SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
MOST ACCIDENTS OCCUR BECAUSE OF NEGLECT OR CARELESSNESS.
AVOID NEEDLESS ACCIDENTS BY FOLLOWING ALL OF THE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS LISTED BELOW.
•Machinery should be operated only by those who are
responsible and are authorized to do so.
•Stop the engine, lower all equipment, lock the brakes,
and remove the ignition key before dismounting from the
tractor.
•Never stand between tractor and implement while tractor
is being backed to hitch.
•Loose fitting clothing should not be worn, to avoid catch-
ing on various parts.
•Detach implement in area where children normally do not
play.
•When performing adjustments or maintenance on an
implement, first lower it to the ground or block it securely
at a workable height.
•Only a qualified operator should be permitted on tractor
when in operation; no riders allowed.
•Make certain everyone is in the clear before starting
tractor or raising or lowering equipment.
•Operate the tractor and implement only while seated in
the driver’s seat.
•
Reduce speed when transporting mounted implements
to avoid bouncing and momentary loss of steering
control.
•A heavy load can cause instability of the tractor. Use
extreme care during road travel. Slow down on turns and
watch out for bumps. Tractor may need front counter-
weights to counter-balance the weight of the implement.
•Reduce speed on hillsides or curves so there is no
danger of tipping.
•Avoid driving too close to the edge of ditches or creeks.
•Do not transport implement on public roads without
reflectors and slow moving vehicle emblem in daylight
and with approved warning lights at night and other
periods of poor visibility.
•Due to the width of some implements, use extra caution
on highways, farm roads, and when approaching gates.
•Always be sure the implement is in the proper position for
transport.
•Keep alert and watch the front as well as the rear when
working with the implement.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS (continued)
Safety of the operator is one of the main concerns in designing and developing a new piece of equipment.
Designers and manufacturers build in as many safety features as possible. However, every year many
accidents occur which could have been avoided by a few seconds of thought and a more careful approach to
handling equipment. You, the operator, can avoid many accidents by observing the following precautions in
this section. To avoid personal injury, study the following precautions and insist those working with you, or for
you, follow them.
In order to provide a better view, certain photographs or illustrations in this manual may show an assembly
with a safety shield removed. However, equipment should never be operated in this condition. Keep all shields
in place. If shield removal becomes necessary for repairs, replace the shield prior to use.
To prevent injury or death, use a tractor equipped with a Roll-Over Protective System (ROPS). Do not paint
over, remove or deface any safety signs or warning signs on your equipment. Observe all safety signs and
practice the instruction on them.
Never exceed the limits of a piece of machinery. If its ability to do a job, or to do so safely, is in question -
DON’T TRY IT.
Do not modify the equipment in any way. Unauthorized modification may impair the function and/or safety and
could affect the life of the equipment.
In addition to the design and configuration of this implement, including Safety Signs and Safety Equipment,
hazard control and accident prevention are dependent upon the awareness, concern, prudence, and proper
training of personnel involved in the operation, transport, maintenance, and storage of the machine. Refer also
to Safety Messages and Operation Instructions in each of the appropriate sections of the Tractor, Skid Steer,
and Implement Manuals. Pay close attention to the Safety Signs affixed to the Tractor, Skid Steer, and the
Implement.
Replace any CAUTION, WARNING, DANGER or instruction safety sign that is not readable or is missing.
Location of such safety signs is indicated in this booklet.
Never use alcoholic beverages or drugs which can hinder alertness or coordination while operating this
equipment. Consult your doctor about operating this machine while taking prescription medications.
Review the safety instructions with all users annually.
This equipment is dangerous to children and persons unfamiliar with its operation. The operator should be a
responsible adult familiar with farm machinery and trained in this equipment’s operations. Do not allow per-
sons to operate or assemble this unit until they have read this manual and have developed a thorough
understanding of the safety precautions and of how it works.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS (continued)
Improper use of loaders to handle round bales can
result in serious injury or death to the tractor/loader oper-
ator. This could be caused by the bale rolling back down
the loader into the operator’s station.
For optimum stability and visibility:
• Do not handle bales that exceed the bale weight
limitations of the loader.
• Carry the bale slowly and as low as possible to the
ground.
• When handling round bales on a slope, always
approach the bale with the tractor facing uphill.
• Never use the tractor/loader to stop a rolling bale.
• Only use a tractor equipped with a ROPS cab or roll-
over protective structure.
• Use particular care when working on inclines and hill-
sides.
When stacking bales, ALWAYS MAKE SURE BALES
ARE PLACED SO THE STACK IS STABLE.
Keep all bystanders at a safe distance. REMEMBER –
FALLING BALES CAN ROLL OR TUMBLE.
CAUTION!
For operator safety, always keep bale in front of
tractor hood. NEVER position bale back over opera-
tor. ALWAYS BE CAREFUL!
CAUTION!

