1.1. Intended use
The HumanCharger® is intended to alleviate
the typical symptoms of jet lag experienced
subjecvely by adult travelers, and typical
symptoms of winter blues caused by lack of
sunlight experienced subjecvely by adult
users.

Before the rst use, select the ear piece ngs
(C) that best match your ears and put them on
the LEDSet (B). Connect the LEDSet connector
(E) to the main unit (A). Place the LEDSet
carefully in your ears.
Start the session by briey pressing the power
buon (D). HumanCharger® switches itself o
when the session is complete. You can follow
the session from progress ring (G). Recharge
the main unit when the baery indicator (F)
ashes or when the device will no longer switch
on.
HumanCharger® will not switch on if the
LEDSet is disconnected. HumanCharger® can
be charged with many mobile phone chargers
or smartphone micro-USB chargers or from a
computer’s USB port.
The baery-indicator (F) cycle on and o when
charging and remain on when the baery is full
charged. One charge is enough for more than
10 sessions. Remember to clean the earbuds
regularly.

2. Use of the device
The HumanCharger® device emits UV-free blue-
enriched white light through the ear canals to
the light-sensive regions of the brain. Follow
the instrucons below to prepare your device
for use.
2.1. When To Use Humancharger®
Health and well-being
Invented in Finland, HumanCharger® is a light
therapy device that sends a UV-free blue-
enriched white light through LEDSet to the
light-sensive regions of the brain - just where
it is needed the most!
HumanCharger® benets are:
Increased mental alertness•
Improved mood•
Increased energy levels•
Use HumanCharger® to gain those benets on a
regular basis in the morning once a day within
two hours of waking up at the same me each
day. Recommended me is 12 minutes.
Winter Blues
The winter blues is a mild version of Seasonal
Aecve Disorder caused by lack of ambient
light. To alleviate typical symptoms of winter
blues, such as irritability, loss of interest in
acvies you usually nd enjoyable, feeling of
worthlessness or hopelessness, oversleeping,
loss of energy, social withdrawal, decreased

physical acvity, fague, cravings for foods that
are high in carbohydrates, and weight gain, use
the HumanCharger® as usual on a regular basis
in the morning once a day within two hours of
waking up at the same me each day.
If your seasonal mood swings are more severe,
or you are suering from depression, or if you
are currently on medicaon for depression,
consult your physician and use light therapy
only under supervision.
Jet lag recovery
When you travel cross several me zones,
you are likely to experience some jet lag.
HumanCharger® is perfect for accelerang
your recovery from the unpleasant symptoms
of jet lag. If your ight is eastward, use
HumanCharger® rst thing in the morning and
early aernoon, four mes during the day at
2-hour intervals (for example at 8 am, 10 am,
12 noon, and 2 pm local me). Repeat each
day unl you feel recovered. For a westward
ight, use HumanCharger® from late aernoon
to evening, four mes a day at 2-hour intervals
(for example at 3 pm, 5 pm, 7 pm, and 9 pm
local me). Repeat each day unl you feel
recovered. It is not recommended to take more
than four 12 minute HumanCharger® sessions
per day.

Shi worker energy boost
If you need to extend your day or wake up
parcularly early, use HumanCharger® every
two hours during the me you feel most red.
It is not recommended to take more than four
12 minute HumanCharger® sessions per day.
2.2. Adjustment Of The Light Sengs
On rst use, the session starts with the default
bright light sengs (12 minutes). If you feel
that the intensity is disturbing adjust the light
sengs:
Turn o the device.1.
Press the power buon for three seconds 2.
to reduce the length of the session by
three minutes and the intensity of the
bright light by 25%. For further reducon,
keep holding down the power buon.
The device saves your new sengs to
the LEDSet.

If you want to return to the default 3.
seng, keep holding the power buon
unl 12 minute seng is restored.
2.3. Safety informaon
IMPORTANT NOTE: Use the device only
as instructed by Valkee, to avoid potenal
personal injury or damage to the device. Read
all warnings and cauons before using the
device.
The device has CE Class II(a) medical device
cercaon and has been clinically tested. The
device meets the requirements of the Medical
Device Direcve 93/42/EEC.

