10) Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched par-
ticularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where
they exit from the apparatus.

Maintenance
Wipe dirt from the top cover and other panel surfaces using a
soft cloth that has been slightly dampened with a diluted neutral
cleanser.
Do not wipe with chemical cleaning cloths, thinner or other chemi-
cal agents. Doing so could damage the surface.

VPlacement precautions
oPlace the unit in a stable location near the audio system that will
be used with it.
oDo not install this unit in a location that could become hot.
This includes places that are exposed to direct sunlight or near
a radiator, heater, stove or other heating equipment. Moreover,
do not place it on top of an amplifier or other equipment that
generates heat. Doing so could cause discoloration, deformation
or malfunction.
Also avoid locations that are subject to vibrations or exposed to
excessive dust, cold or moisture.
oWhen installing this unit, leave a little space (at least 3cm or 1")
between it and walls and other devices in order to allow good
heat dissipation.
If you put it in a rack, for example, leave at least 5cm (2") open
above and 10cm (4") open behind it. Failure to provide these
gaps could cause heat to build up inside and result in fire.
oDo not place CDs, CD-Rs, cassette tapes, other audio equipment
or other items that are susceptible to heat on top of the unit.
Doing so could damage these items.
oDo not put cloth on top of the unit or place the unit on top of
bedding or thick carpets. Doing so could cause the unit to over-
heat and damage it.
oDo not move the unit during use.
oThe voltage supplied to the unit should match the voltage
printed on the back of the unit. If you are in any doubt regarding
this matter, consult an electrician.
oDo not open the body of the unit as this might result in damage
to the circuitry or cause electric shock. If a foreign object should
get into the unit, contact your dealer.
oWhen removing the power plug from the wall outlet, always pull
directly on the plug; never yank on the cord.
Before use
Note about pinpoint feet
High-precision metal pinpoint feet are attached to the bottom plate
of this unit.
The pinpoint feet and their stands are loose, but the stands support
the unit when it is placed, effectively dispersing vibrations.

oThe included foot pads are intended to protect the surface
where the unit is placed. Apply them to the bottoms of the foot-
stands to avoid scratching the surface where the unit is placed.

A STANDBY/ON switch
Use to put the unit into standby mode or turn it on.
B Level meters
These show the output levels.
oThe level meters are illuminated when amplifier output is on.
C Status indicator
This shows the status of the unit.

A SPEAKER terminals
Speakers that have nominal impedances between 4Ω and 8Ω
are supported.
Use commercially-available speaker cables to connect
the speakers.
B Analog audio input (INPUTS) connectors
Use these to input stereo analog audio. Connect these con-
nectors to the audio output connectors of a preamplifier or
another device such as a DAC that has a preamplifier function.
oThis unit’s XLR connectors are 2: HOT.
Use commercially-available audio cables for connections.

XLR: XLR cables
OUTPUT MODE switch
This sets the output mode.
STEREO: stereo power amplifier (page9)
BI-AMP: mono bi-amplifier (page10)
VAlways disconnect speakers before changing
the output mode. Reconnect the speakers after
changing the mode.
Using with STEREO output mode
Connect this unit’s R input connector to the R output connec-
tor of the audio output device, and this unit’s L input connector
to the L output connector of the other device (page9).
Using with BI-AMP output mode
Connect this unit’s L connector to the L or R connector of the
audio output device. The R connector of this device is not used
(page10).
C 12V TRIGGER connectors
Use these to control power from an external source.
Do not connect anything to these connectors when not using
them (page11).
Use commercially-available mono mini plug cables for
connections.
D SOFTWARE maintenance port
This is used for maintenance. Do not connect anything to this
port unless instructed to do so by our service department.
E AUTO POWER SAVE switch
This unit has an automatic power saving function.
If the automatic power saving function is set to on, the unit will
automatically enter standby mode if there is no audio input for
about 30minutes.
F Power inlet (~IN)
Connect the supplied power cord here.
After all other connections are complete, connect the power
cord’s plug to a wall outlet.
VDo not use any power cord other than the one
included with this unit. Use of other power cords
could result in fire or electric shock.
VUnplug the cord from the outlet when not using
the unit for a long time.

