1. Purpose
The softener DuoMatik 2x4 is a water conditioner which softens hard tap water for the use in the glass or
dishwasher. It is installed between the water supply and the glass or dishwasher.
2. Positioning
Principally the softener is installed on the floor. When installing it on an existing shelf or plinth the pulleys have to
be removed.
The place of installation has to be horizontal and even. Slight inclination as it is usual in scullaries, do not affect
the function, however, the softener has to be protected against rolling away.
Adjacent to the softener there should be a water drain max. 300 mm above the floor.
Electrical connection is not necessary.
The place of installation has to be chosen in such a way that the housing cover may be removed and regenerating
salt be filled in.

3. Assembly
When the softener is supplied packed up, at first it
has to be made ready for connection:
-Remove softener from the cardboard
box and remove cardboard pads from
the plastic container.
-Connect brine suction pipe and regene-
rating drain hose at the control head.
-Fix water inlet and outlet connections
together with the safety combination at
the control head.
-Attach the temperature registration label
to the pipe bend of the water inlet.
The appliance consists of a mobile plastic container
with removable cover. Into the container which
contains regenerating salt and brine there are built in
two cartridges made of glass fiber reinforced
polyster, which are connected to each other and
filled with exchanger resin. One of the cartridges is
equipped with a control head with exchangeable
hardness section plate. In the plastic container there
is also the brine suction pipe with integrated float
valve.
Water inlet and drain are at the rear of the control head. The water inlet is equipped with a safety combination
according to DIN DVGW 1988.
4. Function
The treatment of the water is done according to the principle of ion exchange. The exchanger resin in the
cartridges has the property to bind the hardness forming salt ions from the passing untreated water and to give to
the water other non-hardening salt ions.
The exchange resin has a limited capacity which depends on the hardness of the untreated water. When
exhausted, it has to be regenerated.
In order to have continuously softened water, in case of exhaustion one of the cartridges the DuoMatik 2x4
automatically switches to the second cartridge and the exhausted cartridge is regenerated.
The regeneration intervals are controlled by the hardness section disc, which has to be adjusted to the hardness
of the untreated water.

5. Installation
The softener is connected to the untreated water inlet before the glass or dishwasher. When connecting please
consider the connection diagram and the indications of the enclosed line drawing.
The softener is tested according to DVGW in connection with a Winterhalter Gastronom dishwashing machine.
Within the scope of DVGW it may be connected with the drinking water supply without intermediate connection of
a particular safety device.
6. Initial Commissioning
The initial commissioning has to be executed according to the "Commissioning Instructions Softener DuoMatik
2x4" by a Winterhalter trained after-sales-service engineer. Therefore please contact this company when the
softener has been installed.
7. Operation
The operation of the softener runs fully automatically after commissioning. Only regenerating salt has to be filled in
from time to time. Please only use unadulterated boiled salt (granulation 8 to 15 mm, or as tablets) which is
marked as regenerating salt for softeners.
Please take care that the regenerating salt in the container always covers the water level (height approx. 150
mm).
8. Maintenance
The function of the softener has to be checked regularly, at least twice a year by the Winterhalter after-sales-
service. If necessary, the inside of the container has to be cleaned.
Protect softener from frost.
Maintenance work is not necessary. The softener may be cleaned on the outside with appropriate plastic cleaning
agents.
9. Special Hints
When operating with hot water, please ensure that the maximum water temperature does not exceed 50°C.
