General Description
StarTech.com’s PCICOMBO PCI Network card comes with full support for duplex
modes and autoconfiguration through a workstation’s PCI BIOS, this PCI Card features
optional AUI connectors. Bus Mastered to greatly reduce system CPU load and sporting
a boot ROM socket for optional RPL boot ROM, this product is designed to provide
customers with an optional, dual interface for the Networking needs.

Getting Started
This section is designed to help you prepare the PCICOMBO card for installation. Please
read through this section carefully before attempting to install the card.
Unpacking the PCICOMBO card
This package should contain:
1 x PCICOMBO Network card
1 x BNCT connector
1 x driver disk
Installation
Network cards, like all computer equipment are subject to static electricity. Be sure that
you are properly grounded. StarTech.com recommends that you wear an anti-static strap
and that your system is unplugged before doing any work on the computer.
Card Installation
1. Turn off the computer and remove its cover.
2. Insert the card into a free PCI slot.
3. Connect to the network using AUI, thin or twisted-pair cable depending on the
connector you are using.
Card Configuration/ Diagnostic
Basically, the card is completely self-configurable, requiring no intervention from the
user. There are only 3 items that can be configured: Medium type, Full/Half duplex, and
Boot ROM enables. You can also run diagnostic of the card from the setup.exe program
provided with the PCICOMBO card.
Insert the disk provided, in DOS prompt, execute setup.exe command and you will see
the following:
• View Configuration
• Manual Setup Configuration
• Diagnostic
• Exit
Please follow the easy menu-driven program to configure the card.

Driver Installation
For detailed information, please refer to the document in the disk provided.
Examples:
1. For NetWare client, please execute the following:

2. For NetWare server, execute the following:

Boot Rom Installation (Optional)
The PCICOMNO card provides a socket for a remote boot ROM. With a boot ROM, a
host computer can load the operating systems over the network.
1. Plug in the boot ROM to the appropriate position, make sure the direction is correct.
2. Enable the boot ROM function. Please see the Setup program for details.
AUI Bracket Installation (Optional)
You can buy another bracket containing an AUI connector from your dealer.
1. Hook up the cable to the connector pins market “AUI”. Make sure the red line on the
cable is positioned in the “pin 1” location.
2. Secure the bracket to the PC.
Troubleshooting
The most common factors that cause an adapter to fail are configuration conflicts and
cabling problems. PCI cards shouldn’t have any conflct problems due to Plug and Play
specifications. One should check the cable and its terminator. Also, use the adapter LED
indicators and diagnostic program. For information on the Diagnostic Program, please
see the Setup program. If the problem presists, call your dealer for help.
LED Indicators
The LEDs help you monitor the network status. Their functions depend on the type of
cable used.
*Link monitors the data link status on the UTP cable. It turns ON when there is data
linked, and OFF when there is a bad connection.
*Activity blinks when there is data transmission/reception.
