Chapter 3 How to use Body Composition mode
3-1. To get the correct measurement
results
The DF870 measures body composition such as fat and muscle by passing a weak electric current through
the body. The human body consists of lean body tissues (mainly muscles), which easily conduct electricity,
and fat tissues, which hardly conduct electricity. It means that people who are easy to conduct electricity have
more muscles and that people who are difficult to conduct electricity have more fats. This measure of low
and high electricity conductivity is called “impedance,” which is also affected by the change of water content
distribution and the change of blood circulation. Therefore, do not measure body composition under the
conditions where you cannot obtain the correct measurement results. You need to measure body composition
during the following optimal time period for measurement wherever possible.
Body Planner
Optimal time for
measurement
10 a.m. to 12 noon
Take off your socks when you measure.
Wipe your finger tips and the soles of your
feet with a wet towel.
Body Planner
You cannot get the correct measurement results
in the following cases:
Wait for about two hours before measurement.
Just after waking
up
Just after eating or
drinking
Just after
exercising
Just after taking a
bath or shower
If the person is a growing child, is pregnant, is a dialysis patient, has swelling, has a cold, or has an
extremely athletic figure, they may not get the correct results from the body composition
measurement.
(Attention) For medical and hospital personnel
The weights measured in Body Composition mode cannot be used for any certifications. If you wish to
enter a measured weight in a patient chart, measure it in Weight mode. Note also that, unless you are
using the DF870 designed for transactions or certifications, you cannot enter the measured weight in a
patient chart even when it is measured in Weight mode.
