Quick Installation Guide
Welcome
Thank you for purchasing this product. For optimum
performance and safety, please read these instructions
carefully before connecting, operating or adjusting this
product. Please keep this installation guide for future
reference.
Before You Begin
•Install AGP drivers for non-Intel chipset based
motherboards. Each non-Intel chipset requires the
installation of a custom Virtual GART (AGP) Driver.
It is very important that the correct AGP driver be
installed before installing your Tachyon graphics card.
Please consult the chipset manufacturer’s website to
find the appropriate AGP driver.
•If you previously had another graphics card in your
system, you will need to uninstall the old display
drivers from the Add/Remove Programs section of
your Control Panel. The System should be restarted
after the drivers have been removed.
•If the previously installed graphics card had any
additional software (e.g. DVD player,
Multimedia applications, etc) installed, they should
also be removed.
Installing Your Tachyon Graphics Card
1. Power-off the computer and monitor. Disconnect the
monitor cable from the back of your computer.
2. Remove the computer cover. Remember to discharge
your body’s static electricity by touching the metal
surface of the computer chassis.
3. Remove any existing graphics card from your system.
Hold onto the screw. If your computer has on-board
graphics capability, you may need to disable it on the
motherboard. For more information, see your
computer documentation.
4. Locate the AGP slot on your motherboard. Align your
Tachyon Graphics Card with the AGP slot. Press it
firmly until the card is fully seated. Replace the screw
and fasten it into place.
5. If you have a Tachyon G9800/G9700/G9600/G9500
Series graphics card, you will now need to attach the
extra power connector. It is recommended that you use
a 300 Watt power supply or greater for proper
operation.
yRemove the power cable from the Hard Drive
power connector.
yConnect Aof the Power Extension Cable to the
Tachyon graphics card’s power connector. (The
cable may already be connected.)

yConnect Bto the power supply connector.
yConnect Cto the Hard Drive power connector.
6. Plug the monitor cable into your card. If you intend to
attach two analog CRT monitors, first attach the DVI-
I-to-VGA adapter (included) to the DVI port on your
card.
7. Turn on the computer and monitor.
Installing Your Tachyon Graphics Driver
1. Windows® may launch the “Add New Hardware
Wizard” to install the Standard VGA driver. If it does,
follow the instructions to identify your new hardware.
Click Next. Click Finish.
2. If you are using Windows® 9X or ME, you will now
need to install Microsoft® DirectX® 8.1 (or later)
BEFORE installing your graphics driver.
yInsert the Driver CD into your CD-ROM.
yIf Windows® DOES NOT run automatically, click
Start->Run. Type D:\TyanSoft.exe (If Dis not
your CD-ROM drive, substitute with the correct
drive letter.) Click OK.
yClick on Install Software. Click on DirectX, and
then the Wizard will begin. Carefully follow the
instructions. Click OK to reboot.
3. You are now ready to install the graphics driver.
•Insert the Driver CD into your CD-ROM.
•If Windows® DOES NOT run automatically, click
Start->Run. Type D:\TyanSoft.exe (If Dis not
your CD-ROM drive, substitute with the correct
drive letter.) Click OK.
•Click on Install Software. Click on Graphics
Device Driver. Click on the product (e.g. G9700
PRO) you wish to install. Click on the appropriate
O/S platform, and then the Wizard will begin.
Carefully follow the instructions.
4. Lastly, you will need to install the ATI Control Panel
Update.
•Insert the Driver CD into your CD-ROM.
•If Windows® DOES NOT run automatically, click
Start->Run. Type D:\TyanSoft.exe (If Dis not
your CD-ROM drive, substitute with the correct
drive letter.) Click OK.
•Click on Install Software. Click on Graphics
Device Driver. Click on the product (e.g. G9700
PRO) you wish to install. Then click on Control
Panel Update and the Wizard will begin.
Carefully follow the instructions.
•Now you are ready to reboot the system.
