Wadia 170 i Transport Frequently Asked Questions
The Wadia 170iTrans ort and the iPod have micro rocessors that may take u to 10 seconds before
they will communicate with each other ro erly. If you begin trying to use your iPod while it is
erforming this initial communication, you may ex erience roblems and may have to either reset
your iPod or the 170iTrans ort. We know that you will be excited to use this fantastic new roduct

T e blue color filter on t e front of t e 170iTransport t at is located under t e Wadia Logo is w ere t e Infrared
sensor for t e remote is located. T is does not lig t up at any time.
Is my iP d c mpatible and what functi nality will it have?
iPod nano G1: Does not support video and can only output digital audio in t e “extended interface”
mode. Translation: The iPod click wheel interface is not available while the Nano is attached to the
1 0iTransport using digital audio out.
iPod nano G2: Does not support video. However, it does output digital audio wit out t e click w eel
interface being disabled.
iPod nano G3 and Nwe G4: Supports component video out and will allow digital audio out w ile still
allowing t e iPod click w eel interface to function normally.
iPod video: Supports S-video out (no component video). It only outputs digital audio in its “extended
interface” mode. T e iPod click w eel interface is not available w ile t e player is attac ed to t e
170iTransport and using digital audio out.
iPod classic (80GB, 160GB and NEW 120GB): Supports component video out and enables digital
audio out w ile still allowing t e iPod click w eel interface to function normally
iPod touch 1G and NEW 2G: Supports component video out and enables digital audio out w ile still
allowing t e iPod click w eel interface to function normally.

Connect your iPod once you ave properly installed t e appropriate dock insert. Gently slide t e iPod down into
t e dock insert. Make sure to align t e connection on t e bottom of t e iPod wit t e multi-pin metal connector
located wit in t e plastic dock insert. Do not force t e iPod down into t e dock insert or you may damage t e
multi-pin connector and cause t e Wadia 170iTransport to malfunction. To remove t e iPod from t e Wadia
170iTransport, grasp t e iPod wit a firm grip and pull upwards at t e same angle of t e iPod w ile docked.
H w d I select the appr priate D ck Insert f r my iP d?
T e Wadia 170iTransport comes wit several dock inserts t at will allow it to accommodate t e compatible
iPod models. First, you will want to determine w ic insert fits your iPod model. If t ere is already a dock insert
in t e Wadia 170iTransport, you will want to remove it. T is is accomplis ed by applying slig t pressure wit
your t umbs to t e back of t e insert w ile pus ing up to release t e dock insert. You can also try using your
finger nail to gently pull up on t e notc at t e back of t e dock insert. Do not use excessive force to pry t e
dock insert out of t e 170iTransport. To install t e new insert, make sure t at t e two (2) small slits in t e inside
of t e insert are facing t e front of t e Wadia 170iTransport. Place t e dock insert over t e multi-pin metal
connector and carefully click into place.
H w d I c nnect the 170iTransp rt t AC p wer?
C eck to make sure t at t e power cord s ipped wit your Wadia 170iTransport as been manufactured for
operation at your AC line voltage. Damage caused by improper operation is not covered by Wadia warranty.
If t e included cable and wall termination is different from your AC outlet, contact your Wadia dealer.
H w d I make the digital c nnecti n?
Connect your c osen cable from t e S/PDIF Coaxial Digital Audio output on t e Wadia 170iTransport to t e
corresponding digital input on your Digital to Analog Convertor, Digital A/V Receiver or Digital Preamp/Processor.
H w d I make the anal g c nnecti n?
Connect your c osen cable from t e Left and Rig t Line Level Audio outputs on t e Wadia 170iTransport to t e
corresponding analog input on your Television, Stereo Receiver or Ot er Analog Input Device. You will need to
use t e mode button on t e remote to activate t e analog outputs on t e 170iTransport.

Connect your c osen cable from t e Component Video output on t e Wadia 170iTransport to t e corresponding
Component Video input on your Television, A/V Receiver or Preamp Processor. (The Wadia 1 0iTransport only
acts as a high-performance pass-thru for video signals. Picture performance is limited to the quality of the
material stored on the iPod. Some video adjustments may be necessary on your video display for maximum
video performance).

