This light uses state-of-the-art Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology. This warning light
is comprised of ultra-high intensity LEDs that are operated by a micro-controller to
efficiently produce light output with lifetimes up to 100,000 hours.
IMPORTANT: Please read all of the following instructions before installing your new light.
CAUTION: Please be sure to check that your cigarette plug outlet or hard wire is properly fused
with a 5 amp or greater fuse. Testing the light before this fuse is properly
installed will void the warranty on the light.
WARNING!!!! Care should be taken when positioning this warning light so that the light and/or
cord does not interfere with the proper operation of the driver-side or passenger-
side airbag! Failure to heed this warning may result in serious or fatal injury.
This light is designed to be mounted on the inside of your vehicle. It is
not intended for exterior applications and is not warranted against water
damage.
It is the sole responsibility of the owner to ensure the warning light is
secure. Check your light every time you enter the vehicle to ensure that
it is mounted securely. The manufacturer assumes no responsibility for

Assembly
WARNING!!!! Care should be taken when positioning this warning light and cord so
that the light and/or cord does not interfere with the proper operation
of any airbag! Failure to heed this warning may result in serious or
fatal injury.

The M-TECHTM dash and deck lights can be mounted in the front windshield
of a vehicle, in the rear window, on the rear deck, or directed out the side
window. All of the mounts will require you to attach the mounting bracket to
the light.
Based upon which light you have, use the appropriate diagram below or on
page 3 and attach the necessary bracket(s) and hardware.

Mounting
DL35-6and DL35-12 Mounting
1. The DL35-6 and DL35-12 are designed to mount in the front windshield
of your vehicle with the enclosed suction cups.
2. Attach the brackets and cups as indicated on pages 2-3, leaving the hex
bolts just loose enough for the bracket to hinge back and forth for
adjusting.
3. Select a location for the light to be mounted. Take into consideration
viewing angles, window tinting, and where the cig plug wire will run
when selecting a location.
4. Mount the light to the window, in your desired position. Carefully route
the cable, plug the light in, and activate it. Be sure that the light
and/or cord will not interfere with the vision of the driver or the
operation of the steering wheel, gear shifter, and/or any airbags.
5. Make the final adjustments by having someone stand 20 feet in front of
the vehicle with the light running, and checking the light through the
front window. Tilt the light up or down as necessary and snug it as
close to the window as possible to help reduce flashback. Tighten the
hex head bolts once you have achieved the desired position.
CAUTION: Take extreme caution not to over tighten the screws!!!
Over tightening of the screws can strip the holes and result in a
faulty mount.
6. Skip to the Operation section.
It is the sole responsibility of the owner to ensure the warning light is
secure. Check your light every time you enter the vehicle to ensure that
it is mounted securely. Star Headlight and Lantern Co. assumes no
responsibility for the secure mounting of this light.

DL35-6-1 and DL35-12-1 Mounting
1. After attaching the brackets on your light as indicated in the Assembly
section on pages 2-3,place the light on the mounting surface where
you wish to mount the light. Snug the light as close as possible to the
window to help reduce flashback. Once in place, mark the bolt holes,
using the base as a template. You may need to remove the light from
the bracket to allow you easier access to mark the holes. Take care
not to move the bracket if you remove the light. If you are
mounting this on the rear deck of a vehicle, Star HIGHLY
RECOMMENDS that at least one of the bolts be mounted through the
steel framework to ensure a solid mount.
2. Once the holes are marked, remove the
bracket and check the underside of the
mounting surface to be sure you have access
to it. Take care to check that the area is free
of wires or any other components that may be
damaged. Then carefully drill a ¼” hole in the
three marked locations.
3. Reattach the bracket to the light, if
necessary, and install the light using the
three carriage bolts, three flat washers,
and three lock nuts shown in the diagram
to the right. It is not necessary to use
excessive force when tightening these
bolts down. You only need to snug them
up. Over tightening them may warp
your mounting surface!!
4. Loosen the hex head bolts slightly to allow for adjustments. Make the
final adjustments by having someone stand 20 feet behind the vehicle
(or in front, if you are mounting to the dash) with the light running, and
checking the light through the window. Tilt the light up or down as
necessary and snug it as close to the window as possible to help
reduce flashback. Tighten the hex head bolts once you have achieved
the desired position.

