PREFACE
First, we want to thank you for putting your trust in us by selecting one of our wheelchairs.
The electric wheelchairs supplied by Vermeiren are the result of studies and experience over many
years. During the development, simplicity of operation and servicing was especially emphasised.
However, the expected working life of your vehicle depends essentially on your careful maintenance.
This instruction manual will help you to get acquainted with the operation of your wheelchair and
advise you about keeping your electric wheelchair in a good operational condition to ensure a long
working life.
This instruction manual reflects the latest level of development of the product. However, our firm,
Vermeiren, reserves the right to introduce changes without any obligation to adapt or replace
previously delivered models.
Kindly keep in mind that your wheelchair will be in an excellent working condition and function
perfectly even after many years, if you follow our advice.
For any further questions, please consult your specialist dealer.

GENERAL NOTES
The ASCEND electric wheelchair is equipped with two motors of 300 Watt each. The ASCEND is
designed for outdoor use, but it can also be used indoors because of its manoeuvrability and compact
construction.
When using your electric wheelchair on streets or footpaths, you must obey the existing legal
prescriptions.
The electronics must be switched off immediately after use. Use only the supplied battery charger and
no other charging equipment.
We wish to point out that electromagnetic sources (e.g. "cell phone", etc.) can cause interference and
that the electronics of the wheelchair can affect other electric appliances.
Even if you have been instructed by your specialist dealer about the operational elements of your
electric wheelchair and their use, we recommend that you should read the following pages carefully.
APPLICABILITY
The many types of equipment and accessories as well as the modular construction allow full use by
persons disabled by
•Paralysis
•Loss of limbs (leg amputation)
•Limb defects / deformation
•Stiff or damaged joints
•Illnesses like heart insufficiencies and poor circulation, balance disturbances or "cachexiae", and
aged persons.
When providing for individual requirements

Guarantees can only be met when the product is used under the prescribed conditions and for
the intended purposes.

THE OPERATING ELEMENTS
The electric wheelchair is delivered fully assembled. Only the footrests have to be fixed (see the
relevant description).
Your specialist dealer delivers the wheelchair fully assembled and informs you about the various
operating elements and their use. For your own safety, we once more provide a detailed explanation
of the various structural parts.
STEERING
The steering and control unit built into your electric wheelchair enables you to control all the driving,
steering and braking processes of the vehicle. The electrical installation as well as the electronics of
the wheelchair are constantly monitored internally. Any fault in the electronics is indicated on the
steering unit and, if necessary, the wheelchair is switched off for reasons of safety (see the chapter on
fault analysis). Consult your specialist dealer when this happens.
The ASCEND model can be fitted with equipment that can electrically adjust the inclination of the seat
and the backrest, as well as the height of the seat and the angle off the legrests.
Before using the steering unit for the first time, read this chapter attentively.
To turn the power on press the on/off button (4). The current battery charge will be indicated and the
System Status LED will illuminate. Press the on/off button again to turn the power off. To turn the right
indicator (3) on/off, press and release (‘short press’) the right indicator button. To toggle the hazard
lights on/off, press and hold (‘long press’) the right indicator button. Pressing the horn (5) button will
sound the horn for as long as the button is pressed. To turn the left indicator (2) on/off, press and
release (‘short press’) the left Indicator button. To toggle the headlights on/off, press and hold (‘long
press’) the left indicator button. Each press of the mode button (12) will increment the drive profile, up
to the maximum configured value and then back to profile 1. The current drive profile will be shown in
the 7 segment display. If you are in drive mode, a press of the ASK button (13) will navigate you to the
last used accessory function, e.g. actuator control. If you are already in accessory mode, the joystick
will allow you to navigate through the different available accessories , e.g. ECU or lighting.
To return to Driving, simply press the Mode button. This feature significantly reduces the complexity
and number of key presses to access common features.

