1. GETTING STARTED
Thank you for choosing our ChatterBox BiT-4, Bluetooth Communication System for Motorcycle
helmet.

Battery charging
Connect the supplied USB charging data cable with a PC or wall charger.
Be sure to charge the product using the USB charging data cable provided. Charge with a normal
charger of 5V or less than 1.2A. Using a high-speed charger for Smart-phones or a supplementary
battery with high-speed charging (9V, higher than 1.2A) may inflate the battery, cause an explosion,
or damage internal circuits.
With a normal charger, it takes 2.5~3 hours to fully charge. Charging time depends on the
temperature. The Red LED flashes while charging and the Blue LED lights and stay showing the
charging is finished. If the charging is finished disconnect the charging cable. Overcharging may
cause battery inflation and damage the battery.
You can charge BiT-4 with a power bank (an external battery pack) while you are using it. In this case,
the Red LED and Purple LED (Red and Blue LED at the same time) flash alternately. When the
charging is finished, the LED turns and flashes to Blue.
Battery
Please read the following notes. The battery of this product cannot be replaced by user. Always keep
your battery charged enough.
 Every battery discharge by itself naturally. If the battery was discharged and not charged for
a long time, the voltage drops under 2.0V, the battery can not be charged again. In this case,
you need to replace the battery if battery replacement is applicable. However, this
replacement can not be covered by warranty.
 Do not disassemble the product or do not try to replace the battery. It may cause product
failure. Warranty repair can not be applicable.
 Battery capacity may be reduced depending on environmental factors and usage. Life cycle
of Lithium Ion, or Lithium Polymer battery, battery manufacturer guarantees 300 times of
full charges and discharges.
 Use or store the product at -15°C and +50°C. Higher or lower temperatures may temporally

cause reduced battery capacity, battery life, or temporary inactivity.
 Long exposure of the product to direct sunlight in a hot temperature may cause circuit
failure or battery failure.
 Do not use any product damaged by impact, circuit or battery failure may occur.
2. INSTALLATION
Speaker and Microphone Installation
Both microphones for open-face and full-face helmets are provided. Please choose the one that you
intend to use for the type of your helmet.
① Remove the inner pad of the helmet where you want to locate the speakers and microphone.
② Make sure to clean inside of your helmet with alcohol and fully dry the spot where you want to
put the Velcro for the speakers and microphone.
③ For open-face helmet, attach soft Velcro disk inside of the helmet at your chic level and place the
boom-microphone on it and set the white dot on the Microphone-head to face your mouth.
Additionally, fix the boom-stick by using the butterfly shaped holder to support it.
④ For full-face helmet, attach soft Velcro disk on the chin bar of the helmet and attach hard Velcro
disk to the microphone. It is recommended to fix wires with tapes.
⑤ Mount the soft Velcro disks on the liner of your helmet, in the indented part of the helmet
padding, where your ears would line up. For the best sound quality, be sure to locate the
speakers to the right location.
⑥ Attach the right speaker (with the longer wire) to the corresponding Velcro disk that you applied
on the helmet liner. Attach the left speaker (with the shorter wire) to the other Velcro disk.
⑦ Re-install removed inner pad back on the helmet

※ CAUTION: Repositioning of the Velcro stickers of the speakers and microphones more than
one time may result in poor adhesion. ( Velcro stickers are available on the website,
http://www.chatterboxglobal.com/)

Speakers Cradle and Bracket
Installation of cradle, bracket and BiT-4 main device
1. Prepare the provided cradle, bracket, screws and L-wrench.
2. Attach the metal bracket with rubber to face cradle to the cradle using screws but do not fully
tighten at this stage.
3. Slide the bracket iron plate into the gap between the helmet shell and the inner pad of the left
side.
4. Now tighten the screws on the bracket to fit the cradle to the helmet firmly using the L wrench.
5. Connect the microphone and speakers to the cradle. Make sure to match the arrow at the end
of the plug and jack.
6. Insert the guide fin on the back of the product along the slide of the cradle and push it down
until you hear the 'click' sound.
※ CAUTION: If screws of the cradle are over-tightened, back of cradle may be bended and this may
result in difficulty setting the BiT-4 main device on the cradle or main product may fall off by shock
or vibration.

