1. HANDLING PRECAUTIONS
Operating v ltage range is AC mains ±10% (50/60Hz).
Keep c rr sive chemicals and beverages away fr m the unit as they may be spilt.
When any irregularity is f und, be sure t c ntact y ur nearest TOA dealer. Make n further attempt t use
the unit t av id electrical sh cks.
2. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The TOA M-243 is a 19" rack m untable (1 unit size) stere mixer that c mes with tw m naural inputs, f ur
stere inputs, ne stere utput and tw m naural utputs.
3. FEATURES
Tw m naural inputs, f ur stere inputs, ne stere utput, and tw m naural utputs. Each input signal
can be assigned t three utputs.
Sub-input f r each bus line t the stere utput and tw m naural utputs.
Micr ph ne input r line input selectable f r m naural input depending n the signal level. Internal limiter
minimizes signal dist rti n due t excessive input. Internal switches perate a high-pass filter functi n in the
input circuit, and a pad (20dB) functi n in the micr ph ne input.
Signal clip indicat r.
Aut matic muting functi n (can be switched n and ff) detects the m naural input signal and aut matically
mutes the stere utput signal.
Stere utput has a rec rding utput and equalizers f r high and l w frequencies.
Tw m naural utputs als functi n as stere sum utputs by internal switch setting.
Assign butt n c ver serves as a writing bl ck.
Kn bs supplied in different c l rs f r easy ass ciati n with their respective c ntr ls.

4. NOMENCLATURE AND FUNCTIONS
[Front P nel]
Input level c ntr ls [1-6] (1-2 : M naural input,
3-6 : Stere input)
These c ntr ls adjust the input level f each
channel.
Assign butt ns [ST, 1, 2]
These butt ns select the utput t which the
p st-input level c ntr l signals are delivered.
ST : Stere utput
1 : MONO 1 utput
2 : MONO 2 utput
Assign butt n c ver
This c ver pr tects the assign switch setting
fr m accidental change. It can als be used as
a writing bl ck.
Clip indicat r [PEAK]
This lamp lights when the signal reaches 3dB
bel w clipping. Adjust the signal level using
individual input level c ntr ls s that this lamp
lights nly accidentally.
Mute ON/OFF butt n [AUTO MUTE]
This butt n turns n the muting facility when
pressed. (The muting indicat r will light.) By
detecting the signal assigned t the stere
utput fr m channel 1 r 2, the signal assigned
t stere utputs fr m channel 3 thr ugh
channel 6 is muted. (The signal assigned t the
m naural utput is n t muted.)
Equalizer c ntr ls [EQ : LOW, HIGH]
These c ntr ls adjust stere utput signal t ne.
LOW : L w frequency adjustment
(20Hz, ±15dB shelving)
HIGH : High frequency adjustment
(20kHz, ±15dB shelving)
Stere utput level c ntr l [STEREO]
This c ntr l adjusts a stere utput level.
M naural utput level c ntr ls [MONO 1, 2]
These c ntr ls adjust each m naural utput
level.
P wer butt n and p wer lamp [POWER]
This butt n switches p wer n (the p wer lamp
lights) and ff (the lamp is extinguished).

[Re r P nel]
F r technical details f each input and utput, refer t the secti n "8. SPECIFICATIONS".
M naural input terminals (1,2) [MIC, LINE]
Select either MIC r LINE f r c nnecti n. If b th are c nnected, LINE input takes precedence.
Stere input jacks (3-6) [L , R]
Only CH6 RCA jacks are c nnected in parallel with ph ne jacks.
Stere sub-input terminals [SUB IN STEREO L / M, R]
Signals fr m these terminals are assigned t stere utput buses that g t the stere utput. C nnecting
nly "L" will input t b th "L" and "R".
M naural sub-input terminals [SUB IN MONO 1,2]
Signals fr m these terminals are assigned t m naural utput buses that g t m naural utput 1 and 2.
Rec rding utput jacks [REC L , R]
These stere rec rding jacks utput the signal fr m the stere utput bus.
Stere utput jacks [STEREO OUT L , R]
M naural utput jacks [MONO OUT 1, 2]
These jacks als functi n as stere sum utputs by internal switch setting. (Refer t the secti n
"5. INTERNAL SWITCH SETTINGS".)
AC inlet
C nnect the supplied p wer c rd t this inlet.

The M-243 mixer enables the f ll wing functi ns by setting internal switches.
(1) [PAD switch]
Setting this switch t IN p siti n will place a pad (20dB) in the m naural input (MIC input).
(2) [HPF switch]
Setting this switch t IN p siti n will place a high-pass filter (300Hz, -6dB/ ct) in the m naural input.
(3) [GND switch]
Setting this switch t LIFT p siti n will cut a gr und l p which generates n ise.
(4) [MONO1] nd [MONO 2] switches
Setting each switch t ST SUM p siti n will change each m naural utput t stere sum utput.
