Just like in any other cycling activity there
is a risk using this product. When using a
cargo bike, you are automatically responsible
for any consequences that may arise. It
is therefore important that you have read
the user guide carefully and that you ride
responsibly and fulfil the recommended
maintenance for your bike at all times.
Please pass on this information to any other
person who may be using the bike. This
includes passengers. Failure to read the
guide and act on its guidance can result in
injury, and in the worst possible scenario,
even have fatal consequences.

Thank you for choosing a Winther Kangaroo cargo bike.
The Winther Kangaroo cargo bikes have been developed with
considerable care, and with particular focus on safety. We have
been making trikes since 1932, and cargo bikes since 2006. All
Winther Kangaroo cargo bikes are hand-assembled and test-ridden
at the factory in Denmark and are built according to customer
specifications.
Before using your Winther Kangaroo for the first time, please read
this manual carefully. This will help ensure you get the best out of your
cargo bike.
If your Winther Kangaroo bike has an electric motor, please refer to
the separate motor manufacturers manual which should also be read
carefully before using the bike. Both manuals can be found on
www.wintherbikes.com or you may request a copy by contacting us on
info@wintherbikes.com.
Please be aware that this is a three-wheeled cargo bike, and therefore
it rides dierently from a two-wheeled bicycle. We recommend test-
riding it somewhere quiet and peaceful before loading passengers
and setting out into the trac. Feeling familiar with your cargo bike
before carrying passengers is very important.
This user guide includes both guidance and useful tips, so please take
your time to read it carefully. If you have any questions, please contact
your dealer or Winther.
We hope you and your family will get a lot of joy from your Winther
Kangaroo cargo bike.
Congratulations on your new Winther
Kangaroo cargo bike

Winther Kangaroo cargo bikes have three wheels, and therefore the
handling characteristics are dierent from a two-wheel bicycle.
To begin with please spend a little time getting used to riding the
Winther Kangaroo cargo bike without any children in the cabin.
Start o by practising turning, stopping, and starting o.
If your model has an electric motor, start the first ride without the
motor being switched on, or at its lowest setting, to get used to the
bike and the motor system.
Get used to changing gear. Changing gear before you reach a
junction is particularly important on trikes with external gears.
Max. loading capacity is 100 kg. Spread the weight of the load.
Always follow trac rules and the law.
Ride according to trac conditions, so that you are always in control.
Stop if your bike makes any abnormal noises, or any parts are missing
or damaged. Always contact your Winther Kangaroo dealer in such
instances.
Only use Winther Kangaroo authorised accessories. Never use other
seats or install anything else not intended for Winther bikes.
Always wear a helmet. This applies to both rider and passengers.
Passengers must always be securely strapped in, and the hood front
must be fastened (either closed or up) when riding.
Always use the parking brake when the bike is stationary for short
periods.
General safety
Safety precautions for the use of a Winther Kangaroo cargo bike:

8
Safety precautions - riding with children
The Winther Kangaroo cargo bikes are designed specifically for carrying
children, with the focus on safety and ergonomics. Always remember the
following safety precautions when carrying children:

WINTHERBIKES.COM
9
Always ensure that children are securely fastened in the specially
developed Winther seat or bench. There can be a risk of the bike
tipping forward if there is no rider on the bike and a child moves to
the front of the cabin.
The seat belt must be suciently tightened to prevent it from
slipping down. You can use special belt pads available as an optional
accessory. The belt buckle should rest on the child’s stomach or lower
chest. To avoid any risk of choking it must not be near the neck.
Never leave the bike with children sitting in the cabin. You must always
be able to see the passengers.
Always help children in and out of your Winther Kangaroo cargo bike if
they need it. It can also be necessary to act as a counterbalance when
they are getting in. This all depends on the size of the child.
Always wear a helmet. This applies to rider and passengers.
Make sure the arms of the children, their clothes, toys, or the like
cannot get caught in the wheels when the bike is moving.
Unless using a baby seat or a Winther ISO-Fix seat solution we do not
recommend carrying small children in a cargo bike until they can sit
upright. You can use a supporting toddler seat cushion that is available
as an optional accessory to compensate for their smaller size.
Babies: Children can ride in the cargo bike from the age of 3 months
if using either a Weber baby seat or a Winther ISO-Fix seat solution
mounted onto the Winther console.
Toddlers: Children from the age of 10 months and up to 18 months
can benefit from using a toddler seat support cushion that provides
greater stability and comfort.

