ZyXEL warrants to the original end user (purchaser) that this product is free from any defects in materials
or workmanship for a period of up to two (2) years from the date of purchase. During the warranty period
and upon proof of purchase, should the product have indications of failure due to faulty workmanship
and/or materials, ZyXEL will, at its discretion, repair or replace the defective products or components
without charge for either parts or labor and to whatever extent it shall deem necessary to restore the product
or components to proper operating condition. Any replacement will consist of a new or re-manufactured
functionally equivalent product of equal value, and will be solely at the discretion of ZyXEL. This warranty
shall not apply if the product is modified, misused, tampered with, damaged by an act of God, or subjected
to abnormal working conditions.
NOTE
Repair or replacement, as provided under this warranty, is the exclusive remedy of the purchaser. This
warranty is in lieu of all other warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranty of
merchantability or fitness for a particular use or purpose. ZyXEL shall in no event be held liable for
indirect or consequential damages of any kind of character to the purchaser.
To obtain the services of this warranty, contact ZyXEL's Service Center for your Return Material
Authorization (RMA) number. Products must be returned Postage Prepaid. It is recommended that the unit
be insured when shipped. Any returned products without proof of purchase or those with an out-dated
warranty will be repaired or replaced (at the discretion of ZyXEL) and the customer will be billed for parts
and labor. All repaired or replaced products will be shipped by ZyXEL to the corresponding return address,
Postage Paid. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights that vary
from country to country.

Information for Canadian Users
The Industry Canada label identifies certified equipment. This certification means that the equipment meets
certain telecommunications network protective operation and safety requirements. The Industry Canada
does not guarantee that the equipment will operate to a user's satisfaction.
Before installing this equipment, users should ensure that it is permissible to be connected to the facilities
of the local telecommunications company. The equipment must also be installed using an acceptable
method of connection. In some cases, the company's inside wiring associated with a single line individual
service may be extended by means of a certified connector assembly. The customer should be aware that
compliance with the above conditions may not prevent degradation of service in some situations.
Repairs to certified equipment should be made by an authorized Canadian maintenance facility designated
by the supplier. Any repairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, or equipment malfunctions,
may give the telecommunications company cause to request the user to disconnect the equipment.
For their own protection, users should ensure that the electrical ground connections of the power utility,
telephone lines, and internal metallic water pipe system, if present, are connected together. This precaution
may be particularly important in rural areas.

Users should not attempt to make such connections themselves, but should contact the appropriate
electrical inspection authority, or electrician, as appropriate.

Your Prestige 610 ADSL PCI Modem
Congratulations on the purchase of your new Prestige 610 ADSL PCI Modem! Your Prestige combines the
super-fast speed of state-of-the-art ADSL (Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line) technology with the ease
of setup and operation.
There are two Prestige 610 models, one for ADSL over POTS (Plain Old Telephone System) and one for
ADSL over ISDN (Integrated Synchronous Digital System). Both models are discussed together in this
guide.
About This User's Guide
A practical and comprehensive tool, this manual provides information about Prestige installation and

Before You Begin
This chapter prepares you for the hardware installation.
1.1 System Requirements
Before installation, check that you have the following requirements.
• Pentium II 233 or above
• At least 32 MB RAM (64 MB recommended)
• A minimum of 10 MB available hard disk space or more
• An available PCI slot
• CD-ROM drive
• Windows 98/98 SE/Me/2000/XP
• Windows 98/98 SE users may need the Windows 98/98 SE CD
• An ADSL Internet service account
1.2 Protocol and Device Driver
Your Prestige employs ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) framing. ATM is a protocol that divides
packets into small fixed-sized cells for rapid transmission over high-speed networks. The ATM protocol
allows various types of traffic (e.g. data, voice, and video) to be securely and efficiently carried over the
same network. ATM is being widely deployed by telecommunications carriers in their backbone networks.
Two types of device drivers are provided for the Prestige: WAN and LAN. Both types of drivers support
ATM protocol. The WAN driver causes the Prestige to resemble a dial-up modem. The WAN driver uses
Dial-up Networking to establish the ADSL connection. The LAN driver establishes an always-on ADSL
connection automatically.
1.3 Required Information
Fill in the table with information from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or telephone company before
installation. You will be prompted for the information during installation. You may not need to fill in every
blank.

Hardware Installation and Connections
This chapter shows you how to install the Prestige in your computer.
2.1 Hardware Installation
Follow the steps below to install the Prestige in your computer.
Step 1. Save your work and close all applications.
Step 2. Turn off the computer and peripheral devices, such as the printer. Then disconnect the computer
power cord from the power source.
Step 3. Ground yourself by wearing an anti-static wrist strap or touching a metal object.
Step 4. Remove the computer cover and a blank slot cover.
Step 5. Insert the Prestige into an avaliable PCI slot. Make sure that the Prestige’s contacts are fully
seated in the slot.
Step 6. Secure the Prestige to the computer with a bracket screw.

Step 7. Replace the computer cover and plug in the power cord.
2.2 Hardware Connections
Connect the Prestige directly to the telephone wall jack with the included telephone cable.

2.2.1 Prestige with POTS Splitter
Depending on the service offered by the ISP, a POTS splitter device may be provided to be installed at the
customer's premise.
This is for the Prestige that follows the Full Rate (G.dmt) standard only. One major difference between
ADSL and dial-up modems is the optional telephone splitter. This device keeps the telephone and ADSL
signals separated, giving them the capability to provide simultaneous Internet access and telephone service
on the same line. Splitters also eliminate the destructive interference conditions caused by telephone sets.
The purchase of a POTS splitter is optional.
Noise generated from a telephone in the same frequency range, as the ADSL signal can be disruptive to the
ADSL signal. In addition the impedance of a telephone when off-hook may be so low that it shunts the
strength of the ADSL signal. When a POTS splitter is installed at the entry point, where the line comes into
the home, it will filter the telephone signals before combining the ADSL and telephone signals transmitted
and received. The issues of noise and impedance are eliminated with a single POTS splitter installation.
A telephone splitter is easy to install as shown in the following figure.

Step 1. Connect the side labeled “Phone” to your telephone.
