SECTION 6 – POOL PULSE
11
POOL PULSE®:
The Pool Pulse® is a flow meter that measures the volume of water flowing through
your Zodiac cleaner. It must be used to properly set the flow and can be used as a
diagnostic tool when the cleaner isn’t running properly.
HOW TO USE POOL PULSE®:
Pool Pulse can only be used if the filtration system is on.
1) Attach the Pool Pulse® to the first hose length (ie: the one attached to the pink
adaptor) and keep it under water as shown.
2) Ensure the Pool Pulse® is in the ideal range when viewed from the side
3) Keeping the hose under water, remove the Pool Pulse®
4) Submerge the cleaner head, and when the bubbles stop coming from the
extension pipe, attach the hose.
If the flow is in the low range, review the installation procedures. A dirty pool filter
or clogged basket is usually the main cause of low flow. Other types of hydraulic
problems may require a pool professional. If your pool has multiple skimmers and flow
is in the low range, close the skimmer the cleaner is not attached to.
If the flow is in the high range, review the installation procedures. Lower AD Flow
Valve setting to #1.

The Zodiac ZOOM™ is not
working or is moving too slowly
(less than 3 metres a minute)
Are both the pump basket and
the filter clean?
Are there any impurities in the
pump turbine?
Is the hose connected properly?
Is the pump in good working
condition?
Is the diaphragm damaged or
blocked?
Clean filter and pump basket.
Clean pump.
Change diaphragm. (See
paragraph “Changing the
Diaphragm.)
The Zodiac ZOOM™ is moving
slowly and there are air bubbles
visible in water returned to pool
Is there a leak in the filtration
circuit?
Has the hose got a hole in it?
Things to be checked:
- Pump basket: tighten cover.
- Flexible cleaner hose: check
connections of sections.
- Pull the hose out of the water
piece by piece and check for a
hissing noise that will indicate
water escaping.
The Zodiac ZOOM™ is not
covering all the areas of the pool
Is the hose long enough?
How is the flow of the water
return into pool orientated? The
water flow should not be in a
circular motion around the pool.
Is the hose straight?
Add on extra hose sections.
Turn pool returns so they do
not affect the hose’s movement
along surface.
Ensure the hose is stored
straight all the time, when not in
the pool.

SECTION 2 – INSTALLATION
2
ZODIAC ZOOM™ HOSE
Your cleaner is supplied with 10
metres of hose, made up of 10
sections, each 1 metre long. These
connect together to provide the
desired length of hose for your pool.
The optimal hose length will reach
across to the furthest point of your
pool plus one extra hose length. If
you have an extra large above ground
pool you may have to purchase extra 1 metre lengths, to suit your size of pool.
Before connecting the hose to the cleaner, place the hose weight approx. 0.5 metres
along the hose that attaches to the Zodiac ZOOM™ cleaner.
Switch on your filtration system. Place all the hose in the water, and place one end
of the hose over return inlet until
bubbles stop coming out of the hose.
Next hold the Zodiac ZOOM™
completely under the water and wait
until all air bubbles have escaped
from the cleaner then attach female
end of hose (with pink insert
attached) onto the extension pipe.
The hose protector is placed over
the section of hose that attaches into the skimmer box. Connect hose to AD Flow
Valve which is then fitted into the weir adaptor, which is then fitted into the vacuum
plate of the skimmer box.
• It is most important that the valve opening is pointing downwards so that it will
not suck air.
• The Zodiac ZOOM™ should move across the pool floor at 5-6 metres per
minute. This is achieved by adjusting the AD Flow Valve.

SECTION 2 – INSTALLATION
3
AD FLOW VALVE
The use of the Zodiac AD Flow Valve is recommended on pools with only one
skimmer box/suction point, or when the filtration system needs to be used but the
pool cleaner does not, such as when people are swimming in the pool. It regulates
the flow of water to the pump through the pool cleaner. As the filter collects
debris, the valve automatically maintains the correct flow to the cleaner. For
installation of the AD Flow Valve see below:
For connection of the AD Flow Connector into a non standard skimmer plate see below:
Waterco Skimmer Box = Screw in the AD Flow Valve connector from the top of the skimmer plate.
Poolrite Skimmer Box = Screw in the AD Flow Valve connector from the bottom of the skimmer plate.
Pool Rite Skimmer Plate Waterco Skimmer Plate
The AD Flow Valve comes preset at a factory setting of 2 to obtain maximum pool
cleaning efficiency. If your water flow requires a higher or lower setting, you can
adjust the valve to one of three settings: High (Setting 3), Medium (Setting 2) or
Low (Setting 1).
You will only need to adjust the AD Flow Valve when the following occurs:
AD Flow Valve
AD Flow Valve
Connector
STEP 1: Screw the AD Flow Valve
Connector into the Vacuum
Plate or use Weir Cuff.
STEP 2: Insert the AD Flow Valve
into the AD Flow Valve
Connector.
STEP 3: Connect the AD Flow Valve
into the hose.