Notes about speaker cables
oUse commercially-available speaker cables to connect the speakers.
oUse the shortest speaker cables possible. The longer the cable, the
greater the resistance value and the more that damping perfor-
mance is reduced. Moreover, length also increases inductance and
capacitance, degrading the sound quality of high frequencies.
oUse left and right speaker cables that have the same length.
VPrecautions when connecting speakers
oConnect the power plugs after all connections have been made.
oCarefully read the manuals of the devices that you are connect-
ing and follow their instructions when making connections.
oWhen the left and right grounds are shared in a sub woofer
with a built-in amplifier, for example, use might not be possible
depending on connection conditions.
ATTENTION
oThis unit supports speakers that have a nominal impedance of
4Ω – 8Ω. If speakers with lower impedance ratings are used, the
protection circuit could operate, causing sound output to stop.
In some cases, their use could even cause damage to this unit or
the speakers.
oThis unit’s red terminal is positive (¥) and its black terminal
is negative (^). Generally, the ¥wire of the speaker cable is
marked to distinguish it from the ^wire of the cable. Connect
the marked wire to the red ¥terminal and the unmarked wire
to the black ^terminal.
oIf the exposed end of a core wire in a speaker cable contacts
another cable or terminal, a short could occur.
oNever allow speaker cables to cause a short.
oTo prevent hum and noise, avoid bundling the cables together
with the AC power cord or other cables.
How to connect speakers
Using bare speaker wires
1 Remove about one centimeter (1/2") of insula-
tion from the ends of the speaker cables and
twist the core wires well.
2 Turn the terminal caps counterclockwise to
loosen them.
3 Insert the wires into the holes in the terminal
posts and turn the terminal caps clockwise to
securely connect them.
Connecting speakers
oConnect them so that the wire insulation is not touching the
terminal.
4 Conrm that the cables are fastened securely
by gently pulling them.
Using spade connectors
Insert the connectors between the caps and bases of the terminals.
Then, tighten the caps securely.
oWhen connecting speakers with spade connectors, they should
have inside diameters of at least 8mm.
Using banana plugs
Connection is also possible using commercially-available banana
plugs. First, connect the banana plugs to the speaker cables and
then connect the plugs to the terminals.
oKeep the caps tightened when in use.
oCarefully read the instructions for the banana plugs that you are
using.
ATTENTION
Notice about the European model
In accordance with European safety regulations, connecting
banana plugs to speaker terminals is not allowed on European
models.
The holes into which banana plugs could be inserted have been
covered with black caps. Connect speakers using bare wires or
spade connectors.
If a black cap should become separated from its terminal, return it
to its original position.

Connection example
VCAUTION
This unit does not have a volume adjustment function. Connect
this unit to a preamplifier or another device such as a DAC that has
a preamplifier function, and use that device to adjust the volume. If
you connect this unit to a device that cannot be used to adjust the
output volume, you will not be able to adjust the volume during
playback. Sound might be output from the speakers at a very loud
volume, which could harm hearing or damage equipment.
Connections
The use of this unit’s two built-in amplifier channels depends on the
OUTPUT MODE switch setting.
Connection examples for each mode are provided below.
VComplete all other connections before setting the STANDBY/ON switch to ON.
oCarefully read the manuals of the devices that you are connecting and follow their instructions when making connections.
oDo not bundle connecting cables with power cords. Doing so could cause noise.
oConnect all plugs completely.

Using BI-AMP output mode
This unit can be used as a mono bi-amplifier.
Set the OUTPUT MODE switches on the units for the L and R chan-
nels to BI-AMP.
In BI-AMP mode, use two of these units for stereo playback.
What is bi-amp connection?
This method operates amplifiers independently for low-frequency
and high-frequency speaker units.
NOTE
oSound input through the analog audio INPUTS L connectors will
be output from both the L and R SPEAKER terminals.
VATTENTION
oBi-amplification is not possible with speakers that do not have
both low frequency (LF) and high frequency (HF) connectors.
oWhen using bi-amp connections, remove speaker terminal links
and disconnect the connections between speaker ¥connec-
tors and between ^connectors.
oDo not connect anything to the unit’s analog audio INPUTS R
connectors.
Doing so could result in damage.