10
Check that the steering, brakes, pedals, and lights work to avoid
problems during the ride.
The handlebars should move smoothly without resistance
when turning both to the right and to the left.
When the left brake lever is activated, the bicycle must brake
on both front wheels.
When the right brake lever is activated, the bicycle must
brake on the rear wheel. If the bike is equipped with a foot
brake, the rear brake is operated by stepping backwards on
the pedals.
The pedals should be able to turn without resistance.
Adapt your speed to the trac conditions. If turning sharply or
riding at a speed of more than 8 km/h when taking a turn, there is
a risk of the bike tipping over, which can lead to injuries. Therefore
bring your speed down before turning sharply.
Check the recommended tyre pressure (5 bar) regularly.
Test the parking brake. When the bike is at a standstill, pull the left
brake lever and turn the little black knob to the left while holding in
the lever.
You should only use the parking brake when the bike is stationary for
short periods, as the hydraulic brakes can be damaged by long-
term pressure.
Before setting o

We recommend using an approved ring lock for longer parking
periods. Never attempt to move the bike when the lock is in use as
this can damage the spokes.
Never leave the bike with passengers in the cabin, even when the
parking brake is on.
Keep spare key(s), receipt, and manual in a safe place. Make a note
of the key mark and number in case you need to order a spare from
a dealer.
If you find any defects or deficiencies on the bike, please contact
your dealer immediately.
When you start using your bike, it is very important that the back
wheel is tightened after no more than four weeks of use.
The back wheel is exposed to a lot of stress due to the integrated
motor and the disk brakes. During the first period of use, the
spokes stretch when you start o and when you brake, which is why
tightening the spokes on the back wheel is important for your safety.
Failure to tighten the back wheel can cause damaged or broken
spokes.
CHECK THE WHEELS AND SPOKES REGULARLY!
ESPECIALLY FOR E-KANGAROO: REMEMBER TO GET A BIKE MECHANIC
TO TIGHTEN THE BACK WHEEL/SPOKES WITHIN 4 WEEKS FROM DATE OF
PURCHASE

12
Ride carefully and with consideration for others to avoid dangerous
situations.
Adjust your speed to trac conditions. Be careful when going round
sharp bends and corners. Ride carefully when the trac is heavy and
when the roads are uneven or hilly.
The braking distance of a cargo bike is longer than the braking
distance of a regular bicycle, as they are much heavier. It therefore
takes longer time to come to a stop. Please avoid sudden and sharp
braking as this may cause an accident.
Be aware that a Winther Kangaroo is wider than a regular bicycle.
Be careful when crossing roads and paths. Keep an eye on what is
ahead and your position on the road.
Always use lights when riding at dusk and after sunset.
Keep the front of the hood top fastened when riding. It can either
be rolled up and fastened using the hooks and straps or rolled down
and fastened on the hooks.
We recommend using the insect protection net and/or sunscreen
when riding with the hood top front rolled up.
Tip: If moving the bike up unto a kerb we recommend getting o the
bike, lifting it by the carrier and reversing up on to the kerb.
When sitting on the bike at a standstill, it is important not to keep
the handlebars turned. A fixed turn with weight on the bike gives
inappropriate pressure to the rear wheel, which strains the spokes.
When riding