To set the wheelchair in motion, push the joystick slowly forwards. The speed will increase when you
push the joystick further forwards. If you want to turn left or right, simply push the joystick in the
desired direction. For reversing, pull the joystick backwards from the central position.
LNote that when pressing the "ON/OFF" button, the joystick stays in the central position for at
least two seconds. It is programmed this way for technical reasons of safety to prevent
pushing the joystick at the same time as switching the wheelchair on. If both processes are
activated at the same time, the steering unit locks itself and can only become operational
again after being switched off completely.
For braking while driving, simply push the joystick to its central position. Move the joystick slowly for
gradual braking. Simply release the lever for a quick stop; the wheelchair will then stop as quickly as
possible.
LMake sure that all external plugs (battery charger and programming unit) are removed before
setting the wheelchair in motion.
LMake sure that the steering lever is in the neutral (central) position when pressing the on/off
button, otherwise the electronics will be blocked. This barrier can be lifted by switching the
steering unit off and then on again.
LAlways adapt your travelling speed to the current environmental conditions.
ADJUSTMENT OF THE STEERING UNIT
The horizontal position of the steering unit can be changed by loosening screw (1). The unit can then
be adjusted as desired, or removed. Screw (1) must be retightened properly afterwards. If screw (1) is
pulled aside, the steering unit can be turned away ( to sit closer at a table for example).
SEAT AND BACK
In the standard version your ASCEND has a seat and a backrest that can be mechanical adjusted.
MECHANICAL ADJUSTMENT OF THE BACK
For easier stowing of the electric wheelchair in a vehicle, the back can be folded down forwards (after
loosening the velcro attached seat) or backwards. Under the seat on the left-hand side you find a
blocking pin (1) which can be released by pulling it. (see pictures on next page)

MECHANICAL ADJUSTMENT OF THE SEAT DEPTH
The seat depth can be adjusted in 3 steps of 30mm. If
you want to adjust the depth of the chair you have to
remove the motor of the electrical adjustment of the back
first (if you have chose this option) so you can reach the
desired bolts. (2) Remove first these 2 bolts. When you
remove the 2 bolts at each side of the seat frame (3) you
can change the seat depth to the desired depth.
The bolts must be tightened properly afterwards.
ELECTRICAL INCLINATION OF THE SEAT
If you have selected the electrical seat inclination, your wheelchair has been equipped with this
system before delivery. To operate this, it is only necessary to switch the steering unit on. The driving
program will switch on automatically. Now you have to push the function button (13 on page 6) and
select the inclination of the seat function (8 on page 6) using the joystick by pushing it sidewards. The
control lamp indicates which function you have selected. You can adjust the slope of the seat by
pushing the joystick forwards or pulling it backwards.
For easier stowing of the electric wheelchair in a vehicle, the back can be folded forwards (after

which can be released by pulling it.
LMake sure no objects and/or persons are inside the swinging reach of the wheelchair, either in
front or at the rear, since this could cause damage and/or injury.
LFor your safety this function can only be adjusted when the wheelchair is standing still. When
this function is selected, the driving program is disabled.
ELECTRICAL ADJUSTMENT OF THE BACK
The back can be adjusted in a similar way as the seat. You only have to select the inclination of the
back function (9 on page 6) so you can tilt the back according to your wishes, by pushing or pulling the
joystick.

LMake sure no objects and/or persons are inside the swinging reach of the wheelchair at the
rear, since this could cause damage and/or injury.
LFor your safety this function can only be adjusted when all four wheels of the wheelchair are
standing still. When this function is selected, the driving program is disabled.
LMake sure you do not set the backrest too far over backwards, since this can displace the
centre of gravity too far to the back and cause tipping over.
LFor your own safety you should not drive the wheelchair in an inclined or tilted position, since it
would severely limit your visibility.
ELECTRICAL LIFT CHAIR
The seat height can be adjusted in a similar way as the inclination of the seat or the adjustment of the
back . You only have to select the lift chair function (10 on page 6) so you can lift the chair according
to your wishes. You can adjust the height of the seat by pushing the joystick forwards or pulling it
backwards.
LIf you drive when the seat is lifted, the speed will be reduced by 50%. When you want to drive
at full speed be sure the seat is in the lowest position.
LNever take any obstacles or slopes when the seat is lifted, since this could cause serious
damage and/or injury.
FOOTRESTS
The basic model of your electric wheelchair is equipped with leg supports which allow your legs to lie
comfortably. You can adjust the length of the foot supports smoothly, turn them aside, or even remove
them completely. These adjustments should be carried out by a third person with the required
technical knowledge. Consult your specialist dealer if these adjustments become necessary. If you
want to carry out these adjustments yourself, you should read the following sections carefully.
When you want to remove the footrests, you only have to
lift them.(1)
To reinstall the footrests you have to put the connection
tube of the footrest into the connection tube of the seat
frame. It will search the right angle until it get fixed. You
can push the footrests downwards for a tighter fit. This is
not necessary because the weight of the legs will do this
automatically by using them.
LWhen handling the leg supports, make sure you
hold on to the upper curve to prevent your fingers from getting entangled and hurt.
Turn the footplates out of the way for climbing in or out comfortably. The footplates are designed for
resting your feet securely on them; in addition, your feet are prevented from moving sideways
unnecessarily. Use the Allen keys provided to adjust the length of the leg supports. There is an Allen

