Preparation
Observe ESD Precautions
This equipment contains devices that are susceptible to damage from electrostatic discharge
(ESD). Handle every device carefully and in strict accordance with the procedures defined in the
databook provided by the manufacturer.
For information on anti-static precautions and the dangers of electrostatic discharge, refer to
standards such as ANSI/ESD S20.20-1999 and BS EN100015-4 1994 or go to the Electrostatic
Discharge Association website www.esda.org.
Tait recommends that you buy an anti-static bench kit from a reputable manufacturer. The
bench must have:
•A dissipative rubber bench mat
•A conductive wrist strap
•A connection to ground
Figure 1.1 Typical anti-static bench setup
Also follow strict anti-static measures when carrying, storing, or shipping a front cover.

required to reassemble the radio.
Disassembly and Reassembly
Warning! TP3000 radios and accessories are not user-serviceable, any unauthorized repair or
substitution of parts invalidates the product warranty. To have a TP3000 radio serviced, return it
to your regional Tait office.
The radio meets published specifications for protection against entry by water and dust. It
satisfies stringent regulatory requirements before it leaves the factory. To maintain this
characteristic level of water and dust resistance (its ‘IP ratings’) after reassembly, additional
tests are required.
Do not disassemble the radio until you have read “Pressure Testing” on page 8.
Disassembling the front cover
Follow the instructions provided for the proper removal and installation of each part.
1. Turn off the radio
2. Disconnect the radio from all accessories, all test equipment, and from the power supply.
Warning! LI-ION BATTERY! This radio uses a Lithium-ion battery, if the battery is
damaged or handled in an unsafe manner, it can cause personal injury and/or damage to
property. Read the important safety information in the Li-ion Battery Safety Information
document MPC-00006-xx, available from the Tait Support website.
3. If you need to remove a belt clip from the battery:

TN-2776h-AN www.taitradio.com Page 4 of 16
Use a Philips #2 screwdriver to remove the two screws that secure the belt clip to the back
panel.
4. Remove the battery by pressing the ‘PUSH’ button and raise the bottom of the battery
cleanly away from the radio.
5. Optional. Remove the antenna by turning it counter-clockwise. It is easier to remove the
front cover if the antenna is removed.
6. Inspect the chassis and the chassis labels. Make sure that the vent hole in the chassis is
clean and free of obstruction.

TN-2776h-AN www.taitradio.com Page 5 of 16
7. Use a Torx T8 driver to remove the six screws that secure the chassis to the front panel.
An O-ring accompanies each screw.
8. Flip the radio over and peel away the logo label to reveal the two screws hidden
underneath.
9. Use a Torx T8 driver to remove the two screws that secure the top of the front panel to the
chassis. An O-ring accompanies each screw.
10. Without forcing the inter-board FPC cable that attaches the front cover to the RF board
connector(s), lift the front cover from the chassis.
The RF board remains attached to the chassis.

TN-2776h-AN www.taitradio.com Page 6 of 16
11. Use a pair of tweezers to loosen, but not fully remove, the connector that locks the FPC
cable to the RF board. Work the connector loose by gently lifting first the one side of the
connector then the other.
When disconnecting an FPC cable from a board, do not apply excessive pressure to the
connector. If you do, the connector could break off the board and you will have to order
and install a new connector FPC.
Conductive Foam
If TP3300 radios built prior to Serial Number LC1850xxxx (2018 week 50) are being updated to
4-Key or 16-Key models three conductive foam pads may be fitted to the RF PCBoard if
desired.
Full details on the production improvements in fitting the conductive foam pads are listed in
TN-2838b-AN but this modification is not mandatory - it provides minor improvements to
transmit noise and to receive sensitivity when menu keys are pressed during a call.
Part Number T03-00354-BAAA contains 100 conductive foam pads. They are not fitted or
required on the 0-Key models and therefore if converting from a 0-Key to a 4-Key or 16-Key
model the three foam pads may be fitted as described below.
To fit the conductive foam pads:
Using a pair of tweezers place the foam pads, adhesive side down to the three grounding pads
shown below marked in red:

TN-2776h-AN www.taitradio.com Page 7 of 16
New conductive foam pads or replenishments can be ordered through the local Tait office.
The T03-00354-BAAA - Conductive Foam Kit contains 100 foam pads.
Conductive foam pads are also included in the T03-00354-AAAA - Sealing Spares Kit.
Notes:
•A 0-key TP3300 radio does not need conductive foam pads fitted
•Conductive foam pads are not included in any 4-Key or 16-Key front cover spare kit
•A TP3300 radio supplied ex-factory as 4-Key or 16-Key types will have conductive foam
pads already fitted in place from Serial Number LC1850xxxx (2018 week 50 or later).
•All TP3300 radios from Serial Number LC1902xxxx (2019 week 2or later) will have SMD
conductive foam pads fitted ex-factory.
No re-work is required during front cover change for these.
•When converting from a 4-Key or 16-Key to a 0-Key model, the three conductive foam pads
fitted by an end user (but not by the manufacturer) must be removed from the PCB before
re-attaching the front cover.
This is to avoid risk of short circuit if the pads become detached from PCB during future use
of the radio. Foam pads fitted by the manufacturer (LC1902xxxx or later) are of surface
mount type, so do not require removal.
•Replace any conductive foam pads where the adhesive is no longer effective, or when the
foam is damaged

