING INTO SERVICE.
IMPORTANT - THE AIR SUPPLY MUST BE TURNED OFF OR DISCONNECTED BEFORE FITTING OR
REMOVING THE NOSE ASSEMBLY.
Item numbers in bold refer to the components in gure 2 and the tables on pages 9 and 10.
• The air supply must be disconnected.
• If necessary, remove the complete nose assembly 76003-15000 as described on page 9 of the Proset XT3
and Proset XT4 instruction manual.
• Lightly coat jaws (5) with moly lithium grease.
• Drop Jaws (5) into the jaw guide (4).
• Insert the jaw pusher spring(8), jaw pusher or jaw spreader (6) and O ring or buer (7) into the pulling
head (9).
• Pull back the jaw guide lock (10) and screw the jaw guide (4) fully on to the pulling head (9).
• Release the jaw guide lock (10) and then partially unscrew the jaw guide (4) until the jaw guide lock (10)
tooth clicks into the next slot on the jaw guide (4).
• Attach the pulling head assembly, Jaws Guide, Jaws, Jaw Pusher, Buer and Spring (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11,
12 & 13) to the tool piston and then tighten the locknut (71210-02103) against it using spanners.
• Place nose casing (2) over the jaw guide (4) and tighten fully onto the tool.
• Nose tips (1) should be installed in the Nose Casing (2) and tightened to a torque of 7.0 – 7.5 Nm.
• If required, apply Loctite 932 on the Nose Tip (1) thread to prevent the part from coming loose in use.
SERVICING INSTRUCTIONS
• Nose assemblies need to be serviced at weekly intervals or every 5,000 cycles. Hold some stock of all
internal components of the nose assembly and nose pieces, they need regular replacement.
• The air supply must be disconnected.
• Remove the nose casing (2), including the nose piece (1), and O ring (3) from the tool.
• Pull back the jaw guide lock (10) against the spring (11) and then remove the jaw guide (4).
• Remove the jaws (5) from the jaw guide (4).
• Remove jaw pusher or jaw spreader (6), O ring or buer (7), and Jaw pusher spring (8), from the pulling
head (9).
• Remove the pulling head assembly (9,10, 11, 12 & 13) from the tool piston using spanners
• Inspect all components. Any worn or damaged parts must be replaced by a new part.
• Particularly check wear on the Jaws (5).
• Clean all parts and apply moly lithium Grease (07992-00020) to jaws (5) and taper bore of jaw guide (4).
• Assemble according to tting instructions above.

• Remove the complete nose assembly 76003-15000 as described on page 9 of the Proset XT3 and Proset
XT4 instruction manual.
• Install the Chuck Collet Adaptor (14) fully onto the tool piston and then tighten the locknut against it.
• Fit Friction Ring (3) onto the Chuck Collet Adaptor (14).
• Lightly coat Jaws (6) with Moly Lithium grease.
• Drop Jaws (6) into Chuck Collet (7).
• Insert one Spring Guide (4) into Chuck Collet (7).
• Place the Spring (5) onto the Spring Guide (4) already in place.
• Place the other Spring Guide (4) into Spring (5).
• Holding tool pointing nose down, install the assembled Chuck Collet (7) onto the Chuck Collet Adaptor
(1) and tighten with a spanner.
• Place the Anvil Adaptor (2) over the Chuck Collet (7) and tighten fully onto the tool.
• Place Anvil (8) over Chuck Collet (7) and insert into the Anvil Adapter (2).
• Place the Anvil Nut (9) over th Anvil (8) and tighten fully onto the Anvil Adapter (2).

• Any worn or damaged part should be replaced.
• Clean and check wear on Jaws (4).
• Ensure that the Jaw Spreader (5) and Buer (6) are not distorted.
• Check that the Spring (8) is not distorted.
• Check that the Anvil (8) is neither cracked nor has any scoring or corrosion marks on the inside face of the
concave shape at the front end.
• Assemble according to tting instructions above.

• Install the Jaw Spreader Housing (10) fully onto the tool piston and then tighten the locknut against it.
• Lightly coat Jaws (4) with Moly Lithium grease.
• Insert the Jaws (4) into the Jaw Housing (3).
• Place the Buer (6) and spring (7) onto the Jaw Spreader (5) and insert the items into the Jaw Housing (3).
• Fit the Locking Ring (8) and O Ring (9) onto the Jaw Spreader Housing (10).
• Holding the tool point downwards, install the assembled Jaw Housing (3) onto the Jaw Spreader Housing
(10) and tighten fully.
• Assemble the Anvil Nose Tip (1) into the Nose Casing (2) and tighten.
• Place the Nose Casing (2) and O Ring (11) over the assembled equipment and tighten fully onto the tool.

