the range is used. To remove any re-
maining glue:
l Rub briskly with thumb to make a ball,
then remove.
or
l Soak area with liquid hand dishwash-
ing detergent before removing glue as
described above.
Do not use sharp instruments,
rubbing alcohol, flammable fluids or
abrasive cleaners. These can damage
the finish. See “Important Safety

To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock,
injury to persons, or damage when using the
range, follow basic precautions, including the
l Read all instructions before using
the range.
l Install or locate the range only in
accordance with the provided
Installation Instructions. It is rec-
ommended that the range be in-
stalled by a qualified installer. The
range must be properly connected
to electrical supply and grounded.

l To reduce the risk of tipping of the
appliance, the appliance must be
secured by a properly installed
anti-tip bracket. To check if the
bracket is installed properly,
remove the storage drawer (see
page 12) and verify that the anti-tip
bracket is engaged.
l Do not use the range for warming
or heating the room. Persons could
be burned or injured, or a fire could
start.
l DO not leave chrldren alone or
unattended in area where the
range is in use. They should never
be allowed to sit or stand on any
part of the range. They could be
burned or injured.
l DO not wear loose or hanging gar-
ments when using the range. They
could ignite if they touch a hot sur-
face element or heating element
and you could be burned.
l DO not repair or replace any part
of the range unless specifically
recommended in this manual. All
other servicing should be referred
to a qualified technician.
l Do not store flammable materials
in or near the range. They could
explode or burn.
9 Do not use water on grease fires.
Never pick up a flaming pan.
Smother flaming pan on cooktop
by covering with a well-fitted lid,
cookie sheet or flat tray. Flaming
grease outside of pan can be
extinguished with baking soda or,
if available, a multipurpose dry
chemical or foam-type extinguisher.
l Use only dry potholders. Moist or
damp potholders on hot surfaces
may result in burns from steam. Do
not let potholder touch hot heating
elements. Do not use a towel or
bulky cloth for a potholder. They
could catch on fire.
l Select a pan with a flat bottom that
is about the same size as the sur-
face element. If pan is smaller than
the surface element, some of the
heating element WIIIbe exposed
and may result in the igniting of
clothing or potholders, Correct pan
size also improves cooking
efficiency.
l Never leave surface elements
unattended at high heat settings.
A boil-over could result and cause
smoking and greasy spill-overs
that may ignite.
l Check to be sure glass cooking
utensils are safe for use on the
cooktop. Only certain types of
glass, glass-ceramic, ceramic,
earthenware or other glazed uten-
sils are suitable for cooktops with-
out breaking due to the sudden
change in temperature.

l Turn pan handles inward, but not
over other surface elements. This
will help reduce the chance of
burns, igniting of flammable mate-
rials, and spills due to bumping of
the pan.
l Use care when opening oven door.
Let hot air or steam escape before
removing or replacing food.
l Do not heat unopened containers.
They could explode. The hot con-
tents could cause burns and con-
tainer particles could cause injury.
l Keep range vents unobstructed.
l Always position oven racks in
desired location while oven is cool.
If rack must be moved while oven
is hot, do not let potholder contact
hot heating element in oven.
l Do not clean door seal. It is essen-
tial for a good seal. Care should be
taken not to rub, damage, or move
the seal. Clean only parts recom-
mended in this Use and Care
Guide.
l Do not use oven cleaners. No com-
mercial oven cleaner or oven liner
protective coating of any kind
should be used in or around any
part of the oven.
l Before self-cleaning the oven,
remove broiler pan, broiler grid,
oven racks and other utensils.
Do not use your oven to clean
miscellaneous parts.
l Do not cook on broken cooktop.
If cooktop should break, cleaning
solutions and spill-overs may
penetrate the broken cooktop and
create a risk of electric shock.
Contact a qualified technician
immediately.
l Clean cooktop with care. Some
cleaners can produce noxious
fumes if applied to a hot surface.
If a wet paper towel is used to
wipe spills on a hot cooking area,
be careful to avoid steam burns.
l Do not store things children might
want above the range. Children
could be burned or injured while
climbing on it.
l Do not touch surface elements,
areas near surface elements, heat-
ing elements or interior surfaces of
oven. Surface elements and heat-
ing elements may be hot even
though they are dark in color.
Areas near surface elements and
interior surfaces of an oven
become hot enough to cause
burns. During and after use, do not
touch, or let clothing or other flam-
mable materials contact surface
elements, areas near elements,
heating units or interior surfaces of
oven until they have had sufficient
time to cool. Other surfaces of the
range may become hot enough to
cause burns; such as, the oven
vent opening, the surface near the
vent opening, the cooktop, the
oven door and window.

