SPECIAL INFORMATION
- Keep children under the age of3 away from
the appliance if constant supervision cannot be
guaranteed.
- Children from the age of 3 to 7 may switch the
appliance on and off, provided they are super-
vised or have been instructed in the safe oper-
ation of the appliance and understand any risks
that may result. This is subject to the appliance
having been installed as described. Children from
the age of 3 to 7 must not plug the power cable
into its socket nor regulate the appliance.
- The appliance may be used by children aged8
and older and persons with reduced physical,
sensory or mental capabilities or a lack of expe-
rience and know-how, provided that they are su-
pervised or they have been instructed on how to
use the appliance safely and have understood the
resulting risks.
- Children must never play with the appliance. Chil-
dren must never clean the appliance or perform
user maintenance unless they are supervised.
- Parts of the appliance can get very hot and may
cause burns. Particular caution is advised when
children or vulnerable persons are present.
- Never cover the appliance.
- Never install the appliance directly below a wall
socket.
- Install the appliance in such a way that the con-
trol equipment cannot be touched by a person in
the bath or shower.

- Only use a permanent connection to the power
supply. The appliance must be able to be sepa-
rated from the power supply by an isolator that
disconnects all poles with at least 3mm contact
separation.
- The power cable may only be replaced (for exam-
ple if damaged) by a qualified contractor author-
ised by the manufacturer, using an original spare
part.
- Secure the appliance as described in chapter "In-
stallation/ Installation".

for both the user and qualified contractors.
The chapter "Installation" is intended for qualified contractors.
Note Read these instructions carefully before using the appli-
ance and retain them for future reference.

2. Safety
2.1 Intended use
This appliance is designed to heat living areas.
This appliance is intended for domestic use. It can be used safely
by untrained persons. The appliance can also be used in a non-do-
mestic environment, e.g.in a small business, as long as it is used
in the same way.
Any other use beyond that described shall be deemed inappropri-
ate. Observation of these instructions and of instructions for any
accessories used is also part of the correct use of this appliance.

2.2 General safety instructions
Observe the following safety instructions and regulations.
- The electrical installation and installation of the appliance
must only be carried out by a qualified contractor or by our
customer service engineers.
- The qualified contractor is responsible for adherence to
all currently applicable regulations during installation and
commissioning.
- Operate the appliance only when fully installed and with all
safety equipment fitted.
WARNING Injury The appliance may be used by children aged 8 and older
and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental
capabilities or a lack of experience and know-how, pro-
vided that they are supervised or they have been in-
structed on how to use the appliance safely and have
understood the resulting risks. Children must never play
with the appliance. Children must never clean the ap-
pliance or perform user maintenance unless they are
supervised.

-in rooms where the appliance is at risk from fire or
explosion as a result of chemicals, dust, gases or

zines, containers with floor polish or naphtha, spray cans
or similar on the appliance or in direct proximity to it.
CAUTION Burns The surfaces of the appliance casing and the expelled air
become hot during operation (above 80 °C).

3. Appliance description
Electrically generated heat is stored with this appliance. The elec-
trical heat is generated when the power supply utility enables the
supply of cheaper off-peak power.
The times when this supply is enabled depend on the relevant
power supply utility. The times when it is enabled are predomi-
nantly at night.
Subject to the required room temperature, the stored heat is
transferred to the room as hot air via a fan, and partially via the
appliance surface.

4.3 Heat store
The degree of heat storage (charge) is set via the charge controller.
The settings you have to make via the charge controller depend
on whether you use an appliance with or without a central weath-
er-compensated charge control system.
The weather-compensated charge control system is located in
the control panel.
4.3.1 Appliances without a weather-compensated charge
control system
 Adjust the “charge controller” rotary selector according to
the following information.

Once you have familiarised yourself with the appliance, you will
be able to find the correct setting as appropriate.
4.3.2 Appliances with a weather-compensated charge control
system
 Set the “charge control” rotary selector to stage 3.
The weather-compensated charge control system ensures the
correct charge level.
For differentiated control of individual appliances, you can also
manually match the charge volume via the charge controller.
Note Observe the instructions of the charge control system or
group control unit.
4.4 Heat transfer
The heat transfer (discharge) is regulated via a room tempera-
ture controller, either mounted on the wall or integrated inside
the appliance. We supply the room temperature controller as an
accessory.
The room temperature controller automatically controls the heat
transfer via the fan so that the adjusted room temperature is kept
constant.
Note On extremely cold days, it is advisable not to switch off
the room temperature controller when you are away for
several days, but to set a reduced room temperature e.g.
10°C. This setting prevents the room temperature from
falling too low (frost protection).
5. Cleaning, care and maintenance
If a pale brownish discolouration appears on the appliance casing,
wipe this off as soon as possible with a damp cloth and hot water
with washing-up liquid.
 Clean the appliance when cold with ordinary cleaning
products.
 Avoid abrasive or corrosive cleaning products. Never spray
cleaning spray into the air slot.

