No complicated setup or adjustments are necessary — the YSP does everything itself.
IntelliBeam technology analyzes the room sound and precisely aims the sound beams
both directly at the listener and reflected off the walls for the best surround effect. It
then optimizes the audio level and frequency response of each beam in less than three
minutes. Manual Setup allows tweaking in accordance with individual preferences.

A Multi-Channel Solution for Every Room.
The Yamaha Digital Sound Projectors employ a speaker array
powered by digital amplifiers, and our unique projection technology
to control the orientation of the sound. By focusing the sound into
”beams” and controlling the speaker delay times, the listeners
perceive the sounds to be coming from additional speakers placed
throughout the room, when in fact there is only the Yamaha Digital
Sound ProjectorTM.
Sophisticated Digital Sound ProjectorTM technology precisely controls
the direction of the sound by focusing it into beams. The focused sound
beams do not only reach the listeners directly but also by being
reflected off the walls. Two or more channels are overlaid to recreate
the desired sound (as in the right figure above). In a multi-channel
configuration, the sound beams are merged
together, recreating the sound of multi-
channel surround. The result is true multi-
channel surround sound that is just like a
multi-speaker system – without the need for
extra speakers or cables.
Five-Beam:
All five channels — L , R,
C, Ls and Rs — are given
separate orientations.
