WARNING
Read this instruction manual carefully before operating this machine. Make sure that you are familiar
with the controls and properly operate the machine. Following these instructions can reduce the risk
of fire, electric shock and personal injury.
IF NOT USED PROPERLY THIS MACHINE CAN BE DANGEROUS!
This machine can cause serious injury to the operator and others, the warning and safety instructions
must be followed to ensure reasonable safety and efficiency in using this product. The operator is
responsible for following the warning and safety instructions in this manual and on the machine.
Never use the product unless the grass box or guards are correctly positioned.
DESIGNED FOR DOMESTIC USE ONLY.
The Scarifier & Rake is designed for use in private gardens, whose annual use does not generally
exceed 50 hours and that are primarily used for tending GRASS OR LAWN AREAS, but not in public
facilities, parks or sports grounds and not for agricultural or forestry use.
Compliance with this manual supplied by the manufacturer is a prerequisite for the proper usage of
the machine. The operating manual contains servicing and maintenance instructions as well as
directions for use.
TRAINING
Read the instructions carefully: Be familiar with the controls and the proper use of the equipment.
Never allow children or people unfamiliar with these instructions to use the product. Local
regulations can restrict the age of the operator.
Never operate while people, especially children, or pets are nearby.
Keep in mind that the operator or user is responsible for accidents or hazards involving the machine
that occur to other people or their property.

GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
It is important that you read and understand the owner’s manual and labels affixed to the
machine. Learn its application and limitations as well as the specific potential hazards. Retain
these instructions for future reference. The operator is responsible for following the warnings &
instructions in this manual and on the product.

DANGER
Beware of sharp blades, which will
continue to rotate after the motor is
switched off. The blades will continue
to rotate, even after the plug has been
removed from the power supply.
Wear gloves to protect your hands
Wear foot protection
Check your machine before turning it
on. Keep guards in place and in
working order. Frequently check to
see that foreign objects are removed
from the tool area before turning it
on. Replace damaged, missing or
failed parts before using it.
Whenever the machine is in use,
safety glasses must be worn to
safeguard against flying objects.
Hearing protection must also be used
to protect the operators hearing.
Face masks are also recommended to
avoid inhalation of debris.
Beware of sharp tines. Tines continue
to rotate after the motor is switched

STAY ALERT
Do not operate the machine while under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or any medication that
could affect your ability to use it properly. Do not use this machine when you are tired or distracted
from the job at hand. Be aware of what you are doing at all times. Use common sense.
AVOID DANGEROUS CONDITIONS
Make sure there is adequate surrounding workspace. Cluttered areas invite injuries.
Keep your work area clean with sufficient light. Keep the area around the machine clear of
obstructions, grease, oil, rubbish and other debris which could cause persons to fall onto moving
parts.
INSPECT YOUR MACHINE
Check all bolts, nuts, and screws for tightness before each use, especially those securing guards and
drive mechanisms. Vibration during use, may cause these to loosen.
Form a habit of checking to see that all other tools/equipment are removed from the working area
before turning it on.
Replace damaged, missing or failed parts before using it. Warning labels carry important
information. Replace any missing or damaged warning labels.
DRESS PROPERLY
Do not wear loose clothing, gloves, scarfs, neckties or jewellrey (rings, wrist watches), which can be
caught in moving parts. Protective electrically non-conductive gloves and non-skid heavy duty
footwear are highly recommended when working. Wear a face or dust mask if the operation is dusty.
Always wear safety glasses/goggles and/or face shields. Everyday eyeglasses have only impact
resistant lenses; they are not safety glasses/goggles. Wear protective hair covering to contain long
hair, preventing it from getting caught in machinery.
AVOID ELECTRICAL SHOCK
Check that the electric circuit is adequately protected and that it corresponds with the power,
voltage and frequency of the motor. Check that there is a ground connection, and a regulation
differential switch further up the circuit. Ground the machine. Prevent body contact with grounded
surfaces: pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerator enclosures. Never open the pushbutton box on
the motor. Should this be necessary, contact a qualified electrician. Make sure your fingers do not
touch the plug’s metal prongs when plugging or unplugging the machine.
KEEP BYSTANDERS AND CHILDREN AWAY
Keep unauthorised persons a minimum distance of 10 metres away from the machine. If
approached, stop the machine immediately. Do not allow children to handle, climb on or in the
machine.
DO NOT OVERREACH
Keep proper footing and balance at all times when using the machine. Never stand on the
machine. Serious injury could occur if the machine is tipped or if the moving parts are
unintentionally contacted. Do not store anything above or near the machine, where anyone might
stand on the machine to reach them.
AVOID INJURY FROM UNEXPECTED ACCIDENT
Keep hands & feet out of the way of all moving parts. Do not place any part of your body or any
tool e.g. in the machine during operation.
DO NOT FORCE TOOL
Always work within the rated capacity. Do not use the machine for a purpose for which it was not
intended.
NEVER LEAVE MACHINE RUNNING UNATTENDED
Do not leave the machine unattended until it has come to a complete stop.
MAINTAIN YOUR MACHINE WITH CARE
Clean the machine immediately after use. Keep the machine clean to ensure it operates to its full &
safest performance. When maintaining this machine, only the manufacturer’s original replacement
parts should be used. The use of non-original manufacturer parts may invalidate your warranty.

PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT
Take left over materials to an authorised collection point or follow the stipulations in the country
where the machine is used. Do not discharge into drains, soil or water.
STORE IDLE EQUIPMENT
When not in use, the machine should be stored in a dry location. Keep the machine away from
children and others not qualified to use it.
This symbol on the product or on its packaging indicates that this product may not be treated as
household waste. Instead it shall be handed over to the applicable collection point for the recycling
of electrical and electronic equipment.
For more detailed information about recycling of this product, please contact your local council
office, your household waste disposal service or shop where you purchased the product.
PREPARATION
 Always wear appropriate footwear, such as work boots, and trousers when operating the
machine. Do not operate the equipment when barefoot or wearing open sandals. Always wear
safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields when operating the product.
 Thoroughly inspect the area where the equipment is to be used and remove all objects which can
be thrown by the machine.
 Before using, always visually inspect to see that the blades, blade bolts and cutter assembly are
not worn or damaged. Replace worn or damaged blades and bolts in sets to preserve balance.
 Only use accessories approved by the manufacturer.
 Do not operate the machine while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
 Never operate the machine in wet grass. This could cause you to slip while using.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
 Power plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter
plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce
risk of electric shock.
 Avoid unintentional starting. Always check that the switch is in Off position before plugging in the
product to the power supply. Do not carry a plugged in product with your finger on the switch.
 Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and
refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
 Do not expose the product to rain or wet conditions.
 Water entering an appliance will increase the risk of electric shock.

