Tactical Controls Limited Ultra-sonic Operator Panel Instruction Manual
Introduction
This specification describes an operator panel used to control the operation of a ultra-sonic
cleaning unit.
This cleaning unit consists of a small stainless steel tank, 200mm x 150mm x 100mm (deep)
typical, filled with cleaning liquid into which items to be cleaned are immersed. The whole is
caused to vibrate at 30KHz. Microscopic, cavitation bubbles within the fluid implode and
hammer out adhered "dirt" from items to be cleaned.
The vibration process itself causes some heating of the tank fluid, but most units require the
application of additional heat for control at a given set temperature. The cleaning process is
set to run for a set time and then the unit is automatically switched off.

Description
The operator panel consists of a single PCB which houses the power supply, sensor input
conditioning circuitry, microcontroller, two 7-segment LED display for temperature and timer
indication, six status indicating LEDs, and output circuitry for temperature and timer.
The operator panel is mounted on the fascia plate inside the cleaning unit using six nuts and
washers through six studs on the fascia plate and its distance behind the fascia plate is fixed
by six spacers. Both the display and the push buttons are protected by a polyester fascia.
All the connections to the panel are via faston connectors.

Power supply
The control panel requires 0-12 Vac 6VA max. 50Hz supply.
Sensor input
A resistance thermometer PRT100 is supplied as the temperature sensor.
Control outputs
Relay outputs are used for both temperature and timer output. The rating for both relays is
240Vac 5A max.
User interface
The user interface comprises two 7-segment green LED display, 6 LEDs, 4 green and 2
amber, and five push buttons. The 7-segment display is used to indicate time setting, time
remaining, measured temperature and setpoint temperature. The green LEDs are used to
indicate the status of the display which includes time setting, time remaining, measured
temperature and setpoint temperature. The amber LEDs are for the status of the heater and
timer output.
One of the push buttons "CIRCULAR ARROW" is used to access display time setting, time
remaining, measured temperature and setpoint temperature. Another button "UP ARROW"
enables the time setting or setpoint temperature to be incremented and the third button
"DOWN ARROW" enables the time setting or setpoint temperature to be decremented. The
fourth button "HEAT" is used to enable the heater output for temperature control. The last
button "SONICS" is used to start and stop the ultra-sonic output timer. Both increment and
decrement buttons are equipped with auto-repeat.

Installation
The operator panel is mounted on the inside of the stainless steel fascia plate using 6 M3 nuts
and washers, M4x7 clear hole spacers on the 6 M3 studs.
The fascia label is put on the front of the fascia plate using double sided adhesive.
All the connections are made using faston connectors. Blades of 0.11" are used for 12Vac
supply and sensor input. Blades of 0.25" are used for 240Vac mains, heater output and sonic
output.
The 12Vac supply is connected to CONN3 and CONN4 (12VAC) terminals on the Printed
Circuit Board (PCB).
The sensor input is connected to CONN6 and CONN7 (PRT) terminals on the PCB.
The 240Vac mains supply is connected to CONN2 (MAINS) terminal on the PCB.
The heater output is connected CONN1 (HEATER) terminal on the PCB.
The sonic output is connected CONN3 (SONIC) terminal on the PCB.
