BychoosingtheUnitedParachuteTechnologiesVector3,you’veshownthatyou’llsettlefornothinglessthanthebest.
THE HISTORY BEHIND UNITED PARACHUTE TECHNOLOGIES(formerlyRelativeWorkshop)
Overthepastthreedecades,UnitedParachuteTechnologieshasdeliveredmorethan50,000qualityharnessand
containersystemstoskydiversallovertheworld!
In1972,BillBoothstartedRelativeWorkshop(nowUnitedParachuteTechnologies)inaMiamigarage.Duringthelate
1970’sBillmadetwomajorcontributionstotheworldofskydiving.First,Billinventedandpatentedthehanddeploy
pilotchutesystem.Thiscontributionchangedthesportforever.BillBooth’ssecondandmaybegreatestcontribution
andrecognitionduringthisperiodcamewiththeinventionandpatentoftheBooth3‐Ringreleasesystem.In1983,Bill
receivedtheprestigiousParachuteIndustryAssociation(PIA)AchievementAward.TheFederationAeronautic
International(FAI)awardedBillBooththe1984GoldMedalforoutstandingachievementinparachutesafetydesign,
thehighestawardavailableinthisfield.
RelativeWorkshop’sfirstharnessandcontainersystemwascalledtheWonderhog.Thisrigincorporatedallthebest
safetyimprovementsofitsera.Notlongthereafter,theWonderhogSprintwasintroduced.In1981,theVectorwas
introducedandsoonbecamethemostpopularrigintheworld.TheVectorIIfollowedandsoonenjoyedevenmore
popularity.Since1977,teamsandindividualshavebeenwinninggoldmedalswearingRelativeWorkshopsystems!The
U.S.SkydivingTeamatthe1981WorldMeetworetheveryfirstVectors.
Inthelate1980sandearly1990s,newfreefalldisciplinessuchasSkysurfingandFreestylemadetheirwayintothe
skydivingmainstream.Freeflyingenteredthemainstreamshortlythereafter.Thesenewdisciplinesbroughtwiththem
newandincreaseddemandsonskydivingequipment.Intheseflightattitudes,thecontainerissubjectedtodirect,
high‐speedairflow.Theneedformoresecuritysuchasriserprotection,pinprotectionandbridleprotectionbecame
apparent.Hence,ourengineerswenttowork.
VECTOR3
In1994,RelativeWorkshopunveiledtheVector3harnessandcontainersystem.Thisnewdesignincorporated
conceptsthatoriginatedthroughyearsofresearchanddevelopment.
In1999,usingthelatesttechnologyandtheknowledgeRelativeWorkshopgainedinbuildingtheVector3,theMicron
wasintroducedtosuitthegrowingtrendofsmallercanopyuse.TheMicronisthemosttechnicallyadvancedharness
andcontainersystemintheworld.RelativeWorkshopachievedthisbyhiringateamofengineersfromthearenaof
sportskydiving.Theseengineers,whohappentobeworld‐classcompetitiveskydivers,reviewedcurrentsystem
designsandappliedsoundengineeringpracticestothem.Theresult:improvedoverallfunctionoftheVector3riser
covers,greaterpinprotection,betteroverallcomfortoftherigandtheimprovementtotheoperationoftheBooth3‐
ringreleasesystem.Consistentinnovatorsandperfectionists,RelativeWorkshop’sengineerscontinuetomake
improvementstotheproductionanddesignofproducts.Thisdeterminationtomakethemostcomfortableandsafest
skydivingsystemsintheworldhasresultedinyetanotherupdatetotheclassicVector3.InFebruaryof2002,the

Vector3M‐Serieswassuccessfullylaunched.TheM‐SeriesutilizesMicrontechnologytoimprovefunction,safetyand
comfortbutissuitedtolargercanopies.
Wecontinuetointroduceinnovativeconstructiontechniquesthatmakerigssafer,lighter,andmorecomfortable.
Manyoftheseinnovationshavebeenadoptedbytheentireskydivingindustry.

Thisisastate‐of‐the‐artharnesssystemthatcontoursthejumper’sbodyforaglove‐likefit,whileallowingmaximum
comfortandfreedomofmovement.TheharnessisconstructedofType7andType8Mil‐Specwebbing.
Yoke
Thecontouredyokebringstheharnessovertheshouldersandcurvesinwardoverthechest,whichprovidesthemost
efficientplacementoftheemergencyhandleseliminatingtheneedforchestringsandtheinherentproblems
associatedwiththem.Thisdesignalsopreventstheharnessfromslippingofftheshoulders,shouldyouhavenarrow
shoulders.
ChestStrap
OurdoubleType8cheststrapisdesignedtoprovidethemaximuminupperharnessprotectionwhilecomplimenting
thecontouredyokeandprotectingthecablehousings.
BackPad
ThisisthefoundationofthePro‐FitHarness.Itallowsmaximumupperbodymobilitywithoutcompromisingtotalbody
fit.
HousingGuides
Ourguidesprovideacleanchannelforthehousingstofloatupwardduringhighloadsituations.Theseguidesalso
makeitverydifficulttomisroutethecutawaycables.