 Electrical power should be supplied via a residual current device (RCD) with a tripping current of
not more than 30 mA.
 Before use, check the supply and extension cord for signs of damage or aging. If the cord becomes
damaged during use, disconnect the cord from the supply immediately. Do not touch the cord
before disconnecting the supply. Do not use the product if the cord is damaged or worn.
 If you need to use an extension cable, ensure it is suitable for outdoor use and has a current
capacity rating, sufficient to supply your product. Check it before every use for damage, always
uncoil it completely, during use because coiled cables can overheat. Damaged extension cables
should not be repaired; they should be replaced with an equivalent type.
 Make sure the power cable is positioned so that it cannot be damaged by the cutting means and
will not be stepped on, tripped over or otherwise subjected to damage or stress.
 Never pick up or carry the product by the electric cable.
 Never pull by the power cord to disconnect from the power supply.
 Keep the power cord away from heat, oil and sharp edges.
 Make sure voltage is correct for your product. A nameplate on the product indicates the product’s
voltage. Never connect the product to an AC voltage that differs from this voltage.
 Always ensure the cord from the handlebar to the mower body is never trapped, pinched or
otherwise damaged during assembly or handle folding. Never apply power to the mower if this
cable is damaged. Return to authorised service centre for professional repair.
OPERATION
Only operate the mower in daylight or in good artificial light.
Avoid operating the equipment in wet grass.
Always be sure of your footing on slopes. Exercise extreme caution when changing direction on
slopes. Do not mow excessively steep slopes, which exceed 15°. For wheeled rotary machines,
mow across the face of slopes, never up and down.
Never run while using the mower, always walk.
Do not pull the machine backwards unless absolutely necessary. Use extreme caution when
reversing or pulling the product towards you.
Stop the blade(s) if the machine must be tilted for transportation when crossing surfaces other
than grass (such as gravel drives, walks, or roads) & when transporting the product to & from the
area to be machined. Never pick up or carry a scarifier/rake while the electric motor is running.
Never operate the product with defective guards, or without safety devices, for example
deflectors and/or grass catchers, in place.
Do not put hands or feet near or under rotating parts. Keep clear of the discharge opening at all
times.
Stop the motor and disconnect the electrical plug from the power source:
before clearing blockages or unclogging the chute;
before checking, cleaning or working on the machine;
after striking a foreign object inspect the product for damage and make repairs before restarting
and operating,
if scarifier/rake starts to vibrate abnormally (check immediately).
Shut the motor off and wait until the motor and the blade come to a complete stop before
removing the grass catcher.
Watch for holes, ruts, or bumps. Tall grass can hide obstacles.
Do not mow near drop-offs, ditches or embankments. The operator could lose footing or
balance.
Be alert and turn the machine off if children enter the area.
Never tamper with safety devices. Check their proper operation regularly.
Never attempt to make wheel height adjustments while the motor is running.

GENERAL MOWING TIPS
When cutting long grass, reduce walking speed to allow for more effective cutting and a proper
discharge of the clippings. It is recommended that you cut longer grass in stages. Start at a
higher cutting height and go over the same area a second time with a lower cutting height.
Do not cut wet grass; it will stick to the underside of the deck and prevent proper collection or
discharge of grass clippings.
New or thick grass may require a higher cutting height.
Empty the grass box regularly, the discharge chute will become blocked with grass cuttings.
The mower is designed to operate and cut most effectively when moving forwards.
OVERLOAD PROTECTION
The product has an overload protection device. When overloading is detected, the product will
automatically switch off. If the overload protector is actuated, the motor must be allowed to
cool down for 5 to 10 minutes.
Turn off the power and remove the plug from the supply. The blades are sharp, wear heavy duty
gloves before touching. Make sure the blade can rotate freely and is not jammed or tight.
When the motor is cool, connect the plug to the power supply, turn the power on. Press the
Safety Button & then the Trigger to start the product. If the product will still not start, return it
to an authorised service centre for repair.
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
 Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to be sure the equipment is in safe working condition.
 Replace worn or damaged parts for safety.
 Keep the machine free of grass, leaves, or other debris build-up.
 Allow the machine to cool before storing.
 Grass catcher components are subject to wear, damage, & deterioration, which could expose
moving parts or allow objects to be thrown. Frequently check & replace them with the
manufacturer’s recommended parts, when necessary.
 Mower blades are sharp and can be dangerous. Wrap the blade(s) or wear gloves, and use extra
caution when servicing them.
INTENDED USE
This scarifier & rake is designated with a rated input of 1300 Watts. Depending on the fitted
cutting device, this product is intended for either scarifying and removing thatch from lawns or for
raking in domestic and hobby gardens.
This product is not to be used in wet weather conditions and may not be used on overly dry, wet
or unusually high grass, e. g. pasture grass or for shredding leaves.
This product is intended for private domestic use only, not for any commercial trade use. It must
not be used for any purposes other than those described.
GENERAL SCARIFYING TIPS
When used as a scarifier, this product works by scratching through & between the grass with
specially adapted prongs to collect & remove any unwanted thatch from the lawn, whilst leaving
the grass intact. At the same time the product scarifies the ground resulting in a better airing.
Consider the weather when scarifying. Scarify the lawn with an increased depth setting during
spring time between April & May as the lawn is better able to recover during this season. During a
wet summer, scarify again in late summer with a decreased depth setting. Do not scarify during
periods of hot weather. During a dry rainless summer, do not scarify a second time in autumn.
GENERAL RAKING TIPS
When used as a rake, the fine needles will scratch the surface of the lawn while simultaneously
picking light debris for better oxygen absorption, airing and draining.
In order that a healthy lawn can develop in the spring, it is necessary for greater amounts of air
to penetrate the area around the roots of the grass. We recommend that you aerate the lawn
every 4 - 6 weeks depending on the state of your lawn.