Operation
DL35-6 and DL35-12 (cig plug version only)
The DL35-6 and DL35-12 (cig plug version) can be plugged into the
+12VDC cig plug outlet in your vehicle. These units can be turned on and
off using the switch on the cig plug.
The Pattern Select Buttonis
used to set the desired pattern.
You may cycle through the
different patterns by briefly
pressing the Pattern Select Button
and releasing it. The DL35-6 and
DL35-12 have 35 patterns to
choose from. After the final
pattern is reached, the patterns
will cycle through again.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS
DIFFERENT THAN THE DL35-6-
1 and DL35-12-1, WHICH CAN
BE PROGRAMMED FOR UP TO
22 DIFFERENT PATTERNS.
If you are installing the DL35-12
and need SAE approval, you
cannot have the Pattern Select
button directly exposed. Enclosed
is a button hole cover (shown to
the right) that can be used to
cover the Pattern Select Button.
When the cover is removed you
can use a screwdriver or other
similar tool to press the button
inside the housing.
If at anytime you would like to go directly to the first pattern (Warn), simply
press and hold the pattern select button for three seconds until the light
blinks once. When the LEDs flash once, release the button and the light will
be in the WARN pattern. If you hold the button down for 6 seconds, the light
will blink once at 3 seconds and then twice at 6 seconds. After it blinks twice,
release the button and the light will be in the default pattern (Pattern 28: All
Quadflash w/Post Pop, All Doubleflash, All Flicker).
The DL35 lights will remember the pattern they were in when turned off
and display the same pattern when re-activated.

SAME When using a DL35-6 with outputs that are the SAME color, only use these patterns. Failure
to use this precaution in DL35-6 units that have different colored outputs will result in colors
other than those intended (such as pink if red and blue are the chosen LED modules).
Holding the button until the light flashes 3 times (approx. 9 sec.) will eliminate all of the
patterns from the list that are not recommended for the DL35-6 single color.
Patterns Used: 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, & 30
DIFF When using a DL35-6 with outputs that are DIFFERENT colors, only use these patterns.
Failure to use this precaution will result in reduced light output in DL35 units with outputs that
have the SAME color.
Holding the button until the light flashes 4 times (approx. 12 sec.) will eliminate all of the
patterns from the list that are not recommended for the DL35-6 dual color.
Patterns Used: 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, 33, & 34
NONE These patterns are NOT recommended for use on any DL35-6 units. Using these
patterns with any DL35-6 light may result in reduced light output or colors other than
those intended.

DL35-6 Patterns (cig plug version only)
The DL35-6and the DL35-12 both have the same programmable patterns.
All will work fine on the DL35-12 units.
The DL35-6can be built with two different colors or both colors the same.
Certain patterns work well with dual colors (DIFF), certain patterns work well
with single colors (SAME), and certain patterns do not work well on either
version of the DL35-6 (they are designed for the DL35-12). The chart on the
previous page will list which patterns are good for which DL35-6 version.
The lights are shipped from the factory with all of the patterns active. If you
would like to “de-activate” the certain patterns that are not recommended for
your particular DL35-6 version, there is an option to do so. Follow the
appropriate instructions below.
DL35-6 Single Color Patterns
(cig plug version only)
Holding the pattern select button
down for 9 seconds will cause the
light to blink 3 times (once at 3
seconds, twice at 6 seconds, and
three times at 9 seconds). This will
set the light into “single-color” mode
(SAME). These are the patterns
best suited for a DL35-6 with only
one color (Patterns 6, 8, 10, 12, 14,
20, 22, 24, 26, 28, & 30).
DL35-6 Dual Color Patterns
(cig plug version only)
Holding the pattern select button down
for 12 seconds will cause the light to
blink 4 times (once at 3 seconds,
twice at 6 seconds, three times at 9
seconds, and four times at 12
seconds). This will set the light into
“dual-color” mode (DIFF). These are
the patterns best suited for a DL35-6
with two different colors(Patterns 1, 2,
3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29,
33, & 34).

