Display messages and symbols
The LCD screen icons
(PhoneYou are connected tothe telephone line –yourhandset is offhook.
88:88 Time Displays the time.
88/88 Day/MonthDisplays date and monthsettings.
IN # 188 Incomingcalls (IN) Shows total number ofincomingcall records.
NEW NEW(NewCalls) appears whenyou have newmessages and /or
caller ID records.
RPT RPT(Repeat) Displays whenthe caller has calledmore thanonce.
*MessageAppears when youhave receiveda voice mail message.
BatteryFlashes whenyouhave not fitted anybackup batteries or the
batterycharge is lowand theyneedtobe replaced.

2. Installation
1. Choose asuitable location for the base unit
nWhere the power adapter plugcanreach aneasilyaccessible 230-V switch mains
supplysocket, without stretching the mains supplycable.
nWhere the telephone line cable reaches your telephone line socket or extension
socket.
nWhere the unitis awayfromanywhere it couldget wet e.g. bathtuborsinketc.
nWhere the unitis situatednear a windowto get better radioreception.
2. Install the backupbatteries
This phone is equippedwitha memoryholdingsystemthat is poweredby4X 1.5V,
AAsize alkaline batteries (not included- customer-installed). Whenpower is
interrupted, or the AC mains cable is unplugged, the batteries will power the clock
andkeeptrackoftime andanyalarmsettings programmedintomemory.
When using batterypower, the LCD screen will not lightup; however, should wake
time occur duringthe power interruption, the alarmwill sound, providingbattery
power is adequate. Normal operation will resumewhenAC power is restored.
Install batteries as follows:
•Remove the batterycover
locatedonthe bottomofthe
base bypulling the “lockclip”
thenlifting offthe cover(use a
small screwdriver if
necessary).

•Insert the4X1.5VAAsize alkaline batteries payingattentiontothe polarity
orientation as shown inside the compartment.
•Replace the batterycover,whichshouldclick intoplace.
Important note –back up batteries
The “Tanzanite 2031”requires 4 x1.5V(AAsize) alkalinebatteries tobe
installedinthe batterycompartment,before use.
Warning: theunit willnot backup memorywithoutbatteries installed.
WARNINGS:
1. Make sure the unit is disconnectedfromthe telephone line wheninstalling
batteries.
2. Replace the batteries whenthe batterylowicon appears andflashes on
the LCD screen.
3. Ifthe batterypoweris allowedto totallydeplete, the telephone s data and
settings could be erased.
3. Plugthe coiledhandset cord intothe handset. Plugthe otherendintothe jack
on the backof the Base unit.
4. Place the handset in the Base unit.
5. Plugthe telephone line cordintothe
PHONELINE jackonthe back of the
Base unit. Plugthe otherendinto a
modularwall jack.
Always use the telephone line cord
supplied. Other telephone line cords
maynot work.

6. Plugthe powersupplycable intothe backof the Base unit. Plugthe otherend
intoan AC mainsoutlet.
The “Tanzanite 2031”Base unit must onlybe used withthe mains adapter supplied.
Usinganyother adapter maydamage the unit.
7. Set the RingerVolume switch on the side of Base unit to the desiredsetting,
HighorLow.
8. Set theTONE/PULSE switchon the sideof the handset to TONEfor touch-tone
service (normal), or PULSE forpulse dialling. If you don’tknowwhich type of
service youhave, checkwiththe phone company.
9. Installingthe Radio antennawire
Toget the best radioreception,the base unit shouldbe locatednearto a window.
Install antenna wire as follows:
1. Untie the radioantenna wire.
2. Fixthe end ofthe antenna wire near a window, usingadhesive tape.
3. Turn on the radiobypressingthe RADIO ON/OFF button.
4. Checkthe radioreceptionfor both AM and FM bands.
5. Ifthe radio reception is weak, relocate the endofthe antenna wire toanother
position until the best radioreception is obtained.