Connect your c osen cable from t e S-Video output on t e Wadia 170iTransport to t e corresponding S-Video
input on your Television, A/V Receiver or Preamp Processor. For Composite Video Display output, you will need
to purc ase an S-Video to Composite Video Adapter cable. Please contact your local dealer for more information
on t is type of adapter. You will only be able to use t e S-Video/Composite Video output wit t e iPod Video.
In order to activate t e S/Video output, you will need to use mode button on t e remote. W en you use t e
S-Video output on t e 170iTransport, you will be limited to analog audio output.
Please note: T e iTransport is compatible wit t e current
standard S-Video connector only. If you ave an iPod video and
plan to use an S-Video cable, first confirm t at your S-Video cable
as t e appropriate connector termination prior to inserting into
t e iTransport. Using t e incorrect S-Video cable could result in t e
cable becoming trapped in t e iTransport. If you are unclear on t is
in any way, please contact your Wadia Dealer.
T e S-Video connector on t e Left is Incorrect. Do not attempt to
use t is type connection or you may void your warranty.
T e S-Video connector on t e Right is Correct.
Why can’t I see the menus n my iP d nan G1 r iP d vide when it is d cked?
iPod nano G1 and iPod video will automatically enter t e “extended interface” mode w en docked in t e
170iTransport; t e Wadia Logo will display on t e iPod screen indicating digital audio output is now available.
W ile in t e “extended interface” mode t ere is no control of t e iPod from t e click w eel interface. If you
c oose (queue a selection) before inserting t e iPod into t e 170iTransport, t e 170iTransport will continue to
play your selection until it is complete. If t ere was no previous selection, t e 170iTransport will play t e entire
content of t e iPod in t e “All Tracks” order. T e 170iTransport will not manipulate t e s uffle setting. W atever
s uffle setting t e user as c osen before connecting t e iPod will be onored by t e 170iTransport. T e Wadia
Logo will be present on t e screen of t e nano G1 or iPod video t e entire time t e iPod is docked in t e
170iTransport and t e digital signal is synced.
H w c me I can’t hear my music immediately when I d ck my iP d?
W en you dock your iPod, t e 170iTransport first initiates a ands ake wit iPod and t e iPod verifies t at it is
okay to communicate wit t e 170iTransport. Once t e ands ake as taken place, t e 170iTransport now as
access to t e audio/video information stored on your iPod and will stay synced until it is undocked. Please be
patient w ile t e 170iTransport is initiating t is communication as it may take up to 10 seconds to complete.

If you pus ed play to start t e video before t e 170iTransport ad finis ed its ands ake wit your iPod, it will
not output video from t e 170iTransport to your television. To correct t is, you will need to undock and t en
redock your iPod. Make sure to wait about 10 seconds for t e 170iTransport to do its ands ake wit your iPod
and t en press play to watc your video.
Why can’t I see the iP d menus n my televisi n?
T e Video Outputs on t e 170itransport are a pass-t ru from t e iPods video output. At t is time, t e iPod is not
capable of outputting its Grap ical User Interface Menu’s.
Why sh uld I keep my iP d firmware up t date?
As a Made For iPod device, t e usefulness of t e 170iTransport depends on making sure t at your iPods firmware
is up to date. We can only predict ow your iPod will work wit t e 170iTransport w en your iPod as t e latest
firmware installed. You can make sure t at your iPod firmware is up to date w en you sync your iPod wit iTunes.
You will want to make sure to “C eck for Updates” in iTunes to make sure t at you ave t e latest firmware.
Why d es my iP d l ck up and the music st p at the end f a Playlist n my lder iP d nan r
iP d Vide ?
W en reac ing t e end of t e playlist, and pressing t e fast fwd button. It actually does not “lock up”. T e
playlist is complete and over, so t e iPod stops. You ave to undock t e iPod, c oose anot er playlist, and t en
redock and start again. T is is t e expected be avior for t e old iPods.
Why d es the Wadia L g n t appear s metimes when my lder iP d nan r iP d Vide ?
If you dock and undock too many times in a row, some of t ose times t e logo won’t appear, alt oug t e iPod
will function normally and correct. T is is an iPod “feature” t at disallows accessory makers from animating t e
iPod screen. T ey only allow accessory makers to c ange t e logo once in 15 seconds. So, you could get in a
situation w ere t e logo won't appear, undock your iPod, wait more t an 15 seconds and t en redock your iPod
and wait for t e logo to appear.

