1. Preface
CareCube™ Wound Treatment System is a new revolutionary aid product, which makes it
possible to carry out treatment of shin and foot wounds without any kind of lifting by the
nurse, neither in connection with lifting the leg to the desired position for treatment, nor in
order to support the leg during treatment. No more manual lifting in awkward postures, no
more lifting in order to keep the in the right position during care.
CareCube’s unique design means that it is always possible to lift the patient’s leg to the right
and most comfortable height –irrespective of whether the patient is sitting, lying supine or
on their side during treatment. The dimensions of the sides of CareCube represent the
average length of the human, tibia, femur & pelvis. This means that both tall and short
persons can be treated with one single product in the three typical positions for receiving
treatment.
CareCube’s dimensions also mean that the carer can always get access to the area in need
of treatment, as the patient’s leg can be lifted/supported in such a way that the sole of the
foot, the heel and toes are accessible. If the shin has to be accessible for treatment,
CareCube can always be positioned in such a way that it only supports/lifts under the foot
proper.
CareCube lifts with air from a small compressor, which can both inflate and deflate the
CareCube. The deflated CareCube is only a few centimetres thick making it easy to slide
underneath the patient’s foot or leg. When activated, the compressor fills the CareCube
completely in approximately 20 seconds, lifting the patient’s leg to the desired height.
During treatment, the patient’s leg rests safely and comfortably on the CareCube without
any kind of assistance from the nurse.
Furthermore, CareCube is equipped with a unique internal grid system, which ensures that
the cushion also is stable when only partially inflated. In the partially inflated state, the
CareCube forms a “cradle” around the patient’s leg, which can increase patient comfort
during long treatment procedures.
The combined weight of the CareCube, the compressor, the air hose and the backpack is
only 3,2 kg (7 Lbs.), making it very easy for the wound nurse to transport e.g. from one
patient’s home to the next, if this is required. For this purpose, the CareCube is designed
from materials, which can easily be wiped down with alcohol or similar disinfectants,
eliminating risks of cross contamination with MRSA.
The CareCube Wound Treatment System has been designed to be cost effective meaning
that one system can be left each patient for as long as treatment is necessary. In this way,
expensive “cleaning time” can be freed up for treatment purposes. Once the patient’s
treatment is over, the CareCube System may easily be cleaned and re-used at a new
location.

be taken out of service immediately, if faults, which could have an impact on
safety, are discovered. In that case, the CareCube System must be serviced by
an authorized service technician before being taken into use again.
The CareCube has a Safe Working Load (SWL) of 100 kg /220 lbs., which means
that it is safe to lift legs weighing up to 100 kg / 220 lbs. Never attempt to lift
leg(s) with a weight above the SWL
If used incorrectly the CareCube may tip over causing. Never attempt to lift a
person or objects with the CareCube. This could result in serious injury to
patient or caregiver.
Always keep eye contact with the patient and pay attention to his/her
comfort.
Never lift so high that you over stretch the patient’s knee(s)
Never let the compressor run with the air intake or air outlet blocked. This
stops the airflow used to cool the motor and can result in dangerous
overheating or even fire.
The CareCube compressor should not be run constantly for more than 10
minutes and no more than a total 30 minutes per hour.

9. Cleaning
CareCube was designed for easy cleaning:
The CareCube cushion was designed in such a way that there are no areas, where dirt or
bacteria can accumulate.
CareCube cushion:
For daily cleaning, we recommend using wet-wipes either based on ethanol or
containing anti-bacterial ingredients.
For thorough cleaning, the CareCube cushion may be cleaned in automated washing
machines or with saturated steam for up to 1 minute at 90° Celsius (194°
Fahrenheit), for 5 minutes at 85° Celsius (185° Fahrenheit) or 10 minutes at 80°
Celsius (176° Fahrenheit). This can only be done with the valve cover inserted and
closed.
CareCube compressor:
The compressor is electrically operated and runs on either 230V or 120V AC (North
America). It is not designed to be splash or waterproof.
For daily cleaning, we recommend wiping it with a damp cloth with ordinary
household detergent. Wipe thoroughly afterwards with a dry cloth.
The compressor, power cable and air hose may be cleaned with wet-wipes either
based on ethanol or containing anti-bacterial ingredients. Wipe thoroughly
afterwards with a dry cloth.