Contraindicaons
The device is not intended for children or for
use during pregnancy.
The device may not be suitable for individuals
who suer from bipolar disorder. Side eects of
use of the device are rare when the instrucons
for appropriate use are followed. The most
common side eects are temporary headache,
restlessness, and decreased quality of sleep
during the early morning hours.
Warnings
Consult your physician and have your current
medicaon reviewed before using the device, if:
You have low blood pressure •
(hypotension)
You have an ear infecon•
You suer from, or have suered from, •
diagnosed depression
You have bipolar disorder•
You are hypersensive to light (e.g. •
because of epilepsy)
You are using psychotropic drugs (e.g., •
andepressants or neurolepcs)
Do not use the device while performing tasks
that require unrestricted hearing, to avoid
hazards due to restricon in hearing capability
caused by the earbuds.
Do not look directly into the light-eming
earbuds, to avoid eye irritaon or damage.
Do not use excessive force to insert the

earbuds, to avoid damaging your ear canals.
Keep the device and its parts out of the reach
of children. The small parts could present a
choking hazard.
If the device becomes damaged or degraded
in any way or does not work, do not operate it.
Contact Valkee for service assistance.
Do not share earbuds to avoid personal hygiene
risks.
Do not overuse the device. This helps avoid
nausea, headache and sleep disturbances.
Clinical data are available only on the
recommended dosing.
Make sure that neither the device nor any of
its cables can catch on anything when you are
using the device, to eliminate the possibility of
strangulaon.
The device contains an integrated,
rechargeable lithium-ion baery. Do not
incinerate, disassemble, or expose to extreme
temperatures, because the baery could
overheat, causing re or bursng.
No modicaon of this device is allowed.

Cauons
For safe operaon, keep the device away from
water. If liquid has somehow entered the
system or its parts, immediately stop using
the device and contact Valkee for service

Temperature of the LED may rise to up to

the ears. If sensaon becomes uncomfortable,
disconnue use of the device.

2.4. Charging
It is recommended to use the medical grade
charger sold by Valkee. HumanCharger®can also
be charged with many mobile-phone chargers
or smartphone micro-USB chargers or from a
computer’s USB port.
Charge your device when the boom-most
indicator light is ashing. The baery-indicator
lights cycle on and o when charging and
remain on when the baery is full. Charging
takes max. 3h.
If you have a problem with charging, see the
‘Troubleshoong’ secon.

2.5.Troubleshoong
Error condion
The device gives an error signal (four beeps and
four ashes of the indicator lights) if the LEDSet
is disconnected or broken. Make sure that the
LEDSet is properly connected to the main unit,
and/or that the LEDSet earbuds and LEDSet
wires are not broken. If the error persists,
contact Valkee.
2.6.Maintenance and service
See ‘Technical Informaon’ for appropriate
environments for operaon, transportaon and
storage.
Cleaning
The device is intended for personal use only.
Clean the earbuds and earbud ngs between
uses with a non-abrasive, dry cleaning cloth.
Never use abrasive cleaning agents or strong
detergents to clean the device, and do not rinse
it with water.
Storage
Store the device between uses or during
potenal idle periods in a protecve case or
bag in a dry locaon. Remove the LEDSet from
the main unit aer use, before storing.

any warranty, service or support issues.

3. Disposal
This is an electronic device containing a lithium-
ion baery as an internal power source. Do not
throw away the device with normal household
waste at the end of its life. Consider the
environment: deliver the device for recycling
at an ocial collecon point for electronic
devices. Check with the appropriate recycling
organizaon for local disposal informaon.

4. Warranty And Legal
Informaon
The limited HumanCharger® warranty period of
one year starts on the date of purchase.
Valkee is responsible for the device being
suitable for its purpose of use and remaining
usable throughout the warranty period.
The warranty covers any material, design,
and manufacturing defects that manifest
themselves during the warranty period. This
limited warranty does not cover:
Normal wear and tear of the device or its •
components
Cosmec changes in the device•
Faults or damage caused by use or •
handling of the device in a manner that
is incorrect, inappropriate, or counter to
the operaon and service instrucons
Faults or damage caused by the customer, •
for example, from opening the device or
repairing, adjusng, or modifying it
- Faults or damage caused by factors that •
Valkee cannot reasonably be expected to
have control over
Faults must be reported within reasonable me
from their detecon. When reporng a fault,
you must present a cercate of warranty, a
receipt of purchase, or another reliable account
of where and when the product was purchased.
Valkee or an authorised Valkee service point
may choose to repair the fault or provide a
replacement device. Opening, modifying or

repairing the device at an unauthorised service
point voids this limited warranty. This limited
warranty does not restrict applicaon of any
consumer-protecon legislaon in force.
Valkee liability is always limited to the purchase
price of the device at maximum. Under no
circumstances is Valkee liable for compensaon
for any incidental, indirect, or consequenal
damages unless legislave requirements
impose an obligaon of such compensaon.
