Vernacare Compact User Guide
Please read before use.
This publication is designed as an instruction for use for authorized users of the
Vernacare Compact disposal unit. All users should be familiar with its content.
Operations outside the scope of this guide should be carried out by suitably
qualified maintenance and service personnel only.
For further technical details please refer to the Technical Manual, available online at
www.vernacare.com in the products section.

Operation
1. Place the foot into the spot of light on the floor until the lid opens.
2. Put one (1) Vernacare disposable single-use product and its contents into the hopper.
3. Place the foot into the spot of light on the floor to close the lid.
If Auto-start is disabled push the start button - the display will indicate cycle running;
operation will commence a moment after pressing the start button.
Note
If you need to pause the cycle for any reason, press the start button. Pressing the start button
again will resume the cycle. Pressing and holding the start button will abort the cycle.
For optimum efficiency of the Compact disposal unit we recommend that only Vernacare
single-use disposable products and Vernacare deodoriser be used.

These messages are provided to indicate the status of the Compact disposal unit.
Insert foot to open The machine is ready to use.
Running The machine has started and is running through its cycle.
A progress bar and % counter indicates how long the
cycle has run.
End The machine has finished the cycle.

Cleaning Guidance
• Vernacare recommends that the outside of the machine, the underside of the lid and the
top cover are cleaned daily.
• Opening and closing the lid to clean the top cover and underside of the lid will cause a
cycle to run if the machine has auto-start enabled; this can be considered part of the
normal cleaning process.
• There is no need to manually clean inside the hopper.
• Cleaning products should be chosen according to local guidance and protocols.
• Do not use abrasive materials or organic solvents.
• If the machine is not used for a period of 7 days we recommend running a cycle with the
machine empty.
Note
If disinfection is required refer to the local infection control policy. ICNA guidelines (2000)
recommend the use of powder-free vinyl examination gloves for general cleaning tasks.
A plastic apron should be used to prevent soiling of uniform.
RULES
ONLY load a maximum of one (1) Vernacare single use disposable product per cycle.
ONLY use Vernacare deodoriser.
DON’T put non-maceratable wipes, dressings, plastic containers, incontinence pads,
metal objects, cotton wool, sanitary or paper towels, plastic gloves, aprons, syringes or
any other non-maceratable items into the Compact disposal unit.



Isolate power to the machine if required when cleaning the floor under the sensor.

If the inside of the machine is not clean at the end of a cycle, it may be due to overloading the
machine. Run a cycle with the machine empty to remove any residue.
If you experience any other problems, call maintenance.

EXPLANATION
Something is jamming the blades and
overloading the motor, too many items
or non-maceratable items may have
been placed in the machine
A build up of pressure in the drains has
been detected which could indicate a
blockage
There is a problem with the water supply

machine will continue to run as normal
The electricity supply was interrupted
There is liquid in the hopper from
a previous cycle, possibly due to
something blocking the drain outlet
Open lid and check for liquid in
the hopper. If the hopper does
not drain, call maintenance
