2 The use of the Ortholumm light device
Ortholumm light therapy device is used as a support therapy to the
medical treatment or as a stand-alone therapy (wellness, cosmecs).
Please read the instrucons for use carefully. In case of more serious
medical condions consult your treang physician prior to the use of
the Ortholumm light therapy device. Ortholumm light therapy device is
not a substute for medical treatment.
The device is not intended for use in direct contact with skin.

2.1Turningthedeviceon/o
Connect the device to the power supply and plug it in the socket.
Press the On key ( ) for a few seconds to turn it on.
Use the “M” key to set the desired program. The Ortholumm device oers a choice of vari-
ous programmes (1-15), as well as the choice of individual frequencies (programmes 16-23).
Aer a short while the LED lights turn on automacally.
Frequencies change within an individual programme; the change of frequency is announced
by a short beep.
The device turns o automacally aer the end of the programmed treatment me. The
treatment mes dier depending on the selected program.
If you wish to turn o the device before the programme is nished, use the buon.
Aer the treatment remove the device and store it in a proper place.

3.1Recommendedphotobiomodulaonparameters
Photobiomodulaon is the regulaon of cell processes by light in precisely dened light re-
gimes.
The photobiomodulaon supports regular treatment processes and includes both biosmula-
on and bioinhibion. Therefore the correct sengs for light parameters should be used:
Phototherapeucal window: 600 - 1000 nm.
- Energy current density: od 0,5 J/cm2 - 5 J/cm2; most oen 2,5–5 J/cm² or more for deeper
ssues.
- Power density: od 5 mW/cm2 - 100 mW/cm2; most oen 10 mW/cm2
do 30 mW/cm2 range for surface ssues, 30 mW/cm2 do 80 mW/cm2 for deeper joints and
muscle ssues.
Acute condions are treated once to twice per day, and chronic condions
are treated twice to three mes per week. Light therapy should be started
as soon as possible aer the injury or prior medical treatment.

4Safetywarnings
4.1Electricalsafety
Anyimproperusemaybedangerous!
- The power supply provides the necessary low voltage for powering
the device which is adequately electrically isolated. However, it should
be noted that any misuse of the device or damage to the device or the
electric cable may be potenally dangerous. The device is protected from
overheang by fan cooling and should not be covered, e.g. with a cloth,
during use.
- The power supply isolates the device from the mains circuit. It should be
connected to the mains circuit through a socket that is easily accessible.
- Do not use the device in the vicinity of water.
- Do not use the device near a strong source of electromagnec radiaon.
Move at least 1 m away from the source.
- If the electric cable or the housing are damaged, contact the service
centre or the vendor.
- Unplug the device from the socket when not in use or when cleaning the
device.
- When unplugging the device from the mains socket, hold the plug and
do not pull the cable. Plug the device into a mains socket with the correct
voltage: 100- 240V, 50-60Hz.
- The device should only be used with the provided power adapter.
4.2Importantinstruconsandwarnings
- Read the instrucons before use. If you are unsure about any eect, please consult the
professional sta.
- Do not look directly into the source of light. LED light, like any other light source, can cause
temporary (15 - 20 min) sight impairment, if looking directly into the source of light for more than
1-2 seconds. In such case wait for 20 minutes before driving a vehicle.
- Illuminate dry and unlubricated skin. Do not apply any ointments on the skin prior to the
treatment. If necessary apply the ointments aer the light treatment.
- The device heats up to no more than 42°C during operaon. If this temperature is exceeded, the
device turns o automacally.
- Certain medicinal products, cosmec preparaons or food in combinaon with light can cause skin
hypersensivity or allergic reacons. If this happens, disconnue the treatment.
- If taking medicinal products which are sensive to light, consult your physician before use.
- Light therapy should not be used in paents receiving photodynamic therapy.
- Frequency modulated light therapy should not be used in paents with pacemakers.
- Like in other electric devices, improper use may cause serious injury.
- If you feel that the device is heang or if the device falls into water, disconnue the treatment
immediately and unplug the device from the mains socket.
- Keep the device out of reach of children. Children should not operate the device without
supervision.
- The device should not be operated by people with reduced physical or mental capacity, unless
supervised or informed about the use by a person responsible for their safety.