10. Daily Inspection of the CareCube System
Check that the cushion is intact and that no welds are showing signs of coming
apart.
Check that the power cable is intact without signs of cracks in the insulation.
Check that there are no signs of cracks in the housing of the compressor.
11. Annual Service Inspection of the CareCube System
The CareCube System does not need any annual service inspection.
All users should be trained to carry out a daily inspection of the CareCube
System before using it. Check the following points:
Never clean the compressor with the power cable plugged in. This can lead to
electrical shock or danger of fire, if alcohol is used for cleaning.
Never clean the CareCube System with substances containing bleach, strong
acids or alkaline substances. This may cause discoloration and/or reduce
product life significantly.

12. Components in the CareCube Wound Care System:
The CareCube Wound Care System consists of 4 components:
1. The CareCube Cushion
2. The CareCube Compressor with 3 meter power cable
3. An air hose
4. A backpack for transport

13. The Compressor: Inserting and removing the air hose
To make the CareCube System easy to use and transport, the compressor is designed to be
as small and light as possible. It is a rotation pump, which sucks in air in one end and pumps
it out at the other. This means that the compressor can both inflate and deflate the
cushion, simply by moving the air hose from one end to the other.
If the air hose is inserted in the mounting, marked with the
word “OUT” and a green dot, air is blown out and the
CareCube cushion is inflated.
If the air hose is inserted in the mounting, marked with the
word “IN” and a red dot, air is sucked in and the CareCube
cushion is deflated.
In order to insert the air hose in either mounting, the black
adaptor of the air hose is simply pushed into the mounting,
where it locks into place.
In order to remove the air hose from either mounting, the
black adaptor of the air hose is simply pulled outwards.

14. The CareCube Cushion: Manual deflation
If the valve cover is in place, it can be removed by turning it
counter clockwise.
The valve may be opened manually by pushing the white
release button down. If pushed again, the valve closes again.
This function may be used to deflate the CareCube cushion
manually.
15. The CareCube Cushion: Inserting and removing the air hose
Push the black adaptor into the valve. This locks the air hose in
place and automatically opens the valve.
In order to remove the air hose, twist the black adaptor on the
air hose a bit sideways and pull it out of the valve. This
automatically closes the valve.

16. Inflating the CareCube Cushion
Prior to lifting with the CareCube, the wound nurse must decide, which lifting height is
required and deflate the CareCube with the desired color pointing up/down. Help the
CareCube to fold correctly during deflation:
Red side up/down = Max 30 cm lifting height
Blue side up/down = Max. 40 cm lifting height
Grey side up/down = Max. 48 cm lifting height
Place the deflated CareCube with the desired color pointing
upwards underneath the patient’s leg or heel depending on
which zone should be accessible for treatment. If the patient is
incapable of lifting the foot or bending the leg, the CareCube
Cushion be slid in place using a slide sheet or similar.
Follow these steps in order to lift:
1. Chose lifting height and empty the cushion so that the
desired color points upwards
2. Place the empty CareCube Cushion under the desired
spot of the patient’s foot/leg.
3. Insert the net cable into the socket.
4. Insert the air hose in the mounting on the compressor,
marked with the word “OUT” and a green dot.
5. Insert the air hose into the valve on the CareCube
Cushion.
6. Turn on the compressor, using the switch
7. After approximately 20 seconds, the cushion is fully
inflated.

When the desired lifting height has been reached, the air hose
is taken out of the valve on the cushion with the compressor
still running. This closes the valve. Afterwards the compressor
is turned off.
NB: Thanks to the internal grid system, the CareCube Cushion
is stable, even if only partially inflated. This means that you
may chose only to lift the patient’s leg e.g. 20 cm, if this gives
the ideal height for treatment and/or the highest patient
comfort.
17. Deflating the CareCube Cushion with the compressor
Follow these steps in order to deflate the CareCube Cushion:
1. Insert the power cable into the socket.
2. Insert the air hose in the mounting on the compressor, marked with the word “IN”
and a red dot.
3. Insert the air hose into the valve on the CareCube Cushion.
4. Turn on the compressor, using the switch
5. The CareCube Cushion is now deflated. After approx. 20 seconds, the cushion is
completely empty
6. Take the air hose out of the valve on the cushion with the compressor still running.
This closes the valve. Afterwards the compressor is turned off.