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS (continued)
Safety is a primary concern in the design and manufacture of our products. Unfortunately, our efforts to provide
safe equipment can be wiped out by a single careless act of an operator.
Know your controls and how to stop tractor, engine, and loader quickly in an emergency. Read this manual
and the one provided with your tractor or skid steer.
In addition to the design and configuration of equipment, hazard control and accident prevention are
dependent upon the awareness, concern, prudence and proper training of personnel involved in the operation,
transport, maintenance and storage of equipment.
It has been said, “The best safety device is an informed, careful operator.” We ask you to be that kind of an
operator. It is the operator’s responsibility to read and understandALL Safety and Operating instructions in the
manual and to follow these. Accidents can be avoided.
Train all new personnel and review instructions frequently with existing workers. A person who has not read
and understood all operating and safety instructions is not qualified to operate the machine. An untrained oper-
ator exposes himself and bystanders to possible serious injury or death.
Working with unfamiliar equipment can lead to careless injuries. Read this manual, and the manual for your
tractor, before assembly or operating, to acquaint yourself with the machines. It is the equipment owner’s
responsibility, if this machine is used by any person other than yourself, is loaned or rented, to make certain
that the operator, prior to operating:
1. Reads and understands the operator’s manuals.
2. Is instructed in safe and proper use.
SAFETY TRAINING
Do not allow children to operate this machine.
OPERATION
Be sure tractor or skid steer is properly counterbal-
anced with weights before attempting to lift any load.
Using the bucket tilt cylinders, adjust the angle of the
fork tines so they are parallel with the ground.
Adjust height of fork tines to enter the pallet to be
handled. Always keep the load or pallet as close to the
forklift main frame as possible.
Never exceed the lift capacity of the tractor/loader
or skid steer used with the forklift.
CAUTION!
The ULF-346, VLF-7646 and SSPF-40 Front Loader
Forks are NOT to be used for large round bales, as
this would create a hazardous condition.
CAUTION!
Avoid carrying loose or shiftable loads. Falling
items could cause injury.
CAUTION!

