Solar Charging:
Connect the USB charging cable to the output of the Power-Flex and the USB input of
your phone or device. Unfold the Power-Flex and place the solar panels in a source of
natural sunlight. Solar charging will not work with indoor lighting.
The charging current depends on the strength of the sunlight and is aected by time,
place, weather conditions, and sunlight angle. When charging through a window, UV
light may be ltered out, which will reduce the charging current.
Every smartphone and device has a ‘Minimum Charging Current’ (MCC), which is the
minimum electrical current the smartphone or device requires to start charging. So,
the amount of sunlight the Power-Flex needs to be able to charge a smartphone or
device, depends on the specic MCC of the smartphone or device.
Many smartphones and tablets have a high MCC, which means that it needs to be a
very bright sunny day in direct sunlight for the Power-Flex to be able to charge them.
Therefore, we recommend using a power bank as an intermediary between the Pow-
er-Flex and a smartphone or tablet. This is because most power banks have a low
MCC, meaning that the Power-Flex can provide charge to them n a wide range of
light conditions. For example, on overcast days the Power-Flex has been proven to
provide charge to SunSaver power banks. While this will be a low rate of charge, it is
much better than no charge at all. The power bank can then be used to reliably
charge a smartphone at night or on rainy days. Please see over the page.
