User Instruction and Warning Information for N-623
Warning : Working at height is a very dangerous activity which may lead to severe
injury or fatality. We advise that you personally assume the responsibility to learn the
use and the safety measures that apply to this equipment. Remember that there is no
better ''instruction'' than that of a trained instructor. Train in the use of this tool, verify
that you have fully understood how it works and if in any doubt, please ask competent
person!
Don’t make any alterations or additions to the equipment without the manufacturer’s
prior written consent.
Any repair shall only be made by the manufacturer.
The products shall not be used outside its limitations, or for any purpose other than that
for which it is intended.
It is essential for the safety of the user that if the product is re-sold outside Taiwan, the
reseller shall provide instructions for use, for maintenance, for periodic examination and
for repair in the language of the country in which the product is to be used.
If there is reason to doubt your fitness to safely absorb the shock from a fall arrest,
please consult your doctor. Age and fitness seriously affect a worker’s ability to
withstand falls. Pregnant women or minors must not use YOKE hooks or carabiners.
1. GENERAL USE INFORMATION
These instructions MUST be provided to all users. The user and installer of this equipment MUST read and
understand these instructions before use. This cable grab is intended to be used as part of a complete
personal fall arrest system
Before using this cable grab, record the product information in the Inspection and Maintenance Section of this
manual
2. RESCUE PLAN
It is important to make plan for a rescue in the event of a fall BEFORE starting to work. Ensure that a
rescuer plan is discussed with a competent person and that this plan takes into account:
- Dangers from swing falls
- Avoidance of exposure of connecting components to sharp edges
- Removal from service for any components subject to a fall.

It is also important to ensure that the employer has a documented rescue plan and has the ability to
implement it.
3. COMPATIBILITY
When used as part of a PPE system against falls from a height, this connector must be connected to a
compatible connection (example: a correct D-Ring). It is important to ensure compatibility in order to avoid
possibility of roll-out or disengagement.
Only one personal protective system can be attached to this connector. This connector is designed for use
by one person only.
Ensure that proper fall clearance exists in order to prevent striking ground or other objects in the event of a
fall.
Note: a connector is considered to have a compatible connection when the connectors have been designed
to work together and that their shape/size do not cause gates to inadvertently open. All connections must
fully close and lock.
4. MEANING OF MARKING AND / OR SYMBOLS:
Manufacturer name or abbreviation name: YOKE or Y
YOKE Item number: e.g. N-623
Year code of manufacturing year : 2 digits, e.g. 14
Batch number: 3 Capital letters, e.g. NBB
Make sure markings on products are legible. The marking of item number and batch number can be
cross-referenced to the Test Certificate issued by YOKE.
5. MAINTENANCE
Remove cable grab from cable
Clean cable grab with water and mild soap
Wipe off with clean dry cloth, low-pressure compressed air may be used
Store the cable grab in a cool, dry and clean environment - out of direct sunlight. Do not store in
areas where chemical vapors are present. If stored for an extended period, refer to FORMAL
inspection section.
Lubricate with light oil such as WD-40. Use a small amount of oil on pivot area. Wipe off excess oil from body
and surfaces of the cams so that oil is not transferred to the cable
A FORMAL inspection of this unit must be performed at least annually by a competent person (other
than the user). The frequency of this type of inspection should be based on the conditions of use.
Ensure that inspection results are recorded in the log section.
User must read,

