INSTALLATIONCAUTIONS
1.UVdisinfecondevicesaredesignedtobeinstalledonthecoldwaterlineonly.
2.InstalltheUVdisinfeconsystemindoorsinaprotectedareawherethetemperaturedoesnotfall
below4°Candthehumiditylevelislow(topreventcondensaononthereactorchamber).This
unitfunconsopmallybetween9°Cand29°C.
3.UsePTFEtapeonallplumbingconnecons.Donotuseothersealants.
Glovesbeforeinstallaon
Thekitcomessecurelypackagedinacardboardbox,open
carefullytomakesureyoudon’tdamagethecontents.
Thekitcontains:Stainlesssteelreactortube,1pairreactor
mounngbrackets,Quartzsleeve,ballastcontrollerbox,
mounngscrews.
Selectasuitablelocaoninadrywelllitarea,whichprovides
enoughroomtoperformrounemaintenanceforthe
disinfeconsystemanditsrelatedcomponents.UVsystem
shouldalwaysbelocatedclosesttothepointofuse.Thesystem
canbeinstalledeitherhorizontallyorvercallyalthoughvercal
ispreferred.Whenselecngamounnglocaon,youmustalso
leaveenoughspacetoallowfortheremovaloftheUVlampand
quartzsleeve.Typicallyleaveaspaceequaltotheoverallsystem
lengthasshowninthediagramonthele.
Mountthesystemtothewallusingthesuppliedclamps.
Variousconneconmethodscanbeusedtoconnectthewater
sourcetothesystem.

Mounttheballastcontrollerhorizontallyonthewallusingthe
suppliedfingseitheraboveortothesideofthereactor
chamber.Ideallyplacethecontrollerabovethereactorand
awayfromanywaterconneconpointtopreventwater
leakingontothecontroller.Nevermountthecontroller
vercallywithACconnectoratthetopofthecontrollerto
preventmoisturefromrunningdownthecordandcausinga
potenalfirerisk.Makesureyouforma‘driploop’inthe
powercordtopreventwaterfromenteringtheballast
controller.
InordertoopmisetheUVradiaon,pleasemakesuretheUV
bulbiscleanbeforeinstallaon.Cleanwithalcoholtoremove
anymarksthatarevisible.
Thespringandquartzsleevearealreadyinstalledinstalledin
thereactor.Removethe‘window’fromtheendnutcarefully
makingsuretoretainthespringinthequartzsleeve.
CarefullyinserttheUVlampintotheQuartzsleevethroughthe
nut.
Cauon:Quartzsleeveandbulbareeasilydamaged.Please
handlewithcare.
Removethecableglandnutfromthecovercap.
Thiswillfreetheelectricalsocketfromthecovercap.

Backthecovercapdownthecablealiletogiveyourselfsome
spacetowork.
Connecttheelectricalconnectortothesocketontheendofthe
bulb.Thismayrequiresomeforcesopleasebecarefulwiththe
bulbatthisstage.
Slidethecoverbackintoposionmakingsureitslidesfullyinto
posion.
Re‐fitthecableglandnuttothecovercap.
Tightenthethumbscrewtolockthecoverbackontothereactor
endnut.
Whenalltheplumbingconneconsaremade,slowlyturnonthewaterandcheckfor
leaks.
Allowthewatertorunforafewminutestoclearanyairordustthatmaybeinthe
reactor.
Connectthepowerforstart‐up.
DonotremovetheUVlampfromthechamberwhenapplyingelectricalpower.
Thissystemisdesignedforconnuousoperaonandfrequentswitchingwillreducethe
UVradiaonandservicelife.DonotelectricallycycletheUVunitmorethanthreeon/off
cyclesinany24hourperiod.

PlumbingDisinfeconProcedure
Thefollowingdisinfeconprocedureisgenerallyacceptedasbeingsuitableforthe
disinfeconofplumbingsystemsknowntobecontaminated.Ifyouareuncertainabout
theeffecvenessofthisprocedureyouareadvisedtocontactyourlocalhealthauthority
responsibleforwatersafety.
DuringtheUVdisinfeconprocess,theonlyplacedisinfecontakesplaceiswithinthe
reactorchamber.Thereisnoresidualdisinfectantcapacity.Thereforeitisnecessaryto
chemicallydisinfecttheplumbingsystempriortotheinialisaonoftheUVsystem.
1.TurntheUVsystemshutoffvalvestotheclosedposion.
2.Thedisinfeconoftheplumbingsystemismostreadilyaccomplishedbyremovingthe
5micronpre‐filtercartridgeandadding250‐500mlofastandard5%concentraonof
unscentedhouseholdbleachintotheemptyfilterhousingandre‐aaching.
3.VerifythattheUVsystemisconnectedtotheACpowervoltageandoperang
properly.
4.Turnthevalvestotheopenposionandletthewaterflow.
5.Runwaterthroughthesystemunlyoucaneasilysmellthechlorine,catchingtherun
offwaterinatub.Closethevalvesandletthesystemsitfor30‐60mins.
6.ClosethevalvesontheUVsystem.Openthevalvesandflushthesystemthrough
thoroughly.
7.Oncethisiscomplete,shutthevalves,connecttheplumbingsystemtotheice
machineandfillthepre‐filterhousingwiththerecommendedamountofZiegra
saniserforyourmachine.
8.Openthevalvesandcycletheicemachineasrecommendedunltheprocessis
complete.Oncefinisheddiscardalltheiceandcleantheicedeliveryhoseandanyice
storage,cart,utensilsetcthatcomesintocontactwiththeice.OncecleanuseZiegra
sanisertocompletethecleaningoftheseitems.
9.Ifthesystemisbeinginstalledonanicemachinethathasalreadybeencontaminated
bythewatersupply,thenafullcleanandsanisingofthemachineshouldbecarried
out.ContactZiegraforadvice.