Synchronizing the power supply with
external devices (trigger function)
The power supply of this unit can be synchronized with a connected
preamp or other device that supports trigger functions.
Use commercially-available mono mini plug cables for connections.
ATTENTION
To use the trigger function, set this unit’s STANDBY/ON switch to
ON.
12V TRIGGER connectors
IN
Connect this to the trigger output connector of a preamp or other
device.
This will make the power operation of that preamp or other device
control this unit, putting it in standby and turning it on.
THRU (through output)
Signals input through the IN connector are output unchanged.
By connecting this to a device that supports trigger input (e.g. a
power amplifier or subwoofer), its power supply can also be syn-
chronized with the device connected to this unit’s IN connector.
When in BI-AMP mode, connect the THRU
and IN connectors as shown in the illustration.

Basic operation
5 Start playback on the source device, and adjust
the volume on the preamplier.
Adjust the preamplifier volume after the status indicator becomes
unlit.
Turning the power off
1 If a source device is playing, stop playback.
2 Minimize the volume of the preamplier.
3 Put the unit into standby mode.
4 Turn the preamplier o.
5 Turn the source device o.
In order to protect the speakers, turn the power for systems that this
unit is connected to on and off in the following order.
NOTE
This explanation assumes that a preamplifier is connected to this unit.

Turning the power on
1 Minimize the volume of the preamplier.
If using a device that cannot have its volume adjusted when it
is off, minimize the volume after turning it on.
2 Turn the source device on.
3 Turn the preamplier on.
4 Turn this unit on.
The status indicator will light and the mute function will be
activated. When the amplifier operation stabilizes, the indicator
will become unlit and the mute function will be deactivated.

Dimmer
You can change the brightness of the level meters.
The dimmer switch (¦) has three positions. The switch position sets
the brightness as follows.

Changing level meter operation
The METER gain switch has three positions. The switch position sets
the operation as follows.

oWhen level meter operation is +20dB, needle movement will be
greater than usual.

The INPUT selection switch has two positions. The switch position sets
the input as follows.

VDo not switch this when the unit is on.
Failure to do so could result in sudden loud noises
that could damage speakers and harm your hearing.
Automatic power saving function
This unit has an automatic power saving function.
If the automatic power saving function is set to on, the unit will
automatically enter standby mode if there is no audio input for
about 30minutes.

If you experience a problem with the unit, please take a moment
to review the following information before requesting service. If it
still does not operate correctly, contact the retailer where you pur-
chased the unit.
The unit does not turn on.
eCheck that the power cord is completely plugged into the
power outlet. If the outlet is switched, confirm that the switch
is in the ON position.
eConnect a different electrical device to the outlet to confirm
that it is supplying power.
Noise occurs.
ePlace the unit as far away as possible from TVs, microwave
ovens and other devices that have strong magnetism.
There is a humming noise.
eIf a connecting cable is near a power cord, fluorescent light or
similar cause of interference, increase the distance between
them as much as possible.
No sound is output.
eUse the preamplifier volume knob to adjust the volume
(page12).
eUse the preamplifier to select the source that you want to
hear (page12).
eReconfirm the connections with other equipment.
eCheck the INPUT selection switch setting.
The status indicator is blinking and no sound
is output.
eThe ¥and ^speaker cables might have shorted. Set the
STANDBY/ON switch to STANDBY, and check the speaker
connections.
Troubleshooting
Sound output stops suddenly and the status
indicator is blinking.
eThe protection circuit might have activated due to high tem-
perature, excessive load or another cause. Set the STANDBY/
ON switch to STANDBY, check the power and speaker connec-
tions, and wait several minutes before setting it to ON again.
If this unit is becoming hot, increase the amount of space
between it and walls and other devices to increase the dis-
sipation of heat.
Automatic power saving caused the unit to
enter standby.
eSet the STANDBY/ON switch to STANDBY once and then set it
to ON again.

1) Lisez ces instructions.

