WARNING! When using electric tools, basic safety precautions, including the following, should always be followed to
reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and personal injury.
Read all these instructions before operating this product and save these instructions.

• Keep work area clean
Cluttered areas and benches invite injuries.
• Consider work area environment
Do not expose power tools to rain. Do not use power
tools in damp or wet locations. Keep work area well
lit. Do not use power tools where there is risk to
cause fire or explosion.
• Keep children away
Do not let visitors touch the tool or extension cord. All
visitors should be kept away from area.
• Store idle tools
When not in use, tools should be stored in a dry, high
or locked up place, out of reach of children.
• Do not force the tool
It will do the job better more safely at the rate for
which it was intended.
• Use the right tool
Do not force small tools or attachments to do the job
of a heavy duty tool. Do not use tools for purposes
not intended.
• Dress properly
Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery, they can be
caught in moving parts. Rubber gloves and non-skid
footwear are recommended when working outdoors.
Wear protecting hair covering to contain long hair.
• Use safety glasses
Also use face or dust mask if the cutting operation is
dusty.
• Do not abuse the cord
Never carry the tool by the cord or yank it to discon-
nect it from the socket. Keep the cord away from
heat, oil and sharp edges.
• Do not overreach
Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
• Maintain tools with care
Keep cutting tools sharp and clean for better and
safer performance. Follow instructions for lubrication
and changing accessories. Inspect tool cord periodi-
cally and if damaged have it repaired by an author-
ized service facility. Inspect extension cords periodi-
cally and replace, if damaged. Keep handles dry,
clean and free from oil and grease.
• Disconnect tools
When not in use, before servicing and when chang-
ing accessories such as blades, bits and cutters.
• Avoid unintentional starting
Do not carry a plugged-in tool with a finger on the
switch. Ensure switch is off when plugging in.
• Use outdoor extension leads
When tool is used outdoors, use only extension cords
intended for outdoor use.
• Stay alert
Watch what you are doing. Use common sense. Do
not operate tool when you are tired.
• Check damaged parts
Before further use of the tool, a guard or other part
that is damaged should be carefully checked to
determine that it will operate properly and perform its
intended function. Check for alignment of moving
parts, free running of moving parts, breakage of
parts, mounting and any other conditions that may
affect its operation. A guard or other part that is dam-
aged should be properly repaired or replaced by an
authorized service centre unless otherwise indicated
in this instruction manual. Have defective switches
replaced by an authorized service facility. Do not use
the tool if the switch does not turn it on and off.

those recommended in this instruction manual, may

1. The line trimmer must not be used by anyone under
the age of 16.
2. Keep children, other people and pets away from the
trimmer; the grass which is cut and dispersed may
contain stones and debris.
3. Always wear suitable clothing when using the
trimmer to prevent head, hand or feet injuries. Use a
helmet, glasses (or visor), high boots (or sturdy
shoes and trousers) and work gloves.
4. Do not let other people or animals come within 5
metres of the trimmer when in use.
5. Always check that the trimmer is in good working
order .
6. Do not use the trimmer if the cutting device is not
secured properly or is damaged.
7. Before connecting the trimmer to the mains, make
sure that the rotating parts are not damaged and the
wire-holding spool is inserted correctly and securely.
8. Before starting the trimmer, make sure that the trim-
ming line is not touching stones or debris.
9. Do not start the trimmer when it is upside down or
when not in working position.
10. When the trimmer is in operation, keep the cutting
section away from all parts of the body.
11. Remain in a stable and secure position while
operating the trimmer.
12. Keep the area being cut free from wires, stones and
debris.
13. Do not cut against hard objects. This could cause
injury or damage the trimmer.
14. Use the edge of the guard to keep the trimmer away
from walls, surfaces, miscellaneous things and deli-
cate objects.
15. Never use the trimmer without the guard.
16. Be careful of the line-cutting blade, which can give
deep cuts.
17. Do not try to stop the trimming line with your hands.
Always let it come to a stop by itself.
18. Do not use the trimmer to cut grass which is not in
contact with the ground; for example do not cut grass
which is on walls or rocks etc.
19. Do not switch the trimmer on in enclosed or poorly
ventilated spaces or in the presence of inflammable
and/or explosive substances.
20. The user of the trimmer is responsible for any dam-
age sustained by third parties which has been
caused by the line trimmer within the working area.
21. Only cut during broad daylight or with corresponding
artificial light.
22. Do not cross roads or gravel paths with the trimmer
still running.
23. Turn the trimmer off and disconnect the plug when:
the trimmer is not being used, it is left unattended, it
is being examined because it is not working correct-
ly, the power supply cable is damaged, the spool is
being removed or changed or when the trimmer is
being moved from one place to another.
24. Do not move the trimmer by holding the electric
cable. Use the central handgrip.
25. When the trimmer is not in use, store it in a dry place
and out of the reach of children.
26. The trimmer should be used in compliance with these
instructions and only in a position which is vertical in
relation to the ground. Any other position is danger-
ous.
27. Check regularly that the screws are properly secured.
28. The mains voltage must correspond to the one
marked on the technical data plate. Do not use other
sources of power.
29. Never pass the grass trimmer over the extension
cable while the grass trimmer is working as this could
cut the cable. Make sure you always know where the
cable is.
30. Use the special cable holder for the connection of the
power cable.
31. Never use the trimmer when it is raining. Try to pre-
vent it from getting wet or being exposed to humidity.
Do not leave it outside overnight. Do not cut damp or
wet grass.
32. The power supply cable should be checked regularly
and before using it each time make sure the cable is
not damaged. If the cable is not in good condition, do
not use the trimmer. Take it to an authorized service
centre instead.
33. Only use an extension cable which is suitable for out-
door work. Keep it away from the cutting area, from
damp, wet or oily surfaces or with sharp edges and
away from heat and fuels.
34. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by
the manufacturer or its agent in order to avoid a haz-
ard.