NOTES:
1. Install the “Tanzanite 2031”with at least 2.5cm(1inch)free space around the
front, backandsides toensure adequate ventilation. Do not cover or enclose
the “Tanzanite 2031”to avoida buildupofheat.
2. Donot put anythingon topofthe product, especiallymaterials containing
water or flammable liquids.
3. Run downbatteries shouldbe disposedofproperlyinan environmentally
friendlyway.

3.Telephone operation
Ringervolumecontrol switch
The Ringer volume switchlocated on the left side ofthe base unit allowsyou toset the
volume ofthe ringer.
Hi -Highvolume
Low-Lowvolume
TONE/PULSE dialling
Set theTONE/PULSE switch onthe side ofthe Handset to TONE if youhave
touch-tone service, orPULSE for pulse dialling.
Makingacall
1. Pickupthe handset andlistenfor a dial tone.
2. Dial the telephonenumberyouwishtocall.
The LCD screenshows the durationofthe call in
progress, 59:59 (minutes/seconds).
3. To endthe call, returnthe handset to the Base unit.
Note: the phonenumber being dialledwill not be displayed on theLCD screen.
Receiving acall
1. Whenthephone rings, pickupthe Handset.The LCD screen will displaythe
duration ofthe call inprogress, 59:59 (minutes/seconds).
2. Toend the call, returnthe Handset tothe Base unit.
Last NumberRedial (LNR)
1. Pickupthe Handset.
2. Press LNR/PAUSE buttonon the Handset toautomaticallydial the last number
you dialled manually (maximumof 32 digits).

Temporarytone
Use the temporarytone feature, if youare normallyusinga pulse
diallingservice, when youwishto access a customcalling service
that requires touch-tone dialling, for example, whenchoosingmenu
options,orenteringinformation for a bank or credit cardcompany.
1. Dial the numberforthe customcallingservice.
2. Press the * button afteryou have connectedtothe
service, toenable touch–tone dialling.
3. Whenyouhang up, the phone automaticallyreturns topulse dialling mode.
Inserting aPause in thediallingsequence
For some switchboard systems, an access number must be dialled(usually0or9) to get
another dial tone andanoutside line. Pressingthe LNR/PAUSE button, immediately
after the access number,will provide a pause ofabout 3.6 seconds tobe entered, whilst
the desirednumber can bedialledimmediately.
Press the LNR/PAUSE button toinsert a pause whendiallingorstoringLongDistance
Access Codes.
FLASH function
Press the RECALL buttoninsteadofusingthe hook switchtoactivate customer calling
services suchas Call Waiting, which are provided byyour phone Service Provider.
Storing aNumberinmemory
1. Pickupthe handset
2. Press the STORE button
3. Enteratelephone number(up to 16 digits). The memorycan not exceed16digits
duringprogrammingand ifexceeded, the memorywill not store the number.

6. Hang up the Handset
Note: Ifyoumake a mistake, hangup the Handset andrepeat the procedure for storing
a number fromthe beginning.
Speed dialling
Using the One Touchmemorylocations:
1. Pickupthe handset
2. Press the OneTouchmemorylocation button M1, M2or M3.
The number dials automatically.
Using theTwo Touchmemorylocations:
1. Pickupthe Handset.
2. Press the MEMORYbutton
3. Press 0~9to select the memory location

Deleting storednumbers frommemory
Todelete storednumbers fromthe OneTouchmemory locations:
1.Pickupthe handset.
2. Press the STORE button.
3. Press the LNR/PAUSE button.
4. Press the STORE button.
5. Press the One Touch memorylocation M1, M2 or M3 buttonwhere you storedthe
number.
Todelete stored numbers inthe TwoTouchmemorylocations;

1. Pickupthe Handset.
2. Press STORE button.
3. Press LNR/PAUSE button.
4. Press STORE button.
5.Press theTwoTouch memorylocation (0~9) button where you storedthe number.
Chain diallingfrommemory
Use this feature tomake calls whichrequire a sequence ofnumbers, basicallyyoudial
eachpart ofthe sequence frommemory. Example,

1. Pickupthe Handset.
2. Press the MEMORYbuttonandthenpress 7.
3. Whenyouhearthe access tone, press MEMORYbutton andthen press 8.
4. At the next access tone, press MEMORYbutton and thenpress 9.
Mute Function
1. Duringacall, press the MUTE buttononce onthe Base unit.
Whenthe microphone is muted, the Base unitNEWlight indicatorwill turn on.
The person at the other endofthecall cannothear you, but youcanhear his side.
2. Toget back to the call, press theMUTE button again. The Base unit NEWlight
indicatorwill turnoffand two-wayspeech is re-established.