Before operating equipment: if you have any questions regarding the proper assembly or operation, contact
your dealer or representative.
How to Install Safety Signs:
SAFETY SIGNS
STARTING AND STOPPING SAFETY
Remove the bucket from your front end loader. Check
your loader to make sure it is in good working order.
Check all frame mounting bolts to make sure they are
tight.
Loaders that attach to the tractor frame rails should
have a cross-tie installed for stability.
Refer to the “exploded view” of the Loader Fork on
page 20 of this manual.
Assemble the two lift brackets (Ref. #3) on the main
frame (Ref. #1) with the 5/8” x 3” I.D. U-bolts. Leave the
U-bolts loose.
NOTE: The lift channel brackets are supplied with 1”
diameter pins to fit your loader. If your loader requires
11/8” pins, it will be necessary for the hole diameter in the
channel brackets to be drilled out to 15/32” (1.156”) and
ask your dealer to order 11/8” diameter pins. The 11/8” pins
are part #830318. Be sure to indicate if two or four 11/8”
pins are required.
If your loader requires 11/4” diameter pins, please ask
your dealer to order adapter bushings (part #830319). Be
sure to indicate how many adapter bushings are
required.
If your tractor loader has a bucket QuickAttach feature,
check with your dealer on the availability of adapter
brackets for your brand and model loader.
Connect the above assembly to the loader arms using
the bottom hole in the channel and attach the upper con-
trol cylinder to the top hole in the lift channels. Center the
main frame (side to side) with your loader arms and
tighten the four (4) 5/8” x 3” U-Bolts.
The lower hole positions in the lift channels can be
used to obtain more angle movement. However, if the
frame becomes too parallel with the loader lift arms, the
loader may not have enough power (mechanical advan-
tage) to bring the frame back.
NOTE: The Ford Model 7109, 7209, 7210 and 7410
Loaders require special mounting brackets instead of the
standard lift channels supplied. Order #830330 for this
application.
NOTE: Generally, it is not recommended to have the tilt
cylinders located any closer than 10-12 inches to the
main loader lift arms. Check the spacing of mounting
pins on your loader bucket and use this as a guide.
If tilt cylinders are located too close to the loader arms,
they may go “over center” when fully extended. If this
happens, damage may occur to the cylinders and/or
mounting brackets.
NOTE: The Model VLF-7655 and VLF-7646 have
special quick-attach brackets on the frame. No lift
channel brackets are required.
INSTRUCTIONS (continued)
ASSEMBLY –
TRACTOR LOADERS
ASSEMBLY – SKID STEER AND
TRACTOR LOADERS
Remove the bucket from your skid steer unit and con-
nect the main frame of the pallet fork to the universal
quick-attach coupler.
Raise the loader and main frame slightly so that the
bottom of the main frame is about one or two inches off
the ground. Engage tractor parking brake and shut off
the engine.
Remove the forkshaft from the main frame by remov-
ing the lock bolt on end of the forkshaft and slide it out
until about 12” remain through one end of the frame.
Place one fork locking collar on the shaft and place the
fork tine into position and slide the forkshaft through
them. Place another lock collar on the forkshaft and slide
into the center support until the shaft extends about 8”
past the center support.
Place another fork locking collar and place second fork
tine into position and continue sliding the forkshaft until it
is all the way through the second fork.
Slide the last locking collar on the fork shaft and then
continue sliding the forkshaft until it is through the last
shaft support.
Rotate the forkshaft until the clip on the end lines up
with the hole in the end support bracket. Replace the lock
bolt and tighten.
Slide the fork tines into the desired position and tight-
en the lock collars on each side of each fork tine.
ADJUSTING TINE WIDTH
1. Block up the forklift frame.
2. Loosen lock bolts and slide forklift tines to desired set-
ting. Each tine must be the same distance from the
center of the forklift. Tighten lock bolts.
IMPORTANT: Keep forklift tines adjusted to maxi-
mum width for better load stability.
To help prevent personal injury, stand clear of frame
and loader. Keep feet away from underside of main
frame.
CAUTION!

