This manual provides information on how to safely install, operate, and maintain your TOSHIBA power
electronics product. Read the manual completely before installing, operating, or performing maintenance on
this equipment.
This manual and the accompanying drawings should be considered a permanent part of the equipment and
should be readily available for reference and review. Dimensions shown in the manual are in metric and/or
the English equivalent.

Introduction
Thank you for your purchase of a Toshiba Energy Storage System (ESS) device. RemotEye® ESS is a
network card designed for Toshiba's SCiB ESS. It receives the status and data from the SCiB ESS host
board to provide it to other systems. This data can be transmitted to other systems, such as building
management systems via Modbus TCP/RTU, SNMP, and BACnet/IP protocols for trending and events
monitoring. RemotEye® ESS also provides an embedded web server to allow easy configuration via a web
browser.

RemotEye® ESS System Application
The following diagram shows how the RemotEye® ESS can be used in a network application. It supports
various protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, and HTTP. It allows building management systems (BMS) to
obtain the ESS status, ESS data, and set up RemotEye® ESS configuration via the network. In addition, a
BMS can capture environmental temperature and humidity via an environmental sensor that can be
attached to RemotEye® ESS. A BMS can communicate with RemotEye® ESS via RS-485 or Ethernet
interface.

Interface Options
The interface options available on RemotEye® ESS includes a Network port
(Ethernet), EMD port, USB port, Setup port, RS-485 port, and a Restart button as shown below.

Setup
Ensure Communication Connections
Installation of the RemotEye® ESS on SCiB ESS must be completed by a trained technician. The below
instructions provide an overview of RemotEye® ESS setting configuration.
A Windows PC is required to configure RemotEye® ESS.
Checklist for Setup
Know the MAC Address for your RemotEye® ESS. This is located on a sticker underneath the
RemotEye® ESS device.
Know the Dip Switch Number on the SCiB ESS Cabinet this RemotEye® ESS will be connected to.
If you want the RemotEye® ESS to use a static IP Address, please know the IP Address, Subnet Mask,
and Gateway Address you want your RemotEye® ESS set to.
Step 1: Ensure SCiB Cabinet and Network Connection
Make sure the “Power LED” and “Network LED” are solid green and blinking amber respectfully. If the LEDs
are not operating in this manner, please ensure the Network cable, Power cable, and ESS Communication
cables are plugged in properly.

Step 2: Locate the RemotEye® ESS IP Address
*Make sure your computer is on the same LAN as the RemotEye® ESS*
a.) Insert the RemotEye® ESS start-up CD into your computer and locate the Tupgrade application found in
the "Upgrade" folder. If a CD reader is not available go to "www.ToshibaUPS.com > Toshiba RemotEye
ESS > View Technical Downloads > Software > Toshiba RemotEye Firmware Upgrade Utility (Tupgrade)
Version X.XX" to download it.
b.) Once Tupgrade is installed and open, click "Discover" on the top right and wait while Tupgrade locates
all RemotEye® units on your current network.
c.) Compare the MAC Addresses in the list, then locate and note your RemotEye® ESS's IP Address.
When connecting the RemotEye to an enabled DHCP network, there is no need to adjust the IP
settings. If you wish to have a static IP address assigned to RemotEye or if you do not have a DHCP
server, continue on this step. If NOT, go to step 3.
d.) Select the RemotEye® ESS you would like to change the IP Address of, and click "Edit". If you have not
already changed the default account values, enter the following Account :TOSHIBA Password: ADMIN, and
click "OK". Now you can click "Set IP" and adjust the IP Address of your RemotEye®. Please wait until the
IP Address updates in the RemotEye® list before you move on to step 3.

Step 3: First Time Setup
1. Launch your web browser and enter your RemotEye ESS’s IP Address into the search bar or select
a RemotEye and click “Browse” within Tupgrade
2. Enter the default username: TOSHIBA and password: ADMIN to login and start the First-Time Setup
process.

3. Follow the instructions on the First-Time Setup page on the web application to complete the
first-time setup process.
Step 4: Establish Communication between SCiB ESS and RemotEye ESS
a) After the first-time setup, log in again to become an administrator (login with the
credentials created in the first time setup).
b) In the dashboard, go to the top navigation bar and click the "gear" logo on the right to
get to the settings. Then click "General" and confirm the baud rate is set to 115200 and
the SCiB Dip Switch Number is correctly identified under the "About" section.

c) Go to the "Dashboard" page to verify that the communication is established. If there is no
connection issue, the dashboard should show the real-time data of the SCiB ESS.
If there is a communication issue, there will be a "Connection Lost" pop-up. If this is the case,
please check the communication cable between RemotEye ESS and the ESS cabinet and make
sure they are securely connected.

RemotEye®ESS Web Application
Dashboard
After the first-time setup is completed, the first page that comes up when logged in or users visit the
RemotEye® ESS web application is the "Dashboard" page.
Navigation bar
The navigation bar displays the basic information such as the current page, the ESS ID number, and
RemotEye® ESS date & time. You can hover the cursor over the icon on the right of the navigation bar to
quickly navigate to different pages

28d 10h 40m 0s worth of data. The polling can be customized

Configuring Settings with Web Browser
Initial Configuration
1. Login to become an administrator and go to the settings page by clicking the "gear" icon on the top
navigation bar.
2. Go to the "Network Settings" section within the "System" menu to set up the network configuration
parameters. If the network configuration setup is correct, please go to step 7 to update the date and
time.
3. Enter IP address.
4. Enter Gateway Address.
