Hardware Installation
Installing the Full Prole Bracket
By default the Low Prole Bracket is attached to the Mini
Adapter Card. Depending on your system conguration you
may need to remove the Low Prole Bracket and replace it
with the Full Prole Bracket (included).
1. Using a Small Phillips Head Screwdriver (sold separately),
remove the two Bracket Screws securing the Low Prole
Bracket to the Mini Adapter Card.
2. Align the Screw Holes on the Mini Adapter Card with the
Screw Holes on the Low Prole Bracket. Making sure the
Mini Adapter Card is sitting on top of the Screw Holes on
the Full Prole Bracket.
3. Insert the Bracket Screws through the Mini Adapter Card
and into the Screw Holes on the Full Prole Bracket.
4. Using the Small Phillips Head Screwdriver, tighten the
Bracket Screws, being careful not to over-tighten.

Installing the Mini Adapter Card
Warning! Mini Adapter Cards, like all computer equipment,
can be severely damaged by static electricity. Be sure that
you are properly grounded before opening your computer
case or touching the Mini Adapter Card. StarTech.com recom-
mends that you wear an anti-static strap when installing any
computer component. If an anti-static strap is unavailable,
discharge yourself of any static electricity build-up by touch-
ing a large grounded metal surface (such as the computer
case) for several seconds. Handle the Mini Adapter Card by its
edges and not the gold connectors.
1. Turn o the Host Computer and disconnect any Peripheral
Devices that are connected (e.g. printer, external hard drives,
etc.).
2. Unplug the Power Cable from the back of the Host
Computer.
3. Remove the Cover from the Host Computer’s Case.
Note: Consult the documentation that came with the Host
Computer for details about how to remove the Cover safely.
4. Align the PCIe Connector Gap on the Mini Adapter Card
with the notch on the Mini PCI Express slot on the Host
Computer’s Mother Board.
5. Gently insert the Mini Adapter Card (mini card) into a Mini
PCI Express Slot on the Host Computer’s Mother Board.
6. Securely fasten the Mini Adapter Card to the Host
Computer’s Motherboard.

Note: Dierent systems may have dierent methods for
installing Mini Adapter Cards, so please refer to documen-
tation for your system/board for more specic installation
instructions for your particular application.
7. Connect the LP4 Power Connector on the Mini Adapter
Card to an LP4 connector on the System Power Supply.
8. Locate an open Expansion Card Slot (e.g. PCI, PCI Express,
etc.) and remove the Metal Cover Plate on the rear of the
Host Computer’s Case/Chassis.
9. Place the expansion card bracket from the Mini Adapter
Card in the opening and fasten the card’s bracket to the rear
of the case.
10. Place the Cover back onto the Computer Case.
11. Reconnect the Power Cable to the back of the Computer.
12. Reconnect all of the Peripheral Devices that were
disconnected in step 1.
13. Connect Peripheral Devices to the FireWire Connectors on
the Mini Adapter Card.
Driver Installation
No driver or software installation is required for supported
operating systems, as this card is natively supported.