9) Ne neutralisez pas la fonction de sécurité de la fiche polarisée
ou de terre. Une fiche polarisée a deux broches, l’une plus large
que l’autre. Une fiche de terre a deux broches identiques et une
troisième broche pour la mise à la terre. La broche plus large ou
la troisième broche servent à votre sécurité. Si la fiche fournie
n’entre pas dans votre prise, consultez un électricien pour le
remplacement de la prise obsolète.
10) Évitez de marcher sur le cordon d’alimentation et de le pincer,
en particulier au niveau des fiches, des prises secteur, et du
point de sortie de l’appareil.
11) N’utilisez que des fixations/accessoires spécifiés par le fabricant.
12) Utilisez-le uniquement avec des chariots,
socles, trépieds, supports ou tables spécifiés
par le fabricant ou vendus avec l’appareil.
Si un chariot est utilisé, faites attention à ne
pas être blessé par un renversement lors
du déplacement de l’ensemble chariot/
appareil.
13) Débranchez cet appareil en cas d’orage ou de non utilisation
prolongée.
14) Confiez toute réparation à des techniciens de maintenance quali-
fiés. Une réparation est nécessaire si l’appareil a été endommagé
d’une quelconque façon, par exemple si le cordon ou la fiche
d’alimentation est endommagé, si du liquide a été renversé sur
l’appareil ou si des objets sont tombés dedans, si l’appareil a été
exposé à la pluie ou à l’humidité, s’il ne fonctionne pas normale-
ment, ou s’il est tombé.
oL’appareil tire un courant nominal de veille de la prise secteur
quand son interrupteur POWER ou STANDBY/ON n’est pas en
position ON.
oLa fiche secteur est utilisée comme dispositif de déconnexion et
doit donc toujours rester disponible.
oDes précautions doivent être prises en cas d’utilisation d’écouteurs
ou d’un casque avec le produit car une pression sonore excessive
(volume trop fort) dans les écouteurs ou dans le casque peut cau-
ser une perte auditive.

VPrécautions concernant l’emplacement
oPlacez l’unité sur une surface stable près du système audio qui
sera utilisé avec elle.
oN’installez pas cette unité dans un lieu qui pourrait chauffer.
Cela comprend les endroits exposés directement au soleil ou
près d’un radiateur, d’un chauffage, d’une cuisinière ou d’autres
appareils chauffants. En outre, ne la placez pas au-dessus d’un
amplificateur ou autre équipement dégageant de la chaleur. Cela
pourrait causer une décoloration, une déformation ou un mau-
vais fonctionnement.
Évitez aussi les endroits sujets aux vibrations ou exposés à une
poussière excessive, au froid et à l’humidité.
oQuand vous installez cette unité, laissez un peu d’espace (au
moins 3cm) entre elle et les murs et d’autres appareils afin de
permettre une bonne dissipation thermique.
Si vous la placez par exemple sur une étagère, laissez 5cm de libre
au-dessus d’elle et 10cm derrière. Ne pas laisser ces espaces peut
faire monter la température au risque d’entraîner un incendie.
oNe placez pas de CD, CD-R, cassettes, autres équipements audio
ou autres éléments sensibles à la chaleur sur l’unité. Cela pourrait
endommager ces articles.
oNe posez pas de tissu sur l’unité et ne placez pas celle-ci sur
du linge de maison ou sur une épaisse moquette. Cela pourrait
entraîner la surchauffe de l’unité et l’endommager.
oNe déplacez pas l’unité durant l’utilisation.
oLa tension fournie à l’unité doit correspondre à la tension impri-
mée à l’arrière de l’unité. Si vous avez des doutes à ce sujet,
consultez un électricien.
oN’ouvrez pas le boîtier de l’unité car cela peut endommager
les circuits ou causer un choc électrique. Si un objet étranger
pénètre dans l’unité, consultez votre revendeur.
oQuand vous débranchez le cordon d’alimentation de la prise sec-
teur, tirez toujours sur sa fiche, jamais sur le cordon.

Note sur les pieds de découplage
Des pieds à pointeau métallique de haute précision sont fixés à la
plaque inférieure de cette unité.
Les pieds à pointeau et leur plateau sont lâches, mais ils soutiennent
l’unité une fois celle-ci posée et dispersent efficacement les vibrations.

oLes patins de pied fournis sont destinés à protéger la surface sur
laquelle est placée l’unité. Fixez-les sous les pieds de protection