screw (2) on the rear side of the leg support for fixing the footplate. By loosening this screw, the
footplate can be adjusted to the length of the leg. It must be tightened properly afterwards.
LMake sure the footplate is at least 6 cm above the ground to avoid scraping the ground when
travelling. This could damage the wheelchair and endanger its operational safety. In addition,
the user can also be injured.
LDo not stand on the footplates; they have been designed only for resting your feet.
LWhen the leg supports are adjusted, no persons or parts should be within their reach,
otherwise there is danger of injury and/or damage.
If there are disease conditions and/or impediments which cannot guarantee your legs would rest
constantly on the leg supports, you may select other available leg supports. Kindly ask your specialist
dealer if you have queries in this regard.
ARMRESTS
The height of the armrests can be
adjusted by loosening screw (1) and
pulling the armrest upwards or pushing
it downwards.
(You only have to turn the screw 90°
and pull it)
The width of the armrests can be
adjusted by loosening screw (2) and
pulling the armrest outwards or pushing
it inwards.
(You only have to turn the screw 90°
and pull it downwards)
To release the whole armrest you have
to loosen screw (2) and pull the whole
armrest outwards.
LMake sure all fixing screws are properly tightened before using the wheelchair, otherwise
injury and/or damage can be caused.
LNever pick up the wheelchair by grasping the armrests for transportation; hold on to solid
frame parts only.
The armrest containing the steering electronics can only be detached if the electronics have been
removed previously.
LThe armrests may only be removed when the user of the wheelchair is safeguarded
against tipping out sideways.
If changes, damage, or wear of the suspension are noticeable, kindly consult your specialist dealer
who can remedy these defects.
LTo avoid endangering your safety, do not use the wheelchair when changes, damage, or wear
of the suspension are noticeable.
LIf you contemplate changes to the armrests and/or the armrest supports, it would be entirely
your own responsibility. Your guarantee claims will lapse immediately.

BATTERIES
Your electric wheelchair is equipped with 2 gel batteries with a capacity of 12V/73Ah. These batteries
are suitable for driving your electric wheelchair. Batteries used for starting powered vehicles are not
suitable for electric wheelchairs.
These batteries are closed systems and must not be topped up. The original quantity of electrolyte is
sufficient for the working life of the batteries. If the batteries lose their power after long usage, or when
they are damaged, both batteries must be replaced. Let your specialist dealer do this.
LUse only original batteries. We do not accept any liability for damage caused by using
batteries not supplied by us.
LDo not expose the batteries to temperatures below 5° Celsius or above 50° Celsius.
LIf the batteries are opened, every liability of the manufacturer is voided as well as any claim.
CHARGING THE BATTERIES
The light emitting diodes (LEDs) in the steering unit indicate the remaining capacity of your batteries.
Gel batteries
Only recharge the wheelchair when the capacity indicators on the steering unit reach the red region. If
you still drive further, eventually only the last red diode lights up and flashes continually, indicating the
batteries are nearly flat. If you disregard this warning signal, an error message appears shortly
indicating the batteries can no longer provide power for driving. The wheelchair should be charged
before this error message appears, by using the supplied battery charger. Kindly also observe the
accompanying operational instructions.
LWhen recharging in the yellow and green range, the batteries lose capacity and your
wheelchair loses travelling range after a while.
LThe manufacturer is not liable for damage caused by incorrect charging.
When you insert the three-point plug of the battery charger into the socket on the steering unit
provided for this purpose (there is a three-pole connector at the front of the steering unit, covered by a
flap), the driving functions are automatically barred. The battery charger controls the charging process
automatically. It shows when the charging process can be stopped.
If you decide not to use your electric wheelchair for a long period, you must nevertheless recharge it
regularly to keep it in a running condition ready for immediate use.
LIf you recharge gel batteries too frequently, they will eventually lose their capacity irretrievably.
LIf the batteries are not used for a long period, they discharge slowly by themselves (in-depth
discharging). It becomes impossible to recharge them with the supplied battery charger. When
batteries are not in use, they must be recharged at least every 5 to 8 weeks (depending on the
charge indicator).
LUse only the supplied battery charger and no other charging equipment.
LThe manufacturer is not liable for damage caused by improper charging.
Regular driving: (continuous daily use and consumption ÆGel batteries
at their nearly fully charged capacity) (12 V / 73 Ah)
Only charge the batteries in the "red zone".
LIn every case the charging cycle must not be interrupted. The battery charger shows when the
charging cycle has been completed. (see also the instruction manual of the battery charger.)

REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF THE BATTERIES
Kindly obey the following instructions when removing the batteries for servicing or transportation:
If your electric wheelchair has a luggage frame, you have to remove it first by loosening the four
screws at the back off the batteries. Afterwards you have to loosen the two screws of the battery
cover and remove that cover also. Now you can reach the batteries who have to get released first.
Remove the cable clamps from the poles of the batteries . Now you are able to grab the batteries and
remove them.
LMake sure the batteries are safely put down outside the wheelchair.
LBoth connectors of the batteries, one at the front and the other at the rear, must be plugged in
first, otherwise there is no connection to the electronics.
LMake sure the plugs are connected properly after replacing the batteries.
LThese activities should be undertaken by the specialist dealer.
LMake sure no tools or other conducting objects make contact with both poles of the batteries,
otherwise the resulting large electric currents can cause injury.
LNo activities regarding the batteries and the electronics should be undertaken in moist
conditions.
LWhen connecting the batteries, the circuit diagram appearing in the lid of the battery box must
be considered.
LThe manufacturer is not liable for damage/injury caused by improper handling.

BATTERY STORAGE
If you don’t use your wheelchair, you could leave it connected to the battery charger. Charging is
automatically controlled by the battery charger. If you remove and store the batteries, kindly note the
following:
•Remove the cable clamps from the poles of the battery.
•The positive pole must at least be covered by a pole cap.
•Make sure no objects can make contact with both poles during the time of storage (the danger of
short circuits!).
•Batteries should only be stored in dry, well-ventilated spaces at a temperature between 0°C and
+40°C.
•Keep the batteries under the cover for protection against damp or other external influences.
•Protect the plugs and sockets of the batteries against corrosion.
•Protect the batteries against deep discharging (see the chapter on battery charging).
If you have further questions, consult your specialist dealer who will gladly help you in regard to
storage and servicing of your batteries.
LIf batteries are not used, they can discharge fully.
TYRES
The ASCEND electric wheelchair is fitted with 3.00-8 driving wheels (standard pneumatic) and 260x85
steering wheels (standard pneumatic). Consult your specialist dealer about other wheel combinations.
He will advise you as to which combinations are suitable for your individual requirements.
LMake sure the wheels are always inflated correctly, otherwise the driving behaviour might be
affected. The correct pressures for the tyres are given in the chapter "Technical details". In
addition, you should always check the pressure values appearing on the tyres themselves.
LWe do not accept any guarantee for wheels not supplied by the manufacturer.
TYRE CHANGING
If you wish to change the tyres or tubes, please note the following:
Before you can remove a tyre, all air must be out of the tyre, and insert a tyre lever between the tyre
and the rim. Slowly and carefully push the lever downwards. In this way the tyre is pulled over the
edge of the rim. Now push the tyre lever along the rim and the tyre will slip out from the rim. Now it is
easy to remove the tyre and subsequently the tube.
LAll the air must have been let out of the tube.
LImproper handling might damage the rim. These activities should preferably be undertaken by
trained experts.
Note the following before fitting a new inner tube:
Examine the bed of the rim and the inside surface of the tyre for foreign bodies and clean them
thoroughly if necessary. Check the condition of the bed of the rim, especially around the air valve hole.
Kindly use only original replacement parts. No guarantee is accepted if damage is caused by non-
genuine replacement parts. Contact your specialist dealer.