Ourflexiblehousingsarethefirststepinpreventinghardpullsduringcutaways.Theupwardfloatallowanceprovided
bythesehousingssignificantlyreducesthelikelihoodofnearimpossiblecutaways.Withoutupwardfloat,premature
loadingoftheriserloopisalmostacertainty.Thiswouldleadtotheyellowcutawaycablebeingpulledupandthrough
thehousingendbytheloop.
ExternalRiserCovers
TheseMagneticrisercoversutilizethemostsuccessfulpocketdesignonthemarket.Yearsofextensiveresearchand
development(andthousandsofjumps)withBabylon,Synopsis,Voltaireandourin‐housetestjumpersresultedinthis
superiordesign.Itistheultimateinriserprotection.
SecondaryRiserCover
Eveninthehighlyunlikelyeventofanexternalcoveropeningduringfreefall,thesecondaryrisercovermakesit
virtuallyimpossibleforariserortoggletoescapeuntilthemainpinispulled.TheVector3istheonlyrigonthemarket
toofferthislevelofriser/togglesecurity.
MainPinProtection
Themainpincoverflapisintegratedintothe#1closingflapandtucksupwardsintoitselfformaximumprotection
againstexternalforces.Similar“tuck‐up”systemsarenowbeingimplementedinrigsaroundtheworld.Boththemain
andreservepincoversaredesignedtoconformbettertothecontainer.Thisergonomicdesignhelpseliminate
protrudingcornersoredgesthatcancatchondoorjambs,bulkheadsorothersuchobjects.
ReservePinProtection
Thereservecoverflaputilizesthreetucktabstoremainvirtuallyimmovable,withoutinterferingwiththereserve
activationprocess.
AbsoluteZeroBridleExposure
TheVector3,configuredforBOCorPull‐outdeployment,virtuallyeliminatesbridleexposureandtheneedforVelcro‐
typefastenersonthebridlecord.
PocketedCorners
Boththemainandreservepacktraysutilizepocketedcornersatthebottomofthetray.Thisservestoensure
optimumbagpositioningduringdeployment,helpingtoprotectagainstbagtumbleorspinasitleavesthecontainer.
Thecornerofthemaintrayalsoservesasapocketforthemainbridle,virtuallyeliminatingbridleexposureduring
freefall.
Tru‐LokToggles
OurnewTru‐LoktoggleeliminatestheneedforVelcrofasteners.Thisdesignutilizesastainless‐steelpintosecure

Wehaverecentlymadeseveralimportantchangestotherig,andyoushould
knowaboutthembeforeusingyourrig.
TRAINING REQUIRED
IfyouhavenotjumpedaUnitedParachuteTechnologiesVector3before,orif
you’retransitioningfromothertypesofequipmenttoaUnitedParachute
TechnologiesVector3,makesureyoureceiveinstructiononitsusefromacertifiedinstructor.Thisinstructionshould
consistofapracticesessioninasuspendedharnessoronthegroundwhereyoupracticebothroutineandemergency
procedures.
ItistheresponsibilityoftheownertoensurethattheirVector3isproperlyassembled,properlymaintained,correctly
packedandused.Itisalsotheowner’sresponsibilitytoseekoutandobtainpropertrainingbeforeusinganyskydiving
equipmentsuchastheUnitedParachuteTechnologiesVector3.
Ensurethatthepersonwhoinspectsandpacksboththemainandreserveparachutesisqualifiedtodoso.
TheownerofaVector3shouldnotloanittoanotherpersonwithoutfirstdeterminingthatthepersonisfullycapable
ofusingitproperlyandsafely.

Ifyouobtainedyoursecond‐handVector3privately,makesureitisairworthybeforeusingit.Werecommendthat
youhavetherigthoroughlyinspectedbyyourlocalriggerbeforeyoupurchaseitoruseit.However,ifyouprefer,the
UnitedParachuteTechnologieswillinspectyoursecond‐handVectorforanominalservicefee.
UnitedParachuteTechnologiesdoesnotrecommendpurchasingreplacementpartsfromasourceotherthanaUnited