Step 6: Diaphragm Assembly
Prior to reinstalling the diaphragm, rinse the diaphragm and the inner extension pipe
thoroughly to remove any grit or algae. Attach the diaphragm to the inner extension
pipe using the retaining ring (Figure 4). Slide the top of the inner extension pipe (the
end which is opposite the diaphragm) into the body. Pressing on the underside of the
diaphragm’s ridges, push the diaphragm into the body (Figure 5). The diaphragm
should fit flush against the cassette. Hold the cassette and tighten the outer extension
pipe by turning it clockwise (Figure 6). Do not overtighten.

Step 4
Step 3
Step 4: Removal of Inner Extension Pipe
Remove the diaphragm from the inner extension pipe. The retaining ring on the
diaphragm must be placed on the new diaphragm.
Step 5: Examination
Inspect the diaphragm for the blockage or damage. If damage is evident, i.e. a cut or
hole on the sides of the diaphragm, it will need to be replaced by your authorised
Zodiac dealer.
If a blockage is apparent, grasp it and remove it. If this can’t be done, a garden hose
may be used to flush the obstacle through. Do not use any sharp objects to
probe or push an obstruction as this may damage the diaphragm.

SECTION 3 – KEEPING YOUR CLEANER HAPPY
5
HOW TO KEEP YOUR ZODIAC ZOOM™ HAPPY
Zodiac ZOOM™ was developed to assist you with the maintenance of your
swimming pool. From time to time it will need a little assistance from you.
Here’s what you can do to help:
1. Skimmer basket, pump strainer basket, cartridge filter, skim filter, sand filter
(whichever is applicable) should be thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis to
ensure optimum pool cleaner efficiency. NB. ALWAYS disconnect the hose from
the skimmer or vacuum line BEFORE backwashing your filter.
2. Ensure that the return outlet(s) is not causing excessive rippling on the pool
surface. To eliminate this, direct the water return aim flow downwards to 30o
below water surface.
3. The hose protector should be checked monthly and rotated in order to ensure
that the hose does not wear unduly.
4. Always store your Zodiac ZOOM™ hose in a straight line - never coil or leave
hose coiled in the sun. If storing for a long period, disconnect the sections and
pack into hose box. If you should require replacement hose, insist on genuine
Zodiac hoses.
5. Periodically inspect parts for wear. The flexi-foot, disc, and wheel deflector are
the most critical. As the disc wears, it begins to curl at the outer edges. When
the depth of the channels between the treads of the flexi-foot are 3mm or less,
replace the flexi-foot.
IMPORTANT:
Sunlight (ultraviolet rays), water and swimming pool chemicals can take their toll on
your automatic pool cleaner. To extend the lifespan of your Zodiac ZOOM™ and hose:
1. Remove your Zodiac ZOOM™ from the pool before super chlorinating and
reinstall it after a minimum of four hours.
2. If you should develop an algae or chemical imbalance problem, remove your
Zodiac ZOOM™, follow the advice of a qualified pool professional, and
re-install your Zodiac ZOOM™ when the imbalance is corrected.

SECTION 4 – SERVICING YOUR MACHINE

QUICK ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM
Unlike any other automatic pool cleaners designed for above ground pools, the
Zodiac ZOOM™ has the Quick Release Access Cassette System. This unique feature
allows almost instantaneous access to the one moving part – the diaphragm.
Large foreign objects, such as children’s toys, tree branches and rocks, should be
removed manually from your pool prior to operating an automatic pool cleaner. In
the event a foreign object does not get manually removed and a blockage occurs, the
Quick Access Cassette System allows you the opportunity to remove the blockage
or check the diaphragm for damage in minutes at poolside.
Step 1: Removal of Cassette
Unscrew the Cassette Holding Nut - three turns anti-clockwise. Pull the cassette out
of the main body.
Step 1
Step 2
Step 2: Parting the Cassette
Grasp the cassette in one hand and unscrew the extension pipe 2 turns.