Assembly:
Push tyre over the rim, starting behind the air valve.
Then inflate the tube slightly until it assumes its round
shape, and place it inside the tyre.
If the tube fits snugly inside the tyre without any folds
(let out some air to get rid of folds), then the upper
side of the tyre can be pushed in gently by using both
hands, again starting at the air valve.
Gently push the air valve inwards and pull it out again to ensure that the tyre is well positioned around
the air valve.
To inflate the wheel correctly, first pump only a little air in and check if the tyre can easily be pressed
in by your thumbs. If the control line on both sides of the tyre is evenly spaced from the edge of the
rim, the tyre is positioned concentrically. If not, let out the air and repeat the process.
Now you can inflate the tyre fully up to the maximum operating pressure (note the proper pressure!)
and replace the valve cap.
LCheck if no objects or body parts are caught between the tyre and the edge of the rim, since it
could cause damage or injury.
LImproper assembly voids any warranty claim.
LWhen inflating the tyres, always check if the pressure is correct. This is given on the side of
the tyre (see also "Technical details").
LUse only inflation pumps which comply with the regulations and indicate the pressure in bar.
Damage caused by using inflation equipment not supplied by the manufacturer, is not covered
by our guarantee.
PUSHING THE WHEELCHAIR
The wheelchair can be pushed by an attendant.
Push the locking lever inwards (1) and rotate it 90° to the front
(2); this allows the wheelchair to be pushed freely. Now the
wheelchair is not driven by the motors any more, neither is it
braked by the motors. When pushed, the operating equipment is
switched off, and the wheelchair can only be pushed on level
terrain. Without the braking action of the motors the occupant is
exposed to considerable danger when the wheelchair is pushed
along on a gradient. This must be avoided.

To push the wheelchair, you have to turn the push bars in
position.
First release the 2 screws (1). (You only have to turn the screw
90° and pull it)
Rotate the left push bar 90° while pulling the left screw.
Rotate the right push bar 90° while pulling the right screw.
The screws must be tightened properly afterwards.
TRANSPORTING THE WHEELCHAIR
If you want to transport your ASCEND, kindly note the following:
Before lifting the wheelchair, all moveable parts must be dismantled (footrests, armrests, and steering
unit). You could also remove the batteries to save weight.
LThe wheelchair may only be lifted by grasping solid parts of the frame.
LTo avoid damage, the steering unit and armrests should not be fixed in place during
transportation.
LWhen assembling, make sure all screws are retightened properly.
To prevent the wheelchair from moving about, kindly switch the locking mechanism to electronic
driving (lever in vertical position). If you require further belt securing systems, make sure they are only
attached to solid parts of the frame.
If you require to be moved upwards or downwards on a staircase, remove the anti-tipping guard and
tip the wheelchair slightly backwards. Now the wheelchair can be rolled forwards step by step on the
driving wheels.
After the leg supports have been removed, another person safeguards the wheelchair in front by
grasping the front wheel suspensions and walking backwards.
LAt least two helpers are required for taking steps and staircases.
LAfter removal of the footrests the legs of the occupant are not secured any more;
danger of injury!!
LSecure yourself during transportation by means of suitable safety belts (information can be
obtained from your specialist dealer).
LWhen transported, sit quietly in your wheelchair and avoid unnecessary movements.
LIf it is not possible to sit quietly when transported because of illness or your disability (e.g.
slight spasms, etc.), at least two more helpers are required to provide support on both sides by
grasping solid parts of the frame.
LMake sure your arms and legs do not protrude outside the wheelchair when you are
transported.
LWhen you are transported, no persons or objects should be located beneath the wheelchair to
prevent injury or damage.

TRANSPORTING BY CAR
Inside a vehicle, the wheelchair must be securely fastened by means of the built-in safety belts or by
specially provided belt systems. Nobody is permitted to sit in a wheelchair which is transported in a
vehicle.
LMake sure the wheelchair is only fastened by solid parts of the frame.
LCheck whether the wheelchair is secured against moving in any direction.
LCheck if the electro-magnetic brakes are engaged.
LDismantled parts of the wheelchair must be stowed in such a way that they cannot move
about.
Before transporting your wheelchair in public vehicles used for disabled persons, you should ask the
organisation concerned about the currently applicable regulations and norms to make sure that the
transportation would comply with the requirements.
For transportation in other vehicles (airplanes, buses, ships, trams, trains, etc.) you should ask the
operator concerned about the possibility of and the requirements for getting the wheelchair safely to
the intended destinations.
LWe do not accept any responsibility for damages and/or injuries caused by transportation by
third parties. Such transportation occurs at your own risk.

