Safety Information
2. Safety Information
FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY. When using the
vacuum cleaner, basic safety precautions should
always be observed, including the following:
1. Only use the vacuum cleaner indoors on dry
surfaces.
2. Turn off the vacuum cleaner controls before
connecting to or disconnecting from the mains
supply.
3. Always unplug the vacuum cleaner before
connecting or disconnecting the vacuum hose.
4. Close attention is necessary when used by or near
children. Do not allow children to use as a toy.
5. Use only as described in this manual. Use only the
manufacturer’s recommended attachments.
6. Do not use the vacuum cleaner if it has been
dropped, damaged, left outdoors or dropped into
water. Do not use the vacuum cleaner with a
damaged cord or plug. If the supply cord or plug is
damaged, return the vacuum cleaner to a Vax
Authorised Service Agent or suitably qualified
person for examination, repair or adjustment.
7. Do not pull or carry by the cord. Do not use the
cord as a handle, close a door on the cord or pull
the cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not
run the vacuum cleaner over the cord. Keep the
cord away from heated surfaces.
8. Do not handle the plug or vacuum cleaner with
wet hands. Do not use outdoors or on wet
surfaces.
9. Do not put any objects into openings. Do not
use with any openings blocked and do not restrict
air flow. Keep all openings free of dust, lint, hair or
anything that may reduce airflow.
10.Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers and all parts of
the body away from openings and moving parts.
11.Do not pick up hot coals, cigarette butts,
matches or any hot, smoking or burning objects.
12.Do not pick up flammable or combustible
materials (lighter fluid, petrol, kerosene, etc) or use
in the presence of explosive liquids or vapours.
13.Do not vacuum up harmful or toxic material
(chlorine bleach, ammonia, drain cleaner, etc).
14.Do not vacuum up hard or sharp objects such
as glass, nails, screws, coins, etc.
15.Do not use without the filters in place.
16.Take extra care when vacuuming on stairs.
17.Keep vacuuming area well lit.
18.Store the vacuum cleaner indoors in a cool, dry
area.
19.Turn off the switch before unplugging.
20.Use only CE-approved 13 amp extension cords.
Non-approved extension cords may overheat. Care
should be taken to arrange the cord so that the
cord cannot be pulled or tripped over.
WARNING: Always switch off and unplug the
vacuum cleaner from the electrical outlet before
assembling, opening or emptying the dust bag, or
before connecting/disconnecting the attachments.
CAUTION: The vacuum cleaner is a very powerful
unit. Before plugging the cord into the outlet make
surethe switch is in the ‘off’ position. Hold the
vacuum cleaner firmly when starting and in use.
IMPORTANT: If the inlet or hose is blocked, switch
off the vacuum cleaner and remove the blockage(s)
before re-starting the vacuum cleaner.
IMPORTANT: Changing the dust bag and filters
regularly improves vacuum performance.
This vacuum cleaner is intended for household use
only and not for commercial or industrial use.
PLEASE KEEP THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR
FURTHER USE.
Motor Thermostat
IMPORTANT: The motor is equipped with a
thermal cut-out. If for any reason, the vacuum
cleaner should over-heat, the thermostat will
automatically turn the unit off. Should this occur,
unplug the vacuum vacuum cleaner from the
electrical outlet and turn off the switch. Remove
the dirtcontainer and empty.Clean the filters.
Allow the vacuum cleaner to cool for
approximately one (1) hour. To re-start, plug into
an electrical outlet and switch back on.

3. How to Assemble
1. Slide the back panel onto base.
To secure, insert two screws into the back of the
back panel. (Fig 3/1)
2. Handle (back) and TurboTool caddy (front)
assembly.Place upper handle onto top of vacuum
cleaner (Fig 3/2).Push TurboTool caddy onto the
front of vacuum cleaner.Insertthe two screws into
the back of the handle and tighten, making surethe
handle is secure.
3. Secure back hose, wrap hose around back of
hose caddy (Fig 3/3). Push hose wand down into the
right side of vacuum cleaner (Fig 3/3). Set aligning
tab on bottom of dust container into rectangular slot
on vacuum cleaner (Fig 3/3). Rotate dust container
into vacuum cleaner and push to fit into place (Fig
3/3a).
4. Wrap the hose around the back of hose caddy
(Fig 3/3). Push the hose tube down into the right
hand side of the vacuum cleaner (Fig 3/3). Set
aligning tab on button of dust container into
rectangular slot on vacuum cleaner (Fig 3/3). Rotate
dust container into vacuum cleaner and push to fit
into place (Fig 3/3a).
5. To attach the accessories, slide the dusting brush
(A) into the hole on the tool caddy with bristles facing
out (Fig 3/4). Slide the extension tube (B) and crevice
tool (C) (stored inside the extension tube) through the
ring on the front right side of the tool caddy. Clip the
TurboTool (D) onto the TurboTool caddy (Fig 3/4)
4. How to operate
WARNING: FULLY ASSEMBLE BEFORE
OPERATING.
1. Turnthe Quick CordRelease for easy cord
removal (Fig 4/1).
2. Turnthe carpet height adjust dial to match the
surface being cleaned (Fig 4/1).
IMPORTANT: FOR EASIEST ADJUSTMENT,
PLACE VACUUM CLEANER IN THE FULL
UPRIGHT POSITION.
3. Plug the cord into electrical outlet. Turn vacuum
cleaner on by depressing foot pedal located on the
back left side of the vacuum cleaner. To release
handle, push the handle release pedal located on
the lower left side of the vacuum cleaner.Move the
handle and adjust it to the desired position for (a)
operating the vacuum cleaner,and (b) lowering
handle to clean under furniture.
NOTE: Rotating brush could cause area rug
fringe to become tangled within vacuum
cleaner.Use caution when vacuuming throw
rugs with fringe.

