About this Manual
RFID Utility for RS804 Version 1.0 is a Windows application that is aimed to
provide a preliminary aid for RS804 Site Planning.
This manual is aimed to provide a step by step guide on how to use all the
functions of this utility.

Chapter 1 : User Interface Overview
RFID Utility for RS804 Version 1.0 is a Windows-based utility that provides the
Inventory tools and statistics for aiding you in the preliminary site planning of
the placements of your RS804 readers.
You can connect to your RS804 on the network and perform the following
functions:
Perform Inventory (Manual or Event Triggered)
Inventory List and Statistics
Perform Tag Operations (Read, Write, Kill, Lock)
Perform Firmware Update
Configure RS804 Common Settings
1 Connections Panel
You can perform the following actions in this area:
Auto discovery a list of available RS804 devices on your local network
Connect – Select a RS804 device and connect to it
Check Antenna – verify the antenna status. After clicking on the Check
Antenna button, inactive antennas will be marked on the Inventory Page.

Ping – ping the connected RS804. When Ping is enabled, the RS804 LED
light will blink to indicate it is bring pinged. Turn off ping when you are finished
with it.
User LED – change the User LED light color on the connected RS804. The
default is Off.
2 Side Bar
There are three page options on the side bar panel for you to get to different pages
of the application. Each page allows you perform a particular set of functions. You
must be connected to a RS804 device before using the Pages.
Inventory Page – The majority of your Site Planning work would be done on
this page. Here is where you can perform Inventory, see Inventory statistics,
Antenna Status, GPIO Status, and perform Tag Operations.
Reader Info Page – This is where you can see the RS804 basic information
and perform Firmware Update.
Settings Page – This is where you can try out different Reader Settings and
Application Settings so that you can find your optimal settings and your
RS804 deployment placements.
3 Page Panels
This area will show the content of the page you selected from the side bar. The
pages you can switch to include the Inventory Page, Reader Info page, and the
Settings page.

Chapter 2 : Connection Panel
2.1Connect and Disconnect
To connect to a RS804 device:
ConnectyourRS804toyourlocalnetworkandturniton.
ConnectyourPCtothesamenetworkasyourRS804.
WaitforRFIDUtilitytoautomaticallydiscoveryyourRS804.The
discoveredRS804deviceswillbelistedinthedropdownmenu.
SelectyourdesiredRS804fromthelist,andthenclicktheConnect
buttontomakeaconnectiontothedevice.
To Disconnect from a RS804 device:
ClicktheDisconnectbuttontodisconnectfromthedevice.
2.2Check Antenna
Click the Check Antenna button to start checking the antenna ports on the
device. RFID Utility will briefly perform inventory and determine the ports in
which the antennas are connected or disconnected.
The Antenna Ports are represented as color-coded circles on the
Inventory Page. You can click on the colored rings to enable or disable a
connected antenna.

The antenna color representations and status icons will be shown as one
of the following states:

2.3Ping
Pinging will make the connected RS804 to blink its LED light in red color.
2.4User LED Color
To light up the User LED on the connected RS804, you can select one of
the three color options from the list: Green, Red, and Orange.
To turn of the User LED on the RS804, set the option to OFF.

Chapter 3 : Inventory Page
3.1Overview
TheInventoryPageallowsyoutoperforminventoryoperations,tagoperations,as
wellastheGPIOoperations.YoucanusetheInventoryPagetoaidyoursiteplanning
by:

1 Inventory Start/Stop Button
Click on the Start or Stop button to start or stop the inventory on the connected
RS804.
When Inventory is started, the time lapse is shown under the button to
indicate the time spent since the start of the inventory session.
You can also click the Clear button to clear the inventory list.

2 Inventory Stats
The Inventory Stats area shows the Antenna Connection status, the distribution of
tags read on each antenna, as well as the basic stats of the inventory session.
The four color-coded circles indicate whether each antenna is connected
The number inside each circle indicates the tags read by the antenna in the
current inventory session.
The selection box below each circle lets you adjust the power of each
antenna. The default is 2700.
On the right of the Inventory Stats area shows the basic stats of the inventory
such as Number of reads, reads per second, and number of unique tags read.
3 Inventory List
This area shows a list of tags read by RS804 during an Inventory session.
You can select the columns to show from the Application Settings area.
You can sort the list by clicking on the title of each column.
You can click on a tag to perform Tag Operations on that tag. (The tag data
will be displayed at the bottom of the application where the Tag Operation
area is located).
4 Tag Operations
When you click on a tag in the Inventory List, the tag data will populate the tag
operation area for further tag operations.
You can see how the selected tag is distributed amongst the 4 antennas
A1-A4.
You can perform tag operations on the tag, Read, Write, Lock and Kill. The
tag operations can be done on one of the four banks of the tag, EPC, TID,
USER, and RESERVED.