USING RAMPS
If you consider to take ramps for overcoming obstacles, please note the following:
For your own safety, you should drive on ramps at the slowest speed necessary.
If a helper pushes you, note that the heavy weight of the electric wheelchair increases the danger of
rolling backwards.
If your helper does not have the strength to push the wheelchair up the ramp, you must immediately
secure it by switching the locking mechanism to electronic driving.
LObey the instructions about the maximum additional load for the ramp used.
LUse and fasten a safety belt for your security.
LWe do not accept any liability for damages caused by improper selection of ramps.

ACCESSORIES
zINDIVIDUAL HEADRESTS (L58)
The standard backrest can be enhanced by an individually adjustable head support supplied by us.
This comprises a cushioned headrest which can be set in various positions by means of the 4
gearwheels.
The height of this headrest can be adjusted according to your
preference. You must first hang the headrest in the rectangular
tube (1), integrated in the cover. Then secure the headrest by
tightening the relevant screw (2). Now you can adjust the height
of the headrest.
LMake sure the headrest is inserted enough to allow a
secure fixation.
LMake sure the back of your head is supported when
sitting upright and relaxed.
LBefore using the headrest all fixing screws must be
tightened properly, otherwise injuries might be caused.
LMake sure that not too much pressure is exerted on the
side braces, since this might cause bruising.
LThe side braces may not be clapped together, since
they might break off, thus possibly causing injuries as well as being functionally useless.
If the headrest is changed structurally, no liability can be accepted.
zLEG SUPPORTS
If the leg supports supplied with the wheelchair do not meet your requirements, you could consider leg
supports with adjustable height. Because the footrest attachment is standardized, it can be assembled
in the same way as described in the section on foot supports.
If you have questions about other footrest systems, kindly consult your specialist dealer who would
gladly advise you about the indications and functions of our foot supports.
zPERSONAL SAFETY SYSTEM (B58)
For your safety, we offer you a standardized safety belt that
is equipped with a snap-on fastener, like those mounted in
cars and vans. This can be fixed by means of bolts (1)
inserted in the bolt holes on both sides of the seat frame in
the rotation point of the seat with the back . To ensure proper
fixing, self-locking nuts should be used.
If the belt has been dismantled, only new genuine nuts
provided by the manufacturer should be used for re-
attachment.
LTo retain your warranty, let your specialist dealer undertake this work.

LBefore using the seatbelt, make sure all screws are properly tightened.
If you prefer other seatbelt systems, kindly contact your specialist dealer. He would gladly assist you
further.
zANTI-TIPPING (B78)
For your safety your electric wheelchair is equipped with an anti-tipping device. Do not remove this
device (exception: see the chapter on transporting the wheelchair), otherwise your wheelchair is not
safeguarded against involuntary tipping.
ÎBefore driving off, make sure the anti-tipping device is inserted on both sides and securely
fastened.
ÎBefore every journey you should be sure the anti-tipping device is mounted correctly. The
rollers of the device should make contact with the ground when involuntary tipping occurs,
thus preventing the chair from tipping over backward
zBODY SUPPORTS (L04)
If the upper part of your body requires stronger support than
provided by the standard backrest, we offer a support system
which can be mounted on the back. To install the body support
you only have to let it slide into the bushing (1), welded on the
back frame of the wheelchair. Make sure the bolt (2) is in the
right direction to allow a good fixation.
To adjust the depth of the side support, you can loosen the bolt
(3) and set the side supports to the desired depth.
To adjust the width, you can loosen the 2 bolts (4) and modify
the angles defined by the tooth adjustments.
LMake sure all screws are properly tightened after assembly, otherwise the stability of the
supports is endangered; this may cause injury and/or damage.
LMake sure the rail system is properly mounted and nothing obstructs its functional integrity.
LIf your wheelchair is delivered unassembled, let your specialist dealer assemble it; he has
suitable tools and the required knowledge.
LImproper assembly voids any warranty claim.
LWhen the supports are fitted, you should sit quietly and naturally in your wheelchair to ensure
correct adjustment.
LMake sure no objects and/or body parts are located between the supports and the back of the
supports when these are pulled tight, otherwise bruising and/or damage might occur.