Push in
and turn
Usingthesurfaceelements
Surface element control knobs
must be pushed in before turning.
Turn either way until setting you want
shows in the window. Set them any-
where between HI and LOW.
Surface elements indicator light
The Surface Elements Indicator Light
on the control panel will glow when a
surface element is on.
The Hot Surface Indicator Lights on
the cooktop surface will glow when the
surface elements are turned on. The
Indicator Lights will continue to glow as
long as the surface elements are
too hot to touch, even after they are
turned off.
Burn and Fire Hazard
Be sure all control knobs are
turned to OFF and all indicator
lights are OFF when you are not
cooking. Someone could be
burned or a fire could start if a
surface element is accidentally
left ON.
Until you get used to the set-
tings, use the following as a guide.
For best results, star-l cooking at the
high settings; then turn the control knob
down to continue cooking.
Use HI to start foods cooking; to
bring liquids to a boil.
Use MED-HI to hold a rapid boil; to
fry chicken or pancakes.
Use MED for gravy, puddings and
icing; to cook large amounts of
vegetables.
Use MED-LO to keep food cooking
after starting it on a higher setting.
Use LO to keep food warm until
ready to serve. Set the heat higher or
lower within the LO band to keep food
at the temperature you want.
NOTE: The surface element will glow
red when it is turned on. You will see the
element cycling on (glowing red) and off
to maintain the proper temperature
setting you have selected. 5

Cookware
Use only flat-bottomed utensils on
the cooktop. Pans without flat bottoms
and specialty items with rounded
or ridged bottoms (woks or tea kettles)
will cause uneven heating and poor
cooking results.
To check your cookware for flatness,
place a straight-edge across the bottom
of each piece. Move the straight-edge
around. If light shows anywhere
between the pan and the straight-edge,
the pan is not flat. Do not use it.
Utensil bottoms must be clean and
free from nicks and scratches. Heating
a soiled pan can leave a stain on the
cooktop and cause scratches.

Sliding metal pans on the cooktop
surface could leave marks. Metal marks
can be removed using a special cook-
top polishing creme if they are not
heated. Other marks may be perma-
nent. See page 14 for cleaning and
caring suggestions.
Wiping off the cooktop before and
after each use will help keep the
surface free from stains and provide
the most even heating.
Dual-levelexhaustvent
system
Your Range/Microwave Combination
has a dual-level exhaust vent system
for removal of steam, grease and cook-
ing odors. You may use the lower vent
alone or add the top vent for maximum
venting.
The lower vents are located above
the cooktop (underneath the microwave
oven). The top vent is located above
the microwave oven (behind the Upper
Vent Door).
To use only the lower vents:
l Push the right side of the Exhaust
Switch for HIGH fan speed.
l Push the lefi side of the Exhaust
Switch for LOW fan speed.
l Center the Exhaust Switch to turn the
vent system OFF.
To use both vents:
l Raise the Upper Vent Door above the
microwave oven.
l Turn on desired fan speed by follow-
ing directions above.
NOTE: If the temperature gets too hot
around the microwave oven when it is in
use, the exhaust fan will automatically
turn on or change to the HIGH setting.
If this occurs, it cannot be turned off
with the Exhaust Switch. The exhaust
fan will stay on until the area cools
down or until the microwave oven shuts
off. This protects the oven.
Settingtheclock
The Clock is located at the top of the
upper microwave oven control panel.
To set the Clock, follow the instruc-
tions found in the Upper Microwave
Oven Use and Care Guide.
UsingtheMinuteTimer
The Minute Timer on the upper micro-
wave oven control panel can be used
for any timed cooking. To use the
Minute Timer, follow the instructions
found in the Upper Microwave Oven
Use and Care Guide.