SET UP & PREPARATION
FOR OPERATION
Follow the operating instructions step-by-
step and use the pictures provided as a visual
guide to easily assemble the machine.
Please ensure that you have all the below
necessary parts, before commencing with
the assembly. In the unlikely event that you
are missing a component, please do contact

HANDLE BAR ASSEMBLY
a). Align the lower handle bars (6) with the
supports (8). Make sure the holes in the lower
handle bars correspond with those in the
supports (8) and secure the bars with one
screw (7), each to the support (8).
Align the middle handle bars (5) to the lower
ones (6). Make sure the holes in the handle
bars (5, 6) correspond and secure them with
one mounting set (4) on each side.
Slide the cord strain relief (2) onto the upper
handle bar (3).
Align the upper handle bar (3) with the middle
handle bar (5) and secure them with one
mounting set (4) on each side.
Fix the cord with the cord clips (16) to the
handle bar.

GRASS COLLECTOR ASSEMBLY
WARNING!
Do not attempt to use the product without
the grass catcher attached as objects may be
thrown.
WARNING!
The product must be switched off and the
cutting device must have stopped rotating
before you attach or empty the grass
catcher!
Never use the scarifier without the
grass catcher bag securely fitted.
NOTE: A full grass catcher will reduce the
performance of this product. The grass
catcher should be emptied when it is half full.
Always attach the grass catcher (15) to the
product before operation.
Open the deflector guard (14), hold it in
position and align the hooks on the grass
catcher (15) with the hinges on the back of
machine.
Empty the grass catcher (15) frequently
during use. Do not wait until it is completely
full. We recommend emptying it when it is
half full.
Lift the deflector guard (14) and pull the grass
catcher (15) off the hinges to remove it.
Empty the collected material onto a compost
heap and reattach it onto the product.
CABLE ROUTING
Always route the electric mains cable away
from the work area to prevent it from coming
into contact with the cutting device. Plan your
route before starting work. Start your work at
the nearest point to the electrical outlet, and
work away from it. This will keep the cable
away from the cutting device and avoid it
being accidentally cut. Keep the cable over
your shoulder for added safety.
For cord strain relief of the cable, form a loop
at the end of the main cable and bring this
through the opening in the handle and insert
it into the cord strain relief.
CUTTING DEPTH ADJUSTMENT
WARNING!
Always switch the product off and remove
the mains plug from the power supply before
making any adjustments.
Adjust the depth according to the needs of
your lawn. The most suitable depth depends
on the kind of lawn and the actual height of
the grass.
Please note when working on an unkempt
lawn with thick thatch you should rake or
scarify the lawn at a higher setting before
going over it again at a lower setting, so as not
to put too much strain on the motor.
Push the depth adjustment lever (10) towards
the wheel (11), then move it forward or
backward to adjust the cutting depth. (See
Fig. 8a).
Adjust the lever (10) to one out of the five
stages. Read the adjusted depth from the
scale. (See image and the table below).