ATTACHING THE RESERVE CANOPY TO THE RESERVE
RISERS
Attachthecanopytotherisersfollowingthecanopymanufacturer’sinstructions.
Double‐checktheorientationofthecanopyandthecontinuityofthelines.Check
thatthelinksaretightenedsecurelyandcorrectly.Followthecanopy
manufacturer’sinstructionsoninstallationofSliderBumpersandSlinks(SoftLinks.
ATTACHING THE RESERVE STEERING TOGGLES
Itisimportanttofollowthereservecanopyowner’smanualdirectionsbefore
attachingthetogglestothesteeringlines.Thereserveowner’smanualcontains
importantinformationrelevanttothatparticularmakeandmodelofreserve
canopy.ThereservecanopysteeringtogglesaresuppliedwiththeVector3.These
steeringtogglesarecompatiblewiththeVector3reserverisers.Itisimportanttoattachthesteeringtogglesatthe
markthatislocatedalongthesteeringline.Themarkwasmeasuredandputtherebythereservemanufacturer.
Properalignmentofthemarkandthesteeringtogglewillensurethecanopyremainsinatrueno‐brakemodewhile
thetogglesarerestingagainsttheguidering.Thiswill,inturn,ensurethatthecanopymaintainsthecorrectglide
duringflightandlanding

WARNING
Ifthetogglesaremountedtoofardownthe
steeringlines,thecanopymaybeless
responsiveandthejumpermaynotbeableto
applyfullbrakes.
Ifthetogglesaremountedtoohighupthe
canopy,theglideandlandingcharacteristics
ofthecanopymaybeaffectedoritmayeven
resultinacanopystall(whichcouldresultin
injuryordeath).
Thesituationsmentionedabovearemore
likelytooccurwhenacanopyishastily
switchedfromonesetofriserstoanother.If
theguideringsonbothsetsofrisersarenot
locatedthesamedistancefromtheconnector
links,thesteeringtogglesmustbemovedto
anotherlocationonthesteeringline.

MethodBisforreservecanopieswithsmall‐diameterSpectra(Microline)thathaveafinger‐trappedandsewn
loopends.
MethodCisforreservecanopieswithsmall‐diameterSpectra(Microline)thathaveonlyamarkforattaching
thetoggle.
METHODA—DACRONSTEERINGLINES
Oncethecanopyhasbeencorrectlyattachedtotherisersandwhileitisstilllaidonitsside,begintoattachthe
reservesteeringtogglesusingthefollowingsteps:
1.Ensurethesteeringlinesarecorrectlyrouted(i.e.theyshouldnotwraparoundanysuspensionlines).Thisis
accomplishedbystartingatthetailofthecanopy.Tracetheuppersteeringlinesdowntothelowersteeringline.
Checkthattherighthandsteeringlinepassesthroughtherighthandrearslidergrommetandthelefthandsteering
linepassesthroughthelefthandrearslidergrommet.
2.Locatethemarkonthesteeringlinethatindicatesthecorrecttogglelocation.Verifythecorrectlocationofthis
markbyreferringtothereservecanopyowner’smanual.
3.Threadthesteeringlinethroughtheguideringthatislocatedontheriser.
4.Startingfromthehookandloopfastener(loop
side),threadtheendofthesteeringlinethrough
theVector3steeringtogglegrommet.Adjustthe
steeringlinesothatthemark(onthesteering
line)isclosetothegrommetbuthasnotpassedthroughit.
5.Looptherunningendofthesteeringlinearoundthetoggleandthreaditthroughthegrommetagain.Nowpullit
snug.Checkthatthemarkremainsinthecorrectplace.
6.Continuebyloopingtherunningendofthe
steeringlinearoundtheothersideofthetoggle
and,onceagain,passitthroughthegrommet.

7.Nowgraspthesteeringlineonbothsidesof
thetoggleandpullittight,ensuringthehookand
loopfastenersideofthetogglefacesthecanopy.
Thesteeringlinedoesafigure8throughthe
grommetandexitsontheothersideofthe
toggle.Onceagain,checkthemarkonthe
steeringline,ensuringitisstillinthecorrect
place.
8.Tieanoverhandknotinthefreeendofthe
steeringlineandtightenitrightdowntothe
toggle.Ensureitissnugfornow.
9.Checkthecanopywiththedeploymentbrakes
setandwithbothnotsettobesurethatitis
correctlyconfigured.Thereservecanopy
owner’smanualcontainsthecorrectbrake
settingsandsteeringlinelengths.Keepinmind
thatthereareNOstandardizeddimensions.
Therefore,unlessthelinesarethecorrect
length,thecanopymaynotopenorflycorrectly
10.Verifythatthebrakesettingmeasurementsarecorrect.Tightentheoverhandknotatthetoggleoncemore.Itis
generallynotagoodideatocutofftheexcesssteeringline,asyoumaywanttoadjustthesteeringtogglesafterthe
canopyhasbeenjumped.
11.Repeattheprocedurefortheothertoggle.
12.Inspecttheinstallation.Ensureproperroutingofthesteeringlines.

frommarkasshown.Thiswillensurethatthe
finger‐trapislockedintheknot.
5.Formafinger‐trappedloop2”fromthe
manufacturersmarktotheendasshown.
6.Tieandadjustanoverhandknotuntilthe
markisjusttotheoutside.Theloopshouldfit
closelyaroundthetoggle.Tightentheknot.