• DEBRIS SHIELD
Shield fits snug on shaft. Some force may be required.
1. Seat shield (B) onto shaft bracket (C).
2. Insert washers (D) onto bolt.
3. Insert bolt (E) and nut (F), tighten securely.
•HANDLE ASSEMBLY
NOTE: The handle is attached to
the shaft but has been turned
under for ease of packing.
1. Loosen adjustment knob and
rotate handle to top of shaft.
Position handle 160mm -
220mm from the rear handle
(Fig. 2).
2. Tighten adjustment knob (A)
securely.
•DRIVE SHAFT
Installing the lower shaft
1. Remove the hanger from the lower shaft (A). Press the
release lever (B) while pushing the lower shaft into the
tool-link couping. (Fig. 3A)
2. Locate and lock the release lever into the primary hole
(C) in the shaft. (Fig. 3A).
3. Tighten the knob (D) securely clockwise before using
the unit. (Fig. 3B)

CAUTION: Make sure the release lever is
locked in the primary hole and knob is
securely tightened before operating this unit.
CAUTION: All attachments are designed to
be used in the primary hole unless otherwise
indicated in the specific attachment’s opera-
tor’s manual. If the incorrect hole is used, it
could result in injury, or damage to the unit.

•REPLACING TRIMMING LINE- STANDARD HEAD
1. Turn knob (A) COUNTERCLOCKWISE and remove
(Fig. 7A). User knob spanner supplied.
2. Remove spool (B) and spring (C) from spindle (D).
3. Remove any remaining trimming line (H).
4. Double a 14' (4.3m) length of .080" (2mm) trimming
line. Place the looped center in one of the slots of the
spool divider (Fig. 7B).
5. Wind cutter line clockwise as shown in illustration (Fig.
7C), keeping tension, with each half separated by the
spool divider. Wind to within 6" (15cm) of the ends.
6. Lock each end of line (H) into a slot (F) on opposite
sides of the spool (Fig. 7D).
7. Install the spring (C) over the spindle (D). Insert each
end of the line through an eyelet (G) in the housing
(E) (Fig. 7E).
8. Lower the spool into the housing (E) while feeding the
line through the eyelets (G). Ensure the spring seats
itself into the spool (Fig. 7E).
9. Once the spool is in place, apply pressure on the
spool compressing the spring. Pull each end of the
line (H) sharply to unlock the line from the slots (Fig.
7F).
10. Continue to apply pressure to the spool until the knob
can be threaded CLOCKWISE onto the spindle.
Tighten the knob securely by hand only (Fig. 7G).
11. Trim the excess line to approximately 5" (13cm).
•CLEANING
1. Regular cleaning and maintenance of your line trimmer
will ensure efficiency and prolong the life of your
machine.
2. After each cutting operation, take apart and clean out
the grass and soil from: the spool and its slot, the
whole trimmer and in particular the guard.
3. During operation, keep the air slots clean and free of
grass.
4. Only use a cloth soaked with hot water and a soft
brush to clean the line trimmer.
5. Do not spray or wet the appliance with water.
6. Do not use detergents or solvents as these could ruin
the trimmer. The parts in plastic can easily be dam-
aged by chemical agents.
SERVICING DOUBLE-INSULATED APPLIANCE
In this double-insulated appliance, two systems of insula-
tion are provided instead of grounding. No grounding
means is provided on a double-insulated appliance, nor
should a means for grounding be added to the appliance.
There are no owner serviceable parts inside. A double-
insulated appliance is marked with the words, “DOUBLE
INSULATION” or “DOUBLE INSULATED”. The symbol
