TheTrafficLogixSafePace100isaneconomicalandportableradarspeedsign.Compactand
lightweight,itisaperfectchoiceforprivateorgatedcommunities,corporatecampuses,
schools,constructionzonesandresidentialneighbourhoods.Thisfullfeatured,low‐powersign
offerstheoptionsyouneedatremarkablylowpricing.
2.0AvailableModels

3.0 Installation
Thereareseveralmethods/hardwareoptionsavailablefortheinstallationoftheSafePace100.
3.1SiteSelection
SiteselectionvarieswiththeapplicationinwhichtheSafePace100isbeingused.Thefollowing
guidelines,however,shouldgenerallybeadheredto:
i) Chooseapositionwherethelineofsightfromtheradarsigntothevehiclewillbe
uninterrupted.Considerationshouldbegiventohowthelocationmaydevelopwith
time.Thefollowingtypesofquestionsshouldbeconsidered:Willanytreesgrow
directlyinthelineofvision?Isitlikelythatroadtrafficsignswillbeerectedina
positionthatcouldobstructthefieldofview?
ii) Theradarsignshouldbeinstalleddirectlyadjacenttothelaneofcarsitistargeting
sinceaninterferinglaneoftrafficmaycauseinaccuratespeedreadings.
iii) Thestructurethattheradarsignismountedtoshouldbestableandfirm.Avoid
structuresthatarelikelytobeaffectedbywindorrain.Thesuggestedpoletypefor
installationiseithera4inchdiametercircularmetallicpoleora4x4inchwooden
poleisanidealchoice.IfaTelesparpoleisused,itisstronglyadvisedthata2inch
polebeused

speedsignisapproximately7ftabovethesurfaceoftheroad.Thedisplayshouldbeturned
towardsoncomingtrafficsothatitisclearlyvisibletoapproachingdrivers.

StandardPoleBandingMounting
AttachthesuppliedbandingbracketstothetopandbottomoftherearoftheSafePace100
withthesuppliedtamper‐proof,M6securityscrews.Insertthestainlesssteelbandingstrap
intothebracketandfastenthesigntothepole.Tightenwithanutdriveruntilsecure.See
Figures3&4below.

TheSafePace100comeswithanoptionalUniversalMountingBracketthatallowsthesigntobe
easilymountedtovirtuallyanytypeofpoleorsurfaceinaquick,easyandsecuremanner.The
SafePace100mountstothebracketandisjustaseasilyremovedfromthebracketwithjustthe
turnofakey.Thequickmountanddismountfeatureofthisbracketreadilyallowsthesignto
bemovedfromonelocationtoanotherwithrelativeeaseandconvenience.

TheSafePace100isaverylightweightsignwhichusedinconjunctionwiththeoptional
UniversalMountingBracketisquiteportable.Anoptional,smaller,swivelling“YOURSPEED”
signisavailabletomakeportabilityeveneasier.
Toswivelthe“YOURSPEED”sign,simplyremovethetwo,outertamper‐proofscrewsand
swivelthesigndownwarduntilitcompletelycoversthedigits(seeFigurebelow).Replacethe
two,outerscrewstosecurethesignfortransport.Oncethesignmountedinthenewlocation,
reversetheprocessandyoursignwillbereadytogoinminutes.

TheSafePace100isofferedinseveralpoweringmodels.Dependingonwhatmodelyouhave
purchased,poweringthesignwillvary.
5.1ACPower
WARNING:ELECTRICALSHOCKHAZARDToavoidseriousinjuryor
evendeath,allelectricalwiringshouldbeperformedbyaqualified
andprofessionalelectricianinaccordancewithlocalelectrical
codes.Mishandlingofelectricalwiringmayresultindamagetothe
unitandmayvoidproductwarranty.
TheSafePace100isequippedtoaccept100‐240voltsofACpower.Forthesesigns(standard
model),theregulatedpowersupplycomesalreadyprewired,andyoursignisreadytooperate
onceitismountedandwiredtotheincomingpowersupply.TheLine(BLACK)andNeutral
(WHITE)wiresoftheincomingpowersupplyshouldbeconnectedtothemarkedterminals.The
GroundwireshouldbeconnectedtotheGREEN/YELLOWterminal(seeFigure22below).

sign.Attimes,though,duetosomeshippingrestrictionsonLithiumbatteries,thebatterymay
beshippedseparately.Oncethebatteryisreceived,removethebatteryfromtheshipping
packaging.WARNING:theLithiumbatterycomeswithaprotectiveblackwrapontheoutside
oftheunitthatSHOULDNEVERberemoved;doingsowilldamagethebatteryandwillcreate

