Overview
VIVOTEK’s MD8564-EH is a 2-megapixel network camera geared toward transportation
applications, focusing on rolling stock deployments. Designed specifically for mounting
outside the vehicle, MD8564-EH can work either as a side-view camera (also known as
back-mirror camera or DOO camera) or pantograph monitoring camera if placed on the
roof of the vehicle. In both applications, camera provides the driver with clear view of
critical areas for incident monitoring and operational awareness. Armed with built-in IR
illuminators, the MD8564-EH is able to provide superior image quality for up to 30 meters
in total darkness.
With full EN50155 TX compliance the camera can withstand shock, vibrations, humidity,
and electromagnetic interference, maintaining reliable video preview and recording during
vehicle movement. Furthermore, the ruggedized metal housing provide effective and
robust protection from harsh outdoor conditions: IK10+ rating guarantees high resistance to
mechanical impact, IP6K9K rating ensures camera is completely weather-proof. MD8564-
EH also features wide operating temperature range -40°C~70°C and a front glass heater
for de-icing and de-frosting, making the camera suitable even for the toughest climate
conditions.
Employing VIVOTEK’s Smart Stream II technology, the MD8564-EH can reduce both
bandwidth and storage consumption by up to 50%* while maintaining high standards of
image quality.

Read Before Use
The use of surveillance devices may be prohibited by law in your country. The Network Camera
is not only a high-performance web-ready camera but can also be part of a exible surveillance
system. It is the user’s responsibility to ensure that the operation of such devices is legal before
installing this unit for its intended use.
It is important to first verify that all contents received are complete according to the Package
Contents listed below. Take note of the warnings in the Quick Installation Guide before the Network
Camera is installed; then carefully read and follow the instructions in the Installation chapter to
avoid damage due to faulty assembly and installation. This also ensures the product is used
properly as intended.
The Network Camera is a network device and its use should be straightforward for those who
have basic networking knowledge. It is designed for various applications including video sharing,
general security/surveillance, etc. The Configuration chapter suggests ways to best utilize the
Network Camera and ensure proper operations. For creative and professional developers, the URL
Commands of the Network Camera section serves as a helpful reference to customizing existing
homepages or integrating with the current web server.

NOTE:
Use the camera only with a DC power supply that is UL listed, and limited power source
(LPS) certied. The power supply should bear the UL listed and LPS marks. The power
supply must also meet any safety and compliance requirements for the country of use.
1. >0°C ~ 10W. Under a normal temperature condition, the camera consumes 10W of
power, and can be powered via a PoE 802.3af connection.
2. When operating under a cold weather, -40°C ~ 0°C , the front glass heater creates an
additional 50W load, and must be supplied by a 24V DC connection.

1.Jot down the camera's MAC address for later reference.
2.Remove the top cover by loosening 5 T10 screws. Keep the top cover for later use.
When working with the main board, avoid touching the circuits board for the cocern with
the damage by electrostatic discharge.

speaker devices. The 24V DC power source is designed to drive the onboard heater via
the M12 power connector.

The coverage of the IR lights is level to 60º. The horizontal coverage angle is 50º.
4. Attach the alignment sticker to a preferred location. Aim the the sticker at a direction
you prefer. Drill holes on the wall or ceiling to install the plastic anchors. The included
anchors may not be necessary for installation on different materials.

9. Connect the Ethernet cabel to a PoE mid-span or switch. Use the IW2 utility to locate
the camera, and open a web console with it. Note that the camera can be powered by an
A type PoE device.

10. With a live video, you can adjust the camera lens tilt angle. When satised with the
shooting angle, tighten the tilt retention screws.

If the camera is installed on a vertical surface, e.g., on the side of a train, you
can use the Rotation function to change the orientation of video. Also, a camera
mounted on the side of a train cabin sometimes needs to cover a long, narrow
view of the vehicle.

Hardware Reset
The reset button is used to reset the system or restore the factory default settings.
Sometimes resetting the system can return the camera to normal operation. If the system
problems remain after reset, restore the factory settings and install again.
Reset: Press the recessed reset button. Wait for the Network Camera to reboot.
Restore: Press and hold the reset button until the status LED rapidly blinks. Note that all
settings will be restored to factory default. Upon successful restore, the status LED will
blink green and red during normal operation.
SD/SDHC/SDXC Card Capacity
This network camera is compliant with SD/SDHC/SDXC 16GB / 8GB / 32GB / 64GB and
other preceding standard SD cards.

Network Deployment
General Connection (PoE)
When using a PoE-enabled switch
The Network Camera is PoE-compliant, allowing transmission of power and data via a sin-
gle Ethernet cable. Follow the below illustration to connect the Network Camera to a PoE-
enabled switch via Ethernet cable.

Use a PoE power injector (optional) to connect between the Network Camera and a non-

1. The camera is only to be connected to PoE networks without routing to outside plants.
2. For PoE connection, use only UL listed I.T.E. with PoE output.

Internet connection via a router
Before setting up the Network Camera over the Internet, make sure you have a router and follow
the steps below.
1. Connect your Network Camera behind a router, the Internet environment is illustrated below.
Regarding how to obtain your IP address, please refer to Software Installation on page 22 for
details.

2. In this case, if the Local Area Network (LAN) IP address of your Network Camera is
192.168.0.3, please forward the following ports for the Network Camera on the router.
■ HTTP port: default is 80
■ RTSP port: default is 554
■ RTP port for video: default is 5556
■ RTCP port for video: default is 5557
If you have changed the port numbers on the Network page, please open the ports
accordingly on your router. For information on how to forward ports on the router, please refer
to your router’s user’s manual.
3. Find out the public IP address of your router provided by your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Use the public IP and the secondary HTTP port to access the Network Camera from the
Internet. Please refer to Network Type on page 73 for details.
Internet connection with static IP
Choose this connection type if you are required to use a static IP for the Network Camera.
Please refer to LAN setting on page 72 for details.
Internet connection via PPPoE (Point-to-Point over Ethernet)
Choose this connection type if you are connected to the Internet via a DSL Line. Please refer to
PPPoE on page 73 for details.
