• This appliance is not appropried for people (including children) with lake of physical and mental capacity,
or people without knowhouw.
• Pay attention to children not playing with the appliance.
• LIBERTY300 Solar is only used to heat tap water for domestic use within the mentioned temperature
limits.
The reheating of liquids other than drinking water is not permitted. The technical rules related to drinking
water are to be respected.
• The temperature of the air taken in by the device must be between -5°C and +35°C.When the temperature
is less than -5°C or greater than +35°C, the water is no longer heated by the heat pump but by the electrical
backup. The functional benefits of LIBERTY300 Solar diminish with proportion to the lowering of the
temperature of the air taken in by the device.
• It is NOT PERMITTED to:
- operate the device when the air taken in by the device contains solvents or explosive materials
- use air containing dirt, dust or aerosols
- connect the vapour evacuation vents to the ventilation system
• Installation of the device is NOT PERMITTED :
- outside
- in rooms exposed to frost
- in very humid rooms with high vapour emissions (e.g. bathrooms)
- in rooms with a risk of explosion due to gases, fumes or dust
• The use of this device is NOT PERMITTED if its water reservoir is empty
• ALL maintenance on LIBERTY300 Solar should be carried out while the device is off and by a qualified
person.
• This device must be installed with respect to the national electrical installation rules. Verify
that the installation is equipped with a correctly sized and connected ground cable.
This unit, marked CE, conforms to requirements essential to the directives :
- low voltage 2006/95/CEE (EN 60.335.1)
- electromagnetic compatibility 2004/108/CEE (EN 55014.1 / EN 55014.2).
• R134a is a greenhouse gas relevant to the Kyoto Protocol.All intervention on the refrigerating circuit must be
done by a qualified person with a category 1 certificate of aptitude.The degassing of the refrigerating fluid
into the atmosphere is not permitted, the recovery of the refrigerant is obligatory before any intervention
on the circuit.
- The cover of this device must never be used for carrying or handling and is
not designed for this purpose.
- Rinse piping before connecting the device to the domestic hydraulic system.
- This device only functions when filled with water. Never activate the device unless the
tank is completely full and properly primed.
- The magnesium anti-corrosion anode guaranties the protection of the tank. An
annual inspection of the anode must be carried out. The anode must be replaced, if
necessary, to maintain the anti-corrosion protection of the tank. (see § «Anti-corrosion
anode»)
- It is recommended to carry out an occasional inspection for scaling followed by a
cleaning if necessary using the access flange designed for this purpose.
- Always turn the device off before opening it. Take into account the fact that the fan
could continue rotating due to inertia.
- Avoid getting water on the control panel. Before cleaning, turn the device off.

1.3 - Storage and transport
1.3.1 - Notes
LIBERTY300 Solar must be stored and transported wrapped on its wooden palette, upright and emptied
of all water. Its low height of 1.80m with the palette (1.66m with stand) allows for easy upright transport in
a van or small truck.
1.3.2 - Vehicular transport
For short trips it can be transported horizontally lying on its back.
- Protect the device
- Never use the plastic cover for handling
- Never apply pressure to the plastic cover during transport

The allowed transport and storage temperatures for LIBERTY300 Solar are between -20°C and +60°C.

1.3.3 - Forklift transport
When transporting with a forklift, LIBERTY300 Solar must remain on the wooden palette.
Maintain a low lifting speed,LIBERTY300 Solar could easily lose its balance, it may be convenient to fasten
it to avoid tipping.
1.3.4 - Manual transport
LIBERTY300 Solar is delivered with a transportation
bag with 4 handles to facilitate handling in an upright
position by at least 2 people.
This bag is reusable after transport.

If the device must be laid on its back for handling, use the wooden palette as a base. A 2nd or 3rd person
could help with carrying using slings or straps (the latter could wrap around the reservoir housing and be
attached to the water input and output of LIBERTY300 Solar.)

The plastic cover must not be used for handling (it cannot handle a
great amount of strain).
If it is not possible to avoid inclining or laying the device down, wait at
least 1 hour after having installed LIBERTY300 Solar in its final location to
activate it.