(square within a square) may also be marked on the appli-
ance.
Any service must only be carried out by a qualified tech-
nician at an authorized service centre.
1. Place switch in “OFF” position and unplug the power
supply before the appliance is serviced, cleaned or
maintenance is performed.
2. Keep air intake clean and air vents free of debris to
avoid overheating the motor.
3. Clean with a damp sponge and mild soap. Do not
squirt with water, hose with water or other liquids.
4. No lubrication is necessary as the motor is equipped
with lifetime lubricated bearings.
5. If the unit does not operate, turn switch to “OFF” posi-
tion and disconnect extension from power supply
first, then from unit. Check power supply for blown
fuses or tripped circuit breakers. Do not attempt to
repair it yourself. There are no serviceable parts
inside.

• CONNECT THE CORD
1. Ensure the cord is NOT plugged into a receptacle
before this procedure.
2. Make a loop with 8 - 10 (20 - 25cm) of the end of the
extension cord.
3. Place the loop into the slots (A) under the motor hous-
ing and lock into place.
4. Connect the extension cord to the trimmer.
5. Plug the extension cord into a receptacle ONLY when
you are ready to operate the trimmer.
• TRIMMER OPERATION
1. TRIMMING / MOWING (Fig. 5A). Swing trimmer with a
sickle-like motion from side to side. Do not tilt the line-
head during the procedure. Test area to be trimmed for
proper cutting height. Keep linehead at same level for
even depth of cut.
2. CLOSER TRIMMING (Fig. 5B). Position trimmer
straight ahead with a slight tilt so bottom of linehead is
above ground level and string contact occurs at proper
cutting point. Always cut away from operator. Do not
pull trimmer in toward operator.
3. FENCE/FOUNDATION TRIMMING. Approach trim-
ming around chain link fences, picket fences, rock walls
and foundations slowly to cut close without whipping line
against the barrier. If the line comes in contact with rock,
brick walls, or foundations, it will break or fray. If line
snags fencing, it will snap off.
4. TRIMMING AROUND TREES. Trim around tree trunks
with a slow approach so line does not contact bark.
Walk around the tree trimming from left to right.
Approach grass or weeds with the tip of the line and tilt
linehead slightly forward.
5. SCALPING Scalping refers to removal of all vegetation
down to the ground. To do this, tilt the linehead to about
a 30 degree angle to the left. By adjusting the handle
you will have better control during this operation. Always
keep a distance of 100 feet (30 meters) from other peo-
ple and animals when scalping. Do not attempt this pro-
cedure if there is any chance flying debris could injure
operator, other people or cause damage to property.
6. SWEEPING - DO NOT SWEEP WITH TRIMMER (Fig.
5C)
• EDGING FUNCTION:
1. Loosen knob (B) by turning counter clockwise (Fig.
6A).
2. Push down release lever (A) and twist shaft to desired
position (Fig. 6A). Edging holes positioned at 90
degrees left, 90 degress right and 180 degrees.
3. Lock lower shaft in desired edging hole with release
lever.
4. Tighten knob (B) securely before use by turning clock-
wise.
• TOOL-LINK ATTACHMENTS:
1. Loosen knob (B) by turning counter clockwise (Fig.
6B).
2. Push down release lever (A) and remove lower shaft
(Fig. 6B).
3. Insert tool-link attachment shaft and lock in primary
hole (C) with release lever.
4. Tighten knob (B) securely before use by turning clock-
wise.