Assembling the front cover
Driver
All screws used in the radio require a Torx T8 (1/4inch x 25 L8) driver.
Applying Torque
Secure each screw or nut to exactly 0.3 N•m (2.5 lbf.in). Do not under or over-torque.
1. Make sure the replacing front cover has a rubber gasket attached; Tait recommend
replacing the gasket if the front cover is reused. Follow the instructions provided to install
the new front cover.
Note:
oAll O-rings must be replaced in order to maintain the characteristic level of water and
dust resistance (its ‘IP ratings’) after reassembly.
oFor Series 1 radios (last serial number LC205130120), we recommended removing the
foam on the FPC between the front panel and the radio’s RF board, and use masking
tape to cover the metal plate:

TN-2776h-AN www.taitradio.com Page 9 of 16
2. Align the front cover to the chassis by using the edge on the right-hand-side as a guide; use
a pair of tweezers or your fingertip to press the speaker FPC connector socket, and the
display FPC connector socket, to their corresponding plugs on the RF board.
The plug clicks when it is fully connected.
3. Attach a new O-ring to each of the two screws and use the Torx T8 driver to fasten (torque
to 0.3 N•m or 2 lbf.in) the two screws that secure the top of the front panel to the RF board.
4. Attach a new log label to the slot.
5. Flip the radio over.

TN-2776h-AN www.taitradio.com Page 10 of 16
6. Attach a new O-ring to each of the six screws and use the Torx T8
driver to position the six screws in the back of the chassis.
7. Working in a star sequence (as shown right) to fasten the screws
that secure the chassis to the front cover.
Torque to 0.3 N•m (2.5 lbf.in).
8. Screw the antenna clockwise into the antenna ring, turning the
antenna clockwise. Make sure that the antenna is firmly seated.
For users in Canada only:
Applies to: TP3300-B1 or TP3350-B1 Series 2 radio (serial numbers LC214530001 or
later)
If the panel change includes a change of keypad e.g., from 0-Key to 4-Key, a new HVIN
label is required. Please contact your local Tait dealer for this additional label.

Pressure Testing
If IP ratings are important to the customer, pressure test the radio before opening the radio and
again after reassembling the radio. Complete tasks in the following order:
Pressure Test Equipment
If pressure testing is necessary, make sure that you are equipped to perform the testing or can
arrange to send the radio for testing at a regional Tait office.

TN-2776h-AN www.taitradio.com Page 11 of 16
The equipment required to validate the environment water sealing on a TP3000 radio is the
Pressure Tester shown below.
Operation
1. Select the 6 mm test nozzle.
2. Connect the test nozzle to the end of the pressure tester.
3. Validate the pressure tester against a flat surface:
a. Pump in some air.
b. The pressure should hold and not gradually decrease.
c. Check the release valve above the pump bulb, it should be closed.

TN-2776h-AN www.taitradio.com Page 12 of 16
4. Locate the pressure vent hole.
5. Firmly hold the pressure seal against the pressure vent hole on the radio.
6. Slowly pump until the pressure reaches slightly above 80mmHg.
7. The pressure may initially decrease a little as the speaker diaphragm and keypads re-settle.
8. The pressure should then remain constant.
Any decrease indicates a potential leak. Leaks may be caused in the test setup, or with actual
faults in the product re-assembly.
A leak is defined as a drop of more than 20mmHg in five seconds.
If the leaks persist, check the rubber gasket, all product screws and O-rings.

Programming the radio
Reattach the battery by fitting the top edge of the battery to the radio first, then the bottom edge.
Programming the radio model information
Notes:
•Series 1 radios with firmware v1.03.xx (or later) no longer requires the use of Model
Conversion Tool.
•Series 2 radios (i.e., serial numbers LC214530001 or later) no longer requires the use of
Model Conversion Tool.
1. Turn on the radio with the volume control.
2. Once the radio is on and startup is complete, connect the radio to a computer via the
programming cable (T03-00361-AAAA).
3. Launch Tait TP3000 Model Conversion Tool and click the Read button to read the radio
model information.
4. Select the appropriate Radio Model from the drop-down menu on the right, and click the

TN-2776h-AN www.taitradio.com Page 14 of 16
Programming the radio datafile
5. Launch Tait TP3000 programming application and click the ‘New’button.
6. Select the appropriate radio model and click the ‘OK’ button to create a default datafile.
Alternatively, click the ‘Open’button to load an existing radio data file with matching model
and frequency range settings.
7. Click the ‘Write’button to program the datafile to the radio.
Testing the radio
Test the radio, particularly after converting from a 0-Key to a 4-Key or 16-Key model; a radio
with a display and a keypad allows the user to access menu and functions such as Text
Message. Please refer to “Features of each keypad option” (Table 1) on page 15 for detail.
8. For a 4-Key model, check the Menu (left) and Selection (right) Key. If nothing happens
when you press those keys, the radio may have been programmed as a 0-Key radio.
9. For a 16-Key model, press keys [0 to 9] and the hash key [#]. If nothing happens when you
press those keys, the radio may have been programmed as a 0-Key or a 4-Key.

Functional variations between radio models
The TP3000 offers three keypad options. While the display and keypad selection does not
change the basic function of the radio, it will make it possible to use more channels, read, type,
and edit messages. Supported features or functions do vary between different radio models, the
same also applies after a TP3000 is replaced with a different type of front cover.