5.1 Cleaning the fluff filter
Note Clean the fluff filter in the air inlet grille regularly. This
will ensure trouble-free discharging of the appliance. If
a fluff filter is added, switch OFF the fan.

 Remove the air inlet grille from the catch springs by pulling it
forwards at the bottom.
 Release the air inlet grille by pulling it out of the upper lock-
ing mechanism.

 Press the fluff filter out of the grille. Use, for example, a
screwdriver for this.
 Clean the fluff filter with a brush or a vacuum cleaner.
 Replace the fluff filter in the grille and click into place over
the studs.

6. Troubleshooting

7. Safety
Only a qualified contractor should carry out installation, commis-
sioning, maintenance and repair of the appliance.
7.1 General safety instructions
We guarantee trouble-free function and operational reliability only
if original accessories and spare parts intended for the appliance
are used.
7.2 Instructions, standards and regulations
WARNING Electrocution Carry out all electrical connection and installation work
in accordance with relevant regulations.
WARNING Electrocution Only use a permanent connection to the power supply.
The appliance must be able to be separated from the
power supply by an isolator that disconnects all poles
with at least 3mm contact separation.
Material losses Observe the type plate. The specified voltage must match
the mains voltage.
Size the equipment according to the rated consumption
of the appliances.
Material losses Secure the appliance to the wall or floor in such a way
as to ensure stability.

8.1 Mode of operation
The storage blocks are heated via the heating elements between
the rows of storage blocks. The charge can be infinitely adjusted
with the charge controller. The start and duration of the charge
time are set by the local power supply utility.
Two integral protective temperature controllers and a high limit
safety cut-out prevent the appliance overheating. The protective
temperature controllers switch back on automatically, but the high
limit safety cut-out must be switched back on by pressing the
button in the centre of the high limit safety cut-out after the cause
of the fault has been removed.
The stored heat is transferred via a fan, and partially also via the
appliance surface. For this, the room air is drawn in by the fan
through the air inlet grille, and released through the air ducts in
the storage blocks, which heat it.
Before the hot air produced in this way is released via the air
outlet grille, it is mixed with cooler indoor air via two mixing air
dampers, so the expelled air does not exceed the highest permis-
sible temperature. The position of the mixing air damper, and thus
the mixing ratio of the air, is regulated via a bi-metal controller.

9. Preparations
9.1 Installation site
WARNING Burns Ensure that the mounting wall is resistant to temperature
up to at least 85°C and the floor is resistant to temper-
atures up to at least 80°C.
The installation area of the appliance must be even and have
sufficient load-bearing capacity to prevent the casing buckling.
The stability of the appliance must be ensured by fixing it to the
wall or floor (see chapter "Installation/Installation versions").

10.2 Adjusting the charge controller
Note Observe the following information. After installation,
these settings can be made, in some cases to a limited
extent, subject to the installation location and version.
10.2.1 Reducing the connected load
WARNING Electrocution According to the technical connection conditions of
power supply utilities, a single phase connection may
only be made up to 2 kW (ETS 200).
The appliance connection is fully wired at the factory to the max-
imum output (100%).
You can reduce the connected load by three output stages by mov-
ing or removing jumpers at the terminals, in conjunction with a
charge level reduction at the charge controller (see chapter "Spec-
ification/Reducing the connected load").
Size the cross-sections and fuse according to the maximum pos-
sible output of the appliance.

X17 Jumper for output reduction has four stages.
X16 Jumper for control signal matching has four stages.
A1 Electronic charge controller
Jumper X17 is located on the electronic charge controller, and
is used to select the charge level of the heat storage part in four
stages (positions I, II, III or IV), in conjunction with the adjustable
connected load.
If the jumper is plugged into the other row of pins, a reduced
charge level results (the switch-off temperature of the electronic
charge controller is reduced).
10.2.3 Fault characteristics of the electronic charge controller
The charge controller in the appliance is set at the factory to "pos-
itive fault characteristics (80%PS)". This means if the charge
control system is faulty (e.g. control signal failure), the appliance
is fully charged.
If the appliance is connected to a digital charge control system,
you can change to "negative fault characteristics" (storage heater
is not charged) by replugging jumper X16 to position "80 %NS".

