read this brief introduction carefully, which will give you the most important information you needto start using your new
system. These instructions provide you with the basic information you need for the assembly and operation of the parts
supplied.

INTELLIMIXis a three channel, fully digital audio mixer with integrated routing matrix and highly flexible control logic. User
specific set-ups can be called up using a YELLOWTEC SmartCard®. The primary application for INTELLIMIXwill be for
computer-assisted workstations to serve as the “interface” between existing audio sources and the soundcard of the AWS
(Audio Workstation). INTELLIMIXwas developed for today’s requirements in audio production areas of radio and television, as
well as for use in Post Production work areas.
The equipment explains itself through it’s intuitive user guide. However, you should read the following information carefully!
First steps
INTELLIMIXis shipped in two separate boxes. Unpack the boxes with care. The foam-cladding insert is for the protection of the
user surface and should be separated from the box after unpacking. This can easily be pulled out as there is only a weak
adhesive attaching the foam to the box. Please think about the environment and dispose of the foam and the cardboard
separately. Check to see that everything is delivered. If you have any questions please contact your dealer directly.

Electrical connection
First connect theINTELLIMIXcontrol unit to the base unit using onlythe long cable that is designated Control Unit. Plug it in on
the underside of the control unit and carefully feed it through the cable pull restraint, so that INTELLIMIXcan stand securely on
the table. Position the control unit so that the user surface and the displays are at a convenient angle.
Now connect the base unit to the mains power. INTELLIMIXis equipped with a switched-mode power supply and will work with
any voltage from 90V to 240V AC mains without the need to select.
Always observe local safety regulations! Please see the notes on safety at the end of this document!
Now switch on the power for INTELLIMIXusing the mains switch (on the rear of the base unit). The displays show the power-up
process and the system performs a lamptest. INTELLIMIXis now ready for use with the last working parameter set-up.
INTELLIMIXcan be switched to standby mode so that you can turn all functions off. To enter standby, press SHIFT and TALK
together and hold down for approx. 4 seconds. The unit will switch off. Use the same button combination to switchINTELLIMIX
on again (You can change these settings later by use of the set-up software).
Please note that power will only be removed completely from INTELLIMIX by operation of the mains switch on the
back of the Base Unit. Before opening the case of the unit, the mains plug must always be removed from the supply!
On power-up, INTELLIMIXrecalls the default set-up. For safety reasons, the monitor is set to a predetermined level at switch
on.

Getting Started
After power-up, the three displays show the labels of the currently selected sources. Now have your first go at using it! Turn
the Source Selector/PFL to step through the available sources (you can change the labels to suit your own requirements later
with the set-up software). All three channels are identical in form–there are no predefined mic or line channels.Press the
Source Selector/PFLto hear prefade; theSource Display will flash to indicate this status.
Press theLevel Control to switch between monitoring via loudspeakers or on headphones. TheSpeaker/HeadphoneIndicator
will indicate this status. Or, place the suppliedYELLOWTEC SmartCard® in the Card Slotto see how simple it is to call up a
personal set-up.
Online Handbook
After you have usedINTELLIMIXfor the first time, the emphasis now turns to productive work. HowINTELLIMIXcan be
configured and used in your working environment you can find in the online handbook and online help. You will find an
interactive handbook on the accompanying CD-ROM that you can also print out. Check our web site on
http://www.yellowtec.com from time to time to see if there are any updates to theINTELLIMIX-documentation.
To change the factory set-ups, you will need a PC with Windows 95 or higher, a CD-ROM drive and a free serial port (RS232).
Connect the PC serial port to the “RS232” connector on the Base Unit. Place the CD-ROM in the drive and start the installation
routine (INSTALL.EXE). The user-friendly software guides you through what you need todo. No need to worry –the set-up
software will be copied onto your PC without changing any settings on your computer!

Getting Started
Safety Instructions
1. Before installation or operation of equipment read all safety instructions warnings and operating instructions.
2. Heed all warnings on the equipment.
3. Follow the operating instructions.
4. Keep operating instructions for future reference.
5. Never use the equipment in the immediate vicinity of water. Ensure that water or damp cannot get into the
equipment.
6. Only install or fit the equipment in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations.
7. Ensure adequate ventilation when installing.
8. Never install or fit the equipment in the immediate vicinity of sources of heat such as boilers, heating units and other
equipment which generates heat. (Including amplifiers and other electronic equipment.)
9. When connecting to a power supply ensure that it is the correct voltage and only use cables as specified by the
manufacturer in the operating instructions, or, as shown on the connector panel of the equipment.
10. Only connect the equipment to a legally approved, earthed, mains power supply.
11. Position the power cable or cord in such a way that it cannot be walked upon or come into contact with any object or
thing that could damage the cable or cord. Attention should be given to the point where the cable is attached to the
equipment, and, where the cable connects to the approved supply.
12. Ensure that foreign objects and liquids cannot get into the equipment.
13. Only clean the equipment as recommended by the manufacturer.
14. Disconnect the power cable or cord from the power supply if theequipment will be out of use for a prolonged period.
15. In any situation where an incident occurs which could render the equipment unsafe, for example
•Damage to the power cable or cord
•Entry of foreign objects or liquids (including water) into the equipment
•The equipment has been dropped or the casing has been damaged in any way
•Any apparent change in performance
have the equipment checked immediately by a person technically qualified to make such checks.
16. Never carry out any work on the equipment other than as specified in the operating manual.