4. The vacuum cleaner must be in its upright
position to raise brushbar. Remove the hose from
the tool caddy. Choose any of the accessories or
use the hose alone. Simply push the attachment
firmly onto the end of the tube or hose handle. To
remove the tool, twist and pull apart gently (Fig 4/2).
5. If additional length is needed, use the extension
tube and crevice tool. Pull crevice tool out of
extension tube and fit on to the end of the
extension tube. Use extension tube and crevice
tool together or separately (Fig 4/3).
6. Use the carry handle on the dust container to move
the vacuum cleaner from room to room (Fig 4/3).
NOTE: Ensure dust container is secured in
place before lifting the vacuum cleaner.

Removal & Replacement
WARNING: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY
FROM MOVING PARTS - UNPLUG BEFORE
SERVICING.
NOTE: Unplug vacuum cleaner beforechanging
filter.
NOTE: Rinse foam filter once everymonth. If
vacuum is used frequently, the filter may require
more frequent cleaning.
NOTE: For best performance, replace pleated
filter yearly.
1. Press dustcontainer release button on front of
vacuum cleaner to remove the dust container.Hold
dust container over dustbin and press the quick
release button to empty.Snap dust container
bottom back into place after emptying (Fig 5/1).
2. Twist and lift to remove dust container (Fig 5/1).
Tap the lid on the inside of a dustbin to remove
excess dust from the filter.
IMPORTANT: Do not rinse the filter with water.
Remove the foam filter from the dust container.
Hold filter under running water to wash. Ring
excess water and allow to dry for at least 24
hours before replacing and using the vacuum
cleaner (Fig 5/2).
3. To replace foam filter return filter to dust container
by placing on top of screen inside dust container.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT RETURN FILTER TO THE
DUST CONTAINER BEFORE IT HAS COMPLETELY
DRIED.
Hold the dust container lid and grasp the filter tab.
Pull away from lid.
4. Return the filter to the dust container lid. Push
filter into place until it snaps to prevent leakage.
Align tabs on lid with the openings on the dust
container and twist to close and securelid. Return
dust container to vacuum cleaner.Align slot on
bottom of dust container with tab on vacuum
cleaner. Push to snap into place (Fig 5/3).

6.Belt or Brush Removal and
Replacement
1. Lay vacuum cleaner flat and turn over to
expose nozzle base. Base should lay flat and face
up. To remove nozzle guard, use Phillips
screwdriver to remove the three screws. Arrows
show location of screws. Rotate/pivot the nozzle
guard and pull off. Lift and remove brushbar.
Dispose of old belt (Fig 6/1).
2. To replace belt or brushbar, slide belt onto
motorshaft. Place new belt in area of brushbar
without bristles (Fig 6/2).
3. With new belt in place, pull and slide brushbar
into nozzle making sure that the brushbar caps
arein the correct orientation (Fig 6/3a). Rotate
brushbar manually to make sure belt is properly
aligned. Secure by aligning the four tabs in the
base slots. To re-attach nozzle guard, rotate/pivot
back into position. Replace all three screws to
secure nozzle guard.
8.TurboTool: Clearing Blockages
Rotate locking ring 180˚ and turn TurboTool over.
Pivot lower housing and remove clog. To
reassemble, be sure tabs are engaged. Pivot the
lower housing closed. (Fig 8/1).

PROBLEM: Vacuum cleaner won’t run
CCaauussee::Not properly plugged into outlet.
Solution: Plug unit in firmly.
CCaauussee::Blown fuse/tripped breaker.
Solution: Reset circuit breaker or replace fuse.
CCaauussee::Needs service.
Solution: Take to service centre. To find nearest location, visit our website at www.vax.co.uk or call 0870 6061248
PROBLEM: Vacuum cleaner won't pick up/loss of suction
CCaauussee::Dust container not installed correctly.
Solution: Review dust bag removal and replacement.
CCaauussee::Dust container full or blocked.
Solution: Empty dust container.
CCaauussee::Brushbar worn.
Solution: Replace brushbar.
CCaauussee::Broken or worn belt.
Solution: Replace belt.
CCaauussee::Clogged filter.
Solution: Remove filter and clean.
CCaauussee::Nozzle/dust passage hose clogged.
Solution: Check lower hose for obstruction and remove obstruction.
CCaauussee::Carpet height setting is incorrect.
Solution: Set carpet height adjust dial to appropriate setting for carpet being cleaned.
PROBLEM: Dust escaping from the vacuum cleaner
CCaauussee::Dust container full.
Solution: Empty dust container.

Solution: Review dust container removal.
