OperatingModes
Thedevicedisplayscurrentspeedonthelowerdisplayandheadingindegreesontheupperdisplay.In
BasicfirmwaretheSC1modescannotbechangedforeitherdisplay.Modescanbeeditedandmore
modes,VMG,tacticalcompass,timerandstartline,areavailableintheFullfirmware.RefertotheFull
firmwaremanualformoreinformation.Thefirmwareonthedevicecanbeupdatedbyconnectingthe
SC‐1tothePC.
Thebelowfiguresshowsspeedof16.9knotsandcompassheadingof69degrees:
SpeedometerMode
InSpeedometermodethedisplaywillshowyourcurrentspeedupdatedat2Hz(twiceasecond).The
speedcanbedisplayedinknots,miles/hour,kilometers/hourormeter/secondbyeditingthedevice
settings.Thedefaultistodisplayspeedinknots.
CompassMode
Incompassmode,thedevicedisplayseithertrueormagneticheadingatanupdaterateof2Hz(twicea
second).Trueheadingisthedirectionyouaremovingreferencedtotruenorth.Magneticheadingis
thedegreesyouareheadinginreferencetothelocalmagneticnorth.Whenusingamagneticcompass
inconjunctionwiththeSC‐1,settingthecompassdeclinationtothelocaldeclinationisusefulsinceboth
instrumentswillbereferencedtomagneticnorth.Bydefaultthecompassdisplaystrueheading,to
displaymagneticheadingthelocalmagneticdeclinationmustbedefinedindevicesettings.
TheSC‐1displaysheadingonlywhenyourspeedisgreaterthan1knot,otherwiseitwillshowaheading
of0degreesregardlessofwhichdirectionyouareactuallymoving.
ThedifferenceoftheSC‐1toaconventionalmagneticcompassisthattheSC‐1measuresthedirection
thedeviceismovinginratherthanthedirectionitispointedin.
AmajorbenefitoftheSC‐1overaconventionalmagneticcompassisthatitwillgiveyouaccurate
headinginformation,regardlessoftheorientationinwhichitismountedonyourboat.SC‐1'scompass
readingdependsonlyonthedirectionyouaremoving,notthedirectionthedeviceispointing.
