Thelasersafetyclassindicatestheriskpotentialbasedon thelevelof accessiblelaserradiation.
ThewidlaserC500 isaClass 2(US: classII) lasersystem.
Integratedlasersource ofthe widlaserC500is aClass 4(US: classIV)laser system.
Class2 (US:classII)
Theaccessiblelaserradiation ofClass2(US:classII)lasersystemsdoesnotposeanyhazardforthe
skin.Anyshort-termradiationoftheeyesalsoposesnoriskdueto thelow-leveloutput. Intheevent
oflonger,more intensiveradiation,the eyeisprotectedbythenaturallidreflex.
ThewidlaserC500usesaClass2(US:classII)pilot laser.Inordertopreventirritationoftheeyes
duringoperation,theoperatorshouldnotlookdirectlyatthelasersource.
Diffusereflectionsof thepilotlaser are entirelyharmless.
Class4(US:classIV)
Highpoweredlasers(visibleor invisible)consideredtopresentpotentialacutehazardtotheeyeand
skinforbothdirect(intrabeam)andscatter(diffused)conditions.Alsohavepotentialhazard

ThewidlaserC500,requiresastableelectricalconnectionaccordingthefollowingspecifications,230vAC16A
50/60Hz.
Themachine´selectricalconnectionmustbe grounded.
Itisstrictly forbiddentoconnectoroperatethe machineduringthunderstormsandanytypeofelectrical
instabilitymomentsorevents.
Intheelectricalappliancemanufacturingindustry,thefollowing IECprotectionclassesaredefinedin IEC61140
andusedtodifferentiatebetweentheprotective-earthconnectionrequirementsofdevices.

According tothisclassification,thewidlaserC500is aClass I product.
Theseappliancesmusthave theirchassisconnected toelectricalearth(US:ground)byaseparateearth
conductor(coloredgreen/yellowinmost countries,greeninthe US,CanadaandJapan).Theearth connectionis
achievedwitha3-conductormainscable,typicallyendingwith3-prongACconnectorwhichplugsintoa
correspondingACoutlet.Thebasicrequirementisthatnosinglefailurecanresultin dangerousvoltagebecoming
exposedsothatitmightcauseanelectricshock andthatifafaultoccursthesupplywillbe removedautomatically(this
issometimesreferredtoasADS=AutomaticDisconnectionofSupply).
Afaultin theappliancewhichcausesaliveconductor tocontactthecasingwillcausea currentto flowinthe
earthconductor.Iflargeenough,thiscurrentwilltripanover-currentdevice(fuseor circuitbreaker(CB)) and
disconnectthesupply.Thedisconnectiontimehasto befastenoughnottoallowfibrillation tostartif aperson isin
contactwiththe casingatthe time.Thistimeandthe currentratinginturnsetsamaximumearthresistance
permissible.Toprovide supplementaryprotectionagainsthigh-impedancefaultsitiscommontorecommenda

2.3.Safety precautions
Themachinemustonlybeoperatedbytrainedandauthorizedpersonnel.It isthedutyofthe operator,tocheck
themachinebeforestartofwork forexternallyvisibledamageanddefects,and toimmediatelyreportchangesthat
appear(includingbehaviorduringoperation)that affectthesafety.Preparation,retooling,changeofwork piece,
maintenanceandrepairactivitiesmustonlyperformedwithequipmentbuttonedoff,bytrainedpersonnel.
Principally,nosafetycomponentsmaybe removedordisabled(alreadyhere weemphasizethe imminent
dangers,forexamplesevereburns,lossof eye-sight).Ifthe removalofsafetycomponentsisre-quiredduringrepair
andservice,the replacementofthesafetycomponentsmustbe performedimmediatelyaftercompletionof the
serviceandrepairactivities.Noworkingmethods arepermittedthataffectthesafetyofthemachine.
Itisabsolutelyforbiddenforanyonewhoisundertheinfluenceofdrugs,alcoholorreaction-impairing
medicationtoworkwiththemachine.
