1. INTRODUCTION
The Pj20 Beacon devices (henceforth identified with the terms"products", "devices" or "beacons")
are Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) wireless transmitters for proximity applications with iBeacon™
technology.
Thanks to the two AA alkaline batteries, these are devices with long operating autonomy.
Before starting to use the Pj20 Beacons, check their integrity and carefully read the instructions
given in this manual.
Vetrya S.p.A. declines any and all responsibility if the beacons are used in incompatible ways and
environments for the product integrity, safety and operation.
1.1WARNINGS
Pj20 Beacon shall be only intended for the use for which it has been expressly conceived. Any
other use is to be considered improper and therefore dangerous. Do not use Pj20 Beacon in
environments with risk of explosion. The presence of flammable gases or fumes constitutes a
serious safety hazard, make sure that the device is always placed in an environment free of
humidity.

2. ACTIVATION AND INSTALLATION
Insert the batteries into the battery holder paying attention to the polarity or, if already present,
remove the protective plastic tab located inside.
Install the Pj20 Beacon on a wall or on the support where it should be used using silicone glue,
double-sided tape, or inserting screws in the appropriate holes. The installation must be carried
out by competent technical personnel.
Once powered, Pj20 Beacon is immediately active.
2.1MAXIMUM TRANSMISSION CAPACITY
The maximum transmission capacity (the maximum distance in which the Pj20 Beacon signal can
be received) is about 8 meters straight line.
The position of Pj20 Beacon (e.g. if placed on the ceiling), the surrounding environment (presence
of obstacles, metal and liquid objects, people between Pj20 Beacon and Pj20 tracer devices) can
affect the transmission field. Pj20 Beacon sensitivity can also be reduced by the presence of
nearby wireless devices.

3. BATTERIES
Pj20 Beacon is powered by two batteries, as shown in the following table:

DO NOT power Pj20 Beacon with batteries other than the one shown in the table. The use of
different batteries is potentially dangerous.
It is recommended to carefully follow the precautions below:
•DO NOT insert the battery into the battery holder with the positive and negative contacts
reversed;
•DO NOT pierce or damage the battery;
•DO NOT recharge the battery;
•DO NOT short-circuit the positive and negative contacts of the battery;
•DO NOT cause a forced battery discharge;
•DO NOT throw the battery into a fire;
•DO NOT place the battery in the following environmental conditions: near heat sources,
directly exposed to the sun, at high temperatures, at high humidity values, in contact with
water;
•DO NOT handle the battery with metal objects (for example pliers, scissors, ...). In general, do
not allow the metal contacts of the batteries to come into contact with other metal objects,
including other batteries. This could cause short circuits, damage the batteries and cause
overheating or explosion;
•In the event that the batteries are stored or discarded, make surethey are individually covered
with insulating tape;
•DO NOT put batteries in your mouth. If the battery (or the liquid it contains) is swallowed,
contact a doctor immediately. The swallowed battery must be immediately removed. The
ingestion of the battery or the liquid contained in it causes irreversible damage to the digestive
system, within two hours, until death;
•Perforated or damaged battery may lose its contents:
oIf the contents of the battery come into contact with the eyes, rinse immediately with
plenty of running water for at least 30 minutes. Contact a doctor immediately;

oIf the contents of the battery come into contact with the skin, rinse immediately with
plenty of running water for at least 15 minutes. If irritation or pain persists, contact a
doctor;
oThe contents of the battery can irritate the respiratory tract. Immediately go out into the
open air. If irritation persists, contact a doctor;
•DO NOT, under any circumstances, leave batteries within reach of children.
3.1BATTERY LIFE
The estimated battery life is approximately 12 months. We recommend replacing the batteries of
the Pj20 Beacon every year. The values are estimated on the basis of the current absorption
measured in our laboratories, the rated capacity and the self-discharge of the battery. It is
assumed that the operating temperature is around 20/25° C. In case of significantly different
temperature conditions (and in particular at lower temperatures) the operating life can be
compromised. Continuous operation (24/7) is assumed.

5. WASTE DISPOSAL
In implementation of Directives 2011/65/EU and 2012/19/EC, concerning the reduction of the use
of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, as well as the waste disposal.
The crossed-out wheelie bin shown on the equipment, on its packaging or on the attached
documentation, indicates that the product, at the end of its useful life, must be disposed of
separately from other waste.
The user must therefore transfer the equipment that has reached the end of its life to the
appropriate separate collection centres for electronic and electrotechnical wastes, or return it to
the retailer when purchasing a new equivalent type of equipment, on a one-to-one basis . The
adequate separate collection for the subsequent start-up of the decommissioned equipment for
recycling, treatment and environmentally compatible disposal, contributes to avoiding possible
negative effects on the environment and health and promotes the reuse and/or recycling of the
materials of which the equipment is composed.
In implementation of Directive 2006/66/EC, concerning the reduction of the use of hazardous
substances in batteries, as well as their disposal.
The symbol of the crossed-out wheeled bin shown on the equipment, on its packaging or on the
attached documentation, indicates that batteries must not be disposed of together with the rest of
common household waste, as they could contain substances that are potentially harmful to the
environment and health. Remove the discharged battery from the equipment and return it to the
appropriate collection points.