10.2.4 Operation with charge control system
Observe the relevant information in the charge control system
instructions.
Control signal
The electronic charge controller can be connected to different con-
trol unit control signals (ED), and can therefore also be integrated
into existing systems.
The electronic charge controller is set at the factory to an AC
control signal (alternating current signal at terminals "A1+A2")
with 80 % ED.
Other ED signals (68/72, 37/40 %) can be selected by replugging
jumper X16. This is necessary if the appliance is to be integrated
into an existing system that regulates charging with one of the
ED signals listed.
Connection to DC control signal
If a charge control system with a DC control signal (DC voltage
0.91 V - 1.43 V) is installed, the control signal must be connected
to the control terminals X3 covered at the factory "DC + (positive)
and DC - (negative)" (observe polarity).
WARNING Electrocution Never connect the 230 V AC control signal to the termi-
nals "DC + and DC -". This would completely destroy the
charge controller.
10.2.5 Output matching according to an increased rated charge
duration
If jumpers at the terminals are moved or removed, the connected
load can be matched to the rated charge duration specified by the
power supply utility. The storage heater is sized at the factory to
a rated charge duration of 8 hours.
 Observe the details specified in chapter "Specification/Output
matching".
10.3 Power supply/connecting cables

WARNING Electrocution  Before any work on the appliance, isolate the con-
necting cables in the control panel.
 Route the power cables and connecting cables for the charge
and discharge controllers through the aperture in the appli-
ance back panel into the appliance and connect them (see
chapter "Specification/Connections").
 Remove approx. 260mm of insulation from the connecting
cables and trim as required. The cables must not be placed
next to the air slot in the side panel.
10.4 Installation versions
10.4.1 Wall mounting
(where the wall has adequate load bearing capacity)
For securing to the wall, there is a hole in the appliance back panel
near the control panel.
 Secure the appliance with a suitable screw to the wall to pre-
vent it from tipping over.
10.4.2 Floor mounting
Alternatively, you can secure the appliance to the floor with screws
through the four holes (Ø9 mm) in the appliance feet.
 Remove the air outlet and air inlet grille and the air rout-
ing assembly (see chapter "Preparations/Opening the
appliance").
 Secure the appliance with suitable screws to the floor.

10.5 Inserting storage blocks
WARNING Burns Broken insulation can lead to the casing overheating.
 Check the thermal insulation in the appliance for transport
damage.
 Replace faulty thermal insulation.
The appliance must be completely free of foreign bodies such as
parts of the packaging.
 Remove the cover panel and cardboard inserts from the inte-
rior of the appliance.
The storage blocks are delivered in separate packaging. Storage
blocks with slight transport damage can be used. This does not
impair the function of the appliance.

 When raising the heating elements, ensure the through
holes in the side insulation are not widened by the heating
elements.
 Insert the first storage block, with the heating element cavity

10.6 Cleaning the appliance
 Clean the appliance after installation and inserting the stor-
age blocks. For this, proceed as follows:

 Lift the fan out. To do this, loosen the screws located at the
front on the retaining brackets.
 Observe the cable routing.
With some appliances, the temperature controller - discharge (N5)
incl. retaining bracket must be unscrewed.
Material losses When depositing the components you have removed,
ensure that the wires are not damaged.
 Clean the floor plate and fan. Make sure not to damage the
fins.
 Then refit the fan, and if necessary the tempering device and
air routing assembly.
 Observe the correct cable routing.
10.7 Power supply
10.7.1 General information
WARNING Electrocution If the appliance is connected to an automatic charge con-
trol system, there may be voltage at terminals A1/Z1 and
A2/Z2 even if the fuses have been removed.
The power connection of the heating elements is made with 3/N/
PE~400V. For the appliance ETS 200, a connection with 1/N/
PE~230 V is also possible.
The connection with NYM is possible. The number of power cables,
conductors and cross-sections depends on the connected load of
the appliance and the type of power connection, as well as on
special regulations from the power supply utility.
Observe the relevant wiring diagrams (see chapter "Specification").
10.7.2 Connecting the appliance
WARNING Electrocution Ensure the earth conductor is properly connected.
Material losses Before connection, insulate the cable for the DC control
signal connection with a sheath inside the appliance from
the strain relief to the terminal.
Note Voltage must be present at terminal "L" of terminal strip
X2 during the charge time. If there is no separate power
supply available for this, you can route a jumper from "L"
to "L1". In this case, you must then also route a jumper
from terminal "N" on terminal strip X2 to terminal "N" on
terminal strip X1 (this is only possible with wall mounted
room temperature controllers).
 If necessary, apply strain relief to the power cables and con-
nect according to the wiring diagram inside the appliance (on
the inside of the r.h. side panel), or according to the connec-
tion diagram in the chapter "Specification".
If the angled panel located in the control panel interior for mount-
ing the mains terminals is not easily accessible because the side
clearance is inadequate, you can pivot it forwards after undoing
the screw in the back panel.
10.7.3 Control without heating contactor
If a heating contactor is not installed (may be required by the
power supply utility), the thermal relay inside the storage heater
fitted at the factory can be used.
 For this, connect either the power supply utility signals
"LF+N" or the signals "SH+N" of the relevant charge control
system directly to the terminals "L-SH+N" of the storage
heater.
 Remove the jumpers (L)-(L-SH) and (N)-(N) (see chapter
"Specification/Connection diagrams").
The heating elements in the appliance are not switched on until
the LF from the power supply utility has been enabled and the
electronic charge controller has enabled charging.

