he 5000 TriCoder is our powerful, low cost, easy-to-use data collection portable bar
code reader. Data collected with this unit is stored in the unit and later uploaded to a PC
(or any computer) by USB or Serial port. This the fourth generation of the Worth Data
TriCoder, which now offers more powerful features that are easier to use, while still maintaining
compatibility with programs written for the earlier generations of Worth Data TriCoders.
Patented Voice Prompts
The TriCoder’s patented voice
prompts allow for faster data entry,
operation in extreme cold or poor
lighting, and any language flexibility. It
operates as an on-line, non-portable reader
too!
Small but Powerful
It is small but very powerful. It is the easiest to
program portable in the industry. Despite its
small size and weight (less than 11 ounces with
battery), this unit can scan over 50,000 individ-
ual UPC numbers into memory before upload-
ing. If you are scanning part numbers and
entering a quantity you can easily scan a ware-
house with millions of items before needing to
upload the data.
Simple Uploads
Each bar code scan and keyed entry is stored for
later uploading to the host. You can upload
directly into your program, easily update an Excel
worksheet or even save the data into a file format
of your choice.

The Industry’s only Portable Batch Reader with Voice Prompts
512 Memory
All 512K of the quoted memory is available for user
data storage (This is 50,000 individual 10 digit bar
codes); no memory is taken up for programs or
voice messages.
USB Interface Standard
All models of the TriCoder have USB built-in. The
TriCoder can be defined as a USB HID keyboard,
uploading data as though the data had been keyed
directly into any application as keyed data. The
TriCoder can also operate in full speed USB mode
for data upload to a file, table downloads, program
uploads & downloads, voice downloads and
firmware updates, (the latest firmware is always
available on our website) on a PC with Windows® 7,
Vista, XP, E, 2000 and 98SE.
Serial Interface
In addition to the standard USB interface on all
models of the TriCoder, Serial RS-232 interface is
also available - all you need to do is order the
TriCoder with a C24 Serial Cable.
Your Choice of 1D or 2D Scanners
The TriCoder is available with your choice of bar
code scanners: Choice of tethered laser scanners for
the T5000, or the high speed Integrated 1D Laser
built right into the top for both the LT5001 &
LT5001H. The LT5000 model offers a more powerful
1D laser scan engine with increased range along with
an optional aiming dot for ease in scanning. For 2D
bar code reading you can choose the LT5020 or the
LT5020H with a omni-directional 2D scan engine.
Easy Uploading
Windows® program are furnished with each TriCoder
at no charge for lightning fast uploading of data. With
the TriCoder in USB keyboard mode, data can be also
uploaded directly into any application program or into
“notepad” using Windows or ac. Simply plug the
TriCoder into the appropriate interface cable and
select data upload from the TriCoder menu.
No Programming Necessary
ost users don’t have to do any programming on the
TriCoder because there are 3 default programs built-
in. The default programs are for typical inventory
data collections and provide the following:
Default Program 0: Records all bar codes read.

scanned and quantities keyed in.

Easily Created Custom Programs
The TriCoder comes with its own built-in program
generator. You just describe the text and sequence
of prompts plus the input data characteristics. The
TriCoder then generates a working program with
the custom prompts and editing included.
Programming is so easy with the TriCoder, even a
novice programmer can master TriCoder
programming in 10 minutes. Up to 4 programs,
(3 user written) can reside within. It’s powerful
too! Each program can have up to 97 steps.
Statements possible include: Data Entry, Yes/No
Branching, Branching based on data entered,
Looping, Time Stamping, and Date Stamping. For

website.
Other features supported are:
Automatic Incrementing, Automatic Entry of
Quantity One with Physical Inventory, Duplicate
Data Prevention, Validation Tables, Tables for
Updating, and output to a serial mobile printers.
Output data formats are very flexible, allowing
almost any format including CR separated data
items, comma delimited files, and TXT CSV flat
files.
Virtual Tricoder
Complicated programs can be developed with a
Windows program, the Virtual TriCoder, that
allows you to develop a program on your PC.
You can also test the program on the PC,
making any necessary changes, before down-
loading the finished program via the serial or
usb port to the TriCoder. This program is
shipped standard with all model TriCoders and
is also available at our Website in the “TriCoder
Downloads” section.
Voice Prompting in Addition to the
LCD Display
You can pre-record up to 100 seconds of
custom audible messages in addition to the
standard displayable prompts on the 15 line
color LCD.
Voice Prompts are an exclusive and patented
feature only available on the TriCoder. Your
pre-recorded messages play at the times you
have specified in any language or sequence.
Voice messages are not required but they can be
very beneficial in dimly lit or extreme cold areas,
can facilitate faster scanning, and can be in any
language.

Double Duty
The TriCoder can also function as a stationary
on-line reader, performing double duty. For
example, the retailer can use the TriCoder as a
Point of Sale reader (from wall power) with an
optional laser stand, and it can be used as a
portable to take a physical inventory after hours.
TriCoder Utilities
A Utilities CD RO is shipped with every
TriCoder at no additional charge. The
included Integrated Hardware Utility
support serial and USB providing support to:
1) Upload data to a file on the host computer
2) Download “Lookup Tables” to the TriCoder
3) Develop and test custom programs before
downloading to the TriCoder
4) Download new Firmware upgrades
5) Record & anage Voice Files.