POWER CONNECTION
WARNING!
Before operating the scarifier, ensure that
the fastening elements are undamaged.
To reduce the risk of injuries, always switch
off the motor and pull out the mains plug
before working on the machine.
The product can be connected to any socket
(with 230-240V alternating current). We
recommend to always use the appliance via a
Residual Current Device (RCD) with a tripping
current of max. 30mA.
1. Mains leads on scarifiers are particularly
susceptible to insulation damage. The
causes of this include the following:
The cable may be cut if the scarifier
passes over it.
Damage through crushing, if the mains
lead becomes stuck under doors or
windows.
Cracks caused by ageing of the insulation
sheath.
Kinks caused by incorrect fastening of the
mains lead.
2. Such damaged mains lead should not be
used under any circumstances as they
may cause fatal injuries due to a damaged
insulation sheath.
3. Always check the plug and cable and
make sure they are in good condition
before operation.
STARTING
The product is fitted with a lock-off button
feature. To start the product, simply press the
lock-off button (18) then fully press and hold
the start/stop level (19). The lock-off button
can now be released. (See Fig.9)
NOTE: It is not necessary to maintain pressure
on the lock-off button once the start/stop
level is squeezed and the motor is running.
The lock-off button is a safety device to avoid
accidental start-up of the device.
STOPPING
The product will automatically stop once the
start/stop lever is released. The lock-off
button must be pressed and the start/stop
lever squeezed to restart the motor.
OVERLOAD PROTECTION
The overload protection will be activated in
the following circumstances:
1. A buildup of scarified material around the
cutting device.
2. If the material scarified is too large and
causes the motor to work beyond its
capacity.
3. Where there is too much resistance
against the cutting device.
When the circuit breaker has been activated
switch off the product and disconnect from
the power supply. Let the product cool down
and eliminate the cause of the overload
before using the product again.

GENERAL OPERATION
WARNING!
In some countries regulations define at what
time of the day and on what day’s machines
can be used and what restrictions apply!
WARNING!
If the product strikes a foreign object stop
the motor! Switch the product off,
disconnect it from the power supply and let
it cool down. Inspect the product thoroughly
for damage! Have any damage repaired
before restarting!
WARNING!
If the machine vibrates unusually during
operation is may indicate that it is damaged!
The product should be inspected and
repaired immediately!
Check the product, its power cord and
plug as well as accessories for damage
before each use. Do not use the product if
it is damaged or shows wear.
Double check that accessories are
properly connected.
Push the product forward by its handle.
Keep the handle dry to ensure safe
support.
Ensure that the air vents are always
unobstructed and clear. Clean them if
necessary with a soft brush. Blocked air
vents may lead to overheating and
damage the product.
Switch the product off immediately if you
are disturbed while working by other
people entering the working area. Always
let the product come to complete stop
before releasing the handles.
Do not overwork yourself. Take regular
breaks to ensure you can concentrate on
the work and have full control over the
product.
Mow the lawn before working and
fertilise afterwards.
Make sure that the lawn is clear of stones,
sticks, wire or other objects that could
damage the product or its motor.
Select the suitable working depth for the
actual grass height.
Do not work with this product on a wet
lawn because the grass may stick to the
underside of the product, preventing the
proper discharge of collected material,
and could also cause you to slip and fall.
Slowly push the product forward. Move
the product at an appropriate speed. Do
not move it too fast or the discharge
opening may get blocked and the engine
may overload.
Work in slight overlapping rows. The most
effective pattern for scarifying/raking
lawns is straight lines along one of the
sides. This will keep the rows even and
ensures that all the lawn is scarified/raked
without missing any spots. (See Fig. 10).
Circle around flower beds. When reaching
a flower bed in the middle of the lawn,
make a row or two around the
circumference of the bed.
Pay special attention when changing
direction.
MAINTENANCE &
STORAGE
WARNING!
Before carrying out any repairs or servicing
work, you must ensure that the product
has been disconnected from the power
supply. Repairs and maintenance work other
than those described within this instruction
manual may be performed only by an
authorised service agent.
SERVICE & STORAGE
To ensure long and reliable service, carry out
the following maintenance regularly. Servicing
and cleaning work on the product and the
removal of the guards may only be carried out
after the motor has been switched off and the
plug disconnected from the power supply.
Regularly check for obvious defects such
as loose, dislodged or damaged chain and
guide bar, loose fixings and worn or
damaged components.

