1. Introduction
Toshiba terminated the production of general incandescent lamps in March, 2010. Our long history of
the incandescent lamp production started in 1890 ended. There was the background of the
innovational development of LED lighting as the 4th new light source. Energy-saving focused on the
LED lighting is highly expected as one of the effectiveness on reducing global warming.
LED lighting is greatly expected since it has more possibilities for free luminaires design and better
functions. LED is not solely high efficient, but also its electrical control is easier and glass covering is
no longer needed, compared with conventional lamps such as incandescent and fluorescent.
We have been working on the LED product development such as general LED lamps, exchangeable
LED light engines, lighting luminaires for indoor and outdoor.
The LED Light Engine (hereinafter called LLE) we are going to release has a totally different
structure, compared with conventional lamps and luminaires. Its biggest characteristics is that the
luminous output performance of the LLE is greatly improved by the heat release cycle from the
LLE to the luminaire. Plus, it is also advantage that we can choose variable light engines to
exchange. LLE development contributes to both new lighting development and more energy-saving.

4. Installation Manual
We show a procedure to install LED Light Engine in Socket.
(i)Make a direction △mark of LLE even with Mechanical Key (which there is between earthing
contact and no.4 contact)of the socket.
(ii)Fit LLE in the socket.
(iii)Turn it 15° in clockwise direction.

Socket moves about 0.5mm to the bottom of the figure. LLE is strongly attached to the heat sink by
the spring built-in the socket.

5. Heat release design
(1)Case Temperature (Tcase) measurement method
We define Case Temperature (Tcase) that is the temperature of φ30mm of the cap center of LLE.
Some characteristics of LLE depend on Tcase.
And, tc defined by EN 62031 (rated maximum temperature) is evaluated the temperature at the
measurement area. In the LLE,
1100 lm type tc=65℃,
1600 lm type tc=75℃,
Tcase shall be measured with a thermocouple. By making a hole etc., avoid the attachment part with
a thermocouple being apart from heat sink.

(2)Heat release design for fixtures
To use the LED light engine safely and to exploit the product specification such as luminous output
and life time, heat release design for fixtures is very important. That is why heat sink shall be
attached to the socket side of the LED light engine.
The heat sink design in this case can be reduced as long as the Tc remains under 65 ℃(1100 lm type),
75℃(1600 lm type).
This LED light engine has been designed to meet the rated luminous output and light maintenance
at the Tcase=50℃(1100 lm type),Tcase=60℃(1600 lm type). In normal operating (for instance,
ambient temperature 25℃, rated voltage input), we recommend to use a heat sink which Tcase
become 50℃or 60℃.
(3)TLT standard heat sink
Here, we show TLT standard heat sink. TLT standard heat sink has a hole(φ15) in the center for
temperature measurement use.

(4)Heat releases silicon sheet
The attached sheet on the base cap is heat release silicon sheet. This sheet has appropriate
elasticity(thickness:0.5mm), which fill in the space between the light engine and heat sink, and
greatly help heat release cycle from the light engine to heat sink.
The heat release silicon sheet never shall be taken off.

(4)Dimming characteristics
By applying trailing edge dimmer, 10-100% dimming is possible.

(6)注意事項
a) 3 pieces of M3 screw are attached with the socket. Please do not use any other screw, other
than the attached M3 screw.
b) Tighten the screw till the screw head reaches the installation side.
c) Regarding the pitch of the screws, please refer to the attached drawing.
d) Screw holes for the M3 screws shall be not sharp and shall have no burr.
e) When installing LLE, turn it 15°in clockwise direction. When removing LLE, turn it 15°in
anticlockwise direction.
f) Please follow the specification for LED chips manufacturer as well.
g) After stripping a wire, insert it straight, being careful at not hurting the wire covering.
h) Part selection and fixture design shall be implemented and the final product quality shall be
managed in charge of your company.