If you do have an accident on your Winther Kangaroo, check your
passengers and yourself for injuries. If necessary, seek medical
assistant immediately.
Once you are sure everyone is safe, check the trike thoroughly.
An accident can cause damage that may not be immediately
apparent, but that can cause a sudden and disastrous accident.
We therefore recommend that you have a mechanic give the trike
a thorough check after any accident.
In the event of an accident
Regular care and ongoing maintenance
A Winther Kangaroo cargo bike is built to last. Cleaning and
maintenance on a regular basis can extend the lifetime even
further. We recommend having your bike checked and serviced
at least annually, by a professional bike mechanic and in
accordance with the plan made together with your Winther dealer
(please be referred to the chapter “Servicing a Winther Kangaroo
Cargo Bike”).
Technical repairs and modifications should always be performed
by a Winther Kangaroo dealer or a professional bicycle mechanic,
as expertise and special tools can be required. Unauthorised
repairs can damage the bike incalidated your warranty and cause
accidents.
The condition of the bike will of course be aected over time
by such factors as the weight it carries, the way you ride it,
frequency of use, storage conditions, weather, temperature, dirt,
road surfaces, etc. Therefore, always keep an eye on parts that
can wear out including: Tyres, wheel rims, hubs, spokes, bearings,
chain and sprockets, brakes and brake shoes, gear- and brake
cables, safety belts and buckles.
General riding guide

14
IMPORTANT: The brake disks and pads of an Winther Kangaroo with
motor must cope with extra strain as they can reach higher speeds.
They must therefore be checked regularly.
Please keep an eye on the battery. Be sure to charge the battery as
often as possible as this will extend the lifetime of the battery.
Also note that the Winther Kangaroo with motor in particular requires
more frequent service and should be better protected from the
weather when parked outdoor long-term. We recommend using a
garage cover that covers the entire bike.
If any spokes are broken or damaged replace all of them at once. If
only a few broken or damaged spokes are replaced, the load may
have aected the other spokes already, and they may break shortly
after. You should therefore always make sure to replace all the spokes
at the same time.
Do remember to have the rear wheel of the bike tightened after
the first four weeks of riding or after approx. 200-300 kilometres,
depending on which occurs first, as the spokes during the first
period are stretched during setting o and braking.
The hood can be washed using water, detergent and a soft brush or
sponge while it is still on the trike. Do not machine wash as this may
damage the hood.
Remember that the hood top is rainproof but not waterproof. We
recommend storing the bike under cover, e.g., under a waterproof
garage cover. You can extend the hood top’s lifetime by avoiding
leaving the bike in direct sunlight for longer periods or by using a
garage cover for protection.

For long-term storage, it is important that the bike is kept in a dry
and ventilated place.
Avoid leaving a wet bike covered for a longer period, as this
may cause rust on the bike and mould on the hood top and seat
cushions.
Care when required
If your Winther Kangaroo has been exposed to sand, salt, or mud,
then wash it using a cleaning detergent intended for bikes and rinse
with clean water.
Do not use steam or a pressure washer or similar
Wipe the bike and apply oil/grease on important parts, including the
chain, bearings, wheel hubs and other moving parts.
Wipe o surplus oil and/or grease with a cloth.
Make sure that no oil or grease gets on the brakes / discs brakes as
this can cause a significantly poorer braking performance, which can
lead to serious injuries.
Clean the disc brakes with a brake cleaner and never put oil on the
disc brake pads or rotors.
Ask your dealer for recommendations on type of detergent, oil and
grease for your bike given the conditions where you live.
Correct maintenance will extend the lifetime of your bike. Lack of
maintenance may invalidated your warranty.

16
Ensure your Winther Kangaroo is serviced on a regular basis. All
service checks and repairs must be performed by your Winther
Kangaroo dealer, or an authorized bike mechanic.
Together with your Winther dealer you will put together a service
plan based on the way you expect to use your bike. Consult
your dealer to put together a service plan that suits your needs
and requirements. Be aware that an E-Kangaroo will need more
maintenance than a regular bicycle.
Remember to tighten the rear wheel and spokes after the first 4
weeks of riding. The first service should be performed after approx.
200-300 kilometres (depending on what occurs first).
Servicing a Winther Kangaroo cargo bike
For insurance purposes, a Winther Kangaroo is regarded as a normal
bike and is therefore usually covered by your family insurance up
to a certain coverage level. We do recommend, however, that you
contact your insurance company to check what applies for you. You
may need a bike insurance with extra coverage.
Make sure that the frame number is listed on your receipt. If not,
contact your dealer immediately. On your bike the frame number is
engraved on the left side of the rear frame.