4. BASIC FUNCTIONS
Power On/Off: Long press POWER BUTTON for 3 seconds.
Volume Up: Press the PLUS BUTTON with intervals of longer than 0.5 seconds.
Volume Down: Press the MINUS BUTTON with intervals of longer than 0.5 seconds.
※ CAUTION: Fast double-pressing within 0.5 seconds will result in searching next / previous song in
Music mode OR that will result in scanning up and down channels in FM radio mode.
Automatic Power-Off: If the BiT-4 main device is not in operation for longer than 60 minutes, the
device will automatically be turned off to save the battery.
※ Automatic Power-off function can be controlled through the Smart-phone application. However,
this function will not be off while a phone call, Intercom call, Music play and FM radio are operating
Voice Command function of your Mobil-phone:
To activate Voice Command function in your Smart-phone through BiT-4 device, after stopping
Music or FM radio, long press PLUS BUTTON longer than 1 second. But make sure the voice

recognition function of your Smart-phone is activated.
5. SMART-PHONE CONNECTION
Smart-phone Pairing
① Make sure your BiT-4 device is powered off.
② Press and hold POWER BUTTON for 8 seconds until the LED turns and flashes in Red and Blue
alternately. [Voice Prompt: “Bluetooth pairing”]
③ Turn on the Bluetooth function in your Smart-phone and search and select the name of the
device (ChatterBox BiT-4 Vxx)
④ Certain Smart-phones may require a password <Password: 0000>
⑤ After pairing is completed, the Blue LED slowly flashes in every 2 seconds. [Voice Prompt:
“Bluetooth Connected”]
⑥ After pairing is finished, turn the power off and then turn on the device again in order to prevent
a sudden volume increase.
※NOTE for iPhone users: After the pairing is done, please set the device at the minimum volume
level to prevent sudden volume increase. (Delete)
Second Smart-phone pairing
Pairing sequence is exactly the same as the first Smart-phone pairing.
※CAUTION: Please make sure that you turn off the Bluetooth function of the first
paired-Smart-phone before starting the second Smart-phone pairing.
New Smart-phone (the third phone) replacement
① Turn off one of the previously paired Smart-phones’Bluetooth functions or delete the paired
device's name (ChatterBox BiT-4 Vxx) from the connected Bluetooth device list in the
Smart-phone set up menu.
② Pairing sequence is exactly the same as the first Smart-phone pairing.
6. MODE CHANGE
Music Mode:

Short double-press the FUNCTION BUTTON.
FM radio Mode:
Short double-press FUNCTION BUTTON.
1:1 Intercom Mode: (Rider & Passenger Intercom)
To connect Intercom: Short press POWER BUTTON.
To disconnect Intercom: Short press POWER BUTTON again.
※ Intercom Pairing must be preceded
Universal Intercom Mode :
To connect Intercom: Short double-press POWER BUTTON.
To disconnect Intercom: Short double-press POWER BUTTON again.
※ Universal-Pairing must be preceded
4 Riders Multi-Intercom Mode :
To connect Intercom: Short press INTERCOM BUTTON once.
To disconnect Intercom: Short double-press INTERCOM BUTTON.
※ Multi-Intercom-Pairing must be preceded
Surround Monitoring Mode:
※To activate : Long press the CRADLE BUTTON for longer than 2 seconds
※To deactivate : Long press the CRADLE BUTTON for longer than 2 seconds
Check Battery Power Level :
Simultaneously short press PLUS and MINUS BUTTONs, then voice prompts will announce the
battery power capacity in 6 levels.
‘5’ = 100%

‘4’ = 80~100%
‘3’ = 60~80%
‘2’ = 40~60%
‘1’ = 20~40%
‘Low Battery’ = 0~20%
7. PHONE FUNCTIONS
Answering an incoming call: Press the FUNCTION BUTTON shorter than 1 second.
Rejecting an incoming call: Press the FUNCTION BUTTON longer than 1 second.
Hanging up the call: Press the FUNCTION BUTTON longer than 1 second.
Automatic answering: If you take no action for an incoming call for 20 seconds, device will answer
automatically. (This function can be adjusted by Smart-phone Application Control.)
Holding the current call, answering another incoming call: Press the FUNCTION BUTTON
shorter than 1 second. As soon as the second call ends, the phone connection automatically transfers
to the first call.
While being on the phone, rejecting another incoming call: Press the FUNCTION BUTTON longer
than 1 second.
Last number redialing & Speed dial
To activate redial function: After stopping music or FM radio, press the MINUS BUTTON longer than
1 second. [Voice Prompt: “Redial”]
To redial the last number: Press the FUNCTION BUTTON
To dial saved phone numbers: After hearing the voice prompt of “Redial”, press the PLUS or MINUS
Button to select a speed dial and press the FUNCTION BUTTON to call [Voice Prompt: “One, Two,
Three…”]
※ Phone numbers can be saved through Smart-phone Application
While being on the phone, switching device between BiT-4 and Smart-phone:

