ensure the continued safe operation of your printer.
Your Xerox®printer and supplies are designed and tested to eet strict safety require ents. These
include safety agency evaluation and certification, and co pliance with electro agnetic regulations
and established environ ental standards.
The safety and environ ent testing and perfor ance of this product have been verified using Xerox®
aterials only.
Note: Unauthorized alterations, which can include the addition of new functions or connection
of external devices, can affect the product certification. For ore infor ation, contact your
Xerox representative.

Safety

Electrical Safety
GGeenneerraall GG iiddeelliinneess
WARNING:
• Do not push objects into slots or openings on the printer. Touching a voltage point or
shorting out a part could result in fire or electric shock.
• Do not re ove the covers or guards that are fastened with screws unless you are installing
optional equip ent and are instructed to do so. Power off the printer when perfor ing
these installations. Disconnect the power cord when re oving covers and guards for
installing optional equip ent. Except for user-installable options, there are no parts that
you can aintain or service behind these covers.
The following are hazards to your safety:
• The power cord is da aged or frayed.
• Liquid is spilled into the printer.
• The printer is exposed to water.
• The printer e its s oke, or the surface is unusually hot.
• The printer e its unusual noise or odors.
• The printer causes a circuit breaker, fuse, or other safety device to activate.
If any of these conditions occur, do the following:
1. Power off the printer i ediately.
2. Disconnect the power cord fro the electrical outlet.
3. Call an authorized service representative.

Before operating your printer, read the following instructions carefully. For details, contact your Xerox
representative.
WARNING:
• The electrical supply for the device ust eet the require ents stated on the data plate on
the rear of the device. If you are not sure that your electrical supply eets the require ents,
consult your local electricity provider or a licensed electrician.
• Do not use an extension cord.
• Do not re ove or odify the power cord.
Refer to these instructions to ensure the continued and safe operation of your printer.
• Use the power cord that is supplied with your printer.
• Plug the power cord directly into a properly grounded electrical outlet. Ensure that each end of the
cord is connected securely. If you do not know if an outlet is grounded, ask an electrician to verify
that the outlet is grounded.

• Do not use a ground adapter plug to connect the printer to an electrical outlet that does not have
a ground connection ter inal.
WARNING: To avoid the potential of an electrical shock, ensure that the printer is

The power cord is attached to the printer as a plug-in device on the back cover of the printer. If it is

• The Printed Wire Board Asse bly Electronic Switching Syste (PWBA ESS) in this printer uses a
lithiu battery.
• Do not atte pt to repair or replace the lithiu battery. If there is a proble with the battery,
contact an authorized service representative to correct the proble .
WARNING:
• If the battery for the PWBA ESS is installed incorrectly, there is a risk of explosion.
• The lithiu battery in this printer contains Perchlorate Material. For infor ation about the
special handling procedures associated with Perchlorate Material, refer to www.dtsc.ca.gov/

If any of the following conditions occur, power off the printer i ediately and disconnect the power
cord fro the electrical outlet. Contact an authorized Xerox service representative to correct the
proble if:
• The equip ent e its unusual odors or akes unusual noises.
• The power cable is da aged or frayed.
• A wall panel circuit breaker, fuse, or other safety device has been tripped.
• Liquid is spilled into the printer.
• The printer is exposed to water.
• Any part of the printer is da aged.

Operational Safety
Your printer and supplies were designed and tested to eet strict safety require ents. These include
safety agency exa ination, approval, and co pliance with established environ ental standards.
Your attention to the following safety guidelines helps to ensure the continued, safe operation of your
printer.

• Do not re ove any paper trays while the printer is printing.
• Do not open the doors when the printer is printing.
• Do not ove the printer when it is printing.
• Keep hands, hair, neckties, and so on, away fro the exit and feed rollers.
• Protective covers, which require tools for the re oval, protect the hazard areas within the printer.
Do not re ove the protective covers.
• Do not override any electrical or echanical interlock devices.
• Do not atte pt to re ove paper that is ja ed deeply inside the printer. Power off the printer
pro ptly, then contact your local Xerox representative.
• Ensure that the rear right cover is attached. To connect an interface cable, open the rear right
cover.

This printer produces ozone during nor al operation. The a ount of ozone produced is dependent on
copy volu e. Ozone is heavier than air and is not produced in a ounts large enough to har anyone.

• Place the printer on a level, solid, non-vibrating surface with adequate strength to hold its weight.

ventilation and to prevent overheating of the printer.
• Place the printer in an area where there is an adequate space for operation and servicing.
• Place the printer in a dust-free area.
• Do not store or operate the printer in hot, cold, or hu id environ ents.
• Do not place the printer near a heat source.
• To avoid exposure of light-sensitive co ponents, do not place the printer in the direct sunlight.

• Use the supplies designed for your printer. The use of unsuitable aterials can cause poor
perfor ance and a possible safety hazard.
• Follow all warnings and instructions arked on, or supplied with, the product, options, and
supplies.
• Store all consu ables in accordance with the instructions given on the package or container.
• Keep all consu ables away fro the reach of children.
• Never throw toner, toner cartridges, dru cartridges, or waste cartridges into an open fla e.
• When handling cartridges, for exa ple toner cartridges, avoid skin and eye contact. Eye contact
with toner can cause irritation and infla ation. Do not atte pt to disasse ble the cartridge,
which can increase the risk of skin or eye contact.
Caution: Use of non-Xerox supplies is not reco ended. The Xerox Warranty or Service
Agree ent do not cover da age, alfunction, or degradation of perfor ance caused by use
of non-Xerox supplies, or the use of Xerox supplies not specified for this printer.