Here shows the logs of the operations of the connected RS804.
You can save the logs into a file by clicking on the Save Log button.
You can also save the data in the Inventory List to a file by clicking on the
Save Inventory button.
6 GPIO Operations
You can view and change the state of the GPIO here.
Grey dots indicate the GPI or GPO pins are in the low/off state, and Green
dots indicate the GPI or GPO pins are in the high/on state.
You can click on one of the GPO dot to switch the state of that GPO pin.
3.2 Inventory List
1 Inventory List
This shows a list of tags read by the current inventory session. You can click on the
title of each column to sort by that particular column.
By default, the list shows all the columns. You can configure to show only the
columns you are interested in from:
Settings > Application Settings >Inventory Table Columns

RSSI The current tag RSSI value
PC The PC value of this tag
Last/First seen The time this tag is first / last seen.
A1-A4 Count The Number of times each Antenna (Antenna 1 – Antenna 4)
has encountered this tag
A1-A4
Last/First Seen
The time that this tag is first / last seen by each of the Antenna
(Antenna 1 to Antenna 4)
2 Inventory Tags
Click on a tag in the list will let you perform Tag Operations in the area below the
Inventory List.
3.3 Inventory Statistics
1 Antenna Connection Status
The color-coded circles show the Antenna connection status of each Antenna Port.
Green – Antenna1
Orange – Antenna 2
Blue – Antenna 3
Red – Antenna 4

When an antenna is disconnected from the port, the circle will be greyed out to
indicate that the Antenna is not available.
2 Antenna Reads
The numbers shown inside each Antenna Circle indicate the number of reads for
each of the antenna.
3 Antenna Power
You can adjust the power of each antenna by selecting from the drop down list. The
default power is 2700.
4 Number of Reads
This shows the total number of reads performed by all of the antennas in the
current inventory session.
5 Reads per Second
This shows the average reads per second stats from all the antennas in the current
inventory session.
6 Number of Unique Tags
This shows the number of unique tags read from all the antennas in the current
inventory session.

For the tag you selected on the Inventory List, this shows the distribution of tag
RSSI values read by each of the antennas with time. The X axis is time, and Y axis
is RSSI value. The higher the value, the better the tag is being able to be read by
the antenna.
2 Tag Operations
You can perform tag operations Read, Write, Lock, and Kill on the tag you currently
selected on the Inventory List.
Read You can Read from one of the four banks available.
Please specify the Offset and Length and click on the HEX or ASCII
button to read the data in HEX or ASCII format. Some of the data
can only be read in HEX format.
If the tag is password protected, you have to enter the correct
password value in HEX format.
EPC bank can be read in HEX format only
TID bank can be read in HEX format only:
USER bank can be read in both HEX or ASCII formats of your
choice (This example shows ASCII read)

Reserved bank can be read in HEX format only:
Write You can Write to one of the four banks available.
Please specify the Offset and Length and click on the HEX or ASCII
button to write the data in HEX or ASCII format. Some of the data
can only accept data in HEX format.
If the tag is password protected, you have to enter the correct
password value in HEX format.
Lock You can lock access to one of the 5 fields in the tag:
Access Password – need to specify the password when
reading the tag
Kill Password – need to specify the password when killing the
tag
EPC/TID/USER Memory – need to specify the password
when accessing the EPC/TID/USER memory on the tag.
Kill Enter the EPC name to kill. If the tag has a Kill password, you need
also to specify the correct password.

3.5 Logs
1 Log List
Shows a list of logs.
2 Save Inventory
Save the current inventory data in the Inventory List.

Save the current log data in the Log List.

5.1 Reader Settings

Region
Set Region Set the region of your RS804
Reading Settings
Profile Set the reader profile.
(Default: 1)
Tag Population Set the population of your tags.
When you set the population to the predefined set (Small,
Medium, Large), we will automatically adjust the session,
algorithm and Q value to match the population size of all your
tags. You can also set to User Defined and manually adjust
the Session, Algorithm and Q value yourself.
(Default: User Defined)
Session The Session setting of your RS804.
(Default: 0)
Algorithm The Algorithm setting of your RS804.
(Default: Fixed Q)
Q Value The Q Value of your RS804.
(Default: 5)
Target Set the Target value of your RS804.
(Default: A)
StateAware Set the StateAware setting on your RS804.
(Default: SL)
Toggle Target Set whether you are to enable toggle target on your RS804.
(Default: True)
Filter
Tags Matching When performing inventory, you can filter to include or exclude
one tag you are interested or not interested in. The Inventory
List will only show the filter you specify if you set to Inclusive or
Exclusive.

Enter one EPC name in the text field you want to filter.
(Default: Disable)
Tags with RSSI between When performing inventory, you can filter to only include or
exclude the tags RSSI values between two RSSI values. The
Inventory List will only show the filter you specify if you set to
Inclusive or Exclusive.
Enter the RSSI lower bound and higher bound values in the
text fields.
(Default: Disable)
Start Reading
Start is pressed Set the Inventory Auto Start trigger to when the Start button is
pressed on the Inventory Page. This is the default behavior of
RFID Utility.
(Default: Start is pressed)
GPI goes If you wish to change the InventoryAuto Start trigger to when
one of the GPI pin goes High or Low, then you can select the
GPI pin number and the High/Low criteria. Inventory will auto
start when the GPI pin meets your criteria.
Stop Reading
Stop is pressed Set the Inventory Auto Stop trigger to when the Stop button is
pressed on the Inventory Page. This is the default behavior of
RFID Utility.
(Default: Stop is pressed)
Tags If you wish to have RFID Utility automatically stops an
Inventory session when the specified number of unique tags
are read, you can select this option and enter a number in the
text field.
Reads If you wish to have RFID Utility automatically stops an
Inventory session when the total number of tag reads on all
enabled antennas are reached, you can select this option and
enter a number in the text field.
Seconds If you wish to have RFID Utility automatically stops an
Inventory session when the number of seconds is reached,
you can select this option and enter a number in the text field.
Rounds If you wish to have RFID Utility automatically stops an