FOR YOUR SAFETY
Some safety tips are given below for your security:
LMake sure when using the driving wheels, no objects and/or body parts become entangled in
the spokes; this might cause injury and/or damage to your wheelchair.
LDo not stand on the footrests when getting into or out of the wheelchair. They should be folded
upwards beforehand, or the entire leg support must be turned outwards.
LIf you wish to investigate the effects of changing the centre of gravity on the behaviour of the
wheelchair for example on downhill or uphill gradients, sideways inclinations or when
overcoming obstacles, then do so only when you have the safe support of a helper.
LWhen trying to pick up objects (lying in front of, on the side, or behind the wheelchair), make
sure that you do not lean too far out, since the danger of tipping over is increased by the
displacement of the centre of gravity.
LOnly use your wheelchair if you have a definite destination in mind. Avoid for example driving
without brakes against an obstacle (step, edge of the curb) or driving down from ledges.
LSteps and staircases must only be taken with the aid of helpers. If devices and furnishings like
ramps or lifts are available, use them.
LCheck the profile of your tyres is sufficient.
LKindly obey the traffic regulations when driving on public roads.
LJust like other vehicles, you should never drive your wheelchair under the influence of alcohol
or other medicines or drugs. This also applies to indoor driving.
LWhen driving oudoor, adjust your behaviour to the prevailing weather and street conditions.
LCheck the rear reflectors of your wheelchair are not covered by dirt and/or other objects.
LWhen driving in the dark, wear bright clothing to be more visible, or clothing with reflectors,
and make sure that the reflectors of the wheelchair are clearly visible.
LBe very careful with fire, especially burning cigarettes; the seat and back covers could be
ignited.
LMake sure the maximum load (150 kg) is not exceeded.
SERVICING
Like all other technical products your electric wheelchair also requires servicing. The following notes
describe the measures that should be taken to ensure you could fully enjoy the advantages of your
wheelchair even after long periods of use.
zBEFORE DRIVING OFF
Check the tyres for visible damage and/or soiling. Remove the dirt that could impair the
functioning of the parking brakes. When a tyre is damaged, we urge you to have it replaced by
an authorised tyre dealer (see also the section on tyre changing).
Before driving off, check the functional effectiveness of the parking brakes. If these do not
work properly, kindly consult your specialist dealer (see also the section on parking brakes).
Check the tyre pressures and inflate them when required (also see the sections on tyre
changing and technical details).
Make sure all screws are properly tightened.
Switch the electronics on when you are sure the motors are engaged. After all indicators have
briefly lighted up, the charging condition and the last used driving program are indicated. The
diode above the ON/OFF switch is lighted up. If the battery charge is sufficient for the intended
route, you can start driving off.
zAPPROXIMATELY EVERY EIGHT WEEKS
Depending on the frequency of use you should slightly grease the following structural parts:

1. Ball bearings (external)
2. Brake lever bearings (parking brakes)
3. Moveable parts of the footrests
zAPPROXIMATELY EVERY SIX MONTHS
Depending on the frequency of use kindly check the following:
1. Cleanness
2. General condition
3. Functioning of the steering wheels
INSPECTION
In principle we recommend annual inspections, at least every time before starting to re-use the
wheelchair. Authorised persons should at least check and document the following:
•Check the cabling (especially for crushing, abrasion, cuts, visible insulation of inner
conductors, visible metallic veins, kinks, dents, colour changes of the outer cover, brittle
sections)
•Visual inspection of the frame parts to check for plastic deformation and/or wear and tear
(basic frame, seat frame, back frame, side parts, leg supports, motor suspensions)
•Check the safety of electric conductors so that shearing, bruising and other mechanical
stresses and strains are improbable.
•Visual inspection of all casings to check for damage; screws must be tightened solidly, and
seals should not exhibit visible damage.
•Check the resistance of protective conductors (0) according to VDE 0751-1
•Check the functioning of the armrests and leg supports (locking, loading, deformation, wear
and tear caused by loading)
•Check the functioning of the drives (during a test drive Ænoises, speed, free running, etc.),
power down (e.g. current limiting, final switch), if necessary: Measure the performance, first
with no load, and then with the nominal load ("SWL") to investigate the wear and tear of the
motors by comparing the values of the electric current with the values when the wheelchair
was delivered.
•Check the condition of the batteries, covers, tubes, and tyres.
Checking measurements may only be carried out by skilled persons trained on the wheelchair at least
and at least under the supervision of an electrician who knows the checking instruments and
processes. Only an electrician is able to release the electric wheelchair for use after successful
checking measurements or servicing.
The service must only be confirmed in the service plan when at least the above-mentioned aspects
have been checked. We shall gladly refer you to an authorised specialist dealer in your area.
The manufacturer does not accept any liability for damage caused by inadequate
or improper servicing.