DL35-6-1 and DL35-12-1 (hard wire version only)
The DL35-6-1 and DL35-12-1 are powered and synchronized through the 3-wire
harness that comes pre installed on the light. Connect the three wires as
follows:
Black -Ground: Connect to a good chassis ground.
White -Synchro: You can connect the white wires from two DL35 lights
together to synchronize them (hardwire versions only).
Red -Power (+12 VDC): Connect to your On/Off switch (not supplied).

There are 5 basic synchronizable flash Pattern Types:

There are also two phases each, creating the option of synchronized or
alternating halves. In addition, there are two non-synchronizable patterns.
These settings will produce a total of 22 different Patterns.

Please Note: If you have two different colors on each of your heads, only use
Patterns 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, or 18.
Pattern Button Operation
•Pressing the pattern button until the lights stop blinking (approximately 1 second), and
releasing it advances the light to the next pattern.
•Holding down the pattern button until the unit BLINKS 1 time (approx. 3 sec.) jumps to
pattern #1.
•Holding down the pattern button until the unit BLINKS 2 times (approx. 6 sec.) jumps to
pattern #11.
•Holding down the pattern button until the unit BLINKS 3 times (approx. 9 sec.) jumps to
pattern #21.
•Holding down the pattern button until the unit BLINKS 4 times (approx. 12 sec.) toggles
the flasher in and out of Feedback Mode*.
* = While in Feedback Mode, the light will blink the number of the pattern it is changed
to (i.e. If you are in pattern 13 and press the pattern change button, the light will
blink 14 times, then go into pattern 14). The light is shipped with the Feedback
Mode off.

By connecting the white wires from two DL35-6-1 or two DL35-12-1 units
together, you can synchronize them with one another. YOU MUST
CONNECT THE WHITE WIRES TOGETHER BEFORE POWERING THE
UNITS UP. With both units flashing, set the desired Flash Pattern on the
first unit. Then set the Flash Pattern on the second unit, making sure it is
the same Pattern Type. Depending upon which Phase Type and which
Phase you select, the lights will generate variations of the Pattern Type you
have chosen for both units.
PLEASE NOTE: BOTH UNITS MUST BE ON THE SAME PATTERN TYPE
AND PHASE TYPE.
Phase Type
Phase Type refers to the output of each individual light. Each light is
electronically divided in half. The DL35-6-1 has 3 LEDs per half inside each
light. In the DL35-12-1, each half is a complete unit. These two halves can
be programmed to flash together (simultaneous) or opposite (alternating)
one another.
Phase
Phase refers to the output of each light in relation to the other light. If you
have your two heads programmed for the same Phase (i.e. 1A and 1A),
they will flash together (simultaneously). If they are in opposite Phases (i.e.
1A and 2A), they will flash opposite one another (alternating).
Flash Pattern Configurations
There are four basic flash pattern configurations that you can select from.
Please review the diagram below and decide which configuration you would
like to set your lights for. Then refer to the appropriate section on pages 11-
14 for specific programming instructions. Each configuration can be
programmed with one of the five different Pattern Types (A, B, C, D, or E
from the chart on page 10).

After you have connected your
wires as described on page 9,
activate the lights and program your
heads as follows:
1. Decide which Pattern Type
you would like to use:

Repeat this until you reach the
Phase 1S pattern you wish to
use (Patterns 1-5). If you
advance past the Random
Pattern (pattern 5), return to
Step 2.
4. Once the Flash Pattern is set on the
first head, program the second head
in a similar fashion. The second head
should utilize the same Pattern Type
(A, B, C, D, or E), but in Phase 2S
(Patterns 6-10 in chart on page 10).
To do this, add 5 to the pattern you
have programmed into the first light.
(i.e. if you have pattern 3 [Post Pop],
programmed into the first head,
program the second head for pattern
8 [3+5], which should also be Post
Pop, but Phase 2S).
5. Once you have the correct patterns programmed in, you may turn the lights off.
They will remember the programmed pattern and display that pattern the next
time they are activated.