• Fit the Locking Ring (6) and O Ring (10) onto the Jaw Spreader Housing (11).
• Holding the tool point downwards, install the assembled Chuck Collet (4) onto the Jaw Spreader Housing
(11) and tighten fully.
• Assemble the Nose Tip (supplied separately – see table 4) into the Nose Casing (7) and tighten.
• Place the Nose Casing (7) and O Ring (8) over the assembled equipment and tighten fully onto the tool.

FITTING INSTRUCTIONS
IMPORTANT - READ THE SAFETY WARNINGS LISTED IN THE PROSET XT3 AND PROSET XT4 INSTRUCTION
MANUAL CAREFULLY BEFORE PUTTING INTO SERVICE.
IMPORTANT - THE AIR SUPPLY MUST BE TURNED OFF OR DISCONNECTED BEFORE FITTING OR
REMOVING THE NOSE ASSEMBLY.
Item numbers in bold refer to the components in gure 6 and the table on page 16.
• The air supply must be disconnected.
• Remove the complete nose assembly 76003-15000 as described on page 9 of the Proset XT3 and Proset
XT4 instruction manual.
• Install the Jaw Spreader Housing (7) fully onto the tool piston and then tighten the locknut against it.
• Lightly coat Jaws (4) with Moly Lithium grease.
• Insert the Jaws (4) into the Jaw Housing (3).
• Place the Buer (5) and spring (10) onto the Jaw Spreader (6) and insert the items into the Jaw Housing
(3).
• Fit the Locking Ring (9) and O Ring (8) onto the Jaw Spreader Housing (7).
• Holding the tool point downwards, install the assembled Jaw Housing (3) onto the Jaw Spreader Housing
(7) and tighten fully.
• Assemble the Nose Tip (1) into the Nose Casing (2) and tighten.
• Place the Nose Casing (2) and O Ring (11) over the assembled equipment and tighten fully onto the tool.
SERVICING INSTRUCTIONS
• Nose assemblies need to be serviced at weekly intervals or every 5,000 cycles. Hold some stock of all
internal components of the nose assembly and nose pieces, they need regular replacement.
• Remove the nose assembly using the reverse procedure to the ‘Fitting instructions’.
• Any worn or damaged part should be replaced.
• Clean and check wear on Jaws (4).
• Ensure that the Jaw Spreader (6) and buer (5) are not distorted.
• Check that the Spring (10) is not distorted.
• Assemble according to tting instructions above.

• The air supply must be disconnected.
• Remove the complete nose assembly 76003-15000 as described on page 9 of the Proset XT3 and Proset
XT4 instruction manual.
• Remove the Locknut 71210-02103 from the tool piston.
• Screw the Stop Nut (12) fully onto the tool piston.
• Screw the Chuck Collet Adapter (6) fully onto the piston and then tighten the Stop Nut (12) against it. Fit
the Friction Ring (11) onto the Chuck Collet Adapter (6).

• Lightly coat the Chuck Jaws (5) and the internal tapered bore of the Chuck Collet (1) with Molylithium
grease.
• Assemble the Chuck Jaws (5), Spring Guides (7) and Spring (2) into the Chuck Collet (1).
• Screw the Chack Collet assembly onto the Chuck Collet Adapter (6) and tighten.
• Assemble the Push O Anvil (10) over the Chuck Collet (1) and tighten fully onto the tool.
• Assemble the Buer (9) and the Anvil Casing (7) over the Push O Anvil (10) and retain in place with the
Shroud (8). For ease of tting the Shroud (8), coat the internal surface with liquid soap.
SERVICING INSTRUCTIONS
• Nose assemblies need to be serviced at weekly intervals or every 5,000 cycles. Hold some stock of all

• Remove the nose assembly using the reverse procedure to the ‘Fitting instructions’.
• Any worn or damaged part should be replaced.
• Clean and check wear on Chuck Jaws (5).
• Ensure that the Spring Guides (3) are not distorted.
• Check that the Spring (2) is not distorted.
• Check that the Push O Anvil (10) is neither cracked nor has any scoring or corrosion marks on the inside
face of the concave shape at the front end.
• Assemble according to tting instructions above.