Training
It is the responsibility of the user AND purchaser of this cable grab to ensure they are familiar with these
instructions, how to use the grab, its limitations and the consequences of improper use. Users and
purchasers of this equipment must be trained in its correct care and use
INSTRUCTIONS FOCUS ON THE CARE AND USE OF THIS CABLE GRAB AND ARE NOT A SUBSITITUTE FOR A FORMAL
CLIMBING AND FALL PROTECTION TRAINNING PROGRAM.
Equipment users must be fully trained in and conversant with all regulatory requirements applicable to the workplace in which the fall
protection equipment is to be used. If in doubt contact your local OSHA or CSA office for clarification. Such training should include to the
work situation, a hands-on opportunity to learn how to wear and attach equipment properly, instructions about:
DROP LINE & LIFE LINE: type & selection, strength, stretch, wear, degradation factors, use & maintenance.
HARNESS: Type & selection, use & maintenance.
LANYARD, SAFETY SNAPS AND HARDWARE: type & selection, compatibility, use & maintenance.
ANCHOR POINTS: proper techniques and hardware for securing and connecting lanyards drop lines or lifelines.
PHYSICS OF FALLING: calculating falling distance, hazards, assessing total fall arrest system.
6. RECORDS (RECORD-CARD)
The product could be traced through Test Certificate issued by YOKE. The Test Certificate shows Model /
type identification (i.e. Item Number), the name and contact details of the manufacturer, and means of
identification (batch or serial number).
IT IS ESSENTIAL TO ENSURE BEFORE USE THAT THE
RECOMMENDATIONS SPECIFIC TO EACH PART ASSOCIATED WITH THIS
PRODUCT ARE COMPLIED WITH, AS SPECIFIED IN THE MANUAL.
IMPORTANT :
These instructions should be supplied to each person using this product. This connector must be inspected
according to yoke catalog (www.yoke.net) prior to each use by the user and at least once a year by the
manufacturer or by an authorized person. The inspection should be recorded on the enclosed schedule.

This cable grab is a cam actuated fall arrester, which slides freely up and down a stainless steel or galvanized
steel wire cable of 3/8 “(10mm) diameter and locks on the cable to arrest a fall.

BEFORE EACH USE INSPECTION
Take unit off of cable
All components must be free of dirt or debris
Check components for damage or wear that may affect the free movement or operation of the
mechanism.
Pivot gripping mechanism through full range of movement. Movement should be smooth with no
hesitation. (See MAINTENANCE section)
There should be noticeable spring resistance
Install on cable (see instruction and use section)
Move unit up and down cable using the carabiner. Movement should be smooth and unit should
stop/park immediately on release.

TO BE PERFORMED IN AN AREA FREE FROM FALL RISKS: Attach the cable grab to the users full
body harness in the prescribed manner. Ascend the climbing structure to a height of 3 feet. WITH
BOTH HANDS AND FEET ON THE CLIMBING STRUCTURE, flex knees in a quick sitting motion to
simulate a fall. This will activate the cable grab. If the unit does not function properly, remove from
service and seek a competent inspector. DO NOT use unit until inspected by a qualified inspector.
IF IN DOUBT OF THE CONDITION OF THE UNIT DO NOT USE AND DESTROY
Do not attempt to alter this cable grab
All other components of the fall protection system attached to and used in conjunction with this cable
grab should be inspected as per manufacturers and OSHA/ANSI/CSA/EN guidelines
Record inspection results and keep on file.
INSTALLATION AND USE
Hold the cable grab with the arrow pointing upward.
Squeeze the cable grab while pushing the protruding lever upward
Rotate the cable grab 90 degrees counter clockwise to thread cable between the cams and body and
release the protruding lever to grip the cable.
The UP arrow on the cable grab must be pointing in the ascending direction. The cable grab also
includes a gravity stop to reduce the possibility of installing the unit upside down.
Insert the carabiner in the eye at the end of the lever to lock the cable grab around the cable
Pull briskly downward to make sure the grab locks on the cable in the event of a fall.
Only use carabiner (includes –captive pin). DO NOT substitute with other connectors. Do not use
other connecting devices such as short lanyard, chain, link or clevis. When connecting carabiner to
cable grab, ensure that carabiner gate is fully closed and locked
USE
Ensure that all environmental hazards are addressed prior to using cable grab. These hazards include,
but are not limited to: power lines, heat or flame, explosive gases, physical obstructions, climbers
ability and health. IF A FALL OCCURS, THE EMPLOYER MUST HAVE A RESCUE PLAN IN
PLACE AND THE ABILITY TO IMPLEMENT IT. THE UNIT MUST ALSO BE REMOVED FROM
SERVICE.
Ascending: to ascent climb up normally
Descending: climb down smoothly in a normal position

IMPORTANT :
1) Ensure that the anchorage point is above the user.
2) Avoid situation where force may be applied to the gate of a connecting device.
3) Ensure gate of connecting device closes properly
4) Avoid connections that would place force against the gate or locking lever of a connecting device.
