needstheDoepferDIYSynth
boardtowork,itissold
separately.Ifyouhavebought
abundle,chancesarethatthe
dealerhasalreadymounted
theboardforyou.Ifnot–the
installationisextremelyeasy
andstraightforward,just
pleasereadthefollowingsteps
carefullytoavoidproblems.
1. IfyourDIYSynthis
equippedwithatempco,
unplugitscablefromthe
onboardsocket.
2.Plugthetempcoconnector
intherespectivesocket 1
onthebackontheKMSunit.
Itislocatedtotheleftofthe
powerheader 2.
3.Now,pushtheDIYSynth
onalltheheaders 3,very
gently.Observethegoldpins
carefullytoavoidbending
them.Pleasepayanextra
attentiontothesingle+5V
goldpin 4.
4.Clear42hpspaceinyour
cabinetandturnthepower
off.Nowplugintheribbon
cable 5tothebusboard,
observingtheredstripe
orientation.Itindicatesthe
–12Vrailonthemodule(dot
mark) 2andthebusboard.
CAUTION! Unliketheoth-
erXaocmodules,theKMS
isNOTsecuredagainst
reversedpowerconnection!

Thepanelhasbeenlaidoutin
mostobviousmonosynthstyle
manner.Wetookadvantage
ofalltheinternalpatchpoints
providedbyDoepfer.Also,
therearenormalledconnec-
tionsmadebehindthepanel
soyoucanusetheKMSasa
selfcontainedanalogsynth
voicewithoutevenplugging
anypatchcablesin.Thesexed
connectionsaremarkedby
withrespectivefunctiontyped
withintheBLACk BOXES.Ofcourse,
therealfunstartswhenyou
breakthembysimplypatching
anythingintotheirrespective
inputjacks.
Thesynthconsistsof7mod-
ules:VCO 7,LFO 8,VCF 9,
VCA 10 ,ADSR 11 ,slewlimiter
12 andinverter 13 .Allofthese
canbeusedindependently.For
furtherinformation,pleasere-
fertoDIYSynth’sownmanual.
MODIFICATIONS
We’vemadesomeminormods
totheapplicationsuggestedby
Doepfer.FixedVCFoutputsare
nowmixedindifferentcongu-
rationandtheVCAoffsetcan
beadjustedbythetrimpot 6
ontheback.
Bydesign,theVCFresonanceis
providedbyfeedingtheoutput
backin.Wefounditfunto
actuallyopenupthefeedback
loopforroutingthesignalout-
side(anyoutput)andback
(
res fdbck in
socket 14 ).Now,
youcanobtainsomeinterest-
ingresultswithexternaltreat-
mentthrougheffects,lters,
etc.Happyexperimenting!