4. CallerDisplay Operation
The unit receives and displays information transmittedbyyour phone Service Provider.
This information caninclude the phone number, date, andtime. The unitsaves up to50
calls, storedinMemory. Information is displayedafter the first ring.
VERY IMPORTANT:The CallerDisplay feature of this product requires a
subscriptiontothe CallerDisplay service fromyour phone Service Provider. In
RSAthis service is termedIdentiCall (call 10219tosubscribe).
Viewing CallingLine Identification (CLI) information duringIncomingCalls
For anincomingcall, the savedname ofthe caller will automaticallyappear.
OR
The caller s telephonenumber appears ifthe
caller s name is not currentlystored inmemory.
OR
UNAVAILABLE will appear whenCaller
Displayinformation is notavailable or the
originofthe call does notsupport the Caller
Displaysystem(includinginternational calls).
OR
DATA ERROR will appear ifthe Caller Display
informationwas receivedincorrectlyor only
part ofthedata was received.
OR
WITHHELD will appear ifthe caller s name and/or telephonenumber is blocked.

Viewing the CallerDisplay List
This phone automaticallyrecords all ofthe calls received, eveniftheywere not
answered. When the memoryis full, a newcall automaticallyreplaces the oldest call in
memory.The ‘NEW icon will appear inthe LCD screenfor calls.
Receivedcalls that havenotbeenreviewed - Toscroll through the caller s number
andname data in the Caller displayrecord list:
1. Press the DOWN button
The Caller Displayrecords will displayfromthe most recent to theoldest.
2. Press the UPbutton
The Caller Displayrecords will displayfromthe oldest to the newest.
3. Whenall of the recordshave beenviewed, END OF LIST appears onthe LCD
screen.
Returningacall fromthe CallerList:
1. Press UPor DOWN buttons tofindthe CallerDisplay record youwishtocall.
2. Press DIALbutton. The LCDscreen will display PICKUP PHONE.
3. Lift the Handset fromthe Base unit todial thedisplayedrecord.
4. Toend the call, returnthe Handset tothe Base unit.
Deleting callerdisplayrecords
When viewingthe Caller Displayinformation you candelete a single call or all ofthe
call records.
Deleting a single record
1. Press the UPor DOWNbuttons to findthe callerdisplayrecordyou wishto
delete.
2. Press the DELETE button.
The LCD screenwill prompt DELCALL?

3. Press the DELETE buttonagaintoconfirm.
The LCD screenwill displaythe next or previous call recordafter the data is deleted.
DeletingAll Records
1. Press UPor DOWN buttons toviewone CallerDisplayrecord.
2. Press and hold the DELETE buttonfor 3seconds.
The LCD screenwill prompt DELALLCALLS?
3. Press the DELETE buttonagaintoconfirm.
The total call count will returntozero(00) andthe LCD screenwill display TOTAL
000 NEW 000 instandbymode.
5. Functions setup
Note: At anytime during thefunctions programming,press the DELETE buttontostop
the current activityand return to standby mode.
Setting the Language
This adjustment changes the prompts to be displayed in3 languages namely; English
(default), French, andSpanish.
1. Press the SETbuttonuntil SETLANGUAGE is displayed.
2. Press UPor DOWN buttons toselect the desiredlanguage setting.
3. Press SETbuttontoconfirm.
4. Continue withyour programming or press the DELETEbutton toreturntothe
standbymode.
Setting the Contrast of the LCDdisplay
This function allowsyou toadjust the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screencontrast for
comfortable viewing.

