The Vicair®Academy Replacement Mattress 415 is ready for use.
We recommend to carry out the following checks during rst use, preferably together
with your caregiver/therapist.
Checking the mattress size
Make sure the mattress ts the dimensions of the bed on which it is to be used.
The mattress can be proled to any desired position of the bed frame.
Checking for “bottoming out”
Your body should be fully supported so that no part can make contact with the bottom
layer of the mattress. Checking for “bottoming out” should be done during rst use
and after adjustments to the mattress lling.
Do not use the mattress if bottoming out occurs. In most cases, adjusting the lling
grade of the compartments will solve the problem.
Adjusting the mattress lling
If necessary, the rmness can be adjusted by removing (or adding) cells from the
various compartments of the mattress.
Checking for redness of the skin
Check your skin regularly for redness, especially during the rst few days. If severe
redness occurs, stop using the mattress. Consult your therapist or dealer.
Making transfers
Make sure to have a good support during transfers to and from the mattress. Make
the transfer with the bed in its lowest position and preferably while slightly leaning
backward (knees higher than hips). Take care not to slide off the low-friction cover
when sitting on the edge of the mattress.
Use at high altitude
Because each SmartCell™ is lled with air, the mattress may behave differently when
used at high altitude or in an aeroplane. Under such circumstances, the rmness of
the mattress can be adjusted by removing a few cells from each compartment. Vicair
recommends not to use the mattress above 2400 m (8000 ft) ASL (above sea level).
User weight
Maximum user weight 250kg.