10.8.1 Affixing information labels
If you install the appliance in rooms used for commercial pur-
poses, e.g. hotels, holiday houses or schools, you must affix the
information label provided to the appliance ("Never place or lean
objects on top of or against the appliance").
 Affix the information label in a clearly visible place on the
appliance cover.
11. Commissioning
11.1 Checks before commissioning
 Check the function of the fan by switching on the room tem-
perature controller.
11.2 Initial start-up
11.2.1 Commissioning report
 During initial charging, determine the charge in kWh and
compare the measured value with the maximum charge for
the appliance (see chapter “Specification/Data table”).
Material losses The maximum charging must not be exceeded.
11.2.2 Charging
During initial charging, a smell may develop.
 Make sure that the room is adequately ventilated. Partial-
ly opening windows, for example, results in a 1.5-fold air
change.
If you install the appliance in the bedroom, initial charging should
not take place while anyone is sleeping there.
You can start the appliance directly after a function check has
been carried out.
 Set the charge via the “charge controller” rotary selector or
the charge control system.
12. Recommissioning
12.2.1 Repair and modification of the appliance
When reinstalling an appliance that had been dismantled for re-
pair, or one that had already been in operation in another place,
proceed as follows:
 Replace the parts of the thermal insulation if you notice any
damage or changes that may impair safety.
 Check the insulation of the appliance and measure the rated
consumption.
 Start the appliance according to the chapter
"Commissioning".
12.2.2 Modifying the appliance
For modifications, attachments and installations, the instructions
provided with the relevant kit are valid.
13. Handover
Explain the functions of the appliance to the user. Draw special
attention to the safety instructions. Hand over these operating and
installation instructions to the user.

14. Troubleshooting
14.1 Status display of the charge controller
LED Status Fault
Green No fault The charge controller is working correctly.
Red Fault The rotary selector for charging (R1) or the core
sensor (B1) is faulty or not connected. Not charg-
ing.
Orange Fault Internal discharge controller (A2) is faulty.
Room temperature sensor (B2) is faulty or not
connected.
The rotary selector for discharging (R2) is faulty or
not connected. The room temperature is regulated
to approx. 22°C.
14.2 Fault table
Fault Cause Remedy
The appliance does not heat up. Heating element contactor control is faulty. Check the heating element contactor control.
No power supply to the storage heater Check the fuse/MCB in the main distribution box.
No power supply at the charge controller. Check the fine-wire fuse between the mains terminals X1 and
X2 (see chapter "Troubleshooting/Replacing a fuse").
Check the power supply. See chapter "Power connection" and/
or "Specification".
High limit safety cut-out (F1) has responded. Reset the tempering device (see chapter "Resetting the high
limit safety cut-out").
The charge control system is incorrectly adjusted. Check the charge control system settings.
The charge controller is not working properly. Check the position of the jumpers at charge controller A1.
When the outside temperature is mild, the
appliance charge is too high (when using a
charge control system).
The transmission of the control signal is interrupted. Check whether control signal Z1 of the charge control system
to terminal A1/Z1 in the storage heater is active.
The heating curve is incorrectly adjusted. Check the charge control system settings
The outside temperature sensor is faulty. Test the outside temperature sensor and replace it if required.
The charge controller is transmitting an incorrect
control signal.
Check the position of the jumpers at charge controller A1.
When the outside temperature is mild, the
appliance charge is too high (when adjusting
the charge manually).
Thermo-mechanical charge controller settings at the
storage heater.
Check the setting at the charge controller.
Appliance does not discharge.
The fans are not turning. Check whether the room temperature controller has switched
on and whether voltage is present at terminal LE in the stor-
age heater.
The fluff filter in the air inlet grille is clogged. Clean the fluff filter. See chapter "Cleaning, care and mainte-
nance".
Check whether the air supply is obstructed, e.g. due to thick
carpets.
Check whether the protective temperature controller (N5) in
the air outlet has responded.

WARNING Electrocution Isolate the appliance from the power supply before
changing the fuse.
The electronic charge controller is also protected with a replace-
able fuse.
This fuse is located in a two-part fuse holder, positioned between
mains terminals X1 and X2.
To change the fuse, pull the upper part with the fuse out of the
lower part.

15. Maintenance
The fan duct behind the air outlet grille must be checked every
two years. Small dirt deposits can build up here.
We recommend also checking the control components. The safety
and control components, and the entire charge and discharge
control system should be checked at least within the first ten years
after commissioning.