1. Press the SETbuttontwice.
The LCD screenwill displayCONTRAST.
2. Press UPor DOWN buttons toselect yourdesiredsetting (1~6). (Default is 4)
3. Press the SETbuttontoconfirm.
4. Continue withyour programming or press the DELETEbutton toreturntothe
standby mode.
OR
The LCD screencanalsobe adjustedusingthe CONTRAST button onthe Base unit.
Press the CONTRASTbutton repeatedlyto select the desiredcontrast foryour
LCD screen.
Setting the TimeandDate
The phone Service Provider sends the time anddate with the Caller Display
information.
The unit will automaticallyset the time and date whenthe first call containing Caller
Displayinformation is received(if it has not alreadybeen set).
1. Press the SETbutton three times. The LCD screenwill displaySET
TIME/DATE and the ‘HOUR iconwill be blinking.
2. Press UPorDOWN buttons to set the current hour time (1~12AM/PM).
3. Press the SETbutton toconfirm. The ‘MINUTE icon will be blinking.
4. Press UPorDOWN buttons to set the current minute time (1~60).
5. Press the SETbutton toconfirm. The ‘DATE iconwill be blinking.
6. Press UPorDOWN buttons to set the current date (1~31).
7. Press the SETbutton toconfirm. The ‘MONTH icon will be blinking.
8. Press UPorDOWN buttons toset the current month(1~12).
9. Press the SETbuttontoconfirm. The ‘YEAR icon will be blinking.

10. Press UPorDOWN button to set the current year.
11. Press SET buttontoconfirmthe time and date setting.
Setting the LCD screen Backlight ON orOFF
1. Press the SETbuttonrepeatedlyuntil the LCD screendisplays BACKLIGHT ON
(default).
2. Press UPor DOWN buttonto select ON or OFF.
Withthe BACKLIGHTON, the LCD backlight is permanentlyilluminated.
Withthe BACKLIGHTOFF,the LCD backlight will turnonafter pressing a button. It
will automaticallyturnOFF 10seconds after receivinga call, or period ofinactivity.
3. Press the SETbuttontoconfirm.
6.AlarmFunction
Setting theAlarmTime - The telephone canprogramtwoAlarm clocksettings.
1. Press the SETbutton.
2. Press the ALARM1orALARM2 button. The ‘HOUR icon will be blinking.
3. Press UPor DOWN buttons toset thedesired hour.
4. Press the SETbuttontoconfirm. The ‘MINUTE icon will beblinking.
5. Press the SETbuttontoconfirm.
Important: Whenanalarmhas beenset, the usermust reviewthealarmstatus by
pressing theALARM X (1or2)buttontoverify that the Alarmfunctionhas been
set correctly.
ReviewingtheAlarmsettings
Press theALARMX(1or 2) button to reviewthe status.
Press theALARMX(1or 2) button againtochange the modeof alarm(Music,

Buzzer, or Off).
When choosingthe music mode, the LCD screen will displayALARM X MUSIC and
the ‘music X¯iconwill turnon. Allowthe alarmmode programmingtotime out.
When choosingthe buzzer mode, the LCD screen will display ALARM XBUZZER and
the “buzzer X%iconwill turnon.Allowthe alarmmode programmingto time out.
When choosingthe offmode, the LCD screen will display ALARM X OFF and both
music and buzzer icons are turnedoff.Allowthe alarmmode programmingto time
out.
TurningOff the Alarms
Press theALARMOFFbuttontoturnoff analarmafterithad comeon.
Note: The alarm setting is retainedandwill activate on subsequentdays.
Using the Snooze Timer
After the Alarmhas sounded,press the SNOOZE buttontosilence the alarmfor 9
minutes (default setting). Youcanuse the SNOOZEfeature repeatedly.The alarmwill
remain on for10 minutes ifthe SNOOZE buttonis not pressed.
Adjusting the Snooze timer
1. Press the SETbutton.
2. Press the SNOOZE button.
The LCD screen will displaySNOOZE TIME andthe ‘MINUTE icon will be
blinking.
3. Press the UP/CDS or DOWNbuttons tosetthe desired snooze time (1~59
minutes).
4. Press the SETbutton toconfirm.