2.1 - Description
• LIBERTY300 Solar is composed of a hot water tank, a solar heat exchanger, components of the
refrigerating circuit, the air circuit and of the water circuit, as well as all the control, settings and
monitoring panels designed for automatic functioning.
• the solar heat exchanger is located in the bottom part of the tank. This heat exchanger must be
connected to one or more solar collector (not included). A pump (not included) is necessary to
make the fluid circulate in the solar circuit.
• Solar components must be installed according to specifications and instructions of the manufacturer.
• LIBERTY300 Solar is equipped with an air to water heat pump,used as back up.When solar energy
is no more available, the heat pump starts and heats the water to the temperature setting with up
to 3 times less energy than electric heater.
• An additional electric heater (1500W) located in the middle of the tank will be used in case of air
temperature out of the operating range of the heat pump, and when solar is not running.
2 - DESCRIPTION
2.1.1 - Operation principle of the solar / heat pump combined system

2.1.3 - Energy source management
LIBERTY300 Solar has different temperature sensors in the tank and in the solar collector. When the
temperature difference between the collector and the tank increases, the pump starts and heat recovery
from the sun energy begins.
When the temperature gap between collector and water is too low, the pump stops, avoiding energy losses.
• LIBERTY300 Solar has a single controller for managing the different energy sources: solar and heat
pump.The heat pump starts when the temperature setting is not reached and when solar energy is
not available.
• A drop in the aspiration temperature provokes a diminishing in the performance of the heat pump
and a prolonging of the heating time for domestic hot water (see Fig.28 & 29 in the appendix). A
sensor measures the temperature of the aspired air directly in the upstream from the evaporator
of the heat pump. When this temperature descends below the limit of -5°C, the water is no longer
heated by the heat pump but by the electrical backup.
• The flexible isolated air sheathing (ND160, max total lenght 10m with flexible duct or ND160 max
total lenght 20m with rigid ducts) can be connected to the connection flanges on LIBERTY300
Solar. To insure an efficient functioning of the heat pump, it is of general convenience to avoid all
mixture between input and output air. One of the possible solutions is to use an elbow joint at the
opening of the output.

It is a closed pressure-less system in which refrigerant R134a serves as an energy carrier.
The evaporator is a refrigerating heat exchanger which will remove heat from the air. The humidity in the
air will subsequently be condensed to form water.
The condenser, wrapped around the tank,will heat the domestic hot water through the tank wall (avoiding
all contact with the water itself).

LIBERTY300 Solar is equipped with the following safety devices :
• High pressure switch
The high pressure switch protects the heat pump from the refrigerating circuit’s high pressure. In case
of high pressure, the switch will stop the heat pump. A restart of the pump will occur automatically as
soon as the refrigerating circuit’s pressure drops.
This safety device can activate if the water heater was activated without water in it.
• Electrical backup security limiter thermostat
The security limiter thermostat protects the hot water production system from all abnormal rise in
temperature.
A temperature overange (fixed to 88°C) will halt the electrical backup.
Restarting the electrical backup is not possible until the temperature of the hot water falls below 75°C
and the security limiter thermostat has been rearmed (by a qualified person).

3.1 Placement
3 - INSTALLATION
3.1.1 Air Intake
3.1.2 - Positioning
To be considered when choosing the final placement:
• LIBERTY300 Solar must not be installed outdoor
• LIBERTY300 Solar must be installed in a room outdoor from frost. Also, the temperature of the air taken
in must range between -5°C and 35°C. When the temperature is below -5°C or above 35°C, the water
is no longer heated by the heat pump, but by the electrical backup.
• It is recommended to ensure that the room from which the air is taken in or to which it is bloum be well
insulated from the neighbouring heated rooms.
• inlate air must be clear of any pollution, and dust.
• The air taken in must not originate from a heated room.
• The device must not be placed in a room which risks explosion due to gases, vapours or dust and
must not intake air from rooms with the same risks.
• To ensure the normal operation of LIBERTY300 Solar and facilitate servicing, it is convenient to respect the
minimum distance of 0,6m around the device.
• The floor must be able to support the weight of the device (weight of LIBERTY300 Solar when full = approx.
440kg)
• Position LIBERTY300 Solar and adjust the stands in such a way that it is level.A slight inclination to the right of
the device (1° max.) is acceptable,the evacuation of condensates being situated on the right of the device.