If you want to take off your helmet in the middle of phone conversation and you want to talk on your
Smart-phone directly, press and hold the PLUS and MINUS BUTTONs simultaneously for longer
than 1 second, then the call switch over from BiT-4 to your Smart-phone. In order to switch over back
to BiT-4, do the same operation.
8. MUSIC MODE
Enter / Exit music mode: Short double-press the FUNCTION BUTTON. [Voice Prompt: “Music play
mode”]
Music Play / Stop: Short press FUNCTION BUTTON. [Voice Prompt: “Music play” / “mute”]
Fast-forward: Short double press PLUS BUTTON within 0.5 seconds. [Voice Prompt: Beep sound]
Rewind: Short double press MINUS (-) BUTTON within 0.5 seconds. [Voice Prompt: Beep sound]
Switching music between two Smart-phones paired to one BiT-4 device: Press the FUNCTION
BUTTON longer than 1 second (Short press the FUNCTION BUTTON again to play music of your
second Smart-phone.)

※ As two Smart-phones are paired to one BiT-4, a short-delay or a short-disconnection in music
playing might occur.
※ For certain types of Smart-phone, music volume can be controlled simultaneously or separately.
How to pair two BiT-4 devices for Music Sharing
① Place two BiT-4 devices close to each other to pair for sharing music
② Short press the FUNCTION BUTTON to enter the SET UP mode for the both, and then
search for the “Music sharing” function by pressing PLUS or MINUS BUTTON.
③ As you find “Music sharing”, press the FUNCTION BUTTON to select. Then, LED alternately
flashes in Red and Blue [Voice Prompt: “Music Pairing”]
④ After “Music sharing” is paired on the both phones, LED turn and flash to Blue [Voice
Prompt : Music Connected]

1:1 Intercom Pairing
① Place two devices to pair close to each other.
② Long press INTERCOM BUTTONs of both devices for 3 seconds until the LED flashes in red and
blue alternately. [Voice Prompt: “Pairing”]
③ Short press INTERCOM BUTTON of the device to be set as a Master. [Voice Prompt: “Intercom
Pairing”] Then, Red LED flashes fast to enter pairing mode.
④ As pairing is completed, the Green LED flashes.
※ As your device is already connected with one device, in case that you wish to pair with another
device, press INTERCOM BUTTON for 6 seconds.
1:1 Intercom Connection / Disconnection:
To connect: Short press POWER BUTTON [Voice Prompt: “Intercom 1 connected”]

※ Even if 1:1 Intercom communication is interrupted by a phone call, the Intercom communication
can stay in connection with diminished sound. After hanging up the phone call, Intercom volume
comes back to normal sound level.
※ During 1:1 Intercom conversation, changing the saved FM radio channels, Redial last number, and
voice command function can not be operated.
4 Riders Multi-Intercom Pairing
① Place two devices to pair close to each other.
② Long press INTERCOM BUTTONs of both devices for 3 seconds until the LED flashes in Red
and Blue alternately. [Voice Prompt: “Pairing"]
③ Double press INTERCOM BUTTON of the device to be set as a Master. [Voice Prompt :
“Group Pairing”] Then, Blue LED flashes fast to enter multi pairing mode.
④ As pairing is completed, a Green LED flashes. [Voice Prompt : “Connected 1(numbers of other
devices connected to your device) / Connected 2(numbers of other devices connected to your
device)”]

Universal Intercom pairing method in case that Non-ChatterBox product is set as a
master:
① Place two devices to pair close to each other.
② Long press INTERCOM BUTTON for 3 seconds until the Red and Blue LEDs flash alternately.
And then wait until Non-ChatterBox product search BiT-4 to pair. [Voice Prompt : Pairing]
③ Please refer to a user manual of Non-ChatterBox product to find out the method of
universal pairing.
Universal Intercom Connection / Disconnection
Universal Intercom Connection: On OFF state, short double-press POWER BUTTON

※ Universal Intercom Connection or disconnection by using BiT-4 INTERCOM BUTTON is capable
only if BiT-4 is set as a master.
※ Audio Multi-Tasking: In case that BiT-4 is set as a master, Universal Intercom can be
simultaneously operated with FM radio or Music.
※ Even if Universal Intercom communication is interrupted by a phone call, Universal Intercom
communication can stay in connection with diminished sound. After hanging up the phone call, the
Universal Intercom volume comes back to normal sound level
Intercom connection between 1:1 Intercom & Universal Intercom
In case that BiT-4 is set as a Master in the Universal Intercom Mode, this universally paired BiT-4 can
be paired with 1:1 Intercom. Its pairing method is same with the pairing method stated above.