- Clean the device with a coon ball moistened (not damp!) with alcohol and allow it to dry com-
pletely before plugging the device into the mains socket.
- You are not allowed to modify the device.
- Service personnel must exclusively use the components approved by the manufacturer.
4.3Safetywarningsforyourhealth
In case of doubt, always consult your physician.
The light therapy device is a self-help device. Light therapy is not a substute
for medical treatment, rehabilitaon methods or a therapy, prescribed by a
physician. It is an eecve complementary method of treatment and self-help.
When treang the face do not look straight into the light source. Cover or close
your eyes.
If you are taking medicinal products sensive to light, consult your physician
before use.
In treatment of chronic medical condions you may experience a short period
of discomfort (e.g. a ngling sensaon) or increased pain due to the re-es-
tablishment of primary natural balance. In such case disconnue the use and
resume the therapy aer 6 hours with shorter treatment mes.
Any local or systemic bacterial or viral infecon may alter the body’s response.
Cauon is necessary in cases of fever and infecons, certain blood disorders,
major blood loss, neuropathy, and in treang the lower abdomen - there are
insucient studies on the eect on gonads.
The smulator enhances the cellular metabolism and thus increases the re-
moval of toxins from the body. Make sure you are drinking enough water daily.
Illuminang the neck may have a temporary sedave eect. Therefore wait
before driving, operang construcon machinery or parcipang in any acvity
requiring complete alertness aer the therapy.
Despite numerous studies in the eld of light therapy, some quesons remain
unanswered. In some cases the use of light therapy is not advised although
there are no reports on adverse eects (applies only to home use).

4.5Precauons

* In case of diabetes divide the daily dose of light therapy into several smaller doses, e.g. 5 minutes
three mes per day. If you use the analgesic frequency, replace it with a frequency from the table
of individual frequencies (programme 22). Monitor the blood sugar level. Do the same in the case
of renal impairment or venous disease, as the illuminaon enhances the cellular metabolism and
consequently increases the removal of toxins from the body.
5OPERATION
5.1DESCRIPTIONOFPROGRAMMES
MUSCULOSKELETALINJURIESANDDISEASES

Programme1: Before training/exercise for muscle mass ecacy increase
The programme is intended to increase the ecacy of the muscle mass by increasing the aerobic
potenal in skeletal muscles and the ATP synthesis.
Light radiaon before the training reduces the synthesis of creane kinase in muscle cells, an
enzyme which acts as precursor of muscle bre injury. Light treatment reduces the probability of
muscle bre injury due to strenuous exercise. It increases the local blood ow in the ssues which
become beer supplied with oxygen and nutrients, and thus beer prepared for stress. Elascity
and mobility of the joints are improved by mulple use.

Muscles and joints are illuminated 15-20 minutes prior to the planned recreaonal or professional
exercise (the illuminaon of the joint from the back is the most ecient method).
Programme2:Following the training/exercise, post-stress condions, muscle relaxaon
The programme is intended to regenerate the body aer the training. It replenishes the cellular
energy reserves, modulates the inammatory processes and induces the beginning of the re-
generaon of potenal micro-injuries, as well as increases the lymph ow and accelerates the
removal of metabolic waste products. It also reduces the lacc acid level, enables the general
relaxaon and shortens the resng me.

Programme4: Injuries and inammaons of joints, tendons, ligaments, bones and carlage
The programme is intended for alleviaon of pain, swelling and inammaon, increasing

the mobility of the joints, and faster treatment of injuries, such as distorons, dislocaons,
ruptures and dierent types of fractures.
The programme is used aer the medical treatment, immobilisaon of an injury or surgery!
Programme5: Nerve injuries and inammaons
Helps in injuries and inammaon of the nerves. Smulates the growth factors in nerve cells
and restores the growth of nerve endings. Protects the nerve cells against free radicals.
Programme6: Analgesic eect
The program is intended for pain reducon by acng on nerve bres for transfer of pain pulses
(gate theory), on proprioceptors in the skin, and on inammatory mediators.

Programme7: Rheumac illnesses, arthroses
The programme’s frequencies enhance the regeneraon of carlage, elascity of the
ligaments, inammaon control, and alleviate the pain and swelling. The program is intended
for improving the movement funcon in large and small joints and reducing the sness.
Programme8: Neuropathies, herpes zoster
The programme is intended for improving the sensory funcon in distal peripheral nerves in
digits, palms and feet, and reducing pain.
Paents with diabetes should regularly monitor their blood sugar levels, since
the light therapy reduces the blood sugar. (see Precauons)!