During our lengt y testing process we became aware of t is anomaly and determined t at it is somet ing in
t e current Apple firmware. Apple is aware of t is and is currently working to correct it. If you encounter t is
problem, please sync your iPod wit iTunes and c eck to see if t ere is a more current update for your firmware.
Download t e more current upgrade if it exists. If t e problem still exists after an update, you can skip a ead
more t an one c apter at a time and t en go back to t e c apter you want. T is is not a permanent solution,
but it allow you to view your movies until Apple as solved t is problem.
Why d es my C ver Fl w n t m ve sm thly and album c vers d n’t p p up immediately?
Currently t e iPod does not ave t e processing power to display Cover Flow properly and allow access to t e
digital information. We suggest not using Cover Flow w en you ave your iPod docked wit 170iTransport and
are using t e digital output. In some cases, trying to use Cover Flow w ile music is playing may even cause
interruption in t e digital signal and will result in lapses in signal.

First you will want to undock your iPod. T en, unplug t e power supply from t e back of t e 170iTransport and
wait 30 seconds. Finally, reconnect t e power supply to t e back of t e 170iTransport and re-dock your iPod.
H w d I kn w if my iP d is synced with the 170iTransp rt?
W en t e iPod is properly docked in t e 170iTransport, t e battery icon in t e upper rig t and corner of t e
iPod screen will eit er ave a lig tning bolt or a power plug in it. If you ave docked your iPod and waited up to
10 seconds for t e ands ake to appen between t e iPod and t e 170iTransport and t ere is still not ing in t e
battery icon, make sure t at t e power supply is plugged into t e wall and t e ot er end of t e power supply
cord is securely plugged into t e 170iTransport.
Why can’t I see vide fr m my iP d vide when it is c nnected t my televisi n with S-Vide ?
T e iPod video will not present video to t e 170iTransport S-Video output if t e iPod is operating in “extended
interface” mode. Pressing t e remote mode button will take t e iPod video out of “extended interface” mode
enabling t e S-Video and Analog audio outputs of t e 170iTransport. Audio will be available only t roug t e
Analog audio outputs.
H w d I switch my 170iTransp rt ver t utput thr ugh the Anal g Outputs?
W en you dock you iPod into t e 170iTransport t e default mode for it to output signal is digital. T e analog
outputs are not active at t e same time as t e digital output. Pressing t e mode button will active t e analog
outputs and deactivate t e digital output. To enter digital audio mode again, your iPod must be removed from
t e 170iTransport, and t en re-inserted into t e 170iTransport. T is will re-establis t e digital audio output.
Why d I s metimes hear a l w-level hum c ming fr m my televisi n r s und system when I am
using the 170iTransp rts Anal g Outputs?
If you are using t e 170iTransport in t e analog audio mode and undock your iPod you may ear a low-level um
t roug your sound system. T e analog output from t e 170iTransport is a true pass-t roug from t e iPod.
Undocking an iPod w ile in analog mode creates a floating input. To reduce t e possibility of um, c ange
inputs, or mute t e input t at t e Wadia 170iTransport is connected to w en undocking your iPod.
H w d I reset my iP d if it l cks up?
iPod – Toggle t e Hold switc on and off (slide it to Hold, then turn it off again). Press and old t e Menu and
Select buttons until t e Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat t is step.
iPod touc – Press and old t e Sleep/Wake button and t e Home button at t e same time until you see t e
Apple logo.

T e Mode button is w at allows you to c ange from digital out to analog out. Digital out is inactive w en t e
analog out is active. T e Mode button does not allow you to switc from analog out back to t e digital out. To
switc back to digital out you will need to undock your iPod and t en redock your iPod and let it resync ronize
wit t e 170iTransport.

Why can’t I see vide fr m my iP d vide with the c mp nent vide cables c nnected t my televisi n?
T e iPod video does not support component video output and will only allow you to output video t roug t e
S-video connection. In order to activate t e S-video connection you will ave to put t e 170iTransport into
analog mode by pressing t e Mode button on t e 170iTransport remote. T is will also activate t e analog
outputs and deactivate t e digital output on t e 170iTransport. You cannot do digital output and S-video wit
t e iPod video. You will only be able to output analog audio along wit t e S-video signal from you iPod video.
All newer iPod models (3G nano, iPod classic and the iPod touch) are designed to output component video and
will also output eit er digital or analog audio.
Will my 170iTransp rt w rk with a Balanced P wer Supply?
T e provided power supply needs unbalanced AC at t e input. If you are using a balanced power supply, do
not plug t e power adapter for t e 170iTransport into it. Instead plug t e 170iTransport into a standard surge
protector/line conditioner or directly into t e wall
