Terminology list
This manual will contain a number of technical terms. It is important to know what they mean before you begin
installing and configuring the router.

devicessuchasanetworkprinter,internet-enabledBlu-Rayplayerornetworkstoragedevice/NAS.Ifyouwishtousepowerlineadaptersto

• PowerlinesecurityBydefault,yourpowerlinenetworkisnotsecured.Thismeansthatitispossiblethatothersinthesamebuildingorbuildings
nearbycanuseapowerlineadaptertogainaccesstoyournetwork.Powerlinesecurityprotectsyournetworksothatonlyauthorizedadapters

Installing the adapter(s)
Tobuildapowerlinenetwork,youneedaminimumoftwoadapters.Oneadaptertocreateapowerlinesignalonyourpowerlines,andoneormore
otheradapterstopickupthesignalandpassittoyourcomputerorothernetworkdevice.Asinglepairofpowerlineadaptersisbestviewedasacable
replacement,theadapterscanbeplacedbetweenforexample,arouterandacomputer,anditwillbeasifthetwodevicesareconnecteddirectlyto
eachotherbyacable.Inthecaseofthe3portLC206adapter,uptothreedevicescanbeconnectedtoasingleadapteratthesametime.
Installation
PowerlineaswellasEthernetnetworktechnologyisinmostcasesplug&playandself-configuring.Youdonotneedtoturnoffyourrouter,modem
orcomputertoinstalltheadapters.
Step 1: Usethebundlednetworkcabletoconnectthefirstadaptertoyourrouterormodem,and
puttheadapterinapowersocket.Checkthatthe“LAN”ledisburning.
Step 2: Usethebundlednetworkcabletoconnectthesecondadaptertoyourcomputerandput
theadapterinapowersocket.Checkthatthe“LAN”ledisburning.
Note:Itisrecommendedthatyouavoidpluggingtheadapterinapowerstriporextensioncord,UPSorasocketwithsurgeprotectionand/orline
filter.Forbestperformance,plugtheadapterdirectlyinawallsocket.
Afterafewseconds,the“Data”LEDsonbothadaptersshouldbeburning,yourpowerlinenetworkisnowoperationalandyourcomputerwillhave
Internetaccess.Ifyoudonothaveinternetaccess,pleaseconsultthe“Troubleshooting”sectionofthismanual.
Afteryournetworkisoperational,itisrecommendedthatyousecureitusingpowerlinesecurity.Formoreinformationpleaseseethe“Securingyour
powerlinenetwork”sectionofthismanual.
Extending your powerline network
Extendingyourpowerlinenetworkisassimpleasconnectingthecableandplugginginanotheradapter.Pleaseberemindedthatifyournetworkis
secured,youwillneedtofollowtheprocedureforaddinganadaptertoyoursecurednetworkdescribedinthe“Securingyourpowerlinenetwork”
sectionofthismanual.
Warning:Neverconnectmorethanonepowerlineadaptertoyourrouter.
Note:AmodemcanonlyprovideanInternetsignaltoasinglenetworkdevice,andhencecanonlybeusedwithamaximumoftwopowerline
adapters.Ifyouhavemultiplenetworkdevicesarouterisrequired.Inmostcases,aroutercanberecognizedbyhavingmultipleEthernetnetwork
ports,usuallyfour,labeled“LAN”.WherasamodemonlyhasasingleEthernetnetworkport.Whenindoubt,contactyourInternetServiceProvider
(ISP)formoreinformation.

Advanced:Technically,theadaptersfunctionlikeavirtualEthernetswitch.Ifyouwouldhaveapowerstripwith5powerlineadaptersinit,thiswould
befunctionallyidenticaltoa5portEthernetswitch.Similarly,thepowerlineadapter’sport(s)canbeextendedfurtherwithanEthernetswitch.
Securing your powerline network
Securingyourpowerlinenetworkiseasywiththesecuritybuttonfoundonthebottomorsideoftheadapter.Itisdoneasfollows:
Initial security with two adapters A and B
1. PressandholdthesecuritybuttononadapterAuntilthelightsgoout
2. PressandholdthesecuritybuttononadapterBuntilthelightsgoout
3. Wait30secondsuntilonbothadaptersonlythepowerLEDislit
4. PressandholdthesecuritybuttononadapterAfor1second
5. PressandholdthesecuritybuttononadapterBfor1second
6. Onbothadaptersthelightswillgooutandturnbackon.Afteramaximumof1minutetheconnectionisestablishedandsecured.
Adding another adapter X to the secured network
1. PressandholdthesecuritybuttononadapterXuntilthelightsgoout
2. Wait30secondsuntilononlythepowerLEDislitonadapterX
3. PressandholdthesecuritybuttononadapterAorBfor1second

Bundled software
Thebundledsoftwareoffersadditionalmanagementandsecurityfeaturessuchasviewingtheadaptersonyournetworkandtheirspeedandsignal
strength,andconfiguringsecuritymanuall.Thesefeaturesarebeyondthescopeofthismanualandnormallyonlyneededforproblemdiagnosisand
techsupport.
Troubleshooting
Thischapterofthemanualwillexplainanumberofcommonissuesthatyoumayrunintoandpossiblesolutions.
• ThepowerlineLEDislitonalladapters,butIcannotaccesstheinternetfromoneormorecomputers
• Thisissuecanhavetwocommoncauses:
1. Checkthatyouhavearouterorthatyourmodemhasanintegratedrouter.Ifyouareindoubt,contactyourinternetserviceprovider(ISP)for
moreinformation.
2. IncorrectIPsettingsonyourcomputer.Youcancheckandadjustyoursettingsasfollows:

• Mycomputerindicatesthatitisnotconnectedtoanetwork.
• Thisproblemisusuallyresolvedbycarefullycheckingallconnectionsandindicatorlights.Forawiredcomputer,followthenetworkcabletothe
adaperandchecktheconnectionandthecorrespondingLANlightontheadapter.Itmustbelit.
• Somethinghasgonewrongandtheadapterneedstobereset
• Toresettheadapter,useanunfoldedpapercliptopressandholdtheresetbuttonfor2seconds.Thelightsoftheadapterwillgooffandthe
adapterwillrestartwiththefactorydefaultsettingsandnosecurity.