Check that covers and guards are
undamaged and correctly fitted. Carry out
necessary maintenance or repairs before
using the product.
If the cutting device should happen to fail
despite the care taken in manufacturing
and testing, repair should be carried out
by an authorised specialist.
Do not clean the product while it is
running.
Ensure that all the fastening elements
(screws, nuts, etc.) are tight at all times,
so that you can safely work with the
product.
Check the product frequently for signs of
wear. Replace worn or damaged parts.
Store your product in a dry place. To
ensure a long service life all screw parts
should be cleaned and then oiled.
Clean the product with a brush or cloth.
Do not use any solvents or water to
remove dirt.
The component that is subject to most
wear is the cutting device. You should
therefore check the condition of the
cutting device and its mounting at regular
intervals.
If the cutting device is worn or blunt it
must be replaced immediately.
If the product starts to vibrate excessively,
this means that the cutting device has not
been balanced correctly or has suffered
deformation due to impacts. In this case,
it must be repaired or replaced.
REPLACING OR CHANGING THE
CYLINDER
WARNING!
Always switch the product off, disconnect it
from power supply and let it cool down
before changing/replacing the cutting
device!
WARNING!
Always use the correct cutting device
according to the intended use! Observe the
technical requirements of this product (see
the Technical specifications section) when
purchasing and using cutting devices!
Cutting devices are very sharp and become
hot during use! Handle them carefully!
Wear safety gloves when handling cutting
devices to avoid injuries like burns and cuts!
WARNING!
Make sure the two bolts are completely tight
before using the product, don't use the
product if any of the bolts are missing or
loose.
If a bolt thread is damaged, it must be
replaced before the machine can be used
safely. You can replace it with one of a
suitable size.
The product has two functions, scarifying or
raking. The scarifying cylinder is preassembled
on the product. The raking cylinder is included
in the supply box. The cylinder can be
changed according to the different
applications.

stable ground to access the underbody.

3. Loosen the two bolts (22a) with a suitable
wrench, remove them together with the
spring washers (22b) and the attached
cutting device (21 or 23).
4. To remove the cutting device, first lift the
bearing and then pull it off the drive shaft
(25).
5. Align and insert the respective cutting
device: Slide the hex nut into the socket
of the driving shaft (25) and fix the
bearing to the support with the bolts
(22a) and spring washers (22b).
AFTER USE
Switch the product off, disconnect it from the
power supply and let it cool down.
Check, clean and store the product as
described below.
GRASS COLLECTOR
Inspect the grass catcher (15) before each
use. Do not use it if you find any damage.
Clean the grass catcher (15) after operation.
Let the grass catcher dry thoroughly before
storing to avoid mildew.
TRANSPORTATION
Switch the product off and disconnect it from
the power supply before transporting it
anywhere.
Attach transportation guards, if applicable.
Adjust the cutting depth to the transportation
setting (refer to “CUTTING DEPTH
ADJUSTMENT”).
Always transport the product using its handle.
Protect the product from any heavy impact or
strong vibrations which may occur during
transportation in vehicles.
Secure the product to prevent it from slipping
or falling over.
UK PLUG REPLACEMENT
The fuse in the main plug of your garden
power tool should always be replaced with
one of identical rating.
Check the voltage given on your garden
power tool matches the supply voltage. The
garden power tool is supplied with a fitted
plug, however if you should need to fit a new
plug, follow the instructions below.
IMPORTANT:
The wires in the mains lead are coloured in
accordance with the following code:
Blue –Neutral
Brown –Live.
As the colours of the wires in the mains lead
of this appliance may not correspond with the
coloured markings identifying the terminals in
your plug, proceed as follows:
The wire which is coloured blue must be
connected to the terminal which is marked
with N.
The wire which is coloured brown, must be
connected to the terminal, which is marked
with the letter L.
WARNING!
Never connect live or neutral wires to the
earth terminal of the plug.
A 13 AMP (BS1363/A) plug must be used and
a 13 AMP fuse must be fitted.
NOTE: If a moulded plug is fitted and must be
removed, take great care in disposing of the
plug and severed cable, it must be destroyed
to prevent engaging into a socket. If the
supply cord is damaged it must be replaced by
a service agent or certificated electrician, to
ensure the machine can be used safely.

If the product does not perform properly, makes unusual sounds, the motor does not start or stop
as described, the cutting device does not work properly, or any other irregularity or malfunction
occurs, do not attempt to repair the product by yourself. Please contact customer services or your