Usingtheloweroven
The lower oven is always set with
two knobs:
l The Oven Selector
l The Oven Temperature Control
Both must be on a setting for the lower
oven to heat.
Baking
1. Position the rack(s) properly before
turning on the oven. To change
rack position, lift rack at front and
pull out.
The rack(s) should be placed so
the top of the food will be centered in
the oven. Always leave at least 1% to
2 inches (4-5 cm) between the sides
of the pan and the oven walls and
other pans. For more information,
see the Cooking Guide.
2. Set the Oven Selector on BAKE. The
Lower Oven ON Indicator Light will
come on.
3. Set the Oven Temperature Control
on the baking temperature you want.
The Lower Oven HEATING Indicator
Light will come on. The oven is pre-
heated when the Lower Oven HEAT-
ING Indicator Light first goes off.
4. Put food in the oven.
During baking, the elements will turn
on and off to keep the oven temperature
at the setting. The Lower Oven HEAT-
ING Indicator Light will turn on and off
with the elements.
The top element helps heat dur-
ing baking, but does not turn red.
5. When baking is done, turn both the
Oven Selector and Oven Tempera-
ture Control to OFF. The Lower Oven
ON and HEATING Indicator Lights
will go off.

Adjusting the oven
temperature control
Does your oven seem hotter or colder
than your old oven? The temperature of
your old oven may have shifted gradu-
ally without you noticing the change.
Your new oven is properly adjusted to
provide accurate temperatures. But
when compared to your old oven, the
new design may give you different
results.
If, after using the oven for a period of
time, you are not satisfied with the tem-
perature settings, they can be adjusted
by following these steps:
1. Pull the Oven Temperature Control
Knob straight off.
2. Loosen the locking screw inside the
control knob. Note the position of
the notches.
3. To lower the temperature, move
the tooth a notch closer to LO. Each
notch equals about 10°F (5°C).
4. To raise the temperature, move
the tooth a notch closer to HI. Each
notch equals about 10°F (5°C).
Tighten the locking screw and
replace the control knob.

Broiling
1. Position the rack before turning the
oven on. See “Broil Chart” in the
Cooking Guide or a reliable cook-
book for recommended rack
positions.
2. Put the broiler pan and food on
the rack.
3. Close the door to the Broil Stop posi-
tion (open about 4 inches, 10.2 cm).
The door will stay open by itself.
4. Set the Oven Selector and Oven
Temperature Control on BROIL. The
Lower Oven ON and HEATING
Indicator Lights will come on.
5. When broiling is done, turn both the
Oven Selector and Oven Tempera-
ture Control to OFF. The Lower Oven
ON and HEATING Indicator Lights
will go off.
Custom broil
l If food is cooking too fast, turn the
Oven Temperature Control counter-
clockwise until the Lower Oven
HEATING Indicator Light goes off.
l If you want the food to broil slower
from the start, set the Oven Tempera-
ture Control between 150” and 325°F
(65.5 and 162.7%). The lower the
temperature, the slower the cooking.
The Oven Selector must
be on BROIL for all broiling
temperatures.
NOTE: The lower oven door must be
partly open whenever the oven is set to
BROIL. Leaving the door open allows
the oven to maintain proper
temperatures.

Usingtheautomatic
MEALTIMER’”control
The automatic MEALTIMER’” control IS
designed to turn the lower oven on and
off at times you set _.even when you are
not around.
Automatic baking is ideal for foods
which do not require a preheated oven,
such as meats and casseroles. Do not
use the automatic cycle for cakes,
cookies, etc...undercooking
will result.