Programming the lights forSAE and California Title 13 Compliance
(Use only Pattern 11 for Head 1 and use only Pattern 21 for Head 2)
IF YOU NEED TO INSTALL YOUR LIGHT WITH A STEADY-BURN SIDE TO MEET
CALIFORNIA TITLE 13 SPECIFICATIONS, YOU MUST FOLLOW THESE
INSTRUCTIONS.
After you have connected your
wires as described on page 8,
activate the lights and program
your heads as follows:
1. For THE FIRST HEAD
ONLY, hold down the
Pattern Select Button until
the LEDs blink once
(approximately 3 seconds).
This will set the light into
Pattern 1, which is the Warn
Pattern, under the
Simultaneous Phase, 1S.
2. Once the Flash Pattern is
set on the first head,
program the second head in
a similar fashion. The
second head must be
programmed for Pattern 21
(Steady Burn). To do this,
hold down the button on the
second head until the LEDs
blink three twice
(approximately 9 seconds).
This will automatically
advance the light into
Pattern 21, which is the
Steady Burn pattern.
3. Once you have the correct
patterns programmed in, you
may turn the lights off. They
will remember the
programmed pattern and
display that pattern the next
time they are activated.
Please Note: The DL35-12 is also
fully Title 13 compliant
as a stand alone light
with Head 1 in 1A Mode.
(The DL12-6 is not).

After your patterns have been programmed, activate your lights and stand
back 20’ from the vehicle to be sure they are not obstructed by anything,
and to ensure that they are at the optimal viewing angle. Loosen the hex
head bolts slightly to allow the lights to be adjusted up or down if necessary.
Once they are aligned properly, tighten the bolts.
ONE YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY
The manufacturer warrants each new product against factory defects in material and
workmanship for one year after the date of purchase. The owner will be responsible for
returning to the Service Center any defective item(s) with the transportation costs prepaid. The
manufacturer will, without charge, repair or replace at its option, products, or part(s), which its
inspection determines to be defective. Repaired or replacement item(s) will be returned to the
purchaser with transportation costs prepaid from the service point. A copy of the purchaser's
receipt must be returned with the defective item(s) in order to qualify for the warranty coverage.
Exclusions from this warranty include, but are not limited to, bulbs, strobe tubes, domes, and/or
the finish. This warranty shall not apply to any light, which has been altered, such that in the
manufacturer's judgment, the performance or reliability has been affected, or if any damage has
resulted from abnormal use or service.
There are no warranties expressed or implied (including any warranty of merchantability or
fitness), which extend this warranty period. The loss of use of the product, loss of time,
inconvenience, commercial loss or consequential damages, including costs of any
labor, are not covered. The manufacturer reserves the right to change the design of the
product without assuming any obligation to modify any product previously manufactured.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights. You might also have additional rights that may
vary from state to state. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty
lasts. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential
damages. Therefore, the above limitation(s) or exclusion(s) may not apply to you.

If a product must be returned for any reason, please contact our
Customer Service Department to obtain a Returned Goods Authorization
number (RGA #) before you ship the product back.
Please write the RGA # clearly on the package near the mailing label.
The M-TECHTM DL35 uses state-of-the-art Light Emitting Diode (LED)
technology. This light is comprised of ultra-bright LEDs that are
operated in a multiplexed mode to efficiently produce light output with
lifetimes up to 100,000 hours. Under normal circumstances, you will
not need to replace any lights in this light. If any of the LED's in your
light do fail, please contact Star Headlight for arrangements to have
them repaired.
NOTE: Most failures can be traced to wiring and battery problems. Check
"quick-connects” and wiring to insure that correct voltage/polarity is
reaching the electronic strobe light/LED beacon.
