INSTALLATION WARNINGS
!Place the remote receiver in the location detailed in these instructions. Placing the receiver in other
locations may cause the receiver to become too hot and degrade.
!All 110 AC wiring must be done by a qualified electrician and shall be in compliance with local codes
and the National Electric Code ANSW/NFPA no. 70 (in the United States) or with the current CSA
C22.1 Canadian Electric Code (in Canada).
!This kit must be installed by a qualified technician.
!Do not connect 110 VAC to the gas control valve or on/off switch on gas heaters or the thermostat posts
on pellet heaters.
!The remote control is carefully engineered and MUST be installed only as specified. It is tested safe
when installed in accordance with this installation manual If you modify it or any of its components,
you may possibly cause a fire hazard. It is your responsibility to read all instructions before starting
installation and to follow these instructions carefully during installation.
!Disconnect the power (turn off the household breaker) and shut off the gas supply to the heater before
installing the remote control.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1 Remove the cover from the back of the transmitter. Slide the code switches to a random position on the
receiver. Then position the switches on the transmitter to match the dip switch positions on the receiver.
Prior to replacing the cover, place three AAA batteries inside the transmitter. Make sure the switch on
the back of the receiver is set to match the fuel being used (NG or LPG).
NOTE: Make sure the button on the receiver is green - if it is not, contact Travis for replacement.

2 For fireplaces, remove the faceplate. On stoves, access the gas control valve. Next, install the
modulating regulator following the directions below.

Remove the regulator
using the included
Torx T-20 Ball-End "L"
wrench. Make sure to
remove and discard
the old gasket and
spring.

Install the modulating regulator
using the screws included with the
regulator. Make sure the rubber
gasket is in place. Fully tighten the
screws (25 In.Lb.).
NOTE: this illustration
shows the gas control
valve with the inlet to the
left. On the FPX 35 CB
the valve will be rotated
180°.
The ball end is required
for this screw.
3 Follow the directions below for the FPX models 35 CB and 36 DV (otherwise, go to step 4).
Installations Without
the Power Heat Duct:
Remove the two wires
currently connected to the
snap disk on the fireplace.
Attach the two wires
labeled "Optional Snap
Disk" to the snap disk.

4a Follow the directions below for installation into a FPX 35 CB or 36 DV (otherwise, follow step 4b).

Pull the molex connector on the
fireplace through the heat shield.
Remove and discard this molex
connector.
Attach the molex
connector from
the receiver to
the molex
connector on the
wiring harness of
the fireplace.

OPTIONAL" to the modulating regulator.

Slide the receiver into the
receiver heat shield. The
tabs on the bottom of the
receiver slide into the slots
on the receiver heat shield.
Make sure the power
is disconnected!

BEFORE YOU BEGIN:
Note The pilot flame must be lit, the gas control valve turned to "ON", and the on/off
switch turned to "OFF".
Warning Read all of the safety precautions in the owner’s manual included with your heater
before using this remote control.
MODES OF OPERATION:
The thermostat can be operated in the following modes:
Manual Use the remote to turn the
heater on and off.
NOTE: If left on, the heater
will turn off after 6 hours.
TO TURN ON AND OFF:
Use this key to toggle the
heater on and off. The
display will indicate the
status.

By pressing this
button, the remote
automatically enters

the thermostat mode
on. The display will
indicate “Auto” in the
lower left.
TO ADJUST TARGET
TEMPERATURE:
Use the arrow keys to adjust
the target temperature to the
desired level.
The heater will turn on and
off to keep the room
temperature near the target
temperature.

The thermostat has a built-in
time delay to keep the heater
from constantly turning on and
off. This means the target
temperature may be slightly
higher (2° or 3°) than the roo

HINT:
If your heater turns on
and off frequently, adjust
the flame height down
slightly for a more
consistent heat output.

FEATURES:
Child-Proof This switch (located behind
the battery cover - see the
illustration on the following
page) disables the buttons on
the front of the remote.

If the heater is on (any mode) and the batteries go dead, the heater will turn off after 6. To operate
the heater, use the switch on the heater to turn the heater on and off.

Slide the access
cover off.
Because the remote utilizes a modulating actuator on the flame height regulator, the flame height will
go to 20% during a power outage. To over-ride this, and make the heater burn at 100%, follow the
directions below. Use the switch on the heater to turn the heater on and off.
Twist and remove
the clear plastic
regulator cover
(be careful - it is
fragile). Remove the pin held
in this hole.