up to you, the operator.
The use of any loader attachment is NOT recommended on tractor with a tricycle wheel arrangement. Tricycle
type tractors are unstable for front loader use.
A heavy load can cause instability in driving a power unit. Make sure the front or rear of the power unit is
properly counter-balanced with weights. Always drive slowly – especially around turns. An unstable power unit
could steer badly and possibly tip over, causing injury or death.
When the use of hand tools is required to perform any part of assembly, installation, adjustment, maintaining,
repairing, removal, or moving the implement, be sure the tools used are designed and recommended by the
tool manufacturer for that specific task.
Personal protection equipment including safety glasses, safety shoes, and gloves are recommended during
assembly, installation, operation, adjustment, maintaining, repairing, removal, or moving the attachment.
Always use two people to handle heavy, unwieldy components during assembly, installation, removal, or
moving the loader attachment.
Never place any part of your body where it would be in danger if movement should occur during assembly,
installation, operation, maintaining, repairing, removal, or moving the implement.
Do not allow others to ride on the power unit with an operator. Riders are subject to injury such as being struck
by foreign objects or being thrown off. Riders obstruct the operator’s view resulting in unsafe operation. Never
allow anyone to ride on the implement!
INSTRUCTIONS
CAUTION!
Be sure your tractor and loader is in good condi-
tion. Read all the safety precautions and make sure
all tractor operators are familiar with the safety rules
of operation.
W ARNING!
A heavy load can cause instability in driving a
tractor. Make sure the rear of the tractor is properly
counterbalanced with weights or a bale. Always
drive slowly – especially around turns. An unstable
tractor could steer badly and possibly tip over,
causing injury or death.
The model ULF-355 with 55” tubular forks can handle
large round hay bales up to 3,000 lbs.
The model ULF-346 with 46” solid pallet forks can han-
dle loads up to 4,000 lbs. Load ratings are figured with
the load about 20” in front of the fork lift frame and even-
ly distributed between the two fork tines. NEVER put load
at the ends of the fork tines – the lift capacity at the ends
of the forks is only about 1/3of the total lift capacity.
WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER BENT FORKS.
NOTE: Loaders with only one hydraulic cylinder in the
center of the loader to tilt the bucket or attachment may
be used with the addition of an optional center bracket
(order bracket #830320).
Be sure tires and rims are in good condition. Inflate
tires to the proper recommended air pressure.
It is recommended that a ROPS (Roll-Over Protection
Structure) and a seat belt be installed on all tractors.
Contact your local dealer for a ROPS for your tractor.
The operator is responsible for the safe operation of
this equipment. The operator must be properly trained.
Operators should be familiar with the tractor, loader and
loader attachment, and all safety practices before start-
ing operation. Read the safety rules and safety signs on
pages 3-13.
TRACTOR AND LOADER/SKID
STEER REQUIREMENTS AND
PREPARATION
The required size of the tractor and front loader or skid
steer will be determined by the weight of the load to be
handled.
Always use a tractor and front loader or skid steer large
enough to safely handle the load.
The Universal Loader Fork attachment is designed to
fit most farm tractor double-cylinder front-end loaders.
Optional brackets are available to fit some popular quick
coupler front-end loaders.
The model SSPF-40 Skid Steer Pallet Fork is designed
for skid steer power units having the universal bucket
attach system (same as original Bobcat design). Skid
steer units must have rated lifting capacity greater than
or equal to the loads to be handled.
Both the Universal Loader Fork and the Skid Steer
Pallet Fork can handle loads up to 4000 pounds. Load
must be equally distributed on both fork tines.
NOTE: The 4000 pound load rating is figured with a load
center being 20 inches in front of the forklift frame.
The Models VLF-7655 and VLF-7646 are designed for
Versatile/Ford/New Holland Model 256, 276 and 9030 Bi-
Directional Tractors.
The Model TV-140 Bi-Directional Tractor requires spe-
cial bolt on brackets.
The Universal Loader Fork will also work on the rear of
tractors with a Category II 3 pt. hitch.
Make sure your tractor and loader are of sufficient size
to safely handle the loads you want to move.
Check your tractor and front loader or skid steer to
make sure they are in good working condition. Check all
frame mounting bolts to make sure they are tight.
Loaders that attach to the tractor frame rails should
have a cross-tie installed for stability.
Check the hydraulic system. Be sure the hydraulic oil
and filter have been serviced according to the manufac-
turer’s recommendations.
It is recommended that tractors and skid steers be
equipped with a roll-over protective structure
(ROPS) or cab.
CAUTION!
W ARNING!
The use of any loader attachment is NOT recom-
mended on tractors with a tricycle wheel arrange-
ment. Tricycle type tractors are unstable for front
loader use.

stood. They are there for your safety as well as the safety of others. The safe use of this machine is strictly
up to you, the operator.

To help prevent personal injury, stand clear of frame
and loader. Keep feet away from underside of main
frame.

CAUTION!

EQUIPMENT SAFETY GUIDELINES
CAUTION!