apotentialhazard.TheLithiumbatteriessuppliedwiththeSafePace100arestableandsafe
whenhandledandusedproperly.Careshouldbetakennottobendthebatteryorpunctureit
withsharpobjectsasfireand/orexplosionmayresult.
Thebatteryshouldbechargedfullybeforetheinitialuse.Thesuppliedbatterychargeris
equippedwithachargeindicator.WhenthelightonthechargerisRED(withthebattery
pluggedintoboththebatteryandanACpoweroutlet,thebatteryischarging.Oncethelight
turnsGREEN,thebatteryisnowfullychargedandisreadyforuse.
Thebatteryshouldbeplacedwithcareintothebatteryholderinsidethesign.Beforeclosing
thedoorofthesign,ALWAYSmakesurethatthebatteryholderisclosedandlockedintoplace.
Failuretodosomayresultindamagetothebatterybracketandenclosure.
Toinstallthebatteryinthebatterybracket,pullontheplungerpinontheupperbracket(see
Figure23below)andopenthebracketdoor.Gentlyinsertthebatteryintothelowerbracket
andlaythebatteryflatagainsttheenclosure.Next,gentlyclosethebatterybracketdoorand
makesuretheplungerpinlocksintoplace.Oncethebatteryissecuredinthebatterybracket,
connectthebatteryandsignpowerconnectors.Onceconnected,thesignwillpoweron.

5.3aMountingtheSolarPanel
Thesolarpanelshouldbemountedatthehighestpointonthepole,optimally10‐12
Feethigh.Mountthesignusingthesuppliedsolarpanelbracket(seeFigure28above)and
pleasefollowtheinstructionsprovidedbythemanufacturerwhicharesuppliedinthebracket’s
packaging.Thetwopartbracketallowsforfulladjustmentinordertobestpositionthepanel
towardsthesun.ItisoptimaltopositionyoursolarpaneltowardsdueSolarSouth(not
magneticSouth).SolarSouthisthepositionofthesuninskyexactlyatthemidpointbetween
sunriseandsunset.SeeAppendixAfortechniquesonhowtodetermineSolarSouthforyour
installationsite.Thesolarpanelshouldbeangled15degreesabovethelatitudeofthe
installationsitewhichcanbereadilyascertainedfrommappingsoftwareorfreefrommapping
andtraveldirectionwebsitesontheinternet.

water‐tightcompressionconnectoronthetopofthesign(seeFigures32‐34).Next,carefully
striptheprotectivesheathoffofthewirebundletoexposethetwoinnerwires(seeFigures35
&36).Next,striptheBLACKandREDwirestoexposebarewire.Connectthewirestothesolar
charger.TheBLACKwireshouldbeconnectedtothenegativeterminalmarkedSolarPanel‐
andtheREDwireshouldbeconnectedtothepositiveterminalmarkedSolarPanel+(see
Figures37&38).Oncethewiresaresecurelyconnected,usethewhitemountingtabswiththe
ziptiestosecurethewiretothebodyofthesign.

Therearethreewaystodeterminewhichwayistruesouth.
GoogleEarth
YoucanuseGoogleEarthtozeroinonyourhouseandfindtruesouth.Thisrequires
downloadingasmallprogramfromtheGoogleEarthsite.Placetheitemyouwanttodetermine
thedirectionofrightinthecenterofthedisplay,astheangleschangeasyoupanaround.In
the“View”drop‐downmenu,selecting"Grid"willdisplayalatitude‐longitudegridinwhichthe
gridlinesruninthenorth‐southandeast‐westdirections.
SolarNoonMethod
Thismethodusesthefactthatthesunisalwaystruesouthatsolarnoon.Ashadowcastbya
verticalobjectatsolarnoonrunstruenorth‐south.So,atsolarnoon,usetheshadowcastbya
plumb‐bobstringortheverticaledgeofabuildingtodeterminetruesouth.
Todeterminethelocaltimethatcorrespondstosolarnoon,findthesunriseandsunsettimes
fromacurrentlocalpaper(where"local"and"current"arebothimportant!).MostGPSunits
willalsogivethetimesforsunsetandsunrise‐‐justmakesuretheGPSissettoyourtime
zone.Solarnoonisexactlyhalfwaybetweenthesunriseandsunsettime.Notethatthe
differencebetweenlocaltimenoonandsolarnooncanbequiteabit,dependingonyour
locationinthetimezone,anddaylightsavingtime.

CompassMethod
Youcanuseamagneticcompasstofindsouth.Thecompassreadingmustbecorrectedforthe
magneticdeclinationinyourarea.Magneticdeclinationisthedifference(indegrees)between
thedirectionthecompassneedlepointsandtruenorth.MagneticDeclinationdependsonyour
location.Youcanlookupthedeclinationforyourareaat:
http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/seg/geomag/jsp/Declination.jsp.Somecompassesallowthe
declinationtobeset.Ifyoursdoes,thenjustsetyourlocaldeclinationandyouaregoodtogo.
Ifnot,thenoneachcompassreading,youmustoffsetthecompassneedlefromthetruenorth
markonthecompassbythedeclinationangle.Forexample,ifyouliveinBozeman,MTyour
declinationisabout14degreeseast.Totakeatruecompassbearing,rotatethecompassuntil
theneedlepoints14degreeseastofnorthonthecompassbearingscale.Ifyourdeclination
were14degreeswest,youwouldrotatethecompassuntiltheneedlewas14degreeswestof
northonthebearingscale(itwouldpointto360‐14=346).