In cases of connection with ducts, it is necessary to set the ventilation
speed
to 2 (see section “PAR.06 – Ventilation speed”)
Unheated room larger than 20m²
• If the space between the top of the device and the ceiling is less than 0,6m, it is recommended to
install an elbow on the air outlet and to orient it toward the back or the sides.
• LIBERTY300 Solar allows for the recovery of the heat comming from the ground of an unheated room
partially below ground, such as a workshop of garage.
• LIBERTY300 Solar allows for the dehumidification and refreshing of rooms such as the laundry room
or cellar.

The heat pump can function on a wide range of air temperatures (from -5°C to 35°C). LIBERTY300 Solar can
remove heat from outdoor air.
Partial ducts (only one duct) must be avoided when using outdoor air during winter, this could lead to an
over-cooling of a room.
Installed with ducts, LIBERTY300 Solar must be installed in an unheated room (20m² min.) insulated from the
neighbouring heated rooms.

3.2.2.2 - On room ambiant air
3.2.2.3 - Dual configuration – outdoor and room ambiant air
Warning: If the unsulation if insufficient between the neighbouring rooms there is an increased risk of heat loss.
LIBERTY300 Solar allows for the dehumidification and refreshing of rooms such as the laundry room or cellar.
By installing a branched duct (not included) it is possible to take in air from outside during the summer when
the air is warmer and switch to internal air from an unheated room for the winter.
3.3 - Duct sizing
The connection of LIBERTY300 Solar must be done using insulated air ducts of a nominal diameter of 160mm.
The piping can be connected either on the intake side, the blouing side or both.
The total length of the pipes must not exceed :
- flexible duct : 10m total, suction and blowing
- rigid duct : 20m total suction and blowing

• It is mandatory to install a new pressure-relief valve (not included) set to 7 bars on the domestic cold water
supply of the device. Membrane type valve are recommended.
This pressure-relief valve must conform to the domestic standard.
• The pressure-relief valve must be installed as close as possible to the cold water inlet of the device and the
passage of water must never be hindered by any accessory (valve, pressure controller, etc...)
• The drain outlet of the pressure-relief valve must be sized following the requirements of construction standard
and must never be blocked. It must be connected by use of a funnel,allowing a minimum 20mm open space,
to a vertical draining pipe of a diameter equal to the piping connection of the device.
• The drain outlet of the pressure-relief valve must be installed in a frost-free place and pointing downward.
• If the pressure of the domestic cold water supply is higher than 5 bars, install a pressure reducer above the
pressure-relief valve at the beginning of the installation (a pressure of 4 to 5 bars is recommended).
• It is advised to install a shut-off valve above the pressure-relief valve.
• In cases of installations equipped with
- piping of a small diameter
- ceramic plate valves
it is necessary to install, as close as possible to the shut-off valves, a domestic expansion vessel adapted to
the installation.
• For the domestic hot water circuit, use the following materials:
- copper
- galvanised steel
- brass
In function of the materials used in the hot water circuit, incompatibilities could result in damage due
to corrosion.
In consequence, the connection of the device to the copper piping of the domestic hot water should
ALWAYS be carried out via a cast iron fitting, or steel, or with the help of dielectric connections (not
included) which will help to avoid any iron/copper galvanic bridge.
• Rinse the supply line piping before attaching it to the domestic installation of the device in order to avoid the
introduction of any particles, metallic or other.
• Respect the current standard in the country of use, notably those that concern domestic and pressure safety
conditions.
• The maximum temperature of the domestic hot water at delivering points should never surpass 50°C for the
toilet and 60°C for other uses. Install thermostatic mixing valves adequate enough to avoid any burn risks.
• In regions where the water contains high levels of limestone (TH > 20°F), it is recommended to treat water with
a softener. Softened water should conform to the criteria defined by the country’s norms.
• In all cases, softened or not, the latter should conform to the country’s hot water additional clause norms
concerning:
- chloride levels
- resistivity (between 2200 and 4500 ohm/cm)
- 12°F < TH < 30°F
